Ayooo, I'm back with another classics mix, this time we cover one of my first loves, progressive trance. I really loved this era of trance, it was when I was first getting into the scene in the mid to late 90's. I fell in love with this sound right away before getting into house music. It really was a different era that I am happy to have grown up in musically and all of these tracks take me back to that time when everything was new and I was just a puppy, really great memories. Alright, I'm so happy to get this mix out to you guys finally. I've had it in the back of my mind for a long time. I vividly recall buying my first Olav Basoski record In Vancouver at Otis Records in 1999. I had been dj'ing less than a couple months and it was a used copy of Samplitude 6. Hearing the tracks on that record completely changed my perception of what I thought house was, being a huge disco fan I fell in love with Olavs's production style and the way he used his samples. Long story short it was a game changer and a huge influence then and now on the style of music I play. Seeing him play back then at Frostee 4 and Magic Mountain are memories I'll never forget, if you were there you know. I hope I did his music justice on this mix, I mainly stuck with original productions from the Samplitude series and from his excellent label Rootz Records. For me it's the purest form and really the remixes could be a whole other mix on their own. Olav if you read this thanks so much for all you've done for house music, you should be super proud of everything you've accomplished, quite simply you were a game changer for myself and a lot of people. Alrighty, Apparently I've been dj'ing 15 years so I wanted to do a little throwback mix for y'all. This one concentrates on a time where I was really starting to dig a little deeper with house. The time period is from 1998-2004 when I had just moved to Vancouver and was discovering a bigger scene than what I had been exposed to. It was a really great time for me and the music reflects that. If you were around then and hanging out at the World, Celebrities, Odyssey, or any of the after hours then you'll likely recognize a lot of this stuff. While they may not be classics to everyone each of them has a special memory attached to it. Tons of vocals in this one and really funky all the way, some things never change.
