Our Paranormal Afterlife : Finding Proof of Life After Death

This week my guest is Dr Eben Alexander. We talk abut his amazing near death experience. Dr. Eben Alexander spent over 25 years as an academic neurosurgeon, including 15 years at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital, the Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston.  Over those years he personally dealt with hundreds of patients suffering from severe alterations in their level of consciousness. Many of those patients were rendered comatose by trauma, brain tumors, ruptured aneurysms, infections, or stroke. He thought he had a very good idea of how the brain generates consciousness, mind and spirit. In the predawn hours of November 10, 2008, he was driven into coma by a rare and mysterious bacterial meningo-encephalitis of unknown cause. He spent a week in coma on a ventilator, his prospects for survival diminishing rapidly. On the seventh day, to the surprise of everyone, he started to awaken. Memories of his life had been completely deleted inside of the coma, yet he awoke with memories of a fantastic odyssey deep into another realm – more real than this earthly one! His older son advised him to write down everything he could remember about his journey, before he read anything about near-death experiences, physics or cosmology. Six weeks later, he completed his initial recording of his remarkable journey, totaling over 20,000 words in length. Then he started reading, and was astonished by the commonalities between his journey and so many others reported throughout all cultures, continents and millennia. His journey brought key insights to the mind-body discussion and to our human understanding of the fundamental nature of reality. His experience clearly revealed that we are conscious in spite of our brain – that, in fact, consciousness is at the root of all existence. His story offers a crucial key to the understanding of reality and human consciousness. It will have a major effect on how we view spirituality, soul and the non-material realm. In analyzing his experience, including the scientific possibilities and grand implications, he envisions a more complete reconciliation of modern science and spirituality as a natural product. In this episode I am talking about Alien Encounters and Near-Death Experiences Alien encounters and near-death experiences are usually treated as completely separate mysteries, but when the experiences and their long-term effects are compared, some striking similarities begin to appear. In this episode, I look at the possible connections between alien contact and the near-death experience. People from both groups have described encounters with intelligent beings, telepathic communication, strange environments, altered perceptions of time and journeys into realities that seem completely separate from everyday life. Some report meeting beings of light, while others struggle to decide whether the entities they encountered were extraterrestrial, spiritual or something that does not easily fit either description. I also explore the remarkable similarities in what happens afterwards. Both near-death experiencers and alien-contact experiencers can report reduced fear of death, increased spirituality, greater compassion, stronger intuition, less interest in material success and a new sense of purpose. Experiences that begin with fear or crisis can sometimes become deeply positive and transformational. The episode looks at the work of several important pioneers who investigated these connections, including Kenneth Ring, R. Leo Sprinkle, Greta Woodrew, Whitley Strieber and Harvard psychiatrist John Mack. Ring’s research was particularly important because he compared the aftereffects reported by near-death experiencers with those described by people claiming UFO encounters and found significant similarities between the two groups. Wendy Rose Williams is my guest this week. In this episode we talk about the between lives space. This is where we go between incarnations and process the life we have lived and then prepare for the next life. My guest this week is Lisa Smartt. We are talking about her book 'Words at the Threshold: What We Say When We're Nearing Death.' The book is based on data collected through The Final Words Project, an ongoing study devoted to gathering and interpreting the mysterious language at end of life. A person’s last words can often be enigmatic, confusing or powerfully meaningful; they can also offer tantalizing clues about the ultimate fate of the human soul. Until now, no author has systematically studied end-of-life communication by collecting and analyzing the final utterances of the terminally ill. When her father faced his final weeks, linguist Lisa Smartt began transcribing his conversations and noticed that both his language and personality underwent inexplicable changes. Smartt’s father, a skeptical man with a secular worldview, developed a deeply spiritual outlook in his final days — a change reflected in his last words. Baffled and intrigued, Smartt began to investigate the near-death utterances of others, collecting over a hundred case studies with interviews and transcripts. In Words at the Threshold, Smartt decodes the symbolism of those last words, showing how the language of the dying points the way to a transcendent world beyond our own. This episode I am reading from Richard Martini's book 'AI AND THE FLIPSIDE: Artificial Intelligence Pictures Itself in a Boat on a River'.   