Tongue Ties, Breastfeeding & Baby Development: Everything You Need to Know with Michelle Emanuel

Is your baby fussy, clicking while nursing, struggling with tummy time, or just not quite seeming like themselves, and nobody can give you a straight answer about why?In this episode, I sit down with Michelle Emanuel, pediatric occupational therapist, board-certified lactation consultant, and one of the leading experts in tongue tie and oral function, and we take a deep dive into all things tongue-tie.Because tongue tie is not just about nursing pain or a string under the tongue. It is connected to how your baby breathes, how they move their body, why they are gassy and fussy, why they hate tummy time, and if it goes undetected, to speech challenges, crowded teeth, sleep issues, and emotional dysregulation years down the road....like, what?! But it's true!I have been in the birth world for 14 years and I walked away from this conversation looking at things completely differently. In fact I went and looked inside all of my teenagers' mouths when we finished recording and I am not even a little bit embarrassed about it. 😂 I know you are going to love Michelle as much as I do. ❤️ Here are some highlights from the episode:What a tongue tie actually is and why it is so much more than a string under the tongueSigns before your baby is even born that could indicate a tongue tieThe breastfeeding signs most mamas miss that are actually connected to tongue tieWhy a baby who is gaining well and nursing okay is not always in the clearWho should actually be checking for tongue tie and why going straight to a release provider is not always the right first stepWhat a release actually is and what is really happening during the procedureThe difference between a mildly, moderately, and significantly impacted tongue tieHow the tongue functions as a breathing organ and what that means for your baby's airway developmentWhat those little squeaking snorting congested sounds might actually be telling youWhat happens when tongue tie does not get caught early and the signs that show up in older kidsThe one thing Michelle wants every parent to take away and start doing with their baby todayConnect with Michelle: 📱 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tonguetiebabies/▶️ YouTube: Michelle Emanuel: https://www.youtube.com/user/MichelleE110/videos🌐 Website: tummytimemethod.com Don't forget to RATE & FOLLOW the Pregnancy & Birth Made Easy Podcast!Leave a Review! ⭐️ Here's how >> On Apple PodcastsFind “Pregnancy & Birth Made Easy” podcastSelect “Ratings and Reviews”Click the stars!Select “Write a Review” and tell us what was the most amazing, comforting, eye-opening thing that you loved! On SpotifyFind "Pregnancy & Birth Made Easy" podcastClick the 3 dots "..."Select "Rate podcast"Click the stars and write a quick review!FOLLOW "Pregnancy & Birth Made Easy" so you never miss an episode that makes pregnancy & birth feel easier! Here’s how to do it in just 2 seconds:On Apple Podcasts → Tap the “+” Follow button in the top right corner of the show page.On Spotify → Tap the “Follow” button right under the show titlesLet's Connect!Three exercises to help prepare you for your BEST birth: https://www.myessentialbirth.com/3-exercises Join the Course! https://www.myessentialbirth.com/getstartedEmail: [email protected].  Follow @myessentialbirth on INSTAGRAM!

Birth Story: A Birth Center Water Birth & Letting Her Body Lead w/Kyla & Gabe

After giving birth at 28 weeks with her first baby, Kyla knew that this pregnancy was going to look different. She was intentional about every decision: her providers, her preparation, her birth space, and her mindset going in. And when the time came, all of that work showed up in the most beautiful and amazing way. Kyla woke up one morning at 39 weeks with a belly that looked completely different. Contractions started mid-morning and she basically ignored them for most of the day. By 9pm she and Gabe were loading up the car for a two hour drive to their birth center in the middle of the night. She arrived six centimeters dilated and completely effaced. And just before 3am their baby girl was born in a birth tub with so much hair. 🥹I absolutely loved this conversation. Kyla and Gabe are one of those couples who just make you feel good the moment they start talking — he kept her laughing through most of labor, she described every contraction as a blessing, and then there were the gorilla noises during pushing that she is still not fully at peace with. 😂 I just know you are going to love them as much as I do. Here are some highlights from the episode:What a cerclage is, why Kyla needed one, and what is was like to have it removed — which didn't go as plannedThe specific jobs she gave Gabe before labor started, including the one thing she made him promise never to do in the birth room 😆 The best description of the difference between Braxton Hicks and real contractions you will ever hearWhat her contractions felt like during active labor and the affirmations that carried her through...and why they were so different from her first birthThe two hour drive to the birth center in the middle of the night and the hot water bottle tip every mama with a far away birth center needs to hearGabe's honest account of being the birth partner and the moment he realized his presence was doing more than he thoughtKyla and Gabe's best advice for moms and dads, including the one thing Gabe says to every dad he knows who is about to become a father Don't forget to RATE & FOLLOW the Pregnancy & Birth Made Easy Podcast!Leave a Review!

