“Say Yes First, Figure It Out Later: The Real Entrepreneur Mindset”

In today’s episode, we explore what it really means to start and grow a business—long before you feel ready.Inspired by a story from Richard Branson about building a business from a phone box at just 16, we dive into the power of taking action without having everything figured out. No funding, no network, no experience—just belief, persistence, and the willingness to start.I also share my own journey of launching a DVD rental business with no stock, securing major deals, and figuring things out under pressure. From winning opportunities with brands like Superquinn, HMV, and Virgin Wines, to the reality of asking: “How are we actually going to deliver this?”—this is what real entrepreneurship looks like.In this episode, we cover:Why you don’t need perfect conditions to start a businessThe power of tenacity, self-belief, and actionHow opportunities come after you put yourself out thereThe reality of building a business while solving problems in real timeWhy backing yourself is often the biggest risk—and reward💡 Building a business isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about saying yes to the opportunity… and figuring it out along the way.If you’re an entrepreneur, founder, or someone thinking about starting a business, this episode will challenge you to stop waiting—and start doing.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. Dyslexia is a gift—but like any gift, you have to open it to truly benefit from it.

In today’s episode, we dive into dyslexia, exploring how it can be a powerful gift when the right support and tools are in place. Too often, dyslexia is seen as a limitation—but in reality, it’s about how individuals learn differently, and how they can thrive when given the right opportunities. We discuss the critical role of parents and support systems in helping children with dyslexia move beyond just surviving in school to truly succeeding in life. Finding the right tools, strategies, and environments can unlock confidence, creativity, and potential. In this episode, I also share a personal story from April 21st, 1981—the day of the first space shuttle launch—when I was caught “on the Mitch” (absent without permission from school). It’s a moment that reflects the challenges many dyslexic learners face in traditional education systems.Key topics include:Understanding dyslexia as a strength, not a weaknessWhy early support and intervention matterThe importance of learning tools and strategiesHow parents can advocate for their childrenTurning struggle into confidence and success💡 Dyslexia is a gift—but like any gift, you have to open it to truly benefit from it.If you’re a parent, educator, or someone navigating dyslexia, this episode offers insight, encouragement, and practical perspective on unlocking potential and building a brighter future.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. “Getting Your Business Ready to Sell: How to Maximise Value Before You Exit”

In today’s episode, we explore why preparing your business for sale is essential if you’re planning an exit—whether that’s to retire, move on, or start something new.Too often, business owners wait until the last minute to think about selling, but the reality is this: a business needs to be “dressed for the occasion” long before it goes to market.Using the simple analogy of getting ready for a wedding or special event, we explain how you naturally put in extra effort to look your best—and your business should be no different. If you want to attract the right buyer and achieve maximum value, your business must be well-organised, financially clear, and running smoothly. In this episode, we cover:Why exit planning should start years in advanceHow to make your business more attractive to buyersThe importance of systems, structure, and strong financialsSimple steps you can take now to increase your business valueIf you’re a business owner thinking about your future, this episode will help you understand how to position your business for a successful sale and maximise the return on all your hard work.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. In this episode, we explore the concept of “double culture”—the often-overlooked conflict between the culture of your business and the culture of your home. For entrepreneurs, business owners, and leaders, building something from scratch is exciting. It fuels passion, purpose, and drive. But that same passion often demands long hours, early mornings, and late nights—pulling you away from the life you once had at home. Before stepping into self-employment or leadership, many people are used to a consistent home routine—being present with family, helping with daily life, and spending quality time with loved ones. But as the business grows, that balance shifts. This creates a powerful internal conflict:You love your business and the growth you're creatingYou love your family and the moments you're missingAnd in between? Guilt. You feel guilty when you're at work and not at home. You feel guilty when you're at home and not working on your business. This emotional tug-of-war is one of the biggest contributors to stress, anxiety, and mental health challenges among entrepreneurs. In this episode, we break down:What “double culture” really meansWhy it creates internal conflict and guiltThe hidden mental health impact of running a businessThe reality of trying to “balance it all”Why awareness is the first step toward changeThis is a must-listen for anyone building a business while trying to stay connected at home—because success shouldn’t come at the cost of your well-being or your relationships.