Tony Rabah with Rae Bonney - August 2026
🤗 The Male Hug: Creating a Different Way to Reach Men I was joined by Tony Rabah, Founder and CEO of The Male Hug, for two hours talking about men, health, connection and what it takes to reach men earlier. Tony arrived in Australia from Lebanon when he was four, having spent his earliest years with his grandparents while his parents established a life here in Australia. We talked about his father, what he absorbed about being a man, and a message familiar to many boys of his generation: “You don't show weakness. You take in, but you don't let out.” Years later, Tony found himself doing exactly that as his businesses came under enormous pressure during the GFC, his marriage ended and his father was dying from cancer. He still saw himself as the man who could handle everything, until he couldn't. That part of Tony’s story helps make sense of The Male Hug, his commitment to reaching men early and the work now happening through 1800 MY BUDDY, Talktober, the Buddy program, and its network of volunteers, partners and ambassadors. Our conversation also took us into the men who can be “missing in plain sight”, particularly those whose work has become intertwined with identity and purpose, what happens when that disappears, why behaviour can speak before words do, and whether we are creating the conditions for men to engage rather than simply telling them to talk and seek help. There was plenty of laughter too, with football, family, some questionable cryptic song clues and a misunderstanding before we even went to air that became a rather fitting lesson in the value of responding rather than reacting. Thank you Tony for such an open and generous Sunday morning, for everything you continue to give to The Male Hug and the people it reaches. 🎧 Listen to the full conversation: Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3nwunw1rki76U3MsKe2Hoh?si=de3f05dd086343d2 | YouTube: @raebonney7846 | Podbean: https://rae6z.podbean.com/ What Does It Feel Like, Being You, Today? www.raebonney.au 94.1FM 3WBC #TheMaleHug #MensHealth #MensMentalHealth #Connection #WhatDoesItFeelLikeBeingYouToday #3WBC

Hypothetical Harry with Rae Bonney - June 2026
Hypothetical Harry – the story behind the story. Every month I'm reminded what an extraordinary privilege this humble little show is and that people, often complete strangers, trust me with stories they've often never spoken out loud. For this episode, one man did something incredibly courageous and told his story on global radio. I first met this version of Hypothetical Harry after one of my presentations, when he quietly walked up and said, "Hi... I'm Hypothetical Harry. You just told my story." Choosing to remain anonymous, he joined me to share his experience, not because he wanted people to know who he is, but because he wanted others to know they are not alone. As we spoke, I was reminded yet again that people rarely break because of one catastrophic event. More often, it's the accumulation of ordinary experiences that quietly become too much to carry. There were so many moments that stayed with me... 💬 "I've heard FIFO described as 'Fit In Or F** Off.'"* 💬 "If you have a really crappy cook in that camp and the meals are rubbish, that can really make the two weeks quite hard." 💬 "I had the lovely four-bedroom house... the beach shack at Inverloch... but I had a hole in the soul." 💬 "Do we talk about fatigue? Do we talk about impairment? Do we talk about men's health? You won't find that in your glossy binders." 💬 "Safety is what you're doing when no one's watching." To Harry... thank you for trusting me, for your generosity, and for your willingness to share your story so openly. I have no doubt there will be people listening who hear parts of themselves in your experience, just as you once heard yourself in Hypothetical Harry. David Maywald on Masculinity, Policy & the Stories Shaping Boys and Men
I recently sat down live in the 3WBC Studios with David Maywald - governance specialist, board director and author of The Relentless War on Masculinity - for a robust and, at times, uncomfortable conversation. David flew in from Canberra to join me in person, and we covered a lot of ground: fatherhood, policy, education, family law, suicide prevention and the cultural narratives shaping how we see men and boys. He spoke about what moved him to write his book, particularly the shifting political and cultural landscape overseas, and his concern that many boys and men feel unheard in public debate. “There’s a wave coming back toward balance. People want to be able to speak without being shut down.” We explored male suicide, the need for more targeted approaches in prevention, and whether current strategies are genuinely meeting men where they are. “If we can’t decide our compassion without knowing the sex of the person involved, that tells us something.” There were moments where we agreed and others where we challenged each other and the conversation stretched both of us, which is part of the beauty of interviews like this ... we can agree to disagree. One line that stayed with me was this:💙 “Small wins matter - cultural change doesn’t happen in a day.” Whether you agree with David’s framing or not, the issues we discussed, suicide, family breakdown, boys’ education, institutional design are real and complex. Conversations like this are not about taking sides. They’re about widening the lens.If you’re working in policy, education, leadership, community health or simply raising sons and daughters, this episode invites reflection. Grant Fuller with Rae Bonney - November 2025
