NYDL Episode 72: Little Kids Graduations Doing Too Much

In this episode, SIR and Modern Malcolm uncover the nonsense that goes on with 5th grade graduations. Why do we celebrate this minor accomplishment like its the biggest accomplishment of all? It use to be when it was tradition to as a kid to relish yourself in a juicy Happy Meal from Mcdonalds after graduating the 5th Grade. Now, people are getting a production team and choreographers involved in something if we're honest with ourselves that means nothing compared to what's left on the road ahead. NYDL Episode 71: Worst States to Raise Children

In this episode, SIR and Modern Malcolm discuss the areas in our country that are the worst to raise our children. Many circumstances play a role or factor in this result however, one thing for certain is that it is no accident or coincidence but by design. Sadly enough, all of these states people are flooding to in droves to occupy an already over populated and area of low standards for children. How does that add up to make sense....for your children? Some on the list, sadly enough, we all know far too well and some we don't. One thing for certain, if your children are your priority, prioritizing where they're raised takes precedent over your job, friends, and external family. Tap in, let's grow!

NYDL Episode 70: Catching Vibes Instead of Building Relationships

In this episode Sir and Modern Malcolm discuss the current trend among too many in society to have persistent casual relationships. Sure marriage may not be for everyone although it is clear based on many statistics (you can research it) it benefits children immensely and increase life expectancy of the partners. When you hear terms like “Catching a Vibe” or putting “No Labels” on a relationship status we should know what that really means. As loneliness continues to be a major contributor to declining mental health of many single people it would make sense that these new trends are only helping to worsen the loneliness pandemic. We will break down these trends and explain the risks of not forming meaningful lasting relationships. Think for yourself and free yourself from hollow expectations of this era. Tap In, Let’s Grow.

How comfortable is your home for yourself, your family, and guests? Are you sitting on patio furniture inside the house? Do you have towels for guests? These things do matter and you should want to present yourself in a certain light to people that matter to you. Tune in and listen to what men should have in their homes. Tap in, Let’s Grow.

NYDL Episode 68: A Big Butt and a Smile Ain’t Enough.

In this episode Sir and Modern Malcolm addressing the fellas on a common issue in this era specifically. Why are some men out here really trying to date strippers and known women who get around (like “IG MODELS”)? Some of y’all even going as far to think it’s a good idea to start a serious relationship with a women who has let it be known that they are for the highest bidder. Meanwhile, you passing up a good woman who you could actually build a life with. Men are supposed to be able to identify what women are “for the streets” and what women you bring home for your parents to meet. The internet, social media, and plastic surgery have definitely twisted the perspective of what some men think the baseline for a pretty woman is. We discuss all these issues and more. When you mature enough to want a good woman then you have to know how to identify her. When you want to play around with women “for the streets” you must know that is what you are engaged in doing. This episode is what your OG, pops, uncle, etc was supposed to teach you. It’s all good we got you, no bs straight truth on how to maneuver in the online world or the real world with timeless rules about women. Tap in, Let’s Grow.

NYDL Episode 67: Why Black Kids Are Raised to Be Single

In this monumental episode SIR and Modern Malcolm discuss why most black men and black women in America struggle to coexist in relationships. There is no other place in the world where the black family is more fragmented than in the United States. What is it about building family we don’t seem to understand? The black community once upon a time lead the nation in marriage rates. All of these fragmented homes have consequences. What are some of the negative outcomes for children who come from fragmented homes? Why does there appear to be a constant intercultural war between black men and women? Who is right? Who is wrong? Are we both wrong and lack the maturity to both grow? What can’t be denied is that there clearly is a problem and the black community has to be the one to address it. What is the black parents role in this chaotic environment? What can we do to come together to improve the chances of staying together. How can we turn around the generational failing of too many of our homes. To discuss generational wealth with a majority of fragmented homes is hustling backwards. When a family is united then generational wealth is a much more seamless process because there is structure, respect, order, love, and understanding. This episode is too important to miss. Listen, think, comment, and discuss with your friends and family. Let’s be about family instead of just talking about it. Listen with an open mind…to achieve a different outcome we must think and live differently…tap in let’s grow.

  24. 118

NYDL Episode 66: The Family Success Tax

In this episode SIR and Modern Malcolm discuss the Family Success Tax. Why does making good choices and living a life as a result of those good choices feel like an unnecessary burden at times? Why do some members of your family have so little consideration for the hard work it took for you and your spouse to build the life you all are living? Shouldn’t we spend more time celebrating those family members who did the right thing the right way? Why do too many of us seem to only want to focus on individuals who have not made the best choices and as a result are living the outcomes of their choices? At the end of the day isn’t progression of the family supposed to be the main goal? We can say for sure it doesn’t always feel that way. Lets unpack the hidden tax of being successful (or perceived as successful) in your family and what tends to happen in those situations. Tap In, let’s grow.

