Waste Management Division Manager Jeff Orlandini joined Steve this month to talk about challenges we are facing in our solid waste management system.Lane County operates one of best-managed landfills in Oregon, offers more rural transfer sites than any other county in the state, and benefits from an award-winning recycling program. That system is in danger because a Texas company that owns Sanipac, Ecosort and County Transfer & Recycling is taking the waste it collects from Lane County and trucking it hundreds of miles away.

This month, Assistant County Administrator Greg Rikhoff and I had a chance to talk about some of the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead in 2026.