Can You Say No to Your Doctor During Pregnancy?

You leave your prenatal appointment and get in your car. And something just feels off.You are confused. Unsettled. Maybe a little worried about your body or your baby. And you spend the whole drive home trying to figure out what just happened in there and what you are supposed to do about it.In this episode, I am walking you through exactly what to do when something does not feel right with your provider.Whether it is an induction conversation that caught you completely off guard, a big baby warning that sent you straight to Google, or a provider you are just not sure about anymore. And I am being really honest in this one, too, because I have nodded and smiled my way out of appointments that did not feel right, gotten in my car, and completely lost it. I was a doula. I knew better. And I still did it. 😅Oh, and this one is only about 15 minutes. No excuse not to listen before your next appointment. 😊Here are some highlights from the episode:Why most mamas leave their prenatal appointments confused rather than angry, and why that is actually the harder place to beThe most common scenarios that catch pregnant mamas completely off guard — from induction conversations to big baby warnings to ultrasound readings that send you into full panic modeThe questions that get you the information you actually need, without being confrontational or difficultThe most common reaction mamas have in these moments and why nodding and smiling and leaving feeling terrible is something so many of us have doneWhat to do when you ask all the questions and you still disagree, three options that can genuinely solve thingsWhat you are really looking for in a provider is a partnership, how to know if you have it and what to do if you do notWhy one disagreement does not necessarily mean you need a new provider, and when it doesHow setting up the right birth team early means you can walk into labor focused and calm instead of dreading what is comingDon't forget to RATE & FOLLOW the Pregnancy & Birth Made Easy Podcast!Leave a Review!

Before You Say Yes In Labor, Ask These Three Questions

What would you do if you were deep in labor and someone walked in and said it was time to talk about Pitocin, breaking your water, or maybe even a cesarean?I am you through the exact moment that catches most mamas completely off guard in the birth room (myself included, and I share about it), and the three questions that can slow everything down, get you the information you actually need, and help you make decisions from a place of confidence instead of fear. With my first baby, I was told we needed an emergency cesarean. And even in that moment of urgency, I wish I had known what I am sharing in this episode. That there is almost always time to ask questions. That a recommendation is not a requirement. That I had more say than I realized. This is the episode I wish every pregnant mama could hear before she ever walks into the birth room. It is not about being difficult or argumentative, it is about knowing how to gather information and make the best decision for you and your baby no matter what comes up during labor. I promise this will be an episode you will want to save and jot notes down from.Share it with your birth partner and listen together if you can! Here are some highlights from the episode:Why the toughest moment in labor is often not the intensity of the contractions and how to be ready for itThe one thing you can do when a recommendation comes up that immediately gives you more controlThe thoughts that run through every mama's mind when a big decision lands mid-labor and why you are not aloneQuestion #1 to ask your provider the moment a recommendation comes up, and what the answer tells youQuestion #2 that opens up a conversation most providers are not going to have with you unless you askQuestion #3 that turns a blanket recommendation into something specific to you and your situationWhy making decisions from confidence instead of fear has a real physiological effect on your laborHow to make sure your birth partner knows all three questions before you go into laborDon't forget to RATE & FOLLOW the Pregnancy & Birth Made Easy Podcast!Leave a Review!