#EntrepreneurLife #WorkLifeBalance #MentalHealth #LeadershipMark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. In this episode, I share a real story from my time involved in a management buy-in at Indigo — a time when cash was tight, pressure was high, and every decision mattered. We were heavily reliant on low-value household accounts, and we knew we needed to break into the corporate market if the business was going to survive and grow. That’s when we made a bold move — launching a new product called Net Nanny, designed to protect children from inappropriate content online. The stakes were high. We were down to our last bit of cash, worried about paying for the launch, and under pressure from investors. But we pushed ahead anyway. What happened next was unexpected. The product launch generated massive PR, media attention, and brand awareness. We were everywhere — radio, newspapers, and headlines. It gave the business visibility we had never had before and opened doors into the corporate space. But here’s the twist — the product itself didn’t perform as expected. Sales were modest, and by traditional measures, it could have been seen as a failure.Yet the impact it created told a very different story. The exposure from that launch helped us raise funding, build credibility, and ultimately position the business for a successful sale. The lesson? Not every success looks like sales. Sometimes the real value is in the attention, positioning, and opportunities that come from taking a bold step.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. In yesterday’s episode, I talk about how people view failure — and how that mindset can shape everything in business and life. For some, failure is a full stop. It’s the end of the road. But for others, it’s just a question mark. A moment to pause, reflect, and ask: what can I learn from this? For many dyslexic individuals, failure is rarely seen as the end. It’s simply a temporary setback — a chance to understand what went wrong, find a different approach, and move forward. That ability to keep going, think differently, and find solutions is incredibly powerful. It’s also why having dyslexic people in your team can be such a strength. They often bring:CreativityInnovationProblem-solving skillsA different way of thinking about challengesIn this episode, we explore why mindset matters when it comes to failure, and how embracing a “question mark” approach can lead to better outcomes — both in business and in life.#dyslexia #neurodiversity #entrepreneurship #mindset #failure #leadership#businessowner #entrepreneurlife #businessgrowth #startupmindset #innovation #problemsolvingMark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. In today’s episode of the Mark Morning Business Show, we tackle a powerful and important issue: the responsibility of leadership and the impact of misinformation. When world leaders speak, people listen. Their words carry weight, influence opinions, and shape beliefs. That’s why it is critical that what they say is grounded in fact, research, and education—not opinion or misinformation. We address a recent comment suggesting that people with dyslexia should not be in leadership positions. This is not only incorrect—it’s dangerous.History and modern business prove the opposite. From global entrepreneurs like Richard Branson to major figures in entertainment like Tom Cruise, individuals with dyslexia have built, led, and succeeded at the highest levels. Their creativity, problem-solving ability, and resilience are often the very traits that drive success. But the real concern is the impact these uneducated statements can have—especially on young people. Students already struggling with dyslexia may hear these messages and begin to doubt themselves, their abilities, and their future. This episode is a reminder that: 👉 Words matter 👉 Leadership carries responsibility 👉 And misinformation can do real harmWe must challenge uneducated narratives and empower the next generation to recognise their strengths—not be limited by someone else’s ignorance.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. But that’s where people lose themselves. This episode is a reminder that you didn’t get the opportunity by accident. You got it because of your experience, your knowledge, your personality, and everything you bring to the table.Instead of trying to be someone else, it’s time to wear your own shoes. We dive into:Why people feel the need to copy others in new rolesThe impact of losing your authenticityHow your unique journey is your biggest strengthBuilding confidence in your own way of doing thingsIf you’ve ever doubted yourself stepping into something new, this episode will help you back yourself, trust what you bring, and show up as you.Because the best version of the role… is your version of it.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. Don’t Panic – Managing Rising Fuel CostsIn today’s episode, we tackle a challenge many businesses are facing right now — rising fuel costs and the pressure it puts on margins. The key message? Don’t panic.Instead of reacting emotionally, this episode focuses on staying calm and thinking creatively about how to manage increasing costs. It’s about looking for practical, effective ways to adapt your business without damaging relationships or long-term growth. We also dive into the importance of open and honest communication with your customers. If costs need to increase, bring your customers on the journey with you. Explain the situation clearly and build trust by committing to fairness — if fuel costs come down, pass those savings back. Most importantly, this episode highlights the power of partnership. Work with your customers, not against them. When both sides collaborate, share challenges, and stay flexible, stronger and more resilient business relationships are built. This isn’t just about surviving cost increases — it’s about using them as an opportunity to strengthen trust, improve communication, and grow together.