Grant Fuller on men, mental health & the cost of unsafe worksites Last week, on What Does It Feel Like, Being You Today?, I sat down with Grant Fuller, Health, Safety & Wellbeing Principal at Alchimie and co-founder of Wellness in Infrastructure, for awe inspiring conversation - perfectly timed in the lead-up to International Men’s Day. Grant spoke candidly about growing up in Montana, losing his father at age five, and learning early that men and feelings, weren’t a great relationship. 💙 “I didn’t see the men around me show emotion. I want my boys to be able to.” We traced the pathway that shaped him — being raised in a small Montana town marked by addiction and loss, finding freedom and purpose on fishing boats of Alaska, and eventually building a life in Australia. Grant also spoke candidly about what it cost him to stand up to unsafe cultures and bullying on a major project — a long period of union harassment that left a deeper mark than he realised at the time. 💙 “Two years of harassment… being filmed, edited, posted online… told ‘you’re a liar’ for hours. I thought I was fine. Then I realised: I wasn’t.” Grant described the moment he understood the emotional impact: 💙 “I was told, ‘take the emotion out of it’, and I said, ‘I don’t know how.’” That experience fed directly into the beginnings of Wellness in Infrastructure. Grant talked about Professor Luke Downey’s 2018 research, which found burnout at almost 50% in construction and depression and stress four to five times higher than the general population. 💙 “People were hurting. Enough wasn’t being done. We wanted to change those statistics.” One line stayed with me, well after the show: 💙 “This isn’t about being nice for the sake of it. The way we treat people at work can push them over the edge or pull them back from it.” For anyone who works in infrastructure, construction, or mostly male environments — this episode is a powerful reflection on what real prevention looks like: clarity, safety, leadership, and environments that don’t break people. Grant’s honesty, insight and lived experience bring a rare depth to a conversation workplaces (and beyond) desperately need. Michael Wilson with Rae Bonney - October 2025
What Does It Feel Like, Being Michael Wilson? The Human Side Of Men's Health Research The world loves a good stat 📈. We quote them, post them, argue about them, and use “the research” to support our opinions. But how often do we stop to ask, where does the data come from? Who are the people behind the research? What drives someone to commit years of their life to a PhD? .... and who supports them along the way? Back in October 2023, I was joined by Michael Wilson, Research Fellow in Men's Mental Health at Orygen and one of the new generation of men’s health researchers, helping shape what “evidence” really means in the lives of men. His work explores why some men face higher suicide risk after relationship breakdowns, especially how emotion dysregulation and loneliness can collide in the months post-separation. We unpacked the why behind Michael’s PhD - the purpose, persistence and curiosity that fuels his work, and how good support is essential in making it all possible. Then… enter the room (by phone), Michael’s super-supportive supervisor, none other than Dr. Zac Seidler - global men’s health icon, Movember leader, and champion of the next generation of researchers, shared what it takes to nurture rigorous, human-centred research and why great supervision can influence the trajectory of a PhD (and a researcher). Dr Robin Hadley with Rae Bonney September 2025
Involuntary Male Childlessness with Dr Robin Hadley. On Sunday 21 September, I aired a very special conversation with Dr Robin Hadley - researcher, advocate, poet, and all-round diamond 💎. Timed perfectly with World Childless Week, Robin and I explored the often overlooked reality of involuntary childlessness in men - the grief, the stigma, and the silence. Some of Robin’s words that stayed with me: 💔“It’s grief without a death ... a disenfranchised grief because there’s no ritual, no structure, no recognition.” 🔢“If you’re not counted, you don’t count. And if the people who do the counting won’t count you, then you’re excluded twice over.” 🐥“I thought I was the only one who felt so broody, who felt like there was a cloud over them. Then I discovered there were many men like me.” We also spoke about: ✨ The ache of Father’s Day for men who longed to be dads ✨ The policy blind-spots that leave childless men invisible in planning and services ✨ Aging without children and who advocates for you when family isn’t there ✨ Male vulnerability - why it needs to be understood on its own terms ✨ Robin’s very personal health update about how a routine check led to an early prostate cancer diagnosis This is an interview I absolutely loved. Robin’s ability to weave his own lived experience with groundbreaking research is rare and powerful. I have enormous respect for his work and I’m grateful he shared it with me .. and now, all of you ☺️. Last week I was joined live in the studio’s of 3wbc, by the unstoppable Anna Feringa - one of Australia’s most no-nonsense voices in workplace mental health, psychological safety and wellbeing. Hilarious & Hard-Hitting Highlights: ⭐Anna’s racy take on psychosocial health (“it’s a mess, but a good mess”) ⭐An entertaining kitchen appliance showdown: Thermomix vs. sandwich press (who knew you could cook salmon in one?) ⭐The importance of meeting people where they are—because “just reach out” often isn’t enough ⭐Why “we’re like a family here” is a massive workplace red flag 🚩 ⭐Stories from Dubbo to boardrooms, bullies to board papers—and what it really takes to create safe and caring workplaces ⭐Plus, a little detour into perms, chili jam, and why laughter belongs in mental health conversations Anna doesn’t just cut through the BS, she brings heart, humour, and hard truths that every leader and workplace needs to hear. ❤️ Come for the laughs, stay for the goosebumps. 🪿 What does it feel like, being you, today? www.raebonney.au #MensHealth #MentalHealth #WorkplaceWellbeing #PsychologicalSafety #Kindness #Care #WorkplaceMentalHealth #Thermomix #CreativeCooking #PopFilters #LiveRadio