  25. 117

NYDL Episode 65: Zoo Within The Zoo

In this episode SIR and Modern Malcolm discuss what appeared to be a harmless visit to the zoo for some kids to enjoy on their spring break. Family time is one of the most important aspects of a child’s life. What could go wrong visiting the zoo? The animals are in their dens / protected areas away from the humans. That was absolutely a fact. What I (Modern Malcolm) wasn’t safe from was the Zoo within the Zoo! People who clearly either have no concept of a family friendly environment including children who are just too wild, people who are inappropriately dressed (mainly women), people cursing out people on their phones, and more. What happens when you don’t recognize your own faults as a people? How can we recover? Has society as a whole just decided to give up? The race to the bottom appears to have started, but you don’t have to join the race. There is a lot to unpack but also a lot to laugh at? Tap in, let’s grow!

  26. 116

    NYDL Episode 64: Inner-cultural Warfare

In this episode SIR and Modern Malcom discuss Inner-Cultural Warfare. What is that might you ask? That is the circumstance within Black America that states there are multiple perceptions of what it means to be black in this modern era and some appear to imprison a segment of our community. In light of the Ja Morant’s story: a suburban black kid who grew up in a two parent household and went to private school. By all accounts there is absolutely no reason for him to be hood / gangsta…yet here we are looking at news stories about him waving a gun on IG live, pointing red lasers (simulating a gun laser) at another NBA team allegedly and so on. What drives even some black suburban youth to believe that being black is being gangsta and ignorant? What happens when you as parents do what it takes to move your family out the hood but you haven’t put the same energy in moving the hood out of yourself and or your family? Why must a significant segment of the black community cling to such a low image of blackness? Why aren’t more of us rising to the countless stories greatness that make up our recent and distant past? Who is at fault? Why is it a badge of honor to be black, poor, and struggling (from some of us)? Why is it looked down on upon to have a united black family that does not financially struggle and has high standards of academic achievement for their children (from some of us)? Why do some of us engage in the “Poverty Olympics” as if there is some prize to be won? How does this impact our collective future and what can be done about it? We often look at the behavior of black youth in the ghettos and have much to say or ignore but we need to start looking more at how the culture of “hood” blackness is influencing even suburban black youth who will ultimately pay a heftier price for their actions since they have far more to lose. Black SUBURBAN parents the spotlight is on you now. We’re going in this episode! Tap in, let’s grow.

  27. 115

NYDL Episode 63: The Most Dangerous Men are…

In this episode we’re talking about the most dangerous men on EARTH….family men. When you have something to live for you overstand that you could die for it. How has having children and a family shaped us and many other men? Also, breakdown how kids can help you get in touch with your softer side. If there is one man I wouldn’t mess with is a man who loves his family. He has a vision and is about the mission of seeing it thru. The world is a better place with these kind of men in it. Tap in. Let’s grow!

  28. 114

NYDL Episode 62: Movie Night Gone Wrong

Ever been to a movie and was reminded why you bought that big beautiful television and sound bar? Going to the movies or any in public space can be a hassle because of peoples unruly kids. Hell, the parents themselves can be uncivil at times. What’s with the breakdown in overall respect of other people in American society? In particular, why can’t kids have fun and be respectful of other adults? Now when we talkin’ about our black community…let’s be honest why can’t black people have a good time….one word: ni$&@$! This episode is going to burn like a perm that needs to be washed out…don’t miss it! We finally having the showdown of the century (and it’s not from Creed III) black folks vs….you know the rest. Tap in, let’s grow.

  29. 113

NYDL Episode 61: Too Grown, Too Young

In this episode we’re talking about kids being too grown too young? Kids are only kids once so how are we ensuring they get the most out of their childhood? What are some of the signs of kids who are shouldering adult problems at an early age? What are some of the dangers of giving kids too much too soon? Modern Malcolm shares some of his past experiences in the classroom with some kids who were growing up too fast. What should parents do to check their children aren’t growing up too fast? As well, we’re talking about kids and sports and why some parents and relatives should be held accountable for putting the burden of taking care of them on a child in the hopes of becoming a professional athlete. This episode is locked and loaded…tap in…let’s grow.

  30. 112

In this episode we're talking about C.P.T. aka Colored Peoples Time and Caribbean Peoples Time depending on who you ask. What is CPT? Where did it originate from? Is there a useful purpose for CPT? How can you use CPT to your advantage and when is it clearly not in your advantage? 32. 110

NYDL Episode 58: Why too Many of US Struggle to Grow?

In this episode we talking about GROWTH and why more of us aren’t growing enough. When should you peak in your life?  Why do some people put so much importance on middle and high school events such as prom, homecoming, etc? If the only good times you can speak on are from high school and middle school what does that say about your development? What happens when we are not prepared to enter adulthood? What are the signs you are not ready for adulthood? These topics and much more will be discussed. We have to outgrow our environment when our environment no longer serves the best of who we are and who we should be. Tap in, LETS GROW.