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. In today’s episode, I talk about one of the biggest challenges business owners face — finding the right people for a management team.Building a strong management team is critical to the success of any business, but the reality is that many of the best people are not found through CVs or traditional recruitment processes. In my experience, most senior hires come through:Personal recommendationsNetworking eventsIndustry reputationPeople you have worked with beforeTrust and reputation often matter far more than what appears on a CV.Today, however, AI is increasingly controlling what CVs are seen and which candidates make it through the first stage of recruitment. While technology can help filter applications, it cannot replace the value of knowing someone, understanding their reputation, or receiving a trusted referral. In this episode, I explore why relationships and reputation still play a huge role in building strong management teams, and why business owners should never rely entirely on automated systems when making important hiring decisions.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. In today’s episode, I ask an important question for anyone buying, selling, or running a business: how do you really value goodwill?Goodwill is often one of the biggest components when purchasing a business, but it can also be one of the most fragile. Its value is built on reputation, customer trust, brand perception, and the confidence people have in the business. But what happens when things go wrong?A business can face many unexpected challenges — negative PR, a product recall, the loss of a key customer, or a sudden market shift. Any of these can quickly affect the goodwill value of a business.I also talk about an interesting comparison: goodwill in a business is a bit like a new car. The moment you take ownership, the value can drop until you prove yourself and show that the business will continue to perform under new leadership. In this episode, we explore how goodwill is valued, why it can change quickly, and what business owners can do to protect and rebuild it when challenges arise.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. In today’s episode, we talk about the sudden pressure that comes with becoming a business owner overnight. One day you might be working for someone else, thinking about buying a business. The next day you wake up and suddenly everything is your responsibility — the staff, the customers, the suppliers, the building, the finances, the taxes, and the future of the company. When I bought an advertising agency, I went from being someone interested in buying the business on Wednesday to waking up on Thursday morning as the owner responsible for 60 employees and everything that came with running the company. That shift brings huge pressure, stress, and anxiety. It’s very different from starting a business slowly and growing it over time. When you step straight into ownership, the weight of responsibility lands immediately. In this episode, we explore how to manage that pressure, how to prepare mentally for the responsibility of leadership, and why having a clear plan from day one is essential for protecting both your business and your mental health.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. Most business deals don’t start in a boardroom. They start with a cup of coffee. This morning on my daily show I talked about how deals actually begin when you're looking to buy a business.People often think acquisitions start with lawyers, accountants, and formal negotiations. But the reality is very different. Many deals start with a simple conversation.Years ago, when I bought one of my businesses, the entire deal started with a cup of coffee and an offer of €100,000.To be honest, it was a mad, stupid offer. But it did one very important thing. It started the conversation. That conversation eventually turned into a €5 million deal. The lesson? You don’t need the perfect offer. You don’t need the perfect timing. You just need the courage to start the conversation. If you're thinking about buying a business or doing deals, remember:Many opportunities begin with something simple…A coffee and a conversation.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. In this episode of Mark’s Morning Show, I talk about something that almost no one prepares you for when doing a management buyout, management buy-in, merger, or acquisition — what happens on Day One after the deal is done.Entrepreneurs spend months — sometimes years — preparing the transaction. You raise capital. You build the PowerPoint decks. You prepare cash flow projections. You pitch to banks, financial institutions, or VC funds. You negotiate. You deal with setbacks. You finally close the deal. Then the papers are signed. The money changes hands. And the next morning… you walk into the business as the new owner. That’s where many leaders fall down. When I paid £5 million for a company after nine intense months of negotiation and due diligence, I handed over £3 million at closing — and the following morning I didn’t even have an office. I was operating out of a boardroom. More importantly, I didn’t have a clear Day One plan. What were my critical priorities?Who did I need to meet first? What message was I giving the team? What decisions couldn’t wait? What culture was I setting from hour one?Too many entrepreneurs focus on getting the deal done but fail to plan for leading the business from Day One.In this episode, I break down:Why the first 24 hours after a management buyout or merger are criticalThe psychological shift from “buyer” to “leader”The common mistakes new owners makeWhy clarity beats complexity in transitionHow to create a practical Day One execution planThe importance of visibility, communication, and decisive leadershipIf you’re planning a management buyout (MBO), management buy-in (MBI), acquisition, or merger — this episode will help you avoid one of the biggest leadership mistakes entrepreneurs make.Because closing the deal is only the beginning.Day One is where leadership really starts.