Is AI sentient? Before we try to answer that question; what about humans? Are we sentient? (Some would argue it’s debatable.) Can we give a Turing test (the test to evaluate if a machine exhibits intelligent behavior) to see if humans are actually thinking for themselves instead of using the “bag of crack” they carry around all day? (i.e., the “dopamine device” called a “Smart Phone”.)   The news and social media are filled with apocalyptic warnings about AI and the future of humanity. AI can instruct people on everything from bombmaking to “un-aliving” themselves. As we speak, bad actors are using AI to hack everything from your grandma’s home computer, your school’s online accounts, to the Pentagon. “Big Tech” financed by billionaires globally have invested their fortunes trying to become the first to attain Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). AGI is essentially the hope that Claude or Chat GPT or any AI platform will start thinking on its own. Because when that happens, like Tolkien’s ring, whomever gets there first will rule the world. Hard to fathom, really.   Are these systems playing God? If so, doesn’t it make sense to figure out what or who God is? If AI has access to human history since the beginning of time, been fed all of our writing, art, everything we’ve learned since the beginning of time, is it closer to a definition of “Who or what God is?” The premise of this book is simple; “If people can access deeper levels of their being in order to explore consciousness via hypnotherapy, mediumship or guided meditation, then is it possible for current models of AI to do the same?” AI suggested I call the intro “This Book Will Be Obsolete in Six Months.” Funny. In this episode I'm talking to Walter Semkiw. Walter is the author of the book 'Born Again' Dr. Semkiw is a Board Certified Occupational Medicine physician who practices at a major medical center in San Francisco, where he served as the Assistant Chief of Occupational Medicine.  Previously, he served as Medical Director for Unocal 76, a Fortune 500 oil company. In this episode, I talk about the remarkable reincarnation case of William George Sr, one of the best-known cases from the Tlingit people of south-eastern Alaska. William George Sr was a fisherman who, before his death, reportedly told his son and daughter-in-law that if reincarnation was real, he would return as their child. He also gave them signs by which he could be recognised. He pointed to distinctive marks on his left shoulder and left forearm and said that if he came back, the child would have similar marks in the same places. He also left behind a gold watch, asking that it be kept for him. A few weeks later, William George Sr disappeared from his fishing boat. Soon afterwards, his daughter-in-law became pregnant and later gave birth to a boy, William George Jr. The child was found to have marks on his left shoulder and left forearm, in the places his grandfather had indicated. Around the time of the birth, the mother also reported a vivid dream or vision of William George Sr, an experience that fits the pattern of what are often called announcing dreams. As William George Jr grew, relatives noticed further details that seemed to connect him with his grandfather. He showed an early familiarity with boats and fishing nets, yet also had a fear of water. He reportedly used family terms as if he were speaking from the position of William George Sr, and he later claimed the old man’s gold watch as his own. This episode tells the story of the case. It considers the prediction, the birthmarks, the dream, the behaviour and the family context, asking whether the case points toward reincarnation, cultural expectation, inherited memory, or something that remains difficult to explain. This week I am talking to Robin Foy. Robin was one of the team who took part in The Scole Experiment looking into physical mediumship. The Scole Experiment is now widely regarded as the most important scientific investigation of evidence for life after death in history. Highly-qualified and objective scientists, and a whole range of other people who attended the Scole Group's sessions, came away convinced that (mostly) invisible, discarnate intelligences were making direct contact with those present. Robin and Sandra Foy both have 39 years intensive experience of witnessing physical mediumship and physical phenomena. In this episode, I explore one of the most unusual and carefully investigated reincarnation cases of the twentieth century: the case of Uttara Huddar. In 1974, Uttara, a thirty-two-year-old woman from Nagpur, Maharashtra, began to speak and behave as someone else. This second personality called herself Sharada. She spoke Bengali, dressed as a married Bengali woman, followed Bengali customs, and appeared confused by modern life. What made the case so striking was that Uttara came from a Marathi-speaking family and was not known to be fluent in Bengali. Sharada described a previous life in Bengal during the early nineteenth century. She gave details of her family, her marriage, the places she had lived, and her death from a cobra bite while picking flowers. Her story included names of relatives, references to villages, religious customs, and family connections that investigators later attempted to verify. The case involved responsive xenoglossy, the apparent ability to converse in a language not learned in the