Miss Erika's Storytime

In this episode Miss Erika talks about Sally Hemings the mistress of Thomas Jefferson and Susie King Taylor the first Free Black teacher and Civil war nurse. In this episode Miss Erika tells us of Ida Wells an investigative Journalist, and Madam C.J. Walker the first woman entrepreneur in America. Both women fought for recognition and their positions in a society hostile to them. Ida's live was threatened for her ousting of Lynchings in Memphis. Madam Walker faced the world of male business men and white oppression of black success and wealth. Both women are a testament to their communities and women's rights.

The Stories of Alice Ball, and Bessie Coleman are inspiring! They faced adversity with dignity and grace while never giving up their who they were. Both had tragically short lives but burned brightly while they were here! Join Erika as she recounts the lives of two of histories wonder women!

This is a month long series on women who have fought for their place, endured hardships and come out on top. In the first story Anarcha, Betsy and Lucy who endured multiple experimental medical procedures without anesthesia. The second story is about Harriet Jacobs a writer who endures so much to find her freedom and the freedom of her children that she had wrote a book about it so no one else would go threw the same. Frederick Douglass was born a slave who learned to read and changed his world through spoken and written word. He escaped and even the President of the United states agreed with his Abolitionist presentation leading to the emancipation of slavery. John Anderson was a man who fought for his freedom killing a slave catcher in the process. He fled to Canada and was freed by British law.
