    025 | June Book Club

In this episode of Refining Our Focus in Motherhood, we continue our discussion through The Life-Giving Home with the June chapter, Times of Delight. This chapter reminded us that play is not something extra we add once all the work is done. Delight, laughter, creativity, and wonder are part of a full and beautiful life. As mothers, we can become so focused on responsibility that we forget to notice the simple joys right in front of us. We talk about the value of boredom, the beauty of childlike wonder, the way play supports learning, and how delight can change the atmosphere of a home. We also discuss how children naturally notice puddles, bugs, clouds, sticks, rocks, and all the little things we often overlook. This episode is an invitation to slow down, notice more, and make room for simple moments of joy with our children. Main Points Discussed 1. Delight is not extra As mothers, we often think delight can wait until the house is clean, the schedule is calm, and everything else is done. But joy and play are not extras. They are part of a life-giving home. 2. Children are natural teachers of wonder Children notice the things we often miss. They are amazed by puddles, rocks, bugs, clouds, sticks, and tiny discoveries. Their curiosity reminds us to see the world with softer, more open eyes. 3. Boredom can lead to creativity We discussed the idea that children need space to be bored so they can begin creating their own fun. Instead of rushing to entertain them, we can give them time to discover, imagine, and play. A helpful phrase mentioned in the episode was: “I trust that you’ll find something to do.” 4. Play is connected to learning When children enjoy what they are learning, it becomes meaningful to them. Play allows children to practice courage, goodness, creativity, problem-solving, and connection in a natural way. 5. Mothers need play too Play is not only for children. As adults, we still need delight. It may look like dancing in the kitchen, gardening, painting, laughing with our children, going outside barefoot, or noticing something beautiful together. 6. Delight helps us notice God Childlike belief and wonder can help us see God’s hand in ordinary moments. Sometimes delight is one of the ways He refreshes our hearts, our families, and our homes. Listener Challenge This week, choose one small moment each day to step into wonder or play with your children. It could be: Watching the clouds and looking for shapes Going outside barefoot Noticing birds, bugs, flowers, or trees Taking a family walk Joining a game instead of only watching Turning on music while cleaning the kitchen Laughing over something small Letting your child show you what delights them At the end of the day, ask yourself: What delighted me today? What delighted my children? Did I make room for joy, or only responsibility? Sometimes the most life-giving things are not the grand things, but the joyful little things. Maybe play is not escaping life. Maybe it helps us remember what life is for.   Links Mentioned in This Episode: The Life-Giving Home by Sally and Sarah Clarkson This is the book we are reading through in our monthly book club discussion. The June chapter is Times of Delight: Creating a Value for Play.  Homeschooling: You’re Doing It Right Just by Doing It by Ginny Yurich We mentioned this book during our conversation about boredom, imagination, screen time, and giving children space to create their own play.

024 | Creating a Home Our Kids Want to Return To Part 3: Remember the Long View

In this final episode of our three-part series, Creating a Home Our Kids Want to Return To, we are stepping back and remembering the long view of motherhood. So often, motherhood can feel like the moment right in front of us. The spilled drink. The hard attitude. The sibling conflict. The child who needs us again when we already feel stretched thin. But motherhood is not only about getting through today. We are not just raising children. We are raising future adults, future husbands and wives, future mothers and fathers, and future families. When we remember that, it can change the way we respond. Control may feel easier in the moment. It may even stop a behavior quickly. But connection, steadiness, and emotional safety are what form something lasting in the hearts of our children. In this episode, we talk about how the long view helps us slow down, invite the Spirit, and see our children not only as they are today, but as they are becoming. We also reflect on how our example in motherhood, marriage, repentance, regulation, and grace can bless generations beyond what we can see right now. This is slow work. It is holy work. And it matters. In This Episode, We Talk About: Why we are not just raising kids, but future adults How remembering who our children are becoming can change the way we respond Why connection matters more than control How our example can shape future marriages and families The importance of regulating ourselves before reacting How scripture, prayer, and the Spirit help us see the long view Why small, unseen moments in motherhood matter more than we often realize How this three-part series fits together: connection, emotional safety, and the long view A Gentle Invitation for This Week Choose one moment each day to pause before you respond. Take a breath. Soften your shoulders. Remember the long view. Then ask yourself: “What does this moment teach my child about love, safety, and belonging?” It does not have to be perfect. It only has to be practiced. Resources Mentioned For the Children’s Sake by Susan Schaeffer Macaulay Charlotte Mason’s reminder that children are persons President Henry B. Eyring’s story about remembering the future man inside the child Closing Encouragement You are cultivating something beautiful, even on the days that feel messy or ordinary. You are shaping hearts. You are building future homes. You are creating a place your children will want to return to. And that is legacy. That is truthfulness. That is motherhood refined.