Sean Menere with Rae Bonney - June 2025
✈️FROM AIRSPACE TO HEADSPACE🧠 What It Felt Like Being Sean Menere on 94.1FM 3WBC Sean Menere’s story is anything but linear. He recently joined me on 94.1FM 3WBC to explore the turbulence and triumph of a life that’s shifted from air traffic control to counselling - with stops in Antarctica, fatherhood, and emotional upheaval along the way. What has emerged is an articulate, caring man, guided by curiosity and courage. Through his counselling practice, Solid Foundations and amazing initiative, The Good Uncle Project, Sean has created spaces where others feel safe to be seen, understood, and supported. We covered the challenges of new parenthood, starting a business under pressure, and that quiet resilience that carries us through chaos. He spoke candidly of childhood bullying, insecure attachment, and being a victim of intimate partner abuse - topics rarely voiced by men. His stories of Antarctica, the birth of his daughter Evelyn, and the passing of a dear friend painted a rich picture of connection, grief, and showing up when it matters most. There was levity, too, in Paul Kelly songs, cryptic music requests, and tell of a wrist injury that turned into a personal best push-up record. Sean’s passage, from Virgin Blue to the wilds of Antarctica and beyond can remind us that life rarely moves in a straight line. It’s a powerful reflection on the human capacity to adapt, take responsibility, and make the most of what we have, rather than being held back by what we don’t. Thank you, Sean, for showing us what’s possible. ❤️ Come for the laughs and stay for the goosebumps 🪿. #MensHealth #MentalHealth #DomesticViolence #MensMentalHealth #SuicidePrevention #Fathers #Parenting #Adptability #AirTrafficControl #Bullying #Courage #Curiosity

Jonas Christensen with Rae Bonney - May 2025
The month of May, birthed a powerfully human episode of "What Does It Feel Like, Being You Today?" on 94.1FM 3WBC, that dived deep into one of the most fascinating and fast-moving intersections in modern life: artificial intelligence and mental health. Joining me was the ever-insightful Jonas Christensen — unconventional business leader, Corinium Global Intelligence Top 100 Innovator, host of Leaders of Analytics, and co-author of Demystifying AI for the Enterprise. More importantly, Jonas brought his heart to the mic, sharing a deeply personal story of postnatal depression experienced alongside his wife, and how they are co-authoring a book, Losing Our Sanity, to help others navigate similar terrain. A few standout moments: “We always invent something new to do. But in the moment of change, fear is real.” — Jonas, reflecting on tech disruption and why human adaptability is our greatest asset. “We needed someone we could hang out with and have a beer with after work — your personality just fit our team.” — Jonas, on how he landed his first job in data despite not knowing how to code. A powerful reminder that being human still matters in the age of AI. “You won’t be replaced by AI anytime soon. But your job might be if you don’t learn to use it well.” — On the power (and responsibility) of understanding new tools. And perhaps most moving ....... “We're never just one emotion. There are always layers to who we are at any point in time.” — Jonas, describing what it felt like being him that day, carrying both joy and grief. We explored how AI can support wellbeing, from apps that help track emotions or sobriety, to algorithms that offer companionship. But also, the risks: addiction, surveillance, and emotional disconnection. Ultimately, it comes down to choice, responsibility, and design. Jonas and I also talked parenting, school systems, workplace cultures, and what it means to feel "torn" between worlds, both emotionally and geographically. Rose Wintle with Rae Bonney - April 2025
Easter Sunday 2025, I was joined on the show by a guest I’ve known for every single second of her 30 years — and, if we’re getting technical, even before that, when she was giving me heartburn, and heart attacks with in the lead up to her grand entry into the world. All said, this amazing woman is my first true love. The most beautiful princess in all the land and, quite frankly, one of the scariest people I’ve ever met. Fierce doesn’t even begin to cover it — her razor-sharp intuition, unshakeable standards, and piercing blue eyed gaze have been the driving force behind some of my biggest life decisions… largely because I was terrified of disappointing her. But beyond all that, she’s kind, caring, strong, hilarious, endlessly thoughtful, and loves nothing more than creating magical moments for anyone in her vision. And the 20th of April was special. Not just because we were on the radio together, but because we’ll be doing “us” in an environment we’d never shared before. We dove straight into the magical world of motherhood — across generations. Talking through what it was like raising Rose in the 90s and 2000s, and how she’s now raising my granddaughter, Evelyn, in a world that looks very different. From parenting philosophies and old-school values to the things she’s reinventing, holding onto, or letting go of — we explored it all. There we laughed, cried, cracked a Kath ‘n Kim reference and played some Kings of Leon in the breaks. She’s one of my favourite people in the world and mother to the most talented, gifted, and beautiful granddaughter that ever walked the earth.

