Freedom Over Fascism Means Putting People FirstFriends, our tax dollars should serve the common good — protecting families, caring for veterans, seniors, children, and ensuring dignity for everyone who calls this country home. When that promise is broken, democracy itself is weakened.Today, taxpayer dollars are being funneled to Big Oil and corporate interests while life-saving programs are cut. This isn’t fiscal responsibility. It’s a moral failure.The federal government continues to provide tens of billions in subsidies and tax breaks to fossil fuel corporations — some of the most profitable companies on Earth — while politicians push budgets that slash Affordable Care Act subsidies, cut Medicaid and Medicare, weaken Social Security, reduce SNAP and food assistance, shrink veterans’ programs, and gut affordable housing. And now there’s talk of handing even more subsidies and tax breaks to Big Oil to rebuild oil drilling infrastructure in Venezuela, even as health care, food assistance, and housing are stripped from families here at home.These choices have real consequences. When health care is taken away, people die. When food assistance is cut, children go hungry. When housing programs are dismantled, homelessness rises. When seniors lose support, fear replaces dignity. When veterans are denied care, our nation breaks its word.This is not accidental. It is a deliberate transfer of wealth and power away from working families and toward corporations and political elites.Freedom over fascism means rejecting a system where public money props up private greed while everyday people are told to accept less. Authoritarianism thrives when people are forced into desperation — when healthcare, housing, and food become privileges instead of rights.Progress means investing in people, not polluters. Every dollar handed to Big Oil is a dollar stolen from families who need affordable healthcare, from seniors relying on Social Security, from veterans seeking stability, and from children who deserve safe homes and full plates.Cutting Affordable Care Act subsidies while protecting oil profits is cruelty. Slashing Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP, and housing assistance while expanding corporate giveaways is abandonment.Power to the people means our budget should reflect our values. Trump’s Word Means NothingDonald Trump says he won’t fire Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.Don’t believe him.We’ve seen this movie before. First comes the denial. Then the threat. Then the pressure campaign. And now—right on schedule—the escalation: Trump has moved to put Powell under investigation, signaling that his earlier reassurances were never meant to be taken seriously.This isn’t leadership. It’s a setup.Trump doesn’t back off when challenged—he retaliates. When he can’t immediately fire someone, he looks for another weapon: investigations, smears, manufactured “cause.” The goal is always the same—control through fear.And if there is one thing Trump cannot tolerate, it’s an independent institution that refuses to serve his ego or his political ambitions.That’s why the Federal Reserve is in his crosshairs.Trump knows markets respond to power. He knows even the hint of interference can move trillions of dollars. And he knows that bullying the Fed—whether through firing threats or investigations—gives him leverage. That leverage isn’t for the public good. It’s for him.This is not new behavior.Trump lies. Then reverses. Then gaslights. And real people pay the price.On immigration, Trump demonizes immigrants with hundreds of false claims linking them to crime—claims repeatedly disproven by decades of research. Yet those lies fueled cruelty: ballooning ICE budgets, masked raids, and terror in our communities.On inflation, Trump falsely claims prices are “way down” while grocery costs are surging and his own tariffs push prices higher. Families are struggling to survive and told everything is fine—while essential programs were cut.On health care, he promised not to touch Medicaid—then backed policies that slashed over a trillion dollars and threw millions off coverage.The pattern is clear: Trump says what people want to hear, does the opposite, and floods the zone with lies to distract from the damage.Project 2025 follows the same script. He disavowed it publicly—then staffed his administration with its authors and signed policies ripped straight from its pages.So when Trump says he won’t fire Powell, but opens an investigation instead, that isn’t restraint. To the people of Greenland,We write in solidarity on behalf of People Power United, a people-powered movement in the United States that champions progress, democracy, and power to the people. We want to be unmistakably clear: we support the people of Greenland—not Donald Trump’s threats or pressure campaigns. Millions of Americans reject authoritarian politics and stand with the principle that nations and peoples have the right to self-determination.The recent attempts by Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance to assert control over your land are not only shameful—they are a threat to sovereignty, peace, and democracy. When leaders talk about taking a place “one way or the other,” they reveal a worldview rooted in coercion, colonialism, and domination, not mutual respect.Let us be crystal clear:Greenland is not for sale.Greenland is not a bargaining chip.Greenlanders are not pawns.Sovereignty Is the PointGreenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark with expanded self-government under the 2009 Self-Government Act, which recognizes Greenlanders’ right to self-determination under international law.Greenland’s future—whether toward full independence, continued self-rule, or another path—belongs to Greenlanders alone. As Greenland’s Prime Minister has said: “Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders.”And the world should respect that—without loopholes, pressure, or intimidation.For context: Greenland’s population has been estimated at about 56,699, with Nuuk home to roughly 19,872 people (about 35%).The Real Motive: Extraction and MilitarizationThis push isn’t rooted in goodwill. It’s rooted in greed and power.Greenland’s resources—and its strategic Arctic position—have become more tempting as the region warms and ice melts. U.S. government assessments have long noted the Arctic may hold roughly 13% of the world’s undiscovered conventional oil and 30% of undiscovered conventional natural gas.And as sea ice declines, shipping routes across the Arctic can be up to ~40% shorter than traditional routes through the Suez or Panama canals—making control of the region even more geopolitically valuable.But this isn’t “partnership.” It’s extraction and control.This is