He pushed through and became the star of Singaporean football, becoming the all-time top scorer in the S-League. He was also the first foreign talent to captain the Singapore National team. He retired at the end of 2014 to pursue coaching and charity work. Today, Aleksander is a principal of Sport Singapore and ActiveSG Football Academy, where he passes on valuable experience to his adopted country and looks after aspiring children and talent. PART 1 of 2 Aleksandar Đurić was born in Lipag, Yugoslavia. He has overcome many hurdles in life, from an early age when he was born with a growth disorder to representing his flag at Barcelona Olympics in 1992; an event he hitchhiked to. He went on to become a champion kayaker, an Olympian, a soldier who fought in the civil war in Bosnia, a refugee, a professional football player with more than 350 goals and currently the principal of Sport Singapore and ActiveSG Football Academy.