Rae Bonney Special with Steve Carey - February 2025
The Tables Turned! 🎙️ I was the Guest, with Steve Carey Hosting! On a very warm Sunday in February, at 94.1FM 3WBC, for the first time ever, I handed over the reins of my show and settled in as a guest of longtime friend and magnificent media man, Steve Carey. He took the lead and asked me “what does it feel like being you, today?” which provided foundation for a deep dive into my personal and professional journey … a story I’ve not told in its entirety and it evoked all kinds of emotions 😃 🤔 😐 😑 🫨 . Accustomed to being the “interviewer”, it was certainly a shift – but Steve, former CHANNEL 7 TV News Director, crafted a surprise package of questions and delicately peeled back my layers, as he expertly guided conversations around my early life, challenges with mental health, and how my career evolved to focus on men’s health and mental health. We also tackled some of the more gnarly topics like suicide, self-harm, addiction, and violence – backed up with information about where find support. Mark Brooks with Rae Bonney - January 2025
It was a long-awaited honour to speak with UK men’s health advocate Mark Brooks OBE, where we unpacked the often-dismissed issue of domestic and family violence against men and boys. As a sector leader in male health, education, inclusion, and domestic abuse, Mark brings over 25 years of experience and thought leadership to this important topic. He has played a pivotal role in championing the rights of male victims through his work with organisations like the The ManKind Initiative in the UK, which continues to raise awareness and provide critical support to men facing domestic abuse. Mark's recent achievements include leading the campaign for a Men's Health Strategy for England, publishing influential reports on male suicide and boys' education, and raising the profile of male victims of domestic abuse. He also leads the successful INTERNATIONAL MEN'S DAY (UK) LTD. platform, which engaged over 800 organisations in 2024. Historically, the gender-specific needs of male victims have been overlooked in both research and service provision, making this discussion essential. Through our discussion, Mark and I aimed at sparking a broader conversation, bringing men and boys into the dialogue, exploring their involvement in ending domestic violence, the unique challenges men face in harmful relationships, as well as barriers to effective support. For listeners, I want exercise some self disclosure and reflection - also a heartfelt apology to Mark. Great friend of mine and the show, Mike Hagan, who also expertly produces my podcast, bought to my attention in his incredibly kind, thoughtful, and generous manner—that during the conversation, I became a bit of an interrupter, cutter offerer and over talker of Mark. Mike, in his usual gracious way, acknowledged my enthusiasm and intent as noble, but still, I want to own it, disclose it and learn from it as I listen through the show. Anyway, in any case I hope you enjoy our conversation ❤️

Steve Carey with Rae Bonney - December 2024
Wrapping up 2024 was such a delight to be back on air at 94.1FM 3WBC with the legendary Steve Carey - one of Australia’s most seasoned voices in TV News & Public Affairs. With over 35 years of brilliance across Seven Network, Nine, and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Steve is the ultimate life hack—proving that age is no barrier to success, fulfillment, and discovering joy in all the right places. In this show, Steve and I dived headfirst into the complexities of today’s fragmented media landscape. In a world where no single news program can satisfy all audiences, Steve unpacked his remarkable journey and shone a light on the critical role trusted journalists play in navigating our ever evolving world. From encouraging us to engage with diverse news sources to exploring the vital importance of journalistic integrity, in an era of ever increasing misinformation, Steve’s insights were inspiring and thought-provoking. Hear what it feels like, being Steve Carey, as we explored the evolving responsibilities of journalism and the power it holds to shape perspectives and empower choices.

Jake Lambert with Rae Bonney - Movember 24
It was a definite highlight of my International Men's Day/Movember season, hanging out with Movember's Jake Lambert at 94.1FM 3WBC to discuss the unique challenges and opportunities in men’s health, in honor of men and boys around the world. Jake was incredibly open, sharing deeply personal and touching moments—from his journey as a new dad to a heartfelt story about his own father. His reflections highlighted the power of vulnerability and connection in breaking down stigmas around men’s health. We also explored the incredible impact of Movember-supported programs, like The Man Cave School Programs, which are equipping young men with the tools to navigate life with confidence and compassion. Paying respect to the many grassroots men and boy's health organisations around the world, like The Father Hood (Jeremy Macvean, Andrew McUtchen, Luke Benedictus) highlighted an entire sector working tirelessly to promote a better understanding of the challenges faced by men and boys globally. Mike Hagan with Rae Bonney October 2024
Mike Hagan is a Distant Conspirator who has become a very close collaborator of mine over the past few years 😀. In a mash up of our respective fields, mental health, workplace wellbeing, men’s health, safety and compliance, we shared all the how, what, why, when and where we’re both currently at. On one of the biggest topics going round, Mike and I sketched out what organisational responsibility in addressing workplace psychosocial hazards and risks can look like, and described simple yet effective strategies anyone can use to create safe and supportive environments. My experience in men’s health, mental health and workplace well-being, combined with Mike’s expertise in all things safety and compliance, provided valuable insights on how companies can proactively manage these risks and support their workforce’s overall health. We also touched on our respective roles at October's Workplace Health & Safety Show in Sydney, which featured the latest developments in workplace safety, new technologies, and best practices. Dave Bamber with Rae Bonney - June 2024