not leadership. It is imperialism dressed up as security.The Arctic Arms Race: A Dangerous EscalationMany Americans do not realize how quickly this kind of rhetoric can slide into militarization.Trump has promoted a major missile-defense initiative—initially described through an executive order titled “The Iron Dome for America”—and the concept has also been publicly discussed as part of a broader “Golden Dome” vision.Whatever the branding, the direction is alarming: more militarization, more escalation, more pressure on smaller nations in one of the most climate-vulnerable regions on Earth.This isn’t diplomacy. It’s escalation.Democracy vs. DictatorshipDemocratic governments do not seize territory because it’s strategic or resource-rich.They do not threaten sovereign peoples.They do not treat self-determination like a real estate deal.That is what dictators do.Anyone who believes in democracy—and the rule of law—must oppose this kind of coercion clearly and publicly, because once a powerful country normalizes bullying, the entire world becomes less safe.A Message to the American PeopleTo Americans reading this: we cannot allow authoritarian politics to be exported beyond our borders. Disinformation and billionaire influence have already damaged democratic trust at home. Friendly reminder: these Democrats also sided with Republicans over the people’s will:* Joe Manchin (WV) supported President Donald Trump‘s border wall and immigration policies and blocked voting-rights reform (Wikipedia).* Kyrsten Sinema (AZ) protected corporate donors over the people’s will (Vox).* In 2023, 33 Senate Democrats joined Republicans to overturn D.C.’s justice reforms (Dcist).* And in 2025, 12 Democrats backed the Laken Riley Act, a bill that did nothing to fix immigration (Common Dreams).* And don’t get me started on Schumer’s budget vote siding with Republicans earlier this yearEach of these betrayals chips away at democracy and hands victory to extremists who reject the will of the people. Friends, we are at an inflection point. The Trump administration’s Project 2025 agenda is deliberately dismantling one of America’s most trusted institutions — the Social Security Administration. Through staffing cuts, office closures, and privatization schemes, they’re weakening the lifeline that millions of seniors, disabled Americans, and working families depend on.This isn’t mismanagement — it’s a calculated attack. The goal: break the system so Wall Street can profit from privatization. But Social Security has never failed us — not during 9/11, Katrina, or COVID. It lifts millions out of poverty and stands as a promise of dignity for every worker who paid in with every paycheck.We must fight back. Together, we can stop office closures, restore staffing, modernize systems, and demand Congress protect and expand Social Security — by lifting the payroll tax cap for the wealthy and ensuring benefits grow with need.An attack on Social Security is an attack on the promise of liberty and justice for all. They’ve deliberately driven our nation into another shutdown, weaponizing government itself to serve their extremist agenda. Trump and Republicans appear to be sabotaging the economy as it is projected the U.S. “could lose $15 billion of its growth domestic product each week the shutdown extends, with a monthlong shutdown leading to an additional 43,000 unemployed people, the Council of Economic Advisers’ warned in the memo. That damage does not account for the 1.9 million federal civilian employees who are either furloughed or working without pay.” Because of Trump and Republican’s chaos, millions of working families are suffering. Nearly 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck , yet Trump and his allies refuse to work in a bipartisan manner to reopen the government and deliver relief.This isn’t leadership — it’s sabotage.Meanwhile, the wealthiest 1% own more than the bottom 93% of Americans. That’s not freedom — that’s feudalism. Trump’s policies reward billionaires, corporations, and cronies while ordinary Americans are left wondering how to pay rent, buy groceries, or keep the lights on.We Deserve to Be Healthy — Not Left to Die in a Manufactured Health CrisisA moral government invests in health, research, and care — not in cruelty. Yet Trump and Republicans have turned a broken system into a full-blown healthcare crisis.Their budget slashes Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, ripping healthcare away from 15 million low-income and working-class Americans. Experts estimate that 50,000 people will die unnecessarily every single year because of these cuts.Their plan would double premiums for 20 million Americans , forcing families to spend 40–50% of their limited incomes on healthcare, while insurance companies deny, deny, and deny necessary coverage to maximize profits.A functioning democracy ensures that no one’s life depends on their bank account.We Deserve to Be Housed — Not Homeless in the Wealthiest Nation on EarthMore than 771,480 Americans are homeless , and 85 million have houses that are uninsured or underinsured — a moral failure in the wealthiest country in history.Instead of fixing it, Trump’s shutdown has furloughed 84% of HUD staff, halting rental assistance and housing-subsidy programs that millions depend on.The National Flood Insurance Program — vital for families in coastal and flood-prone areas — is stalled, delaying home closings and raising buyer risks. An estimated 3,600 home sales — worth $1.59 billion a day — are at risk as the shutdown drags on. While ordinary Americans face eviction and uncertainty, Trump and his congressional allies hand out massive tax breaks to billionaires and real estate moguls. And let’s not even start on the demolition of the East Wing of the White House — a reckless vanity project wasting over $200 million to satisfy Trump’s ego with a new entertainment complex built for himself, not the people. They’ve created a housing crisis while rewarding the very people profiting from our pain.We Deserve Education — Not IndoctrinationA healthy government educates its citizens — it doesn’t silence or try to indoctrinate them.Trump and Republicans have cut funding, fired career educators, closed essential departments, and tried to strong-arm colleges into pushing a MAGA-driven Christian nationalist ideology. Trump and Republicans fear critical thinking because it exposes corruption, inequality, and lies. Education is the heartbeat of democracy — and they’re trying to stop it.We Deserve Safety — Not a World in ChaosSafety means more than protection from violence — it means stability, peace, and global respect.Yet Trump’s reckless foreign policy has alienated allies, broken promises, and turned the world against us. His decisions