Preparing Our Replacements - 2 Timothy 2:1
The sermon begins with an introduction to the speaker, Pastor Jim Rose, highlighting his extensive experience as a senior pastor and involvement in various ministry boards. The main theme of the sermon revolves around picking good men and helping them do their best—inspired by Jester Nimitz’s leadership philosophy. Paul emphasizes that true success comes from entrusting others with what God has entrusted us: His Word, truth, and grace. Pastor Rose emphasizes this point by drawing comparisons to historical figures like Admiral J. C. Nimitz and Robert E. Lee, who both led their respective forces with a strong sense of purpose. He then applies these principles to modern-day contexts, explaining how many churches focus too much on form rather than substance and fail to properly disciple members for future leadership roles. Throughout the sermon, there are numerous scriptural references, particularly from Second Timothy, to emphasize these points. Hate what is wrong and cling to what is right.” Hebrews 4:11, “For here we have no lasting city, but we are looking for the city that is to come.” Conclusion: Pastor Rose concludes by reiterating the importance of engaging in battle (the challenges faced in ministry), enduring hardships, and entrusting what has been entrusted to us. According to the text: God’s Evaluation: In choosing David, God doesn’t consider external appearances but focuses on the state of one’s heart. The Delight of His Presence - Psalm 16
Pastor Jim Rose begins his sermon by quoting from 1 Samuel, chapter 26, to introduce Psalm 16. He emphasizes that David’s life and teachings are pertinent for contemporary Christians, who often face challenges similar to those David faced. The sermon focuses on two key principles of living for Christ as outlined in Psalm 16. The first principle is putting faith in Jesus as one’s Savior. Pastor Rose interprets this verse carefully: “You take refuge in you,” indicating God’s sovereign protection over believers. The second key idea, which David applies to his situation, is asking the Lord for daily guidance and provision. This leads to the concept of being at all times before us (Psalm 16:7-11). For believers who follow Jesus as their Lord, this constant presence provides comfort, security, and joy. Throughout his sermon, Pastor Rose illustrates these principles with personal anecdotes and examples from David’s life, highlighting how God’s protection and provision are essential in both ordinary times and during challenging periods. The overarching message is that Christians should focus on Christ’s presence and trust His guidance to navigate through difficult circumstances with confidence and joy. Walking On Waves - Matthew 12 22-33
In today’s sermon, Pastor Jim Rose delves into the powerful narrative of Jesus walking on water as recorded in Matthew 14:22-33. Jesus calms the stormy sea, showing his authority over both nature and human souls who were initially afraid and unsure of him. He emphasizes that following Christ is about being willing to get out of one’s comfort zone (the boat) and walk with Him in difficult circumstances. The disciples’ initial fear and later their recognition during Jesus’ calming of the storm exemplify this concept. Pastor Rose ends by encouraging his congregation to be part of the movement God has called them into, becoming wave walkers who stay afloat by following Christ’s guidance through tough situations.