To wrap Men's Health Week 2024, and inspire conversations beyond, I went to air at 94.1FM 3WBC with a very special and spontaneous radio show that showcased a story that had not yet been told. Two days before, at a construction site Men's Health Week toolbox talk, I asked the room of around 130 men to raise their hand if they'd had any experience with paternal post natal depression (the kind that happens to dads). One guy did. I could not find him after the event, but received this note later in the day. "Thanks so much for coming today Rae. I’m the one who put my hand up about post natal depression. Later in the morning a guy who I’d never spoken to before came up to me and asked about my experience. He then told me all about his own experience and we chatted about it for 5mins then went back to work. I hope he felt as good as I did afterwards. Thanks for giving me that chance to put my hand, you are making a difference." And there's an example of the power of men supporting each other 💙 . A few hours later, after a very humbling phone call "Dave" generously and courageously agreed to be interviewed live on the show and tell his story for the very first time. This opportunity was not one to be missed, hearing what it feels like, being Dave and lots more about Men's Health Week. What does it feel like, being you, today? Radio Interview - 94.7FM The Pulse with Leah Veenhuizen - Men’s Health Week - June 2024
I recently caught up with fellow community radio presenter Leah Veenhuizen on her fabulous show "Just a thought" at 94.7 the Pulse. Leah asked early on about my reasons for advocating so enthusiastically for men and boys ... I surprised myself with an unguarded response that I tend not to often reveal 💛 . We went on to challenge some of the damaging myths and misunderstandings about men and masculinity - also their alarming absence from global health policy. We packed a lot into 27 minutes and I am so grateful to Leah Veenhuizen for her talent and expertise in bringing this conversation to air. Ashley Fils-Aime with Rae Bonney - May 2024
Earlier this year, #2 son and I attended one of the many amazing Melbourne International Comedy Festival events. We were not nearly well enough prepared to have our sides split and possibly our pants wet, from the night’s headliner, Ashley Fils-Aime. 🤣 Supporting a mystery line-up of some of the best festival comedians, Ashley did not fail to keep the laughter level at “11” throughout the entire evening. Looking a little closer at Ashley's trajectory, though – a Haiti-born comedy success, raised in Miami, Florida and performing on stage since the age of 18 – I started scratching the surface of a story that’s simply gagging to be told. My radar on racial/ethnic disparities in men's health was also activated during Ashley’s performance, through his tongue-in-cheek references to personal experiences of being a black male. Ashely very generously agreed to join me on Sunday, 19 May to hear what it feels like, being .. Ashley Fils-Aime. 💙. What does it feel like, being you, today? “A true vocation calls us out beyond ourselves; breaks our heart in the process and then humbles, simplifies and enlightens us about the hidden, core nature of the work that enticed us in the first place.” David Whyte – Poet This quote came to mind, as I waded through my research, in preparation for my interview with Australian actress, writer and producer, Maria Angelico. It so beautifully illustrates her unwavering commitment to persistently crafting and perfecting a true calling. This is reinforced with her unmistakable presence on our television screens, for more than 20 years - from pumped up pigtails in Chris Lilley's gob-smacking creations, through to the current comedic gal drama, "Strife" where she stars alongside the likes of Asher Keddie, Matt Day, Tina Bursill, Emma Lung, Rhys Mitchell and so many more talented Aussies. Late last year, I had the pleasure of experiencing many facets of Maria, on a real live film set. Aside from enormous talent and professionalism, her abundant kindness, care, humility and generosity, clearly makes all the spaces around her a place of joy and wellbeing. Dr Paul Conti with Rae Bonney - February 2024
Late last year I tuned into Andrew Huberman's Huberman Lab Podcast for one of the best 12 hours and 40 minutes of learning I’ve experienced in a long time. Dr. Paul M. Conti, a Stanford and Harvard trained psychiatrist has empowered the lives of many people around the globe, including Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian and Tommy Hilfiger! Supported by legendary Huberman hosting, Paul presented the human condition, through sense making dialogue and mind blowing models, that had me listening to the 4 part series over and over again. In the spirit of true gratitude, I connected with Dr. Paul, thanking him for providing ways of showing my own clients a clearer perspective of self and also cheekily requested a radio interview. Astounded by his generosity and quietly @#$%$#% myself for perhaps getting in over my head, Paul did not hesitate in accepting and we connected Portland, Oregon with Melbourne, Australia in early February 2024. Mike Rolls with Rae Bonney
Mike Rolls is a survivor of one of the deadliest diseases on the planet - meningococcal. One day in 2001, this sport-mad teenager headed off on a football trip and then overnight, was fighting for his life, with only a five percent chance of living. When he regained consciousness, Mike had lost his right leg, half his left foot, two fingers and part of his nose, along with extensive internal injuries. From here, Mike went on to tackle recovery with what the world now knows as an inherent spirit of resilience and steadfast tenacity. This characteristic has coloured in so many other spaces that has made Mike an icon of admiration and inspiration for what he is, rather than the turn of events that challenged him. A proud husband and father, fitness enthusiast, Australian golf champion and passionate advocate, Mike uses his voice to engage all communities, whilst supporting charities Limbs 4 Life and Interplast Australia & New Zealand. And that’s just the short of it. What does it feel like, being you, today? Felix Blackler with Rae Bonney - September 2023
According to evolutionary psychology, human beings are motivated to engage in behaviours that maximize their genetic fitness. One could also say that every decision we make is guided by some form of motivation. In more recent times, research tells us that boredom, stress, burnout, feeling overwhelmed, and a lack of clear goals can lead to a lack of motivation. Felix Blackler, however, became so motivated by motivation that he bought the only scientific tool that measures motivation, to Australia. Founder of leading HR consultancy Xperience, Felix launched the The Reiss Motivation Profile® almost three years ago has a lot to say about its positive impact on people packed places here. He joined me on air for a couple of hours, describing what inspired him into the space of motivation and of course, what it feels like, being him … plus so much more.