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. In today’s episode of Mark’s Morning Business Check-In, we tackle a hard truth many people avoid:So many people say they’re sick of their job… but never actually leave. For years they say: “I hate this place.” “I don’t like the company.” “I’m going to move next year.”But next year comes — and nothing changes. This episode is about the gap between intention and action. It’s about the danger of living in your head, watching others succeed, fantasising about a better life — but never taking the steps required to move forward. We also reflect on bold decision-making, including Richard Branson selling a company for $500 million after initially not wanting to sell — and what that teaches us about timing, clarity, and action. One practical challenge from the show: Put a date in your diary — 25th February 2027 — and ask yourself: Am I still sick of my job? Or did I finally take action? This episode is for anyone feeling stuck in their career, business, or life — and needing a push toward real change.Because nothing changes if you don’t.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. There was a time in business when I kept moving the goalposts. We’d get close to a target… and instead of letting the team hit it, celebrate it, and build confidence — I’d stretch it.“Let’s push a bit more.” “Let’s make it bigger.” “We can do better.”Sounds ambitious, doesn’t it?In reality, it slowly drained momentum. What I learned the hard way is this: Small wins build big businesses. When you allow yourself and your team to hit a target, you create belief. Belief builds confidence. Confidence builds performance. Performance builds growth. In this morning’s show, I talked about disciplined goal setting, leadership responsibility, and why constantly changing the target can quietly damage culture and motivation. If you’re an entrepreneur, founder, or leader trying to grow a business the right way, this conversation will resonate.#Entrepreneurship #Leadership #GoalSetting #BusinessGrowth #FounderMindset #TeamCulture #SmallWinsMark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. In this episode of Mark’s Morning Business Check-In, we explore a critical question for every entrepreneur and business owner: what type of salesperson are you?Are you rushing to close the deal, truly listening to your customer’s needs, or simply waiting for your turn to push a solution that may not fit? The way you sell determines not only your results today, but the quality of customers, repeat business, trust, and long-term growth you build in the future. We also discuss one of the biggest early-stage business challenges — the pressure to make sales — and how this can lead to discounting too quickly, underselling your value, or offering the wrong solution. Real success in sales comes from understanding your true value, your product’s worth, and building loyal customers who trust you to deliver. If you’re an entrepreneur, founder, or salesperson looking to improve your sales mindset, customer relationships, and long-term business growth, this episode is packed with practical insight and real-world experience.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. In this episode of Mark’s Business Check-In, Mark speaks directly to entrepreneurs and small business owners about a trap many people fall into early: getting distracted by selling their company instead of focusing on building a strong business. After the first year or two, it’s common to start asking: “What’s my business worth?” “Who would buy it?” “How do I exit?” But Mark explains why this mindset can pull your time, energy, and focus away from what actually grows the company — customers, revenue, systems, and momentum.Mark shares real-world insights from being involved in business deals himself, including how due diligence, negotiations, and sale discussions can take months (even a year) and drain leadership focus — especially in a small company where the owner is the key driver. The core message: stay on the journey, build a 10–15 year plan, and keep executing. If an offer comes, great — but don’t build your daily thinking around an exit that may never happen. Focus on growth, resilience, and long-term direction. This is a practical episode about entrepreneur mindset, business strategy, long-term planning, and staying focused when business feels hard.selling your business, business exit strategy, how to sell a company, entrepreneur mindset, small business strategy, business growth, long term business plan, focus in business, business planning, scaling a small business, business owner advice, founder focus, building a business, due diligence process, business acquisition, entrepreneurship Ireland, entrepreneurship UK, Mark Beggs, Mark’s Business Check-In, business coaching, business mentorMark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. Are you really ready for a crisis?Over the past two shows, we’ve been talking about crisis management and the uncomfortable truth many businesses avoid:It’s not the crisis that destroys companies —it’s the lack of preparation inside the management team.I shared my own experience of losing over €500,000 when a customer went bust… and the hard lesson that our team wasn’t ready.Today’s follow-up went even deeper:sometimes you must actively test your management team to see if they can handle the unthinkable — product recalls, lost customers, cash shocks, or sudden disruption.Because in business, the question isn’t if a crisis will come…it’s when.