RedTalk 7: Our Close Personal Friend, The Batman (with The Black Casebook)

Friend-of-the-show Walt Casebook stops by to talk about a wide variety of things. Among them, our mutual friend and his business partner, the Batman. We discuss the nature of mythology in American culture, the meta realities of creating stories in limited mediums, the sort of research and mindset that goes into finding political leads on urgent questions, rehabilitating our capacities for literature after overdosing on analytical writing, and much much much more. This episode is wholly free!Find The Black Casebook on:Apple PodcastsSpotifyXitter This is a public episode. To hear more, visit redtechnocrat.substack.comPremium Subs Get A Full 2 Hour Episode!Free Subscribers Get Our 30 minute chat on what we're readingStarting back in the 70s and 80s, we talk about the trials and tribulations that a now coherent comic book industry faces and the crash courses of popularity and readership that bring the Big 2 into the places they are now. Cole drops the Paul-pill, I ramble too much, we compare the two companies essentially identical, but bizarrely differing in result, business models.NOTE: We do not discuss the MCU, if you want that, might I suggest Marvelous! Or, the Death of Cinema Here! After we talk business, we continue our conversation into discussing what we’re reading, and what we think about this or that in the general state of affairs of comics. This part will release as the free preview. My latest article:Twilight Over the Army of God: A Study of Ansar Allah’s Yemen

RedTalk 5: Socialism with Comicbook Characteristics with Cole Netscape Pt. 1

In the first of a two (or maybe three?) episode series, Cole Netscape helps us dig into the origins of the comic book history and trace its development through the decades. Starting with their humble origins in the comic book strip, we discuss how the material incentives, political circumstances, and the machinations of the Capitalists have brought the medium on a painful journey that embodies some of the worst instincts and tendencies of the developing American economy. We jump around a bit toward the end, but its a largely chronological discussion that was a lot of fun. We also get into the heart of the matter of why Comic Books are for the most part, bad, and also, why sometimes, they are wonderful.Find Marvelous! RedTalk 3: Talking about the Student Movement with Austin(@PissVortex) Pt. 1

In a discussion with slightly better audio, Austin and I discuss our shared experiences as participants in the Pro-Palestine campus student movement. Speaking from what we saw personally and what we saw across the larger protest wave, we discuss the lack of practical successes and the double-edged sword of normalization of the Palestine issue. We also discuss the faltering economic situation, the failure of a protest movement to coalesce for Iran, the Red Guards, and many other general digressions in a wide ranging discussion that was lots of fun. The conversation is a little old as it has taken me forever to upload, but I think remains relevant as the country compounds crises. Part 2 will arrive next week for paid subscribers!Austin’s Podcast:https://gorillaradio.show/Xitter:https://x.com/pissvortex This is a public episode. RedTalk 1: Vidya on Market pt. 1 with Mo (@LegoKingo)

Mo from the excellent “Close Up Long Shot” Substack joins us for our innagural episode. We have a wide ranging and fun chat about video games, their nature as both a commercial product and form of artistic creation, and the contradictions therein. We also talk about the phenomenon of a Gamer, and whether or not they actually want art or if they want a fun product. This is the first of a two part discussion, the second of which will be available next week as a premium episode. I am not sure how regularly I will be making these episodes, but I hope for them to be semi-regular in whatever form they might take.Apologies for the terrible audio, I will be able to fix that hopefully by the next recording session (or maybe the one after that) This is a public episode.