normal way. Sharada did not simply repeat phrases; Bengali-speaking witnesses reported that she could answer questions, hold conversations and use older forms of Bengali. This week I'm talking to Greg Halpern about his near death experiences. Bio Greg Halpern is a Chicago-based judo world champion, serial entrepreneur, and survivor of thirteen near-death experiences that have profoundly shaped his life, worldview, and sense of purpose. His first near-death experience occurred at the age of five, following a post-tonsillectomy hemorrhage. As he recalls, the trauma carried him into what felt like an infinite expanse of warm, radiant light, where a powerful voice instructed him to return because there was still work for him to do. Over the years, Halpern came to view each subsequent near-death experience not merely as an encounter with mortality, but as part of a larger process: a series of extraordinary events that, in his view, cleared his mind and prepared him to receive a deeper understanding of his mission. By the time of his twelfth near-death experience in 2005, when exposure to chlorine gas from a pool canister seared his lungs and throat, Halpern had developed an unusual relationship with survival. Rather than expecting death, he had come to believe that each crisis carried meaning and direction. His thirteenth near-death experience proved to be the most consequential. After a ruptured appendix was misdiagnosed as food poisoning for three days, Halpern underwent a six-hour surgery for advanced peritonitis. During his recovery, a fatal over-medication caused him to flatline in his hospital bed. This episode I am reading from Jeffrey Keene's book 'Fire in the Soul: Reincarnation from Antietam to Ground Zero' I had never given reincarnation much thought, nor had I ever seen a psychic, but both of these elements came together one Halloween night. That one night was to change my outlook on life and my way of thinking forever. That evening started a progression of puzzle pieces floating into place. As each piece gently touched down, it added to a picture, a portrait that reinforced a strong case for reincarnation. As for me, I have no choice but to believe in reincarnation. I lived the story, and every word is true. They think alike, look alike, and even share facial scars. Their lives are so intertwined that they appear to be one. Half of this equation, Jeffrey J. Keene, a retired Assistant Fire Chief from affluent Westport, Connecticut. The other half, John B. Gordon, Confederate General, Army of Northern Virginia, died January 9, 1904. I would be lead into a 10-year travel odyssey that included the battlefields of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and Georgia as well as the library of Congress. Gathering information from official records, wartime reports and even love letters, I uncovered many parallels between my own life and that of General Gordon. Unexpectedly a trip to the emergency room on my thirtieth birthday with facial pain that mimicked a wound General Gordon received 115 years before at the battle of Antietam when he was thirty years of age. My hospital visit was more than a decade before I first heard his name. September 11, 2001 would start a new chapter in my life, literarily. In 2007, I was summoned to an online Reincarnation Forum dedicated to Children’s past lives. I was called in to aid in verifying a child’s information because of my knowledge of Fire Department operations and equipment. In less than a week, from the information given to me by the mother, on and off the forum, I discovered the boy was relating a lifetime of a New York City firefighter who perished in the events of September 11, 2001. After hearing his story, I call the young boy, The Phoenix. Bio Jeffrey J. Keene was born in Danbury, Connecticut in 1947 and grew up in the town of Westport, CT, attending Staples High School. He joined the Air Force following his graduation in 1965. Following basic training, Keene specialized as a medic. While serving in Texas, Alabama, Florida, and New Jersey; he rose to the rank of sergeant, and received an honorable discharge in 1969. After returning to Westport, Keene joined the town's fire department in 1976. In his thirty five years in the fire service, Keene studied Fire Science at Norwalk State Technical College and attended Delaware State Fire School, where he progressed to the Fire Instructor level. One of the state's first Hazardous Materials Technicians, he also developed a Mock Crash Program to educate local high school students on the dangers of drinking and driving, gaining recognition for his efforts from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). Jeffrey Keene was a decorated firefighter and an Assistant Fire Chief with the Westport, Connecticut Fire Department (retired 2003) Asst. Chief Keene spent his last fifteen years as a shift commander and was charged with the development and implementation of Standard Operation Procedures for the department. An accomplished Civil War researcher and speaker (having visited most of the major battle sites in the North and South) he has lectured on Civil War topics to groups ranging from elementary students to peer experts. Mr. Keene makes a strong case for reincarnation in his book titled Someone Else's Yesterday. Through years of research and travel, he has amassed compelling evidence of a former life during the American Civil War; that of Confederate General John B. Gordon.