have made Americans less safe abroad and at home.Instead of addressing gun violence, climate change, or disaster preparedness, Trump’s administration and Republicans in Congress prioritize propaganda and political revenge. We are less safe because they value power over people. In a recent speech to top commanders, Trump claimed they have a “major part” to play in a so-called “war from within” to control American cities — a chilling statement that echoes the tactics of dictators.That’s why Win Without War is stepping up to remind service members that they have the right and the responsibility to refuse unethical or illegal orders. Trump’s violent brand of authoritarianism and mass deportation is not what they signed up for. Weaponizing the troops against the people they’re sworn to protect won’t make our communities any safer. I love this country enough to champion freedom over fascism every single day. I was standing in front of the Supervisor of Elections office in Broward County, Florida, during the 2018 recount protests. Proud Boys. Oath Keepers. Roger Stone’s goons. They were all there, trying to intimidate election workers and disrupt democracy. I stood face to face with them because I knew what was at stake then — and I know it even more deeply now.I share that moment not for nostalgia, but as a warning and a message of hope.I’ve lived in Florida for over 30 years. I’ve seen how fragile our freedoms become when we stop defending them. We lose when we don’t show up. We lose when we let those in power decide who gets to vote — and who doesn’t.Right now, across America, there are coordinated attempts to silence the voices of millions of our friends, neighbors, and community members — all to protect Donald Trump and his cronies from accountability. Make no mistake: if Democrats and independents win more seats in the House and Senate, there will be a flood of investigations, hearings, and testimony exposing the corruption we already see bubbling to the surface. We will also start to see bipartisanship and bills moving that help Americans face rising costs, healthcare, and housing disparities, and bring back a government that works for liberty and justice for all, not just the wealthy or privileged.From the cover-up of the Epstein files to alleged $50,000 bribes to illegal communications by members of Trump’s inner circle — these are not minor scandals. These are attacks on the principle that no one is above the law. And that’s why the same forces working to hide those crimes are working just as hard to suppress your vote.The New Face of Voter SuppressionTrump and Republicans aren’t focused on solving high grocery costs or the housing crisis — they’re focused on locking in power before voters can hold them accountable. Gerrymandering is their weapon of choice.Take Texas. Under the new map, about 445,000 white residents are enough to elect one congressional representative, but it would take 1.4 million Latino or 2 million Black residents to win an equivalent seat. That means it takes nearly five times as many Black Texans to have the same political power as their white counterparts.That’s not democracy — that’s apartheid in slow motion. It’s shameful. It’s un-American.Now, the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) — under pressure from Trump’s allies at America First Legal, co-founded by extremist Stephen Miller — is considering a proposal that would require every voter to re-prove their citizenship to register. Passports. Real IDs. Military papers.For millions of working Americans, especially those juggling multiple jobs or living paycheck to paycheck, that’s a barrier designed to disenfranchise.Here’s what that looks like in practice:* 21.3 million citizens do not have immediate access to proof of citizenship.* Half of Americans — 146 million people — do not have a passport.* 69 million women lack a birth certificate in their current, married name.This is not “election integrity.” It’s voter suppression by design.Why I’m Heading to the Supreme CourtOn October 15, the Supreme Court will hear Louisiana v. Callais, a case that could gut Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act — the bedrock law protecting voters from racial gerrymandering and discrimination.Louisiana finally adopted a fair congressional map that gives Black voters equal representation. Now, Trump-aligned forces are trying to undo that progress and use this case as a Trojan horse to destroy the Voting Rights Act itself.If Section 2 falls, it won’t just impact Louisiana — it will dismantle one of America’s last remaining pillars of civil rights protection.That’s why I’m heading to Washington, D.C., to stand on those steps — not just for myself, but for everyone who believes in the promise of one person, one vote. Our democracy depends on a straightforward rule: if you can’t win the people’s vote fairly, you don’t deserve power. But Donald Trump and his Republican accomplices know they can’t win on their record, so they’re trying to cheat.They’re attacking the system itself through three major schemes: gerrymandering red states, undermining the Voting Rights Act at the Supreme Court, and weaponizing the Election Assistance Commission to block voters from the ballot box. If they succeed, 2026 would not mark just another election — but the end of free and fair elections as we know them. I urge you to watch these three spaces:Gerrymandering Red StatesFederal law already prohibits noncitizens from voting in federal elections, yet Trump and his cronies are spreading this falsehood to justify a gerrymandering crusade. Trump’s approval is tanking, his policies are failing, and Americans are paying the price — higher costs, worse healthcare, and government chaos. So now they are trying to rewrite the rules: banning mail-in ballots, controlling how states count votes, and installing an election conspiracy theorist inside the Department of Homeland Security.Consider this finding: under the new map in Texas, about 445,000 white residents would be needed to win one congressional seat, but 1.4 million Latino residents and 2 million Black residents would be required to win a comparable seat. In effect, the votes of Black Texans are being discounted — it takes nearly five times as many Black residents to equal the political weight of white residents. That’s shameful and un-American.Republicans aren’t interested in solving problems like high grocery or housing costs — they’re trying to lock in power before voters can hold them accountable.The Supreme Court on Fair RepresentationOn October 15, the Supreme Court will hear Louisiana v. Callais, a case that could gut Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act — the law protecting voters from racial gerrymandering. After