    023 | Everyday Moms Making a Difference: Home Still Matters | w/Beth

As we continue our homeschool-themed series, I wanted to take the conversation in a slightly different direction. What does it look like to care deeply about our children’s hearts, faith, character, and education when our children go to school outside the home? In this episode, I welcome my friend Beth to talk about the important role parents still play, no matter what schooling option their family chooses. We talk about staying connected during busy school seasons, helping our children process what they experience, creating a home that feels peaceful and safe, and remembering that education is not only about the subjects taught in school, but also about what our children are learning to love, value, and carry with them. This episode is for the mom who wants to be intentional but feels stretched thin. It is a gentle reminder that we do not have to do everything. We still have influence. We still matter. And the small moments we create at home can help shape our children’s hearts.

In this month’s Refining Our Focus Book Club, we continue our journey through The Life-Giving Home as we discuss the May chapter: Days to Commemorate. Together, we reflect on the importance of remembering and how intentionally marking meaningful moments can shape the hearts of our children and the culture of our homes. We also talk about how the values, stories, and experiences we pass on become lasting gifts our children will carry long after childhood. If you’ve ever wanted a more meaningful home life without adding pressure or perfection, this conversation is a gentle reminder that small intentional moments matter deeply. 020 | Creating a Home Our Kids Want to Return To Part 2: Emotional Safety Begins with Us

In Part 2 of our Creating a Home Our Kids Want to Return To series, we’re diving deeper into what truly shapes the atmosphere of our homes—emotional safety. While connection is essential, it’s not complete without a sense of emotional steadiness and security. In this episode of Refining Our Focus in Motherhood, we talk about how emotional safety begins with us as mothers—through self-regulation, intentional responses, and the willingness to repair when we fall short. If you’ve ever reacted in frustration and wished you could take it back… If you’ve felt overstimulated and unsure how to reset… If you long for a home that feels calm, safe, and secure for your children… This episode offers practical tools and gentle encouragement to help you pause, respond instead of react, and create an environment where your children feel safe not just physically—but emotionally. Because the truth is, the tone of our home is often set by the state of our hearts. You don’t have to be perfect to create a peaceful home—just willing to grow, repair, and return.   Show Notes: Genesis 3

017 | You Don't Have to Homeschool to Shape Hearts

What if your children go to public school? Do conversations about heart-centered learning, atmosphere, and the power of home still apply to you? In this heartfelt episode, Nikki shares why the deeper work of motherhood has never only been about homeschooling. Drawing from her own years as a public school mom, along with powerful experiences caring for children in classroom, nanny, and daycare settings, she reflects on what many children are quietly longing for in today’s fast-paced world. Together, we explore why home still matters deeply, how children are shaped by the everyday atmosphere they return to, and how mothers can create a place of peace, connection, and restoration no matter their schooling choice. If you’ve ever wondered whether these conversations were meant for you, this episode is a reminder that they are. 016 | April Book Club

Welcome back to Refining Our Focus in Motherhood and our Life-Giving Home Book Club series. In this episode, we continue our month-by-month journey through The Life-Giving Home as we reflect on the April chapter, A Heritage of Faith. Together, we explore what it means to build a legacy of faith within our homes. It is not through perfection or grand gestures, but through the quiet, consistent rhythms of everyday life. Faith is not only something we teach; it is something we live. It is woven into the atmosphere of our homes through simple, meaningful practices like prayer, scripture study, music, celebration, and remembrance. These small, faithful choices shape the spiritual memory of our children and point them toward God over time. In this conversation, we share what stood out to us in this chapter and reflect on how these ideas can take shape in real homes, in the middle of full and sometimes messy days. In this episode, we talk about: What it means to create a “heritage of faith” in everyday life How spiritual rhythms are formed through small, consistent choices Ways to intentionally engage with God’s story as a family The beauty of ordinary moments lived in God’s presence We also invite you into a simple reflection this week: What is the rhythm of our faith as a family? Take time to consider what is already present and what you feel invited to cultivate moving forward. If you’ve ever wondered how to more intentionally weave faith into your home without adding pressure or perfection, this episode offers gentle encouragement and practical perspective. Remember, a heritage of faith isn’t built all at once, it’s formed slowly, through a life lived with God.

015 | Creating a Home Our Kids Want to Return To Part 1: Building Connection First

