It’s another full-on week behind the scenes at P.X. Farms as we juggle essential maintenance, upgrades and long-term planning across the business. We start by looking at why land drainage is still one of the most important investments on a modern farm, especially with increasingly unpredictable weather. Back in the yard, progress continues inside the boardroom as the new flooring goes down, while better systems are put in place for parts ordering to keep the workshop running efficiently. Our new bio oil boiler is now providing heat across the site, the slug pellet machine continues to test our patience, and the Hilux gets some long-overdue interior repairs. There’s also a big mechanical moment as a new gearbox arrives for the Fendt 942, the plough gets a fresh coat of paint, and preparations begin for fertiliser season with tankers heading out on hire.We also retrofit air brakes to the Fendt 1167, tackle a few workshop mysteries, and keep things honest with some classic farm humour along the way.As always, this is a real look at the decisions, repairs and upgrades that keep a large arable farm moving forward. Recovering a Crashed Car From Our Field, Workshop Repairs & Grain Prices

It’s not every day you find a crashed car in the middle of a field, but that’s exactly what we’re dealing with in this episode. We get stuck into safely recovering the vehicle, assessing the damage, and getting the land back in shape, just another unexpected job in the life of a working farm.Around that, the yard is as busy as ever. Stock taking continues, the boardroom renovation moves forward, the heater is finally commissioned, and the Hilux is back together. There’s welding to be done, steering rods replaced on the forklift, and even time to freshen up the lawnmower. We round things off with a grain price update, looking at where the market sits and what it means for the business right now.As always, let us know in the comments what you want to see more of, recoveries, workshop work, or the business side of farming. For those interested in our new merchandise: https://pxfarms.myshopify.com/P.X. Another Bet, Workshop Wins & Preparing for Brazil

It’s another busy day at P.X. Farms as we work through a full health and safety audit, place yet another bet between James and Gordon, and spend some much-needed time getting on top of jobs in the workshop.Big G has been flat-out, Sandy’s fixing radios, new forklift tyres arrive, and the plough heads off for shot blasting. There are still a few challenges along the way (including yet another issue with the F5 LUG), but for once there’s some genuine positivity as the workshop starts to feel like it’s moving in the right direction, helped by brand new heating going in.We finish the day washing lorries, getting kit ready, and starting preparations for an upcoming trip to Brazil, showing the behind-the-scenes reality of running a modern farming business. As always, let us know in the comments what you’d like to see more of, workshop rebuilds, machinery deep dives, or more of the day-to-day decisions that keep the farm moving. For those interested in our new merchandise: https://pxfarms.myshopify.com/P.X. How New Wheat Varieties Are Created, Inside RAGT’s Plant Breeding Programme

In this video, we go behind the scenes at RAGT to explore how brand-new wheat varieties are developed, from the very first cross in the glasshouse to plots destined for UK and international fields. We start inside RAGT’s state-of-the-art glasshouses, where plant breeders begin the long process of creating new varieties. From crossing parent lines and managing high failure rates, to artificially generating multiple seasons in a single year, this is modern plant breeding at scale. As the journey continues, we look at how varieties are selected for different markets, how rust resistance is bred in, and how data, GPS systems, plot drills and fertiliser spreaders all play a role in narrowing thousands of plants down to just a handful of potential commercial winners. This is a rare look at the science, time, and risk involved in breeding the crops that underpin global food production, and why it can take many years before a new variety ever reaches a farmer’s field.Whether you’re a farmer, agronomist, or simply interested in how food is produced, this video shows the unseen work behind every bag of seed. For those interested in our new merchandise: https://pxfarms.myshopify.com/P.X. Back for the New Year: Crop Trials, Bio-Stimulants & Where Is the Missing Yield?

We’re back for the New Year and straight into the detail as we head out to the Agrii site at Throws Farm to kick off 2026 properly. After some time away, James gets back up to speed on what’s changed, what’s coming, and where the pressure points are for UK farming this season. In this episode we take a deep dive into crop trials, bio-stimulants and soil variability, asking the big question many growers are facing right now, where is the missing yield going, and can technology really help us find it? We look at how bio-stimulants are tested across different soil types, how trials are funded, and what it actually takes to validate performance claims before anything earns a place on the farm.We also discuss changing chemical regulations, whether irrigation needs to become part of future farm planning, and how advances in data, monitoring and crop technology could reshape decision-making on UK arable farms. Along the way, we meet the team inside the glasshouse, break down how trials are structured, and look at how independent agronomy supports better on-farm outcomes. For those interested in our new merchandise: https://pxfarms.myshopify.com/P.X. How Fertiliser Is REALLY Made, Inside The Worlds Fertiliser Capital

In this very special episode, we travel across the Atlantic to Trinidad, the heart of global fertiliser production, to see where the UAN (Urea Ammonium Nitrate) that powers modern agriculture is made. We’re joined by Hannah and Brenton from Proman, one of the world’s leading producers of ammonia and UAN, as we go behind the scenes of their massive manufacturing plant, from the chemistry of ammonia and nitrate production, to the engineering scale that keeps fertiliser flowing to farms around the world. We explore the science, logistics, and global economics behind fertiliser, from factory control rooms and storage tanks to onboard a cargo ship carrying 50,000 tonnes of product.