🎧 Catch the podcast and ask yourself one question:Is your team truly prepared?#CrisisManagement #Leadership #BusinessContinuity #RiskManagement #Entrepreneur #ManagementTeam #BusinessGrowth #PodcastMark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. n today’s episode, we talk about marketing and advertising — and why the real goal hasn’t changed in 50+ years: get people to notice you, remember you, and buy from you.I start with a brilliant story from the advertising world: a daring Guinness pitch designed to prove one thing — if you want the account, you have to be unforgettable. That story leads into the bigger lesson for every business owner: standing out isn’t about spending the most money — it’s about being clever, consistent, and memorable. We cover why marketing can feel like “a shotgun approach” (sometimes you hit the right person at the right time, sometimes you don’t), and why big numbers like webinar sign-ups or followers don’t always translate into sales. You’ll also hear practical ways to market on a small budget:Where your customers eat, drink, shop and waitWhy local marketing still works (hairdressers, barbers, takeaways, posters, leaflets)How to test small ad budgets on social media without burning cashWhy your message, slogan, and brand cues matter more than the platformWhy it’s smart to study competitors and copy what’s already working (then improve it)If you want more customers and better results from marketing, this episode will help you stop guessing and start focusing on what actually works.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. If you’re running a business, one of the hardest jobs you’ll ever do is building the right team around you — especially at senior level. In today’s episode, I share a story (straight from my book You Need a Neck Like a Jockey’s Bollocks to Be an Entrepreneur) that shows what “teamwork” really looks like… and what it feels like when you turn around and realise your team isn’t behind you.I also share a real business lesson from when we hired a senior sales leader who looked perfect on paper — and within months we learned they were the wrong fit for our culture. The cost wasn’t just money (including an expensive exit package). The real cost was culture, momentum, pressure on the rest of the team, and the cracks that start to appear across the whole company. This episode is all about:How to choose the right person for senior rolesWhy “brilliant” people can still be a bad fitThe hidden cost of getting hiring wrongPractical ways to test culture fit before you commitWhy small businesses can’t afford “it’ll do” hiresIf you’re hiring, promoting, or building a management team — listen before you make the next appointment.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. In today’s podcast, I shared a deeply personal journey about how discovering MindStore — and the work of its founder, Jack Black — changed the direction of my life when everything felt lost. After a robbery in which I was stabbed, I was forced to close my business and start again from the ground up. I went from running a business to flipping burgers, facing a reality where the future felt uncertain and the goals I once had seemed completely unattainable.Finding MindStore became a turning point.Through powerful mental training and visualisation techniques, I began to rebuild belief, regain focus, and see possibilities where I had only seen setbacks. Step by step, that shift in mindset helped me move toward achievements that once felt impossible — changes that I genuinely believe would not have happened without the influence of Jack Black and MindStore. For more than 30 years, MindStore has helped individuals, leaders, and businesses harness the power of the mind to:Reduce stressIncrease creativity and clarityImprove performanceAchieve meaningful personal and professional successThis episode is for anyone who feels:Knocked down by life or businessStuck, overwhelmed, or starting againUnsure how to reach goals that feel out of reachBecause sometimes the biggest transformation doesn’t begin with circumstances — it begins with how we think.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. This morning’s conversation explored the word “chancer” — a term often used in Ireland and the UK to describe someone who appears to be taking opportunities without fully knowing what they’re doing. But in business, being a chancer can mean something very different. Many entrepreneurs start with vision, belief, and courage, not perfect knowledge. They make mistakes, learn as they go, and bring the right people around them to turn an idea into reality. What looks like luck or guessing from the outside is often bravery, persistence, and willingness to try.The dictionary defines a chancer as “a person who exploits any opportunity to further their own ends.” Today’s discussion challenged us to rethink that meaning — because sometimes the people willing to take the chance are the ones who build, create, and lead. This episode is for business owners, entrepreneurs, and anyone starting something new who may feel unsure but keeps going anyway.