Mark Harrison with Rae Bonney - July 2023
9 MEN DIE FROM PROSTATE CANCER EVERY DAY, here in Australia ....... and there are more than 200,000 living with the diagnosis. CEO of Australian Prostate Cancer Research Centre, Mark Harrison has been leading their charge for the past 9 years and knows, only too well, the challenges in gaining support and recognition for this oftentimes, preventable, MALE EXCLUSIVE disease. The Australian Prostate Centre was established in 2012, initially as a research facility, dedicated to advancing research into treatment and a cure for prostate cancer. In 2014, they opened the doors of the APC clinic and have since treated over 18,000 men, without any Australian Government funding - relying on a small number of dedicated philanthropic supporters and partners to drive the cause. It’s undeniable that the APC’s work is significant and could contribute to so many more lifesaving outcomes, with proper support, validation, investment and recognition from our country’s leaders. Mark’s joined me at the 3WBC studios, to paint a clearer picture around the myths, facts and possibilities relating to prostate cancer here in Australia and around the world. He also spoke about the upcoming activities relating to RULE Prostate Cancer, which was established by the Australian Prostate Centre and the E.J. Whitten Foundation. They joined forces back in 2021 to protect more Aussie Legends in the fight against prostate cancer. https://www.ruleprostatecancer.org.au/ https://www.australianprostatecentre.org.au/ #prostatecancer #menshealth #funding #policy #malesuicide #governmentfunding #mensmentalhealth #erectiledysfunction #incontinence #masculinity Kate Hatton Travis Strong

Olly Bridge with Rae Bonney - June 2023
Almost 8 years ago, I heard about a guy named Olly Bridge, who was quite the trailblazer in workplace health and wellbeing … groundbreaking stuff, at the time. It’s taken us both, this long to finally meet, and there appears no better moment than to celebrate the last day of Men’s Health Week, live on air, at 3WBC. Olly has dedicated his life to helping individuals and teams recognise their full potential - achieving extraordinary results. With an enviable career working with elite athletes, from Formula One and Olympic Gymnastics, Olly harnessed the power of Sustainable Peak Performance and honed it into a dynamic methodology that extends far beyond the sports arena. Since then, Olly’s led high-performing teams in prestigious organisations like BMW & Medibank, gaining a deep understanding of the delicate balance between performance and wellbeing. Josh Reid Jones with Rae Bonney - April 2023
Those who know my work, will be familiar with the sentiment "Be kind, be caring and don't be a @*!#$ - it could be lifesaving" 😍. In April 2023 I was feeling pretty jazzed, speaking with Josh Reid Jones live, on air at 94.1FM 3WBC. He's a truly remarkable human who's dedicated a life to helping people into just being nice 🥰. A social impact dynamo, Josh's early life was marked by poverty, violence, and challenging circumstances which, in time, inspired his creation of the The Just Be Nice Project, which, very simply, aims to change the way people help people 👩❤️👨. Josh didn't hold back telling about social impact, positive change, equality of opportunity and of course, what if feels like, being Josh Reid Jones. Lisa Sharpe with Rae Bonney March 2023
Lisa Sharpe began stand-up comedy, only 5 years ago, at the tender age of 48. She'd finally created a platform for her voice and storytelling gift that she says has been influenced by her late and larger than life, Dad. 💕 She has since, become well known around Australia, for her hilarious anecdotal comedic presence, supporting well-knowns and selling out many events as the headline performer. She has been described as honest, gritty, humorous, warm, charming and ever surprising. During the show, Lisa trundled us through an impressive career trajectory, paying humble homage to her many influences, including her dear dad and Aussie Icon, Judith Lucy – leaving no doubt that her later in life foray into the world of comedy was a path she was destined for. Lisa made us feel like we were on the north coast of NSW as she described growing up in the sleepy town of Ballina (which is also home to the Big Prawn) and everything that led her to the industry of “funny business”. Laughter, some tears and a few risqué moments, I had an absolute ball, laughing along with Lisa and hearing what it feels like …. being her. #comedy #careerchange #womenincomedy #standupcomedy #femalecomedians #mentalhealth #womenshealth

Dr Peter Larkins with Rae Bonney February 2023
He claims to make the best cheeseburgers in Albert Park, and have a massive boy crush on edgy pop singer, Pink - but this guy is iconic for many other reasons 😊 Known fondly, by many, as ‘The Doc’, Dr Peter Larkins is a Melbourne legend when it comes to sports medicine and his many roles in the media. Born and bred in Geelong, young boy Larkins was a school athletic superstar who never cooled his heels and went on to represent Australia in the steeplechase at the 1976 Summer Olympics, 1982 Commonwealth Games and the 1981 World Cup. In his spare time, Doctor Larkins managed to collect a few degrees - an honours in medical science as well as Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery – later travelling the world to study sports medicine and then set up a private practice in the 1980s. Many things led to numerous others, and it was back in 1996 when fellow legend, Eddie McGuire rang to say “I’m doing the footy next year on Triple M and we want you to be part of it”. Peter remained a big personality in footy media until 2018. Still keen to get behind a mic, he joined me live at 94.1FM 3WBC to talk about what it feels like being Doctor Peter Larkins … 2 hours was not nearly enough time to pay homage to this amazing man. Ben & Laura Robinson with Rae Bonney January 2023