3 Birth Plan Mistakes That Lead to Regret (And What to Do Instead)

What if the birth plan you worked so hard on… actually set you up for disappointment? Most moms spend hours researching, Googling templates, and checking every box, and still walk away from birth feeling blindsided, unprepared, or like the whole experience just happened to them. And it's not their fault. It's because nobody ever showed them what a birth plan is actually supposed to do, or the mistakes that quietly sabotage even the most prepared moms in the birth room.In this episode, I'm talking about the most common birth plan mistakes I see all the time, and more importantly, exactly what to do instead.Whether you're just starting to think about your birth plan or you already have one and something feels off, this episode is going to change the way you think about it completely. Here are some highlights from the episode:• Why the birth plan templates you find online might be working against you • The real reason birth plans fall flat when labor actually begins • Mistake #1: The mindset shift that changes how you approach your birth plan • Mistake #2: The powerful (and totally underused) way to use your birth plan before you ever step foot in a delivery room • Mistake #3: Why planning only for your ideal birth can leave you feeling lost when things shift • How to use your birth plan to learn something really important about your provider ahead of time • The free Birth Map download that makes the whole process feel so much easier: https://www.myessentialbirth.com/birthplanBirth doesn't have to go perfectly for you to walk away feeling incredible about your experience. What matters most is that you felt informed, understood your options, and had a voice every step of the way. What would you do if your doctor mentioned induction at what felt like a totally routine appointment, and suddenly you were nodding along to something you weren't even sure you agreed to?In this week's episode, I'm walking you through what's really happening when induction comes up, why it feels so hard to push back in the moment, and the three questions that can completely change the conversation with your provider. Whether you're 37 weeks and caught off guard or just want to feel prepared before that moment comes, this episode is for you!I am so passionate about this topic, and I know it's one that so many mamas need to hear. A recommendation is NOT a requirement, and you deserve to feel confident and informed about every decision you make for yourself and your baby. Birth Story: Her Husband Caught the Baby Before His Coffee Was Ready - Veronica's Home Birth

What would you do if your baby came so fast… your husband hadn't even had his morning coffee yet?Veronica planned a home birth... she just didn't plan for it to look like this: her husband catching their daughter in their bedroom, the midwife and doula still an hour away, and a baby who had absolutely no interest in waiting for anyone. And she definitely didn't plan for her placenta to be so rare that a midwife with YEARS of experience had never seen anything like it...... Or for that same placenta to be the very reason her intuition had been telling her the entire birth: do not let anyone touch me.This episode is one of the most complete birth stories I've ever had on the podcast. We are talking about the full journey:✅ The mindset work leading up to her birth✅ The daily prep (including how her toddler held her accountable to her exercises!) ✅ The birth itself (minute by minute, because you need every detail), and what happened after✅ The post-birth matrescence that I think every single person who loves a pregnant woman needs to hearVeronica came into her second pregnancy knowing she wanted something different. She just didn't know how different it would actually get. Here are some highlights from the episode:What happened at Veronica's 20-week appointment that changed her entire birth pathHow she navigated switching providers and ultimately choosing home birthThe daily prep routine she followed throughout her pregnancyThe reframing that took her from fear to fully trusting her bodyWhat happened when labor went from 0 to 100 in the middle of the nightHow her husband stepped up and caught their baby completely unexpectedlyThe rare placenta that left even the most experienced midwives speechlessHer most powerful advice for both moms and birth partners Don't forget to RATE & FOLLOW the Pregnancy & Birth Made Easy Podcast!Leave a Review!

Reclaim Your Birth: Sovereignty, Intuition & the Dad's Surprising Role with Midwife, Catalina Clark

What if the most powerful voice in your birth room isn't the doctor's — it's your husband's?In this episode, I sit down with Catalina Clark, a licensed home birth midwife in Sonoma, California, who has spent 11 years at the crossroads of spiritual midwifery, birth sovereignty, and the sacred side of birth that nobody in the hospital is talking about. From the father's role in the birth room to why Pitocin may be affecting us on a cultural level, we talk about it all — and I think you're going to want to listen to it more than once.I loved every minute of this conversation with Catalina. She has this incredible way of meeting you exactly where you are — whether you're planning a hospital birth, a home birth, or you're not even sure yet — and reminding you that you have far more power than you've been told. This is the kind of episode that makes you think differently, breathe a little deeper, and trust yourself a whole lot more. Here's some highlights from the episode:What spiritual midwifery actually means and why it matters for every birth, in every settingThe 3 pillars of authentic midwifery: authenticity, transparency, and integrityWhy the father's voice may be the most powerful one in the birth room — and exactly what to sayWhat birth sovereignty really means (hint: it has nothing to do with where you give birth)How to balance your intuition with medical advice when both are pulling at youThe surprising history of midwifery and why most of us have never heard of itWhat Pitocin is doing to the brain — and possibly to our culture at largeHow to bring intention, ritual, and sacredness into your birth spaceWhy birth is not designed to be as painful as we've been toldThe one thing Catalina wants every single mama to know: "What if this is not a problem?" Early Brain Development in Pregnancy with Neuroscientist, Dr. Greer Kirshenbaum

