Parts of the Whole Podcast

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, but without the parts, there is no whole. When we see our world, we see the overall image, the general, and Parts of the Whole examines the facets that make up our lives, looking at the specific, that I hope will be of interest and create a greater understanding of our life experience.

The Story of Sidwell and The Hand

In 1959, a young white boy in South Africa is shown a sign by an African man he befriended during the apartheid era, and over time comes to believe that maybe his initial interpretation of the sign was wrong. He carries this belief with him for many years until a trip to Brazil clarifies his understanding of the real gift that he was given.

An exploration in storytelling and artistic creativity in treating chronic pain

Cecil Hershler is a medical doctor based in Vancouver Canada, who specialized in treating chronic pain. But his dilemma was that he hated prescribing opioids to his patients and thus began a journey to find a different way to treat chronic pain by deep listening and storytelling.  As a doctor and creative artist, he developed this methodology through innovative workshops from which he had tremendous success. He is now retired and writes poetry. This is the story of his journey.

Parts of the Whole - Episode 3 - What being In Flow can do for your overall well being.

In this, the third of my podcast series, Parts of the Whole, I once again talk with Dr. Cliff Morris, a cardiologist who practices lifestyle medicine in his effort to help heal his patients. In this episode, we explore being "In Flow" or "In the Zone" and how living this way can positively affect not only the heart, but the entire body, mind, and soul, enabling us to live happier, healthier, and more productive lives.

Parts of the Whole Episode 2- Extreme Decision Making

In this episode of Parts of the Whole, I talk with Brad Borkan, author of When Your Life Depends On It: Extreme Decision Making Lessons from the Antarctic, where he recounts some incredible stories that warranted extreme decision making and how what these brave explorers experienced, and the choices they had to make can be viewed in our lives today. These are stories that some people might not know about, and illustrate what can be accomplished by the human spirit, when unknown challenges are presented. And did you know that in the early 1900s, in Antarctica, the only way to communicate was to shout!

  5. 1

Parts of the Whole - Episode One - Lifestyle Medicine

Dr. Cliff Morris, a cardiologist in Richmond VA who works very hard to get his patients off medication and to live a healthy life through the practice of "Lifestyle" medicine talks about how this all coalesces into a large part of the Whole.
