Being Black In Germany episode 3
Welcome back to “Being Black in Germany.”Today, I want to talk about something many Black people experience after moving to Germany: working, connecting with colleagues, and trying to make genuine friends.Finding a job can already be challenging—especially when German is not your first language. But even after getting the job, you may sometimes feel that you must work twice as hard to prove yourself. You might also wonder whether someone’s behaviour is simply part of German culture or whether you are being treated differently because you are Black.People may touch your hair, ask where you are “really” from, make uncomfortable jokes, or assume that you do not speak German. These experiences may appear small to other people, but when they happen repeatedly, they can make you feel isolated.Making friends can also be difficult. In Germany, many people form close friendships at school or university and keep the same social circle for years. They may be friendly at work but still keep their private lives separate. This can feel like rejection, especially if you come from a culture where people invite each other home and build relationships quickly.I have learned that making friends here often requires patience and initiative. Joining a church, sports club, parents’ group, language exchange, or community organisation can help. Friendships may develop slowly, but that does not mean they cannot become meaningful. At the same time, you should never feel that you must change your identity to be accepted. You deserve a workplace where you are respected and friendships where you can be yourself. If you are Black and living in Germany, have you found it difficult to make friends or feel accepted at work? I would love to hear about your experience.Remember: you are not alone, and your experience matters.Thank you for listening to “Being Black in Germany.” Please follow the podcast and share this episode with someone who may need to hear it.

Marriage Seasons: Episode 7
Resentment often begins with unresolved hurt. Maybe you felt ignored, betrayed, unappreciated, unsupported, or repeatedly disappointed. You tried to move forward, but somewhere inside, the pain stayed. In this episode of Marriage Seasons, we talk about how resentment can quietly grow in a marriage and create emotional distance between two people who still love each other. We explore recognizing hidden resentment, communicating unresolved hurt, letting go of bitterness, taking accountability, and beginning the process of healing.Forgiveness doesn't mean pretending that nothing happened. Healing requires us to acknowledge the hurt instead of burying it.

Marriage Seasons: Episode 6
Trust is one of the foundations of marriage, but once it is damaged, rebuilding it can feel almost impossible. Whether the hurt came from dishonesty, broken promises, betrayal, secrecy, or repeated disappointment, trust doesn’t return simply because someone says, “I’m sorry.”In this episode of Marriage Seasons, we talk about what it really takes to rebuild trust. We explore how honesty, accountability, consistency, patience, and changed behavior can slowly create safety again. We also talk about why the hurt spouse may need time—and why healing cannot be rushed.

Marriage Seasons: Episode 5
What does real accountability look like in a marriage?Saying “I’m sorry” is important, but what happens when the same hurt keeps happening? In this episode of Marriage Seasons, we talk about taking responsibility for our words, actions, and the pain we may have caused our spouse. We explore defensiveness, genuine apologies, changed behavior, and why accountability is essential when rebuilding trust. James 5:16 reminds us to confess to one another and pray for one another so that healing can begin.Marriage isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being willing to recognize when we are wrong, take responsibility, and choose to do better.

Marriage Seasons: Episode 4
Forgiveness is one of the hardest parts of marriage because the person you love the most can sometimes be the person who hurts you the deepest. Forgiveness does not mean pretending the hurt never happened. It does not mean that what your spouse did was acceptable. And it does not mean trust automatically returns. Forgiveness is choosing not to allow the pain of what happened to control your heart and your marriage. Sometimes you may have to forgive while you are still hurting. You may forgive today and feel the pain again tomorrow. Healing can take time. And remember: forgiveness and reconciliation are not exactly the same thing. Rebuilding a relationship also requires honesty, accountability, changed behaviour, and time.
