We discuss the meaning of us being created in the Image of God as a simile. Just as Hashem is the Actor of and upon the world so to we are actors in the world. It is God’s will that we should know this fact and embrace it. We then use the plot of A Picture of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde as an analogy to this idea. This was an in-depth analysis of the relationship between rov and chazakah. We explained the Shev Shmattah’s probe on whether a rov can be used in place of chazakah when there are two diametrically opposed testimonies from two sets of witnesses. This was a holiday iyun shiur at the Sha’arei Tefilah Congregation in Lawrence, NY on Labor Day 2025.

Rivka questioned why she is having children if they are going to be evil when she’s isn’t commanded in the mitzvah of propagation. Rabbi Kalish asks why we daven that the evil should be cut off according to the position of the Rabbeinu Chananel. We should daven that they should do teshuva?