Louisiana finally adopted a fair map allowing Black voters equal representation, Trump-aligned forces are seeking to undo that progress and take the Voting Rights Act (VRA) down with it.This is the same Court that upheld the VRA just two years ago. If they reverse themselves now, it will be an open declaration that fairness — and the votes of Black Americans — no longer matter.Friendly reminder: the last time Congress reauthorized the Voting Rights Act, it passed overwhelmingly — 390–33 in the House and 98–0 in the Senate. Its enforcement in states like Louisiana, Alabama, and Georgia proves beyond doubt that these protections are not relics of the past — they remain essential to ensuring fair and equal representation today.The Election Assistance Commission’s New BarriersMeanwhile, Trump’s allies at America First Legal, co-founded by his extremist adviser Stephen Miller, are pushing new voter registration rules that would force millions to re-prove their citizenship — even though they already have. Passports, Real IDs, military papers — documents many working Americans don’t have readily available — would be required to register.This isn’t “election integrity.” It’s voter suppression by design. It would disproportionately harm women, students, rural voters, and low-income Americans — precisely the groups MAGA Republicans want off the rolls.The Choice Before UsTrump and his Republican accomplices are waging war on fairness itself. They want to rig the maps, the courts, and the registration system to steal power they can’t win honestly. But the same spirit that defeated kings and segregationists still lives in us.When the powerful try to silence us, people power rises. Across the country, ordinary Americans are standing up, speaking out, and showing up — in town halls, at rallies, in courtrooms, and at the ballot box. Friends,It’s time we say what everyone knows but too few in power will admit: our system is rigged for billionaires. While working families pay taxes on every paycheck, the ultra-wealthy hoard unimaginable fortunes and pay less—sometimes nothing.How? Because our tax code lets billionaires live off borrowed money, stash their assets in shell companies, and pass them to their heirs without ever paying what they owe. They don’t sell stock—they leverage it. They don’t pay taxes—they delay them forever. They don’t play by the same rules—they write them.Senator Ron Wyden and Representatives Steve Cohen and Don Beyer have a solution: The Billionaires Income Tax Act. It’s simple, fair, and long overdue. The bill according to Americans for Tax Fairness would:* Effects fewer than 1,000 households, all of whom are ultrawealthy.* Raises an estimated $560 billion over 10 years.* Ends the “Buy, Borrow, Die” loophole.* Establishes fairness by taxing billionaires the same way workers are taxed.As Fair Share for America Executive Director Kristen Crowell reminds us, “Working families are taxed on every paycheck. Billionaires shouldn’t get out of paying their fair share just because their wealth is tied up in Wall Street assets.”When the wealthiest billionaires manipulate tax law to protect their power, the consequences ripple through every community. Rising inequality erodes mobility, corrupts politics, and fractures community trust. Economists warn that when taxes on extreme wealth are too low, oligarchies form and entrench themselves. Look around—that’s already happening.💸 What’s at StakeEvery time billionaires dodge taxes, our roads crumble, our schools shrink, and our hospitals close. The bill for their greed gets handed to us—the middle class, the working poor, the small business owner just trying to make payroll.A fair tax system would restore balance:* It would level the playing field and reaffirm that no one is above contributing to America’s success.* It would reduce inequality and crime—because countries with fairer taxes have safer, healthier communities.* It would stabilize the economy, boosting demand as working families spend what they earn.* It would prevent dangerous wealth bubbles, the same kind that led to the Great Depression, the 2008 crash, and what I believe we might be seeing soon.* And it would fuel innovation, because investing in people—education, research, infrastructure—drives progress.Meanwhile, Trump’s America is showing us exactly where concentrated wealth and unchecked power lead:* A gold-plated Oval Office while federal workers face layoffs.* Coal mines reopened while clean energy programs are gutted.* Civil rights lawyers fired for defending fair housing.* Cronies handed TikTok ownership through backroom deals.* And a militarized domestic policy turning our cities into “training grounds.”This is not democracy—it’s plutocracy. Tear gas is a weapon of war. It is so dangerous to human health that its use is banned on the battlefield under international law. Yet in the United States, it continues to be used against our citizens — against people engaged in protest, civil disobedience, and exercising their First Amendment rights. This double standard should outrage us all. If it is too cruel for foreign battlefields, it is undoubtedly too cruel for our city streets.Tear gas does not “keep order.” It inflicts trauma. It burns the eyes, sears the lungs, and can trigger life-threatening reactions in people with asthma or other health conditions. It lingers on clothes and skin, spreading exposure to children and families long after a protest has ended. It turns acts of conscience into health crises. And far too often, it is deployed indiscriminately, blanketing entire neighborhoods in chemical agents without regard for who is caught in its path.Someone who has been exposed to tear gas will usually experience its effects for about 15 to 30 minutes after they have been removed from the source and cleaned off, the CDC says. Those who are exposed to riot control agents at close proximity or in a closed space can experience long-term effects, such as blindness, glaucoma or respiratory failure. CNNThe use of tear gas against protestors is not about safety — it is about control. It is about silencing dissent and intimidating communities into submission. But protest is not a crime. Civil disobedience has always been a driving force for justice in America, from the sit-ins of the civil rights era to today’s movements for racial equity, climate action, and human dignity. To meet these movements with chemical weapons is to betray the very freedoms this country claims to defend.We must demand a nationwide ban on the use of tear gas against our civilians. Protecting public safety means ensuring the right to gather, speak out, and petition for change without fear of chemical attack. A free people cannot be gassed into silence. From the chant of "Hang Mike