Episodes
-
God and the Lamb at the Center
1 Corinthians 15 closes the series with the believer's heavenliness in Christ, the second Adam from heaven. God alone dwells in the heaven above the new heavens and new earth, and God and the Lamb are its center. The heavenly life stands against the earthly one, and Christ makes his people heavenly.
-
The New Creation in Us
Isaiah 65-66, 2 Peter 3:13, and Revelation 21 describe the new heavens and new earth in terms of rejoicing, endurance, righteousness, and the presence of God. Romans 14 and 2 Corinthians 5 then show the new creation already at work in the life of the church.
-
A Garden Better than Eden
Revelation 20-22 closes the Bible with a garden that surpasses Eden by far. Salvation does not send us back to the first paradise. God's grace builds something larger, a garden and a city fused into one, with the throne of God and the Lamb at its center.
-
The Day of the Lord Will Come
Peter's scoffers doubted that Christ had the power to remake the world, and false teachers still deny it. Peter points to Noah's flood as a forecast of the world's dissolution by fire, and he calls God's patience in the delay salvation.
-
Heaven Is My Throne
Isaiah sees near and far events at once, the return from exile and the end of all things in the same frame. God declares that no house built by hands can hold him. When God brings in the new forms, his people must leave the old ones behind.
-
Reading the Prophets Rightly
Two things make the Old Testament prophets hard for us to read. Premillennial and postmillennial schemes both stumble here, because they fail to see events from God's side. Isaiah 65:17-25, with the wolf and lamb feeding together, describes the heavenly kingdom itself.