What if the most important part of your home isn’t what it looks like? What if it is more about how it feels? In this episode, we’re talking about creating a home our kids truly want to return to. Not a perfect home. Not a quiet or always-put-together home. But one where our children feel safe, known, and deeply loved. One thing we have learned as moms is that home is emotional before it’s physical. Our kids experience home through connection first. It is through how we respond, how we listen, and whether they feel seen and welcomed in our presence. We share honestly about seasons of busyness, distraction, and reacting instead of responding. We also share the powerful shift that happens when we slow down and choose connection over performance. Because more than anything, our children need an emotionally available mom, not a constantly productive one. In this conversation, we explore: Why connection matters more than perfection The shift from productivity to fruitfulness in motherhood How small, intentional moments build trust The importance of repair and humility when we get it wrong What it looks like to be present in the middle of full, busy days We also leave you with a simple, meaningful reflection to help you take one small step toward deeper connection with your children this week. If you’ve ever wondered if you’re doing enough or longed to feel more present with your kids, well then, this episode is for you. Because at the end of the day, connection is what creates a home. What does it look like to honor where you came from while building something new for your children? In this episode, I sit down with a friend whose life has been shaped by both hardship and incredible grace. From an unstable childhood to being taken in and loved by a church family, her story is one of redemption—but what stands out most is how she has chosen to carry that forward into her own motherhood. We talk about: Healing relationships with both of her mothers Setting boundaries with love and respect Navigating family dynamics while protecting her children Creating a home rooted in stability, safety, and intention This conversation is a beautiful reminder that you can hold both love and boundaries, honor your past, and still create a different future for your family.

013 | The Quiet Power of a Learning Mother

In this episode of Refining Our Focus in Motherhood, we continue our homeschooling series by going one step deeper. Today we go beyond curriculum and into the heart of what truly shapes a learning home. What if the most powerful part of your homeschool isn’t what you teach… but the life your children see you living every day? In this episode, I share how the Well-Educated Heart philosophy has not only influenced the way I guide my children’s education, but how it has transformed me personally. From learning alongside my kids in science, to discovering a love for history through storytelling, I’ve seen firsthand how a mother’s own growth can shape the atmosphere of the home. We talk about: Why education begins with the mother The impact of modeling a life of learning How shared learning creates deeper engagement The role of stories, beauty, and curiosity in education Why presence matters more than perfect plans If you’ve ever felt like you don’t know enough, or that you need the perfect curriculum to do this well, this episode is a gentle reminder: you don’t have to have all the answers. All you need to do is be willing to learn. Reflection Questions: What are my children seeing me learn right now? What kind of atmosphere am I creating in my home? What is one small thing I could begin learning or enjoying this week alongside my children? 012 | Book Club March

Welcome back to our Life-Giving Home Book Club. We’re so glad you’re here with us for our March conversation. Last month, we reflected on love as the foundation of a life-giving home. In this episode, we continue the journey as we explore the invitation found in the March chapter—to notice the beauty woven into everyday life. Together, we reflect on the simple ways beauty can be cultivated within the rhythms of our homes. From quiet rituals and family traditions to spontaneous adventures and slow afternoons, we discuss how small moments can shape an atmosphere of peace, joy, and refuge for our families. This conversation also invites us to reconsider the pace of our days. Instead of seeing slow or rainy days as interruptions, we talk about how they can become opportunities to rest, reconnect, and rediscover the goodness present in ordinary moments. Building a life-giving home doesn’t require elaborate plans or perfect spaces. Often it’s found in the simplest practices—taking a walk together, lighting a candle during dinner, reading aloud, or noticing the beauty of creation around us. The home you are cultivating matters. The atmosphere you create, the rhythms you establish, and the quiet attention you give to everyday life help shape a place where hearts can rest and grow.

011 | Spiritual Habits for Moms Who Feel Overwhelmed

If you’ve been feeling spiritually stretched thin in the middle of motherhood, this episode is a gentle reset. Today we’re refining our focus on the small, steady spiritual habits that help us feel less overwhelmed and more anchored in peace. Building on our recent conversation about raising children to know God in a world that’s forgetting Him, we turn the lens inward and ask an honest question: how do we guide our children toward Him when we ourselves feel weary? Rooted in Gospel of Matthew 11:28 which says, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” this episode is an invitation to lay down spiritual pressure and rediscover spiritual rest. We talk candidly about: What spiritual overwhelm can look like in everyday motherhood Moments of connection with God in ordinary, even chaotic, days Practical ways to seek Him without adding more to your to-do list Spiritual faithfulness vs. spiritual productivity — and why God is after our hearts, not our checklists We also share personal reflections, including a meaningful experience studying the Book of Mormon, and explore simple “this or that” questions to help you think about what fits your current season: Morning quiet time, night quiet time, or whenever it happens? Scripture reading or listening? App or physical scriptures? Silence or worship music while cleaning? You’ll leave with one simple piece of listener homework: choose just one spiritual habit to focus on this week. Keep it small. Keep it doable. Let it be life-giving rather than pressure-filled. If you’re feeling spiritually dry or disconnected, this episode is a reminder that you don’t need a perfect quiet time to meet with God. You need a willing heart. He sees the sacred work you’re doing as a mother and He meets you there. If this episode brings you peace, share it with a friend or leave a review. It helps us reach more moms who need this kind of grace.

010 | Everyday Moms Making a Difference: Opening Our Homes, Opening Hearts | with Amanda

Interview #2 | Everyday Moms Making a Difference – with Amanda In this episode of Refining Our Focus in Motherhood, Staci sits down with