Own It SLC
by Sarah 'n' Philip
Recorded in Harvey the Short Bus and inspired by Own IT the live performing arts event in SLC, this podcast is an extension of a visceral experience of synergy. We are the artists, innovators and rebels with a cause. Our goal is to keep listening, questioning and bringing it to the mic. Harvey is a fully operational recording space on wheels. We invite people inside to share their writing, music, thoughts and stories. Our hope is to ignite the spark of art wherever we go. Hosted by SLC poet and recording artist Sarah Kappos, this show is an exploration of how humans be, how they want to become and the role creativity plays in this evolution.

E 145 Mentor and Apprentice: Nan Seymour - Beloved Mentor of Sarah Kappos
Sarah traveled to Tucson to sit in a casita with founder of River Writing and dear friend Nan Seymour. She also planted a secret microphone to record their conversation, which delighted Nan! The episode begins with a stunning read of the poem by Jacob Shores Arguello entitled The Names of Grasses which brings both women to tears. Follow these two lifelong poets into the catacombs of creativity where they discuss art which goes far beyond commodity and becomes a necessity. The depth of their friendship and years spent writing together ripple with a sweet ease.Support the show

Polyamory Bushwhacking to Nowhere: Why Do Men Lose Their Shit at Sporting Events? E137
"It's not the expression of the emotion, it's the lack of control that I don't want," Phil."Well, if you could control it, then you'd probably keep it under lock all the time, cuz you've got things to do, and they're inconvenient" Sarah.A conversation between two people with possibly the most inconvenient relationship...ah the irony. Also, have you noticed, the most passionate male outbursts often occur during the big game? Uncontrollably! Spontaneously!Ah the irony...Stay tuned for part 2, we are gonna do some legit research into this question.Support the show

Polyamory Bushwacking to Nowhere: Why Are We Doing This? E136
Sarah gets mad at Phil for a few things i.e. saying their relationship is non-linear, and preventing her from "dating." They discuss living in different worlds, and the challenge of expressing different layers of Sarah and Phil which could be called the "track stack" if you're a recording engineer. So, how to live a domestic life, and express the other tracks. The answer seems to be, make the leap and keep going cuz the grass isn't greener on the other side."There's still some mystery, even for us, about what we are," Sarah. Support the show

Polyamory Bushwhacking to Nowhere: E135
Exploration of the parallel plot between Sarah n Phil and author Kahlil Gibran with his beloved Mary Haskell. Maybe yin and yang truly are the most creative combo because many duos share a similar (often unwritten) story. Why love someone and choose not to "be" with them? This episode is sprinkled with excerpts from the book "Beloved Prophet" which is the correspondence and journal entries of Mary and Kahlil. Until recently, it was unknown that she played an intimate role in the editing, writing and inspiration for his book "The Prophet." Sarah reads the chapter "On Love" at the end of the episode from "The Prophet."Support the show

Polyamory Bushwhacking to Nowhere: I Will Always Love You E134
Reflections from their trip to Lake Powell where Phil n Sarah hosted an Own It show. Their stage was the deck of a houseboat, their lights were tiki torches. They were joined on stage by the person whom Sarah is currently dating. She asks Phil, "What was that like for you?" The answer is surprising, even to them.Support the show

We recorded in the west desert, and inside Harvey the bus, Menace reflects on the last year. He talks about the sense of urgency he feels as an artist, to share his music. Polyamory Bushwhacking To Nowhere: Collecting Data E132
As scientific as this title sounds, the episode is anything but precise. Think of it as a treasure hunt. There are gems, but we gotta dig. Recorded 2 days after the wedding of Sarah's oldest daughter, new thoughts on monogamy arise. How do you respond to your mistakes? as an artist? as a partner? When is the final decision made about success or failure? When is an art piece or a relationship really done? Sarah and Phil decide it's not so bad, being one another's experiment.Support the show

Polyamory Bushwhacking to Nowhere: Sex E131
This is an episode of full disclosure. In the true spirit of Own It, Sarah n Phil reflect on their sexual relationship. Towards the end, they are met with tragic truths and they stay in the conversation together. As sex can often be, this is an episode about trust. Trust in each other and trust in the listener. "Are you nervous about the release of it?" Phil asks Sarah. To which she responds, "No, it couldn't be any worse than what people say about me anyway." Does it all just come down to whether or not you're sleeping together, or is a relationship decided in more subtle ways?Support the show

Introducing the series Polyamory; Bushwhacking to Nowhere. After 4 years in a polyamorous relationship (with each other) Sarah and Phil look back on what they learned. Did polyamory work? E113 A Taboo Journey
Sarah is reading a book called How to Talk so Kids Will Listen and How to Listen So Kids Will Talk. Somehow this leads Sarah and Phil to talk about the recent trend of micro-dosing and Ayahuasca because Phil's intuition has been telling him to check that stuff out. In an unexpected turn the conversation became quite revealing. Phil talks about feeling blocked and how scary it can be to trust your intuition when it's directing you to something that is taboo in your culture. This episode was recorded via zoom.