"It's our birthright to be deeply connected to our babies and to grow from it." - Dr. KirshenbaumWhat if the most important thing you could do for your baby’s brain… isn’t something you buy, schedule, or optimize — but in the way you nurture & feel? This week, I sit down with Dr. Greer Kirshenbaum — neuroscientist, author of The Nurture Revolution, and former doula — to talk about what modern neuroscience says about pregnancy, birth, infant sleep, and the first three years of life. We talk about how your emotional experiences during pregnancy shape your baby’s brain, why nurture is not “soft” but biologically essential, and what moms really need to know about stress, bonding, sleep training, and early brain development. If you’ve ever worried about doing enough, getting it right, or messing up your baby, you're going to love this discussion and I hope more than anything, it puts your mind at ease. I feel like I cannot say this enough, but YOU are the perfect mother for your baby AND you're doing better than you think you are! Here’s some highlights from the episode: • How pregnancy experiences shape your baby’s brain before birth • The neuroscience behind what doulas do in the birth and postpartum space • Why the first 0–3 years are the most critical window for emotional and mental health • What “nurture” really means from a brain-based perspective • Dr. Kirshenbaum’s views on infant sleep and why she questions sleep training • What’s considered normal for baby sleep around the world • How mothers can regulate stress — for themselves and their babies • Why soothing your baby also soothes your own nervous system • What happens if early nurture wasn’t ideal (and why there’s still so much hope) • The core message of The Nurture Revolution and how it supports modern motherhoodThis episode is a beautiful reminder that you don’t have to be perfect to raise a healthy, secure, thriving baby. I Love My Baby… AND I’m Struggling | Why This Is NORMAL in Motherhood with Dr. Margo Lowy

“I love my baby… AND I’m struggling.” If you’ve ever thought that and immediately felt guilt, shame, or fear that something was wrong—you are not alone. In this deeply moving and much-needed episode, I sit down with Dr. Margo Lowy, author of the powerful new book Maternal Ambivalence, to talk about the full emotional reality of motherhood—starting in pregnancy. This conversation is profoundly healing. It normalizes the feelings so many mothers carry silently: the love, the overwhelm, the resentment, the doubt, and the deep devotion that all exist at the same time.If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, conflicted, judged, isolated, or like you’re “not doing motherhood right,” this episode is 100% for you. It may be one of the most important conversations I’ve shared this year for pregnant moms and mothers everywhere. Here’s what we cover:2:43 – Meet Dr. Margo Lowy & why the emotional truth of motherhood begins in pregnancy—not at birth. 6:35 – What maternal ambivalence really means (and why loving your baby while feeling resentment is completely normal). 14:43 – “Will I get through this?” What to do when motherhood feels overwhelming—and how the right support changes everything. 20:25 – The pressure to be a “perfect mom,” the lie of social media, and why real motherhood was never meant to be lived in isolation. 33:31 – Inside her book Maternal Ambivalence and how understanding your full range of emotions can release shame at every stage. 42:21 – Letting go of the “inner camera” that constantly judges your mothering—and learning to flow with compassion instead.Motherhood was never meant to be neat, quiet, or flawless. It’s messy, interrupted, overwhelming, sacred, and deeply loving—all at once. If you’re pregnant, newly postpartum, or years into motherhood and still questioning yourself, this episode will leave you with a deep breath of relief, maybe a tear or two, and a renewed ability to trust yourself as a mother. Birth Story: Unmedicated Birth Story & Baking Sourdough During Labor with Rachel Weaver

