    Music Masala - A Spicy Blend of Music and Life is an exciting Radio 4EB project! Over a period of six months, project staff spent days traipsing around south-east Queensland, discovering not just the music, but the passions and lifestyles of 11 culturally diverse artists. Amela is a Bosnian born singer-songwriter currently based on the Gold Coast. The direction of the song ‘Slow Motion’ was inspired by recently joining Bosnian folk band Cardak which she felt deeply connected to and wanted to bring an element into her current original pop songs. Menaka Thomas is an Australian born Indian Devotional Singer who comes from a musical lineage. Her music blends Indian traditional music with contemporary and other world music influences. The song “Madhura Meenakshi” pays homage to the Divine Mother, “Meenakshi”, whose brilliant eyes are full of care and compassion for all.     Music Masala - East of West

    Music Masla - A Spicy Blend of Music and Life is an exciting Radio 4EB project! East of West plays original music with a focus on improvisation, inspired by the music of the Mediterranean and Balkans. The project was formed in order to explore new compositions that are drawn from the players’ extensive experience playing at both national and international levels. The trio consists of Bosnian-born composer Goran Gajić (Double Bass), Philip Griffin (Oud and Laouto) and Malindi Morris (Percussion).     Music Masala - Son Semilla

    Music Masla - A Spicy Blend of Music and Life is an exciting Radio 4EB project! The song Cumbia de la sal is a perfect example of Son Semilla’s style. Three Aussie Rocker’s discover a love for Latin music while a Colombian rooted in Latin music discovers a love for Rock. This song draws from the Latin Cumbia genre and when sped up moves towards punk, with a rap thrown in for good measure.     Music Masala - Delnava

    Music Masla - A Spicy Blend of Music and Life is an exciting Radio 4EB project! Over a period of six months, project staff spent days traipsing around south-east Queensland, discovering not just the music, but the passions and lifestyles of 11 culturally diverse artists. Delnava Ensemble is a classical/Traditional music ensemble founded in 2017 by Mohammad Javadi (vocalist and Tar player). Other artists in Delnava Ensemble are Mostafa Odabaei (Tombak player) and Azadeh Sham’ee (Oud Player). Iranian classical music relies on both improvisation and composition and is based on a series of modal scales and tunes. The common repertoire (Radif) consists of more than 200 short melodic motions (Goosheh), which are classified into seven modes (Dastgah).     Music Masala - Matt Hsu's Obscure Orchestra

    Music Masla - A Spicy Blend of Music and Life is an exciting Radio 4EB project! Over a period of six months, project staff spent days traipsing around south-east Queensland, discovering not just the music, but the passions and lifestyles of 11 culturally diverse artists. SBS featured multi-instrumentalist Matt Hsu’s Obscure Orchestra plays over 30 instruments collected from around the world. His offbeat musical sensibilities are influenced by eclectic experiences growing up in the gray areas in between different cultures. For ‘Runes dans le Sable’ a spontaneous composition improvised at 4EB, Matt enlisted the talents of French singer Lucie Pegna. The Saba Ensemble was established to provide a rehearsal and performance space in which theoretical, practical and historical interests in Persian music could be explored. Naghmehaye Janfaza (Revitalising melodies) is in Mahoor, composed by Masoud who plays Santoor in the Saba ensemble. The lyrics are from Rumi. Over a period of six months, project staff spent days traipsing around south-east Queensland, discovering not just the music, but the passions and lifestyles of 11 culturally diverse artists.  Saraima draws on her heritage to create a unique and soulful sound. Having traveled through her passion for music to New York, Brussels, Croatia and Israel, Saraima is an avid Ethno participant, with a passion for cross-cultural musical collaborations. She has lent her voice to support ARIA nominated album, Milyakbura with Emily Wurramara, and is a regular voice in the multi-national vocal group, Verandah ChiX, in addition to playing guitar and hand percussion. Saraima is currently working on her own project reflecting the sounds of East New Britain in Papua New Guinea.