  33. 109

    NYDL Episode 57: Tyre Nichols

Where do we go from here? Another black person killed by the police but the optics are a little different in this case. Tyre Nichols was brutally beaten to death (died three days later in the hospital from injuries sustained in the altercation) by 5 BLACK Memphis police officers on January 7th, 2023 during a routine traffic stop. While his family and world seems to look for answers we have some for you to reflect on. To understand these answers you must understand two ideas: White Supremacy and Institutional / Structural Racism. Where is the Black Lives Matter or Blue Lives Matter factions in this ordeal…they both have been mighty quiet. There is not simply white faces to blame for this tragedy. How do we meaningfully grapple with that in a constructive way? What does our community need to do to increase safety while living amongst each other? What can we do to meaningfully create the kind of power that can stand up to THE power? Is race the only factor in these kinds of deadly interactions with police? For an uncommon perspective on this matter tune in, listen, and share.

  34. 108

NYDL Episode 56: Calling All Parents

What’s more important than parents? Almost nothing, a good teacher is a distant second. When we see children acting up, wildin out, spazzing out, etc…understand that is usually a reflection of the parenting that child has been groomed by. What happens when your parenting standards don’t align with parents of your child’s friends? How do you respond? If we love our community, then it should be reflected in the way we raise our children. What does that mean with so many children out of pocket in this era and in OUR community? What is being valued and why aren’t other things being valued? What could be more important than our children to carry on our legacy? Let’s get real, let’s discuss and most importantly, let’s get to work while we grow.

  35. 107

NYDL Episode 55: What Should Be Considered Black Excellence?

We talkin about BLACK EXCELLENCE not EXCELLENCE, BLACK EXCELLENCE this episode. Many in our culture think we know what it means but are we capturing everything we should when we say those powerful two words together? Also, this weeks trendin stories are hella interesting, funny, and sobering. Everything’s new this year except who we are and what we stand for. NYDL Episode 51: Stay In Ya Lane - Most Celebrities Don't Move Like the Rest of Us.

In this episode SIR and Modern Malcolm discuss why following celebrity culture doesn’t always add up to what’s going on in the everyday lives of everyday folk. We know for better or worse (mostly worse) the black community over idolizes celebrity culture. Many times to the detriment of your youth. Many of our celebrities who come from the many of the same neighborhoods inject the youth from the most vulnerable environments with toxic behaviors and ideas hiding behind the guise of it being “only entertainment”. There are countless examples where art has imitated life that ended up being lost…and the soundtrack to that loss of life was usually some form of music coming from celebrities. We must break away from celebrity worship if we ever hope to evolve into the people we are supposed to be. We must expect more from ourselves, our parents, and our real OGs. You can enjoy entertainment but we must learn to leave it where it belongs and also over time as we mature move on and expand to other artists and other expressions of art. We, most importantly must finally drop the agendas and focus on FAMILY LITERACY…mastering the art of family unity. Don’t miss this episode…the time has come. To take back our power and reprogram ourselves to be strengthened by the family unit. Tap In. Let’s grow.

    NYDL Episode 47: Healing Time

In this episode, SIR and Modern Malcolm discuss H E A L I N G. This topic is one that for all too many of us has been taboo to talk about publicly. Even though there have been great strides bringing attention to mental health awareness there is still much further to go. There is a significant individual and collective trauma historically that has passed down to a significant number of black families given the horrid historical legacy of Americas past with our enslavement. This legacy has set in motion levels of dysfunction that literally have imprisoned the growth and development of too many of US. There is also historical trauma passed down within other races and cultures as well, that cannot and should not be ignored as well. Most if not ALL of us are healing from something. Ultimately as we grow and gather more life experiences we must open ourselves up to the importance of healing. If we ignore the importance of healing we risk passing down the trauma to our children and then their children and then their….Someone must find the courage to set new patterns, new growth, new norms. We must heal to build effectively. This episode is about ALL of us. Don’t miss this episode. NYDL Episode 44 PROMO: YE

Take a sneak peek. In this episode SIR and Modern Malcolm discuss YE yup that guy…Kanye…Kanye West. I know many of us want the old Kanye but there are some things to learn from the new YE. Sure his thoughts don’t come across as clearly as his lyrics. We’re not denying that. Could he use an interpreter, one could make a strong case for it. What can’t be denied is that his interviews are interesting and fearless. Fearlessness is something many in the black community are not (unless it’s violence against one another 👀…let that sizzle in ya spirit). Is he Anti Semitic, at the same time stating blacks are the original Jews, and saying he admires their unity? Listen for yourself, the media and power is quick to label someone when they aren’t playing by their rules. YE isn’t perfect, but he also isn’t a complete fool. What can we learn from him that we are missing. Let’s dig deeper. Tap In. Let’s Grow!