I love encouraging people to think about what they “can” do - rather than what they "can't", and on Sunday 15 January, 2023, I spoke with a couple of the best, when it comes to saying yes! 🤩 Mr. and Mrs. Robinson have been turning up at Ability Works Australia for almost 40 collective years, leading with their trademark examples of incredible work ethic, commitment and dedication to achieving everything they set their minds to. I’ve had the honor of working with Ben and Laura Robinson for more than a year, and can say without hesitation, this dynamic duo has shown me so much about their personal brand of pride, determination, humility, love, care and gratitude. ❤️❤️ They joined me live at 94.1FM 3WBC to talk about what it feels like being Ben and Laura, not to mention, marriage, mental health, inclusive design, AFL, travel - also, their experience of how the world manages and responds to people living with a disability. Michael Ray with Rae Bonney - December 2022
Michael Ray was thrust into solo dad life at the tender age of 51, and (ironically) the experience opened his eyes to outdated gender expectations which ignited an unbridled passion to advocate for equality and change that includes everyone. His commitment to parental fairness is fierce, as it is inspiring, and he challenges social narratives to serve our positively evolving communities. During this show, I helped Michael unpack ideas around misinformed gender roles, when it comes to raising kids, and how societal value/support of ALL parents/carers is so important. In his very spare time, Michael penned an award winning and widely recognised book “Who Knew?” It celebrates modern day dads, where he openly discusses issues of mental health and ideas for raising our next generation – in light of the wonderful diversity of contemporary families. Ken Lyons with Rae Bonney - November 2022
November 20th was INTERNATIONAL MEN'S DAY 😀 - and what better way to celebrate than honour one of our most talented and magnificent male mortals, Ken Lyons. Ken joined me at the 94.1FM 3WBC studios, a place he's known so well for many, many years - special because it's where we met. In true Ken style, he told tales of his incredible 98 years and what it's felt like, being a man, for almost an entire century 💯💯💯 I'm incredibly fortunate to be loved by Ken, and many times, take for granted, his wisdom, enthusiasm and boundless energy. So, it was all hats off during this most special show, cherishing a man who truly has, and continues to make the world a better and more interesting place. Mike Hagan with Rae Bonney - September 2022
Earlier this year, I witnessed Mike Hagan speaking about workplace burnout and the need for a systematic approach, at Melbourne’s Managing Burnout and Fatigue in the Workplace Conference. (Me) a fellow speaker and ever curious audience participant, wondered what the General Manager for HR, CC & HS&E of leading global supplier of technology and services at Bosch Australia would have to say about this matter. So ..... if Mike's extensive role description wasn’t mouthful enough, what he had to say (in a very unexpectedly broad, northern English accent) was a head full of awesome and inspiration for everyone in the audience. Later that day, I had my own turn share about burnout, relating to the state of mental health in male dominated workplaces - and that’s when Mike and I truly connected, cemented, collaborated and conspired to conjure up initiatives that could really bring about positive action and change for everyone. Deciding to kick off with a stint on the old radio show, my research quickly uncovered that Mike’s talents, kindness, care and respect for the human condition, extend well beyond his day job (spoiler alert: Rock Star). He joined me, live in the studio to share what it feels like, being Mike Hagan … and so much more. Remember, it really is OK to not be OK!! Ben Shewry, Kyle Staddon & Ella Shewry with Rae Bonney August 2022
Ben Shewry was 5 years old when he decided to be a chef - which is pretty cool for a farming kid, growing up in New Zealand, during the early 80’s. Fast forward to 2022, where Ben has lead Australia’s number 1 restaurant, Attica, since 2015 to be celebrated at the top 50 in the whole wide world. He joined me, alongside life/business partner, Kylie Staddon and daughter Ella, to talk about what it feels like, being them. Rae Bonney Tasmania Special with Mark Brown July 2022
Back on July 17 2022, I colluded with co-host and dear friend, Mark Brown for his live radio debut. Mark helped unpack my recent “Lap of Tasmania” adventure, chatting with special Taswegian guests, Bec Mace and James Rowlands who I'd met along the way. Bec gave us an amazing insight into convict characters who created the Strahan railway with bare hands and full hearts. James Rowlands kicked off his segment with a poetic dedication to yours truly, followed by hilarious stories including one about a close encounter with an elephant. Rae Bonney with Alison Downie - May 2022