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. You can’t control tomorrow — but you can control today. Your actions right now, or even an hour from now, shape how today unfolds, and today is what starts the journey forward. Life and business are about moving forward, not wasting energy looking back. What’s done is done — even if you’re not happy with the past. One of the biggest pressures business owners feel is being told they should be “working on their business, not in it.” The truth is, you can only work on your business when you have people who can work in it. Someone handling accounts. Someone managing credit control. Someone in marketing, sales, and most importantly, someone answering the phone.Until you have that, you have to work in your business.I’ve been to networking events where I left feeling inadequate — like a failure as an entrepreneur — because I wasn’t spending a full day a week working on the business. The reality was simple: at that time, it was just me. And when it’s only you, working in the business isn’t a weakness — it’s survival.Don’t let gurus, websites, speakers, or early-morning talks make you feel stupid or behind. Working in your business is exactly what you should be doing until turnover and profitability allow you to build a team. When we were building our business, the time we worked on it didn’t happen during the day. It happened two or three evenings a week, after everyone else had gone home. We’d sit in a restaurant with a spreadsheet and a plan — that’s where strategy happened. During the day, we worked in the business.Only later, when the team was in place and the business could run without us, could we step away for a full day or even a weekend to work on the business — without worrying because everything was still running. So if it’s just you right now, don’t feel inadequate. You’re not behind. You’re building. Work in your business until it works — and then, and only then, work on it.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. his morning’s show explored why Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill is still one of the most important books every business owner and entrepreneur should read.We talked about why all business owners are creative by necessity. Running a business means constantly solving problems, adapting to challenges, and finding ways forward when the path isn’t obvious. Creativity isn’t optional in business — it’s a survival skill. The conversation also focused on perseverance. Success in business rarely comes from one big moment; it comes from continuing when things are difficult, uncertain, or uncomfortable. Often, people give up without realising how close they are to a breakthrough — an event, opportunity, or decision that could change their life for the better. This episode is a reminder that mindset, belief, creativity, and persistence matter just as much as strategy. Making someone redundant is never easy, but how it’s done matters more than most people realise. In this episode, I talk about the responsibility business owners and leaders carry when they have to let someone go. Behind every redundancy is a person with hopes, dreams, responsibilities, and a future, and for a period of time, that decision will make life harder for them.I discuss why treating people well during redundancy isn’t just the right thing to do — it’s the human thing to do. From offering support like upskilling opportunities, CV help, or making introductions to new roles, there are ways to soften the impact and show genuine care.Redundancy doesn’t have to be handled coldly or mechanically. We are all human, and how we treat people in difficult moments stays with them. They may not thank you today, but they may remember how you treated them in the future. As I often say, you never know who you’ll meet again in life. Treat people with respect, dignity, and kindness — especially when the conversation is hard.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. Today’s show focused on one of the fastest but most misunderstood ways to grow a business: buying another company. Most business owners assume acquisitions are only for people with millions in the bank. That’s simply not true. Buying another business doesn’t always require huge upfront cash — it requires planning, creativity, and the confidence to think differently. We talked about why more people don’t pursue acquisitions, even though they’re often the quickest route to business growth. From structured payments over time, using existing cash on balance sheets, asset value, and combining operations, there are many ways to finance an acquisition without putting your business at risk. The real barrier isn’t money — it’s mindset. Most business owners don’t have the courage to combine businesses or explore acquisitions, even when it could significantly accelerate growth and build long-term value.Buying another company isn’t about ego or scale for the sake of it. It’s about intuition, planning, and using what already exists to build something stronger.🎧 The episode is now live on the podcast.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. This morning’s show focused on marketing that actually works, especially when budgets are tight. We talked about why business owners need to spend their marketing money wisely instead of chasing shiny ideas or reinventing the wheel. If your competitors are already doing something that works — study it and copy it. Reinventing the wheel costs time and money most businesses don’t have. Smart marketing starts with understanding your market, not trying to be clever. We also covered the importance of knowing where your customers are eating, working, and living, and focusing your marketing efforts exactly there — not everywhere at once. Finally, we spoke about being careful with social media spend. While it can look busy and productive, it often delivers very little return if it’s not targeted properly. Marketing should be measured by results, not likes or views. This episode is about clarity, focus, and making your marketing budget work harder, not louder.