Pence!" on January 6th and the attack of a violent mob on the U.S. Capitol , to the massacre of Latino shoppers in El Paso (2019), the slaughter of Black neighbors in Buffalo (2022), the antisemitic killings at Pittsburgh's Tree of Life Synagogue (2018), the car attack that murdered Heather Heyer in Charlottesville (2017), the hammer assault on Paul Pelosi (2022), the assassination attempt on Donald Trump (2024), and the most recent killing of Charlie Kirk (2025), extremists believe they can intimidate a nation into silence.These attacks are not random; they are calculated acts meant to terrorize our communities, weaken democracy, and normalize the use of force to settle our political disputes.Listen, if you've been reading me for a while, you know I'm no fan of President Trump or his Republican allies in Congress. But let me be loud and clear: I would never wish harm on any of them.Our differences must be settled at the ballot box, through the law, and through people-powered advocacy. Progress grows from persuasion and action, not from hurting those with different views.Anything less is an attack on something I hold sacred, the very foundation of democracy itself—the freedom to debate, dissent, and resolve our conflicts peacefully.Our founders understood the dangers of mob rule and authoritarian crackdowns. That's why the U.S. Constitution built guardrails to protect the people even before the Bill of Rights.It prohibits bills of attainder so that no government can punish you without a fair trial.It bans ex post facto laws, ensuring you can't be prosecuted for something that wasn't a crime when you acted.It guarantees the right to habeas corpus, meaning no one can be imprisoned without cause.These aren't dusty historical footnotes—they are living protections designed to keep power in the hands of the people and out of the grip of tyrants.Yet today, those safeguards are under siege. Politicians wink at armed intimidation. Conspiracy theories spread like wildfire, encouraging followers to see violence as patriotic. Online platforms amplify hate, while extremists test the limits of our collective resolve. Every time a public official receives a death threat, every time a voter is harassed at the polls, every time a someone is gunned down due to ideology, the message is the same: Be afraid. Stay silent. Let fear decide.We must answer with the opposite message: Be brave. Speak out. Show Up. Fossil Fuels Burn Our Planet—Solar Power Builds Our FutureFriends, today America stands at a crossroads.One path is progress powered by the sun—clean, affordable energy that cuts bills, saves lives, and secures a livable planet.The other is rollback into oil and gas—a path that burns our communities, poisons our air, and locks us into billionaire profits while the planet overheats.The choice isn't abstract. The data is in. People are demanding change.Did you know that online bots and trolls have spread such a false narrative about alternative energy solutions that the United Nations is considering making it a crime to spread misinformation?“It is a major problem,” said Dr Klaus Jensen, of the University of Copenhagen said at an Ipie review. He went on “…how are we going to vote for the right causes and politicians, and how are politicians going to translate the clear evidence into the necessary action?…We have about five years to cut emissions in half and until 2050 to go carbon neutral. Without the right information, we’re not going to get there. So the climate crisis being translated into a climate catastrophe is [not] possible, unless we handle the climate information integrity problem.” (The Guardian)Solar Power: Cheaper, Cleaner, StrongerListen, I don’t have to tell you how ridiculous it is that every year we get more advanced technology—yet every year utility companies keep raising our bills. This week the news featured a woman pleading for relief, saying she unplugs everything at night and runs only her refrigerator, and she still can’t afford her power costs.And don’t even get me started on gas prices and how they jump all over the place.Our leaders should be fighting for cheaper, cleaner, and stronger energy sources—solutions that power our lives without burning up our planet.Great News! Renewable power like solar and wind is now the least expensive and fastest to build in the U.S.—even without subsidies (Lazard).* Price advantage: Big solar farms produce electricity for about 3–4¢ per kWh, and with federal support, it can drop to ≈2¢. Gas plants cost 7–12¢, and their prices jump with global fuel markets.* Falling costs: Building a large solar project today costs 75% less than in 2010, with 2023 installations averaging $1.43 per watt (Berkeley Lab).* Healthier: Between 2019 and 2022, wind and solar avoided $249 billion in air-pollution and climate damages, preventing as many as 1,600 premature deaths in 2022 alone (Science Direct). And the EPA data confirms that cutting fossil fuels slashes hospital visits, asthma attacks, and early deaths (Environmental Protection Network).In plain terms: solar beats gas almost every time—and it keeps getting cheaper.This isn't theory—it's real savings.* A Connecticut school district will cut energy use 23% and will save over $23 million over 20 years (CT Insider).* Pennsylvania schools could save $342 million statewide while powering the equivalent of 187,000 homes yearly (PennEnvironment).The good news is that people across the United States are waking up to the benefits of solar and wind. 34-time convicted felon Donald Trump may have been elected the President of the United States of America, but he is no leader. In fact, almost 80 percent of people who call America home did not vote for Trump (People Power United). He disgraces the United States daily by clawing to power not to serve the people but to serve himself. Trump has been emboldened by the laziest and most corrupt Republicans in Congress, men and women who have abdicated their sworn duty to represent the American people. Instead of working to secure our borders with smart policy, stop drug traffickers and smugglers, and fix labor shortages that cripple industries, Trump and Republicans have weaponized ICE and DHS against our communities—targeting especially Korean and Latino immigrants who have come here seeking freedom, dignity, and opportunity.We witness cruelty as policy, lawlessness disguised as law, and fear wielded as a weapon.A Betrayal at HyundaiOn September 4, 2025, ICE agents stormed Georgia's Hyundai EV battery site in the largest worksite raid in two decades. Four hundred seventy-five workers were detained—over 300 of them South Korean nationals who had come here to build the green energy infrastructure America desperately needs. Images of workers in handcuffs and