It was exactly 4 years ago, today that I had the pleasure of speaking alongside AFL Women's Champion Al Downie at the Sandringham Zebras President's Ladies Day and Beyond Blue Round. Alison captivated the room, as she described her experience as an elite sports person, coupled with managing some significant mental health challenges. Back then, Alison wore number 30 for Carlton AFLW, playing in the first-ever women's match - Carlton v Collingwood - in front of a packed house on Friday 3rd February 2017. Going on to notch up 31 games for Carlton, the Blues opted not to renew Alison’s contract for 2022, but Collingwood AFLW were on the hunt for a gun ruck and this superstar was not ready to hang up her boots. We went to air on Sunday, 15 May, to hear Alison’s remarkable story of achievement and demonstration of true grit and resilience at https://www.3wbc.org.au/ Remember, it really is OK to not be OK!! #mentalhealth #aflw #womeninsport #womenshealth

Rae Bonney with Liz Chase April 2022
After starting her career as a user experience researcher in “San Francisco’s vibrant tech start-up community alongside some of the industry’s brightest visionaries”, my friend, Liz Chase moved home to Melbourne to commence legal practice. This, she said, “was the fulfilment of a lifelong dream marred with frustration and dismay at the amount of busy work undertaken by junior lawyers and paralegals which could easily be automated with better outcomes in terms of accuracy, efficiency and resource allocation”. After holding various roles as a legal professional (lawyer, partner and business owner, having started her own firm, Chase Legal), it dawned on her that the practice of law no longer got her out of bed in the morning. What did, however, was “the business of law and the opportunity to transform it”. So Liz, being Liz got out of her bed and co-founded a design thinking consultancy Law DesignED and now couples this with being a lawyer and mentor at Leo Cussen Centre for Law – spending her days developing the next generation of legal professionals and imbibing design thinking into their modes of practice. Design thinking (or human-centred design), she explained, is a “problem-solving methodology originally used by web designers and software developers to make digital environments more intuitive, useful and engaging”.

Rae Bonney with George Donikian - March 2022
A few weeks ago, after many reschedules, I finally lured the great and gorgeous George Donikian into the 3WBC studios, for some much needed on-air merriment. Minutes into the show, I met George, head on, challenging him on the popular and largely uniformed narrative around men and domestic violence. That done we, quickly moved to yacking about the early days of SBS, where it is now and Georges feelings about this. There were very fond mentions of mutual buddies Steve Carey and Paul Guerra where we acknowledged their roles - providing valuable voices of reason within the media, especially around the pandemic. I particularly enjoyed our address to Diana Ashley, who played an important part in a TV revolution that provided access to news in Auslan for the Deaf Community. She was the first Deaf interpreter, who sat alongside George (originally at Channel 0 which became SBS) and translated the 6.27pm news into Auslan for deaf viewers. If you missed the show, or want to listen again, click on the link and hear George regal us with many colourful and comical stories that so aptly illustrate his incredibly accomplished and impressive career. I’m was so jazzed to be back at the 94.1FM 3WBC studios in November, with a personality who I've crowned “The Pandemic Princess of Podcasts”. Tiffanee Cook. Her Roll With The Punches 🎧🎙️ production has not only entertained thousands, bought stories untold, songs unsung and tears unshed, but is now being aired on the telly at Channel 31. Rae Bonney with Craig Turton - 100 WORDS mate to mate - June 2021
I had a quick chat with Craig Turton - co-founder of 100 WORDS Mate to Mate on the last day of Men's Health Week 2021. He told a show stopping story about a roomful of blokes at a charity night raising money and awareness for men’s mental health. About how one brave man stood up in front of this roomful of strangers and told them that he had tried to take his own life. And about his mates, who were stunned into silence as they all sat next to him, listening to his story for the very first time. Hear Craig talk about the vision for 100 WORDS mate to mate and purpose for blokes to start really talking to each other, in an effort to stop losing so many men in our communities to suicide.

A day in the life of a truckie - Rae Bonney with Chris Smith - May 2021l
In the lead up to Men’s Health Week, 2021, we’ll hear a lot of statistics, outcomes, intentions and ideas around things men should be doing to improve their health and wellbeing. I decided to kick off with something a little more up close and personal – actually spending a day in the life of a man - truckie, @Chris Smith of Redpath Carriers. He generously invited me to jockey and chat whilst hauling 24,960 kg's of hard Australian wheat, up Victoria’s picturesque @Western Highway in his 1999 Kenworth104 Areodyne, to the historic, gold mining town of Ballarat. Starting at the @Port of Melbourne we yacked about how happiness, far outweighs money, physical exercise and diet on the road are important – plus and including 17 minutes of waffle that contains some beautiful gems. Hopefully this little piece will inspire people to wonder about what’s on a truck, where it’s going, who it’s serving and why … not to mention the person behind the wheel. Unscripted and rough as guts, please share this simple, but ever so special adventure with Chris and I. #trucking #truckinglife #truckingindustry #lovewhatwedo #happinessmatters #ballarat #australiangrown #menshealth #mensmentalhealth #menshealthweek #nutritionmatters #ontheroad #kenworthtrucks Kenworth Truck Co.
