#3: I Couldn't Escape My Calling to Art | Dan Lee

Dan Lee is a graphic designer and is the owner of Destiny Kid Labs.Dan is one of the internet's (and my personal favorite) graphic designers. Based out of Sheridan Wyoming, Dan grew up in Philadelphia and earned a Master's Degree at Drexel University in Chemical Engineering before making his full-time jump to an art career. In today's conversation, we got to talk about Dan's persistent pull towards art that spanned from his childhood when he wanted to draw instead of play football with his older brother, to the panic attack that ensued when he got offered (and later rejected) an engineering position just before he made the leap into his career as an illustrator.Dan's commitment to his art career, playfully coined "Art Dan's Last Stand," brought him out to Sheridan, Wyoming where he worked with OnlyCo and GoFastDon'tDie as a Chief Creative Officer and designer for both projects before opening Destiny Kid Labs at the end of 2023.Since then, Dan has created thousands of designs that live online and on clients' hard drives - many of which are rooted in introspective thoughts about the world and profound storytelling. To wrap, Dan offered a ton of valuable insights into the battles faced by creatives in today's landscape when it comes to creating in the social media era, avoiding burnout by "retreating to return, not to escape,"  and creating for yourself instead of for an algorithm.I hope you enjoy Dan's story and his wonderful outlook on life. Please gift yourself the treat of checking out his work at the links below, and give him a shout if you enjoyed this episode.Stay Present,- Drew👣p.s. today is my birthday. and the best present I could ask for this year is for you to send this episode (or your favorite Pressed for Presence episode so far) to somebody you care about. *blows out candle*. thanks for being awesome.Follow Dan Lee at:Website: https://www.destinykid.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dandrawnwordsGift Shop: https://dandrawnwords.com/Follow Drew Korf at:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drewkorf/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@drew.korfShow Chapters:00:09 Cowboy Boots01:07 Being Present02:58 Reflecting on the New Year06:13 Journaling12:39 The Journey of an Art Kid17:19 Early Influences and Family Dynamics22:30 Career Choices36:45 Choosing Art Over Engineering41:23 Balancing Art and Business41:48 Support and Networking43:54 Instagram and Early Career45:08 Exploring Different Art Styles48:15 Community and Inspiration56:00 Navigating Trends and Virality01:00:27 Client Relationships and Boundaries01:06:52 Learning in Public01:14:34 Burnout and Self-Care01:24:42 Reflecting on the Journey

#2: The Pursuit of Ultimate Freedom | Drew McManus

Drew McManus is the founder and lead singer of Satsang.Coming fresh off of his Australia tour, we got a chance to drop in and talk about the ups & downs and lessons from the tour, and got to do some reflecting on big life moments that had just happened for each of us.In the episode, Drew hit us with some deep insights on his music career. He shared the moment that landed him a tour with Michael Franti when he was hustling CDs with $30 in his bank account after a show, and he also brought it back to his career today by talking about his creative process and how he embraces his gift for writing. On the spiritual side, we got a chance to do some deep reflections on how we handle adversity and what it's like to sit in difficult times. Drew talked about the importance of having close friends like his best friend Brady, and shared how getting bedridden with a sickness in Australia forced him to sit inside of a hard time instead of chasing it off with motorcycles or an increased workload. This led us down a path of reflecting on some of our recent challenges and discussing some of the goals and outcomes we're looking forward to creating on the other side of the lessons we've learned.I hope you enjoy this wide-ranging conversations with one of my favorite humans on the planet. After spending countless miles together on tour chatting about life, I'm thrilled to finally be able to share one of our conversations with all of you.Thank you for listening.🖤Don't let workin' hard be the only thing you're workin' hard at.Stay Present.- Drew.Follow Drew & Satsang At:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/5q73QGeZGnA3ChVIPxIvyc?si=KAz9xSWtT_mrNZvLJs6MuAApple Music: https://music.apple.com/us/artist/satsang/931207677Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/satsang/?hl=enGet Tickets At: https://www.satsangmovement.com/Follow Pressed for Presence At:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pressedforpresence/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@pressedforpresenceFollow Drew At:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drewkorf/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@drew.korfShow Chapters02:40 The Art of Writing and Inspiration04:41 Balancing Creativity and Productivity07:31 Tour Life and Personal Struggles11:54 Managing Relationships on the Road19:09 Finding Support and Maintaining Mental Health32:57 The Value of Discipline36:20 The Power of Small Habits38:04 Embracing Yoga and Self-Love39:46 The Spiritual Battle and Self-Talk44:59 Redefining Success and Letting Go of Comparison56:40 Touring with Franti and the Impact of Mentorship01:05:19 Bali Sickness and Reflection01:06:33 Emotional Breakthrough01:12:33 Self-Love and Forgiveness01:23:22 Defining Success01:29:30 Balancing Work and Life01:38:21 Concluding Thoughts

Jason Tounsley is the founder of Tounsley Electric Inc. and Co-Founder of Dialed Fitness Company. In today's debut episode, Jason Tounsley joins us on the show to talk about the value of relationships throughout his journey building multiple businesses. After packing up and taking a tour of Montana as a high schooler while his dad looked for a business to buy, Jason graduated high school and found himself working in archery shops and eventually with an electrical contractor. The entrepreneurial call came knocking, and after founding TEI with a young family nearly two decades ago, he has built it into a successful organization that works on everything from national headquarters and military bases to basement remodels.Throughout his journey, Jason talks about the value he found in the ability to spend quality time with himself, and how developing a tight circle of close friends helped him feel fulfilled during different phases of life.Towards the end of the episode, we got to zoom out and talk about what it means to be a good man, how to set an example for your kids as a father, and even got to (finally) talk about the meaning behind the Christmas gift he gave me last year. It's an honor to have Jason kick off the show, and I would like to thank all of you who listen and who have read this far for being here at the earliest stages of the journey!Enjoy the show.👣Drewp.s. the biggest thing you could do to help the show right now is to rate and review the show. ratings are hugely important in the early phases of the show and it would mean a ton! thank you for your support.Follow Jason At:Website: https://tounsleyelectric.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jason_tounsley/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100009091622955Follow Pressed for Presence At:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pressedforpresence/Follow Drew At:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drewkorf/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@drew.korf