ankle chains spread like wildfire, sparking outrage in South Korea and within Korean American communities across the United States.The Associated Press reported bluntly: "Atlanta immigration attorney Charles Kuck, who represents four of the detained South Korean nationals, told The Associated Press on Monday that many were doing work that is authorized under the B-1 business visitor visa program. They had planned to be in the U.S. for just a couple of weeks and “never longer than 75 days,” he said." (AP News) South Korea has urged our government to guarantee that these skilled workers can return later, free from re-entry bans. Yet Trump's DHS has doubled down, boasting of the raid as if humiliating allies and terrifying immigrants were a victory (AP News).Even worse, a leaked ICE document revealed that at least one South Korean worker held had a valid visa but was still coerced into 'voluntary departure' (The Guardian). This shatters ICE's narrative that "every single one" of the 475 had broken the law. It was a lie. A targeted smear against workers who came to help build America's future.Injustice at the AirportThe cruelty doesn't stop at construction sites. At San Francisco International Airport, Tae Heung "Will" Kim, a doctoral researcher and lawful U.S. permanent resident, was detained for over a week without due process. He was forced to sleep in chairs, fed scraps of airport food, and denied access to his lawyer.The Daily Beast called it "inhumane," noting that CBP ignored its own 72-hour limit for airport detention and left Kim stranded in legal limbo (Daily Beast). His only offense? A sealed misdemeanor marijuana charge from fourteen years ago, long ago resolved. Yet ICE seized him and now holds him in Arizona, pursuing deportation proceedings against a man whose life and work are firmly rooted in America.The Houston Chronicle underscored the injustice: "Kim is now in ICE custody in Florence, Arizona, facing removal proceedings" (Houston Chronicle). A green card holder, a researcher, a neighbor—and yet treated as disposable because Trump and his enablers see cruelty as political theater.Trump's Agenda: Fear, Not SecurityMake no mistake: these are not the actions of a leader committed to safety or prosperity. These are the acts of an incompetent leader, enabled by a cowardly Congress that would rather appease Trump's base than solve real problems.While fentanyl pours across our borders, while human traffickers prey on the vulnerable, while industries from agriculture to tech scream for workers, Trump and his allies are obsessed with spectacle raids and humiliating immigrants who came here to contribute; they do not seek solutions—they seek scapegoats.In Asian culture, shame carries a weight far beyond the individual. To be handcuffed at a worksite or held without due process in an airport is not only a personal humiliation but a deep wound to one's family and community. The concept of "losing face" means that these cruel spectacles—workers shackled in Georgia, a scholar forced to sleep in airport chairs—echo across oceans and generations. ICE and DHS know this, and their actions weaponize shame as a tool of control. But let us be clear: the shame is not on the Korean or Latino immigrants who came here to build and study. The shame belongs to Trump, to ICE, to DHS, and to the corrupt Republicans who turned cruelty into policy. That shame also falls on us—for over twenty years, too many surrendered our power instead of electing representatives who would champion human rights and dignity, create opportunity for all to thrive, and honor our responsibility by holding them accountable.What Real Reform Looks LikeImmigration reform must be rooted in fairness, dignity, and accountability. That means:* A clear pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, Dreamers, and long-term residents.* Reducing visa backlogs and prioritizing family reunification.* Modernizing work visas to meet labor demands protects immigrant workers from exploitation and wage theft.* Expanding asylum protections and upholding refugee commitments, while banning family separation, indefinite detention, and overcrowded facilities.* Ending racial profiling, warrantless raids, and the militarization of ICE and DHS.* Ban face masks on DHS and ICE agents and require visible identification on all uniforms and vehicles.* Providing immigrants with English classes, workforce training, and civic participation programs so they can thrive in our communities.* Guaranteeing legal representation, streamlined courts, and due process—because justice cannot exist without it.* Additionally, we must commit to registering to vote, casting our ballots, and helping elect leaders committed to protecting liberty and justice for all—not just those with power, privilege, or a specific skin tone.This is what proper border security and national integrity look like: smart, humane, just. Not the cruelty of shackles at Hyundai. Not the inhumanity of detaining a scholar in an airport chair.Power to the PeopleI stand with Korean immigrants. I stand with Dreamers. She was not sneaking across a border, nor committing a crime. She was about to board a domestic flight for work when two Border Patrol officers stopped her, demanded her papers, and ignored the fact that she presented a valid DACA work authorization card.Without a warrant, without probable cause, and without justification, she was taken into custody.This is not law enforcement. This is a state-sanctioned abduction. And if we look away, if we shrug our shoulders, we are accepting a government that treats constitutional protections as optional and immigrant lives as disposable.Xóchitl has dedicated over a decade to defending immigrant communities in Florida, Texas, and beyond. She is not just another case file in the system—she is a leader, a sister, a friend, a fighter for dignity. That is precisely why she is being targeted. DHS and Border Patrol are not simply enforcing immigration law. They are making an example of her, seeking to intimidate Dreamers and immigrant organizers into silence.Her organizing team reports that despite her valid DACA protections, immigration officials have charged her with "unlawful entry." This appears to be an outright fabrication, a chilling indication that the Trump administration is shifting toward criminalizing DACA holders—young people who were promised protection from deportation under the law. As one immigrant rights group warned, "We will not stand by as young people, whose home is here, are ripped away from their lives" (Urban Milwaukee, 2025).Just a friendly reminder: DACA is our nation's promise—a recognition that children should never be punished for their parents' decisions in seeking a better life. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, created by President Barack Obama in June 2012, was meant to protect undocumented immigrants brought here as children—our "Dreamers"—from deportation and to give them the chance to work, study, and live openly in the only country most have ever called home. For more than a decade, DACA has been a lifeline, a shield, and a beacon of hope for hundreds of thousands of young people who contribute deeply to our communities.But let's be clear: we failed them. Congress has refused to pass meaningful immigration reform, leaving Dreamers in a constant state of fear. Now, under Trump's second administration, DACA is under direct attack. There is a very real threat that Dreamers—who have lived here for 13 years under the promise of safety—will be torn from their families and deported to countries they do not know, where they may not even speak the language. To snatch young people from the lives they built here and treat them as criminals is not just cruel—it is a betrayal of America's word and America's values.Detention Is DeadlyXóchitl is being detained at the notorious El Paso Processing Center, a facility with a documented history of abuse and denial of rights. Reports from inside describe a lack of clean drinking water, the absence of medical attention, and visitation restricted to one day a week. Amnesty International has previously highlighted these inhumane conditions. Detention is not just unjust—it is dangerous. Every single day behind bars threatens the health and lives of those held.Trump's second administration is already on track to preside over the deadliest year in immigration detention history. That reality is not an accident; it is the direct result of policies that treat immigrants as enemies of the state rather than human beings.Criminalization as a WeaponThe Department of Homeland Security has failed to produce evidence against Xóchitl, claiming "unlawful entry" while floating inflammatory language designed to smear her character. This follows DHS’s long pattern of criminalizing immigrants and activists, particularly Black and Brown working-class people who already face disproportionate targeting under our biased criminal-legal system.But the truth is clear: Xóchitl is not a criminal. She is being punished for her activism. She has spoken out against ICE and CBP abuses, participated in direct actions, and fought for her community's right to live without fear. That is why she is in detention today. And that is why we cannot look away.This case is about much more than one person. It is about whether our government can abduct someone with legal protections, hold them incommunicado, and without evidence and without the right to due process—without consequence. It is about whether we will defend the rule of law or allow authoritarianism to advance one abduction at a time.Don't Look AwayXóchitl belongs at home, with her community and her loved ones—not in a detention center where her health and rights are at constant risk. Her detention is unlawful. Her treatment is inhumane. Her targeting is political.We demand her immediate release. We demand an end to the terror campaign waged by ICE and CBP. And we demand that this country live up to the rule of law by protecting, not persecuting, those who fight for justice.Because if they can come for Xóchitl, they can come for anyone. Heartbroken, but not surprised. After living in Florida for over 30 years, I'd watched our state slide toward fascism in real time. I had seen the lies, the propaganda, the fear-mongering, and the MAGA cult forming. And I'd also seen a local Democratic Party that meant well but was nowhere near ready to meet the moment or save Florida—or America.Then came President Obama's farewell address. His words jolted me awake:"If you're tired of arguing with strangers on the internet, try to talk with one in real life. If something needs fixing, lace up your shoes and do some organizing. If you're disappointed by your elected officials, grab a clipboard, get some signatures, and run for office yourself. Show up. Dive in. Persevere…”I took that to heart. I had no interest in running for office, but I did want to understand my community—and where our divisions ran deepest. As someone who champions progress, I wanted to know why we couldn't unite to build a community where everyone could thrive.So, I laced up my shoes and headed to the Broward Women's Republican Club.This was just a few months into Trump's presidency. About 30 people attended. Men ran the meeting. The speakers were men. And it quickly became clear: this was not a space designed to empower women.Instead, it was two hours of Trump campaign talking points, lies, and grievances. Not a single real solution for the problems our community faced. It wasn't a forum for ideas but a pipeline for propaganda.That night, I walked away with two truths burned into my mind:* This group was ready to hand over America to fascism without a fight.* I would never be that person.Let me be clear: I'm not suggesting anyone attend a meeting like this. In some places, I'd advise against it. But for me, it was necessary to see with my own eyes who in my county was perfectly fine with racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, antisemitism, homophobia, misogyny, sexism, ageism, ableism, sizeism, transphobia, misogynoir, elitism, and bigotry.I didn't confront anyone. I was a respectful guest. But I left more certain than ever of my path: I will choose freedom over fascism.I will not just complain about problems but work to solve them. I will champion leaders who represent the people and hold them accountable.Because what I learned then and know now-MAGA Republicans don't want to represent America—they want to rule over us. They want better leaders, fairer policies, a safer planet, and a stronger democracy. But wanting progress is not the same as making progress. Words without action are just noise—noise won’t save us from what’s happening.Look at the state of our nation: an out-of-control government led by a 34-time convicted felon who calls himself president but governs like a despot. Donald Trump, propped up by a cult of complicit Republicans, is selling off our rights, our freedoms, our rule of law, and our democracy to the highest bidder. They hand billionaires massive tax breaks while shredding every regulation meant to protect us—because apparently, safety, clean air, and safe water are too much to ask.And yet, even in the face of this reality, too many people who say they want something better take no action. They don’t call their representatives. They don’t email. They don’t show up at town halls or organize with their neighbors. They don’t volunteer for candidates who will fight for them. They sit back, scroll headlines, and tell themselves they care. But that’s not progress. That’s surrender.If you want affordable healthcare, you have to fight for it. If you wish for housing that doesn’t bankrupt families, you have to demand it. If you want an economy where every person—not just the wealthy—can thrive, you must get off the sidelines. Staying silent in your home, workplace, and community doesn’t just fail to create progress—it actively gives power to those trying to destroy it.And make no mistake, that destruction is happening in real time. Project 2025 is not a distant threat; it is already being implemented, step by step, to drag America from a democracy into a theocratic autocracy.