Welcome,We are Taha and Anainah. Last year we decided we wanted more diverse perspectives on films and wished there was a slightly thoughtful but mostly casual podcast we could listen to. And thus this podcast was born.We hope you enjoy our take on new films, both indie and blockbuster. We talk about everything from writing, acting, directing to deeper themes and how they connect to the outside world. So take a seat and enjoy!

  1. 121

119 - Mother Mary & The Sheep Detectives (Can't help but love them)

Mother Mary, directed by David Lowery and starring Anne Hathaway, Michaela Coel, Hunter Schafer, and Jessica Brown Findlay, might have one of the most unhinged plots of the year. Despite the performances and chemistry between the cast, the film is weirdly compelling and endlessly entertaining. Meanwhile, The Sheep Detectives, starring Hugh Jackman and Emma Thompson, may not reinvent the murder-mystery wheel. Still, its cosy atmosphere and sharp execution make it impossible not to fall in love with it. 🎬 Watch the trailer: Mother Mary| Official TrailerThe Sheep Detectives | Official Trailer📲 Follow & listen: linktr.ee/moviemasalapodcast

118 - The Devil Wears Prada 2 (Can you continue a legacy?)

The Devil Wears Prada Returns! Starring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, Justin Theroux, and Lucy Liu, among so many others, the sequel builds on the original and expands this world 20 years on.  The characters do feel evolved, and so does the world of fashion. Despite its flaws, the film remains incredibly enjoyable and makes you want to go on a shopping spree desperately.🎬 Watch the trailer: The Devil Wears Prada 2 | Official Trailer📲 Follow & listen: linktr.ee/moviemasalapodcast

  3. 119

117 - Michael & Leaving Neverland (What is Jackson's Legacy?)

The new Michael Jackson Biopic, Michael, by Antoine Fuqua, feels like a by-the-numbers biopic. Starring Jackson's actual nephew, its greatest crime perhaps is to take such an incredible and interesting cultural figure and create something relatively mediocre from it. In contrast to the documentary about the allegations against him, Leaving Neverland feels incredibly dense and sometimes hard to keep up with, but it takes its 4-hour runtime to paint a detailed picture that stays with you long after you've stopped watching. 🎬 Watch the trailer: Michael | Official TrailerLeaving Neverland | Official Trailer📲 Follow & listen: linktr.ee/moviemasalapodcast

  4. 118

116 - Roomates & Lee Cronin's The Mummy (Evident where the effort went)

In this episode, we review Roommates, directed by Chandler Levack, and Lee Cronin's The Mummy, directed by...well Lee Cronin. We discuss how Roommates, while following the standard college comedy tropes, still manages to be fun and also how Adam Sandler keeps his friends employed. We also go over how The Mummy manages to feel like more of a vehicle to deliver gratuitous gore than a cohesive, well-told story.

  5. 117

115 - You, Me and Tuscany & Pizza Movie (Mediocre genre films matter)

This week, we talk about the new Rom-Com, You, Me & Tuscany, starring Halle Bailey and Regé-Jean Page, as well as Pizza Movie, a stoner comedy, starring Gaten Matarazzo and Sean Giambrone. We discuss why both films are good enough genre films and why that good enough is still needed.Timecodes:01:06 - Pizza Movie08:19 - You, Me & Tuscany🎬 Watch the trailer: Pizza Movie | Official TrailerYou, Me and Tuscany | Official Trailer📲 Follow & listen: linktr.ee/moviemasalapodcast
