Ep. 7 - Are You Living on Autopilot Without Realising It?

In this episode, Gill and Barbara explore what it means to live on autopilot — and how easy it is to drift into a life you didn’t consciously choose. They share personal experiences of waking up to that realisation, the role of unexpected events in forcing change, and the ongoing challenge of living intentionally when life gets busy again. This conversation covers:Recognising when you’re living on autopilotThe “wake-up moments” that trigger changeAwareness vs waiting for something to happenNavigating seasons where life feels out of alignmentRedefining what intentional living looks like in real lifeThe question that anchors everything: Am I happy? Ep. 6 - What's happening to me?

We weren’t planning to talk about perimenopause. It wasn’t the topic for this episode. But somewhere in the conversation, we realised something we couldn’t ignore…We are having completely different experiences of midlife.Barbara is in it.Deep in it.And I’m sitting here thinking…should I be feeling something? That question alone cracked something open.Because no one really explains this phase of life.We were taught about puberty. We were prepared for that. But this? This feels like something you just… arrive in.Quietly. Gradually. Confusingly.Or not at all.The part no one talks aboutWhat struck me most in this conversation wasn’t just the symptoms Barbara described. The brain fog.The memory lapses. The emotional swings. It was how long this phase can last.Years.Not weeks. Not months.Years of trying to work out what’s you… and what’s something else entirely. And even then, there’s no single version of it.Some women are hit hard.Others barely notice. Some feel like they’re losing themselves.Others feel like they’re finally letting go.Is this hormones… or is this life? That was the question that kept circling for me.Because at this stage of life, everything is shifting anyway.Work.Identity.Energy.Perspective.So how do you separate what’s biological… from what’s simply part of growing into who you are now?And maybe you don’t.Maybe that’s the point. No two experiences are the sameIf this episode reinforced anything, it’s this:There is no single midlife experience. No neat label. No checklist. No “this is what it should look like”.Just women navigating change in real time.Trying to make sense of it.Trying to give themselves a bit more grace.Trying to understand that they’re not losing their mind.Listen to the full episode🎙️ Midrising: Real Talk – Episode 6Is This Perimenopause… or Am I Just Losing It?If you’re in this phase — or heading towards it — I’d love to know:Are you feeling it?Or are you, like me, wondering if you should be?MidrisingWhen midlife stops happening to you… and starts happening with you.Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work. Ep. 5 Losing Control

Most of us spend our lives trying to stay in control. We build plans.Careers.Routines.Identities.All designed to make life feel stable and predictable. And then something happens that reminds us that control might have been an illusion all along. In this episode of Midrising: Real Talk, Barbara Scalzi and I explore what happens when the structure we’ve built starts to slip. When the certainty we relied on disappears. When life throws something completely different at us.We talk about the moments where control quietly unravels — becoming a parent, navigating restructures at work, losing friendships, and the way identity can become tied to career titles more than we realise.Midlife has a funny way of challenging the things we thought were solid.Sometimes losing control feels like a crisis.Sometimes it’s the moment we start seeing things more clearly. As always, this isn’t advice and it’s not a how-to guide. It’s just two women having honest conversations about the messy middle of life.🎙 Listen to Episode 5 nowMidrising isn’t about reinventing your entire life. It’s about waking up inside the one you already have. And sometimes that starts when the plans stop working.Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work. Ep.4 You Don’t Want a New Life

Somewhere along the way, many of us start asking a quiet question. Is it too late?Too late to change direction.Too late to start something new.Too late to build the life we once imagined. In this episode of Midrising: Real Talk, Barbara and I talk about that moment — the one where you realise things have shifted.Maybe it’s your career.Maybe it’s your identity.Maybe it’s simply the feeling that the version of you that got here… isn’t quite the version of you that should go forward.Midlife is often described as a crisis. But the more conversations we have with women around the world, the more we’re convinced of something else. It’s not a crisis. It’s a turning point. In this episode we talk about:• the moment you stop recognising yourself• why many women tie their value to what they do instead of who they are• the courage it takes to start something new• and the realisation that your potential never lived in the job, the title, or the roleIt was always in you.And that means it goes wherever you go next. That’s what Midrising is really about. Not burning your life down and starting again.Just waking up inside the one you’re already living.Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work. Ep. 3 It’s Not Too Late

In this episode of Midrising: Real Talk, Barbara Scalzi and I explore the question so many women quietly ask:“Is it too late?”Too late to pivot.Too late to build something new.Too late to express more of who you are.We unpack:The difference between midlife as a label and Midrising as a decisionReinvention without crisisWhy letting go of the “safe” version of you can be harder than building something newHow your body often knows before your mind doesWhat courage really looks like in midlifeThis isn’t about dramatic change. It’s about agency. It’s about evolving in real time.In front of people.Without waiting for permission.Quotes from this episode:“The potential was never in the job. It was in me.”“Midlife can be a label. Midrising is a decision.”“Film it. Post it. Never look at it again.”“Reinvention isn’t crisis. It’s evolution.”If something in this conversation resonates, reply in the comments or message us.Are you Midrising? This is a public episode.