“Now, over six months into Trump’s second term, Project 2025’s roadmap for dismantling American government is 47 percent complete.” (The Hill, 2025)The people pushing Project 2025 are dismantling democratic institutions, criminalizing dissent, erasing reproductive and LGBTQIA+ rights, banning books and our history, gutting public healthcare and education, destroying labor and environmental protections, raising taxes on working families, and stripping away civil rights and the separation of church and state.This is what happens when we let our voices go silent. This is what happens when we confuse wanting change with fighting for it. Progress is not passive but the product of relentless organizing, fearless resistance, and unwavering commitment to protect our communities from dangerous, authoritarian power.We don’t have the luxury of sitting this out. We don’t have time to wait for someone else to fix it. The truth is, we are the only ones who can. Every call, every email, every conversation, every rally, every vote—it all matters. We must show up, speak out, and build power. And if we commit to this fight together, we can still turn the tide.Progress for all—not just the wealthy or powerful—is still within our reach. But only if we demand it. Education Is Not a Political Weapon—It's a RightYou may not know this about me, but my activism started as a Pissed Off Mom who was troubled by the rise of fascism in Florida back in 2015. And well, here I am 10 years later—I'm still pissed.Back then, I was watching lawmakers attack the rights of children and families under the guise of "parental rights" and "freedom," when really, it was about control. Control over what kids could read, what teachers could say, which histories were erased, and whose existence was deemed inappropriate. It wasn't just offensive—it was dangerous. And as a mom, I knew I couldn't stay silent.Today, the fight is bigger, and the stakes are higher. Our children's education should serve our children—not political agendas.The current crisis in American education funding represents more than a budget dispute or policy disagreement. It embodies a fundamental choice about the kind of society America will become. Will we protect education as a public good that serves all children? Or will we allow it to become a political weapon used to advance partisan ideologies and punish students, teachers, and communities that dare to speak up?Here's the truth: what's happening in our schools is not normal. Teachers are being fired for refusing to whitewash history. Books are being banned to erase queer kids and Black stories. School boards are being hijacked by dark money groups pushing extremist ideologies. And education funding is being manipulated as leverage—rewarding obedience, punishing defiance.It's taxation without representation. And it's targeting our kids.The moment we're in demands action—from all Americans who believe in educational opportunity, bipartisan governance, and the promise that every child deserves access to excellent education, regardless of:* Their zip code* The color of their skin* The money in their bank account* Their gender or who they love* The pronouns they use* Or the religion they practiceAt People Power United, we speak out every day against:❌ Racism❌ Xenophobia❌ Islamophobia❌ Antisemitism❌ Homophobia❌ Misogyny❌ Sexism❌ Ageism❌ Ableism❌ Sizeism❌ Transphobia❌ Misogynoir❌ Elitism❌ Bigotry of all formsBut we must also do more. We must get better and bolder at protecting our children from predator politicians who are using our schools as laboratories for fascism.There's a crucial distinction between the legitimate political aspects of education—like bipartisan oversight, public accountability, and resource allocation—and the destructive political interference we're seeing today: weaponizing funding, imposing ideological purity tests, and disrupting educational continuity for partisan gain.👉 Protecting schools from politics means defending them from the latter while preserving appropriate bipartisan governance.It also means we must ensure no president or leader can withhold the people's money to silence the people's voices. Public education is not a privilege for the obedient—it is a right for every child.And while discussing rights, let's talk about affirmative action.The fight for equity in education isn't new, but it is under attack. Affirmative action is not about giving someone an unfair advantage. It's about acknowledging that the playing field has never been level—and doing the work to change that.To understand why affirmative action is needed, we must first understand what equity means.Many people throw around the word "equality" like it's enough. But equality means giving everyone the same thing—regardless of their circumstances. That might look fair on the surface, but it fails to recognize the barriers that many children face.I love this new graphic by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation , because it shows this so clearly:* Equality: Everyone gets the same. But what if the same isn't suitable? In the graphic, we see people in wheelchairs or seniors with walkers left behind by an identical solution that simply doesn't work for them.* Equity: Everyone gets what they need, taking into account the barriers, context, and realities they live with.And that's what real justice looks like.And that's what People Power is about.We don't stop at outrage. We organize.We don't wait for permission. We build power.We don't settle for empty slogans. We fight for change.Because People Power means we keep working to ensure equity in our communities—from school funding to curriculum access, from disability rights to LGBTQIA+ inclusion, from student safety to teacher protection. It means we never stop advocating to provide our children, educators, and communities with what they need to thrive in an educational setting.So if you're a parent, a student, a teacher, a neighbor, or someone who believes in justice—know this:📣 You're not alone.📣 We're not powerless.📣 And we're not done yet.Join us.