Join the My Essential Birth Course by October 7th and get the exclusive Rise & Birth Pack featuring a calming Birth Affirmations Audio Track and 25 beautifully crafted, printable Birth Affirmation Cards to keep you grounded, confident, and inspired for birth. Learn more: https://www.myessentialbirth.com/getstartedOkay, Mama, this one is tender, faith-filled, and downright empowering. Rachel (mom of two under two in Michigan) brings us into her living room for an unmedicated home birth that was calm, supported, and so her. From a late-pregnancy breech scare to a Spinning Babies breakthrough, from Olive Garden eggplant parm to a labor playlist featuring Maverick City’s “Use To This,” this story sparkles with surrender, community, and a baby girl who absolutely heard her mama’s voice in the womb.Well Cover: 05:40 — Breech at 37 Weeks: Plus a quick framework for handling a late-pregnancy curveball (educate, pray/meditate, assemble team, talk to baby).15:30 — How She Turned Baby Head-Down: A Spinning Babies session,  chiropractic care, belly banding, and talking to her baby. 24:45 — Home Birth Setup That Saved Chaos: Pre-staged tub/hoses, dim lights, hot/warm towels and a husband who went on an ice run. 34:55 — Coping Like Intervals (Active Labor) Treat contractions as 60-second sprints, why low moo-ing works, and when to get in/out of tub.47:20 — When the Water Would Not Break, To A Healthy Baby In Three Pushes: What a bulging bag of waters feels like, getting consent, why AROM sped things up, then three-push delivery and golden hour at home. Before you go, I want to remind you that Rachel didn’t just “luck out” with a calm, empowering home birth. She trained for it. She learned how to advocate when her first birth wasn’t aligned, she knew how to talk with her midwives about breech, and she had practical tools ready for every stage of labor. That kind of confidence doesn’t just happen… It’s built. That’s why I’m always shouting from the rooftops: a birth course changes everything.Birth is one of the most physically intense, emotionally charged, and spiritually transformative events of your life. If you’d prep for a marathon, why wouldn’t you prep for birth? When you join the My Essential Birth Course, you’re literally stacking your tool belt so that when the curveballs come (breech, stalled labor, induction talk, strong emotions, partner nerves), you’ve already practiced your lines, your moves, your mindset. That’s what makes space for the magic: singing your labor song in the tub, laughing between contractions, eating yogurt in your own bed with a brand-new baby on your chest. Birth Story: Unmedicated First-Time Birth During a Georgia Snowstorm

What happens when your due date collides with a snowstorm in Georgia? When I first connected with Abby, I knew her birth story was going to be special, but GAH!! It’s so good and I just know it’s going to inspire every mama listening. As a first-time mom, she navigated early bloody show, a surprise snowstorm, and nearly three days of labor with an amazing, calm, grounded intuition that’s absolutely contagious. From the nausea that knocked her off her feet in the first trimester to the “crunchy-meets-medical” compromise she and her husband made for a hospital birth with a doula, we walked through the nitty gritty of pregnancy and labor, the most common issues every couples deal with for pregnancy & birth, and the incredible birth story she gets to share with all of you. You’ll hear:The physical prep (yes, we’re talking deep squats in the shower and red raspberry leaf tea) and the mental prep that helped her stay strong through every stage. Why breaking her water (something she didn’t plan to do) ended up being the right call. How her husband and doula worked together with a “third-party consent” rule that kept her fully in control. That unforgettable moment she reached down and felt her baby’s head for the first time. Why she believes her unmedicated birth shaped her beautiful postpartum experience and lasting confidence as a mom.Resources Mentioned In This Episode:The Fresh Test For 20% OFF use Coupon Code: MYESSENTIALBIRTH My Essential Birth CourseMy Essential Birth Postpartum CourseMy Essential Birth InstagramThree exercises to help prepare you for your BEST birthTo Leave a Review ⭐️Open Apple PodcastsFind “Pregnancy & Birth Made Easy” podcastSelect “Ratings and Reviews”Click the stars!Select “Write a Review” and tell us what was the most amazing, comforting, eye-opening thing that you loved! Postpartum Healing Without the Pressure to “Bounce Back” with Dr. Jessica London

No one told me that postpartum recovery isn’t just about “getting back to normal.” It’s about rebuilding from the inside out, pelvic floor, core, energy, mindset, and that what you do (and don’t do) in those early days matters more than you think. That’s why I brought Dr. Jessica London, pelvic floor therapist and mama’s best friend in recovery, on the podcast to walk you through exactly what’s happening in your body and how to move forward, without overdoing it. (And she was kind enough to share her Core Recovery Guide with our community!) Postpartum healing is deeply connected to how you move, rest, and nourish yourself right now. Pushing too hard can set you back, but intentional movement, pelvic floor awareness, and smart recovery practices can actually make you stronger than before. Whether you’re 2 days, 2 months, or 2 years postpartum, this episode gives you a roadmap for recovery that lasts.Show Notes Here!Where to Find Jessica: Instagram Website PodcastLinks Mentioned:Episode #275 - Pelvic Floor 101: What Every New Mom Needs to Know with Dr. Jessica LondonThe Core Recovery Guide My Essential Birth CourseMy Essential Birth Postpartum CourseMy Essential Birth Instagram Don't forget to RATE & FOLLOW the Pregnancy & Birth Made Easy Podcast!Leave a Review!