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. Burnout doesn’t begin when you’re tired — it starts much earlier. In this episode, I talk about how burnout often begins with overcommitment, blurred boundaries, constant pressure, and ignoring early warning signs, especially for business owners and entrepreneurs. “You have to do what most people won’t do to have what most people don’t have” is especially true for business owners and entrepreneurs. Building a successful business requires making uncomfortable decisions, staying consistent when motivation drops, and doing the work others avoid — planning, learning, adapting, and taking responsibility. Most people want results without sacrifice, but sustainable business growth comes from long-term thinking, resilience, and a strong entrepreneurial mindset. Delivering great service means doing what you promise, providing real value for money, and often exceeding expectations. But when customers are allowed to abuse staff, control decisions, or dictate how a business operates, the balance is broken. At that point, the customer becomes the boss and the business owner becomes the servant — and that’s not leadership, that’s survival. Chasing sales at the expense of staff wellbeing, boundaries, and mental health destroys culture and ultimately the business itself. Strong businesses set standards, protect their people, and understand that great customer service never means losing control of your business, your values, or your life.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. What is the one question that could change your life

Today on the podcast, I talked about the power of asking one bold Question of the Week — the kind of question that drives real business growth and personal development. I’ve set a clear goal for podcast growth by writing down the number of daily listeners I want and asking myself one simple question: How do I get there? Not by asking others who might tell me it’s unrealistic, but by activating my own entrepreneurial mindset. When you write a big goal down, your subconscious mind starts working on it all week — spotting opportunities, partnerships, and smarter ways to scale. You may not have the full answer immediately, but you’ll uncover solutions that can move your business forward faster than you imagined. The right question has the power to accelerate growth by months, even years — that’s how powerful focused thinking really is.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. He is the co-author of several business and entrepreneurship books and also writes dyslexic-friendly children’s books to help young readers build confidence and a love of learning.Mark runs a daily morning business show where he shares practical insights on entrepreneurship, leadership, and buying and growing businesses. For many business owners, Thursday is the most stressful day of the week. It’s the day spent checking bank accounts, chasing late payments, and trying to make sure there’s enough cashflow in place to cover Friday wages, suppliers, and business commitments. In this episode of Mark’s Morning Business Check-In, I talk openly about the reality of cashflow pressure in small businesses and why getting paid on time is not about being difficult — it’s about responsibility.I introduce the idea of the Circle of Cashflow — the flow of money from one business to another. Money comes into your business so you can pay staff, suppliers, and partners, who then rely on that money to meet their own obligations. When one link in the chain breaks without warning, the pressure doesn’t disappear — it moves. We explore:Why late payments create stress for business ownersHow cashflow affects paying staff wagesWhy communication matters as much as payment timingHow a simple call or text can reduce financial pressureWhy cashflow problems are common in small businessesThis episode is for small business owners, freelancers, and company directors who want an honest conversation about cashflow, responsibility, and keeping the business moving forward.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business. failure is often treated like something to hide in business — but the reality is very different.Every business experiences failure every single day. Missed targets. Decisions that don’t land. Conversations that go wrong. Strategies that don’t work the way they should. For business leaders, failure isn’t an exception — it’s part of the job.In this episode of Mark’s Morning Business Check-In, I talk about why failure isn’t a big word for experienced business owners, and why the real skill isn’t avoiding failure — it’s finding a way through it and continuing to move forward. We explore:Why failure is normal in leadership and entrepreneurshipHow pressure and fear distort how leaders view mistakesThe difference between failure and learning in businessWhy resilient companies don’t avoid failure — they adapt to itThis episode is for business owners, founders, and leaders who want a more honest, realistic way of thinking about setbacks, pressure, and progress.Mark Beggs is a dyslexic entrepreneur, author, and business mentor with over 30 years of experience in business.
