What a comfort to every believer that the Lord Jesus Christ prays for us on an individual level. He sees your need, and He prays for you!

"There is a God!" This is King Nebuchadnezzar's first formal introduction to Yahweh – 'God of gods and Lord of kings' who 'reveals mysteries.' Have you met him? Do you know him? He certainly knows you. We will either be greatly comforted by this truth or completely terrified by it. Because in the end every earthly endeavour to make a name for ourselves will come to nothing and only the kingdom of God will remain. As he reveals himself to us in his Son, Jesus Christ, let's not reject the stone that all other kingdom builders have rejected. For it is only through faith in him that we are welcomed and adopted into his kingdom family forever.

We come this week to what has been described as "the most obscure and difficult in the whole of the Pauline writings" (Leon Morris 1984). However, despite the many gaps and guesses in the thinking around this passage in 2 Thessalonians 2, it is in fact meant to be a word of great encouragement and hope to the church in Thessalonica, and therefore, to us. As daunting as the prospect of the revealing of 'the man of lawlessness' may be, he is brought to nothing by the appearing of Christ. Paul writes this passage, not to shake the church up but to settle it down; not to spook them into a panic but to comfort and stir their hearts in patient faith, steadfast hope and enduring love.

After spending four months in our 'Lessons From Job' series, I wonder what we have learned. I do hope and pray we have learned something of God– his sovereignty, his justice, his love. What might we now say to a friend or loved one going through a difficult time? What comfort and counsel might we offer to those in deep anguish? I wonder what Job's three friends would tell their families when they return home after their time with Job? And especially after this final chapter in the story? They spoke wrongly of God, and yet still the Lord provides for them a path of restoration through sacrifice and intercession, just as he has for us in his Son. Even in this final 'lesson' there is much to learn.

Comfort has quickly turned into competition between Job and his three friends. They are all determined to stick to their guns which, whilst admirable, only serves to intensify their animosity for each other. In the midst of all this Job maintains his innocence and displays brief but bold glimpses of his only remaining hope. He has longed for a mediator (9:33). He now claims to have a 'witness' in heaven who will testify for him (16:19) and then declares, "I know that my Redeemer lives" (19:25). This side of the cross we may know more than Job, but only because we share the same hope and Redeemer, who has revealed himself to us in his Son, Jesus Christ. In this hope we are saved!

The statewide death toll from the recent flooding in central Texas has risen to 135. President Trump said he's directing Attorney General Pam Bondi to release relevant Grand Jury testimony concerning anything related to Jeffrey Epstein. Billionaire Home Depot co-founder Ken Langone has had a complete turn-around regarding President Trump after first blasting the president and his sweeping tariffs. During a CNBC appearance, Langone said he was wrong in calling out the president back in April. Other stories dealt with Joe Biden's health and Secret Service security failures during the Donald Trump, Butler, Pennsylvania, rally. Listeners wrapped up the broadcast with their questions and comments.

How does one respond to Job's deep heart cry that we heard last week from Chapter 3? Breaking a weeklong silence, Eliphaz ventures to be the first of Job's three friends to speak. And like so much false teaching, much of what he says is true, but it's not the whole truth. He declares God's sovereignty and justice but not his covenant grace and faithfulness, and he therefore fails to comfort Job. May the God of all grace, who has called us to his eternal glory, restore, confirm, strengthen and establish us in his covenant faithfulness in Jesus Christ.

This week we will be introduced to Job's three loyal friends who come to show their sympathy and to comfort Job. They are stunned when they see their brother. He is unrecognisable to them– such is his anguish and affliction. After weeping and wailing loudly and expressing their own grief they fall into a week-long silence with their friend. Perhaps like us sometimes, they don't know what to say. Or perhaps, just being there with Job is enough to express their love and to comfort him with their quiet company. May the Lord teach us how to 'suffer well' in faith, and to know how to love those around us who are experiencing their own anguish and grief.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our afflictions..." What a glorious name is here given to our God! He is called "the Father of mercies" and "the God of all comfort." Not only does this reveal the tender character of God, but it opens a window into His gracious dealings with His redeemed people. He is not a distant observer of our pain, nor a cold deity unmoved by our trials. He is a Father--and not only of justice, but of mercies. He is the God--not merely of power and glory, but of all comfort. God's comfort is not reserved for mild inconveniences or minor hurts. He comforts us in ALL our afflictions. There is no sorrow too deep, no trial too complex, no burden too heavy for His consoling grace. When His children pass through the furnace, it is not to destroy them, but to refine them. And in the heat of that affliction, He draws near to pour in the oil of gladness, to whisper peace, to uphold with His righteous right hand. This comfort does not come merely in the form of changed circumstances, but through the very presence of God Himself. He comforts by giving more of Himself. His Word revives the fainting soul, His Spirit applies truth with power, His providence gently overrules for our good. Let us then bless our God--not only when the sun shines, but when the storm breaks. Let us trace every ray of comfort back to its Source: the heart of the Father of mercies. And in every sorrow, let us remember that we are not abandoned--we are being drawn closer to the God who has pledged Himself to comfort us in all our affliction. God is too good to be u

"Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His love endures forever." Psalm 107:1 The goodness of God is not a passive trait—it is His benevolence in motion; His kindness expressed in countless ways. Every breath we take, every ray of light, every moment of peace--is a token of His abundant goodness. He opens His hand and satisfies the desires of every living thing—not because we deserve it, but because He is good. God is not merely good in what He does—He is good in who He is. His very essence is the fountainhead of all goodness. From His nature flows every blessing, both temporal and eternal. The world may be marred by sin, but the beauty of His goodness still shines through creation and providence, sustaining and upholding all things. Nowhere is His goodness more clearly seen than at the cross. There, the Just One bore the penalty for the unjust. There, wrath and mercy converged. "For God so loved the world that He gave..."—gave what? Not merely gifts or comforts, but His beloved Son! This is the supreme revelation of divine goodness: the holy God making a way for sinners to be reconciled to Himself at infinite cost. Even in affliction, God is good. He ordains trials not to harm, but to purify—to wean us from the world, and draw us nearer to Himself. "Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey Your word!" Psalm 119:67. His goodness is not diminished by our suffering; rather, it often shines brightest in the dark. How this should humble us! We have earned judgment, yet He grants mercy. We bring nothing to the table, yet He fills our lives with good things. Let us not respond to such kindness with forgetfulness or complaint, but with awe, gratitude, and worshi

Prayer is truly a privilege to the believer. Being able to communicate with God at all times is such a blessing, and we often take it for granted. This week we will commence a preaching series through Paul's letter to the Philippian believers. Often described as Paul's 'letter of joy', we will hear how this same joy can be ours in Christ as it is grounded in the sure hope that "he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion". Whilst we are all a 'work in progress', what joy and comfort it is to know that our heavenly Father never leaves a job undone.

Whilst questions abound concerning the matter of the 'unforgivable sin' the context should guide us in our conclusions. First of all, consider what grace there is that 'every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven'! Only then are we ready to consider the sin which will not be forgiven – rejecting the work and grace of God and attributing it to the evil one. Some may fear the very notion of an 'unforgivable sin', when in fact Jesus' teaching here should bring great comfort – by the Spirit of God he is able to bind the strong man and deliver us from kingdom of darkness. The very kingdom of God has come upon us indeed!

When the sinner dies it is not tasting of death in its true sense, for what does he lose? He loses wife, and children, and friends; he loses all his dainty bits and his sweet draughts. Where now his viol and his lute? Where now the merry dance and the joyful company? For him no more the pleasant landscape nor the gliding stream. For him no more the light of the sun by day, nor the light of moon and stars by night. He has lost at one stroke every comfort and every hope. But then the loss, as far as death is concerned, is but a loss of earthly things, the loss of temporal and temporary comforts, and he might put up with that. It is wretched enough to lose these, but let your imagination follow me, faint as is my power to describe the everlasting and infinite loss of the man who is found impenitent at the last great judgment day. What loses he then? The harps of heaven and the songs thereof; the joys of God's presence and the light thereof; the jasper sea and the gates of pearl. He has lost peace and immortality, and the crown of life; nay, he has lost all hope, and when a man has lost that, what remaineth to him? His spirit sinks with a terrible depression, more frightful than maniac ever knew in his wildest moods of grief. His soul sinks never to recover itself into the depths of dark despair, where not a ray of hope can ever reach him. Lost to God; lost to heaven; lost to time.

James says, "You are justified by works, and not by faith alone." Paul says, "You are saved...apart from works." How do we reconcile Galatians 2 with James 2? Do we have a contradiction? The Protestants cry "Faith Alone". The Catholics scream, "Faith Plus Works." And, the Atheists argue, "Contradiction!" Who is right?

We return this week to David and his predicament on the battlefield with King Achish and the Philistine army. He is delivered from that sticky situation, only to find himself in a greater dilemma when he returns home. It's there, fearful and greatly distressed, that we read, "But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God." What comfort and strength it is to know the Lord is our God– to know he is with us and to know his promises to us in times of fear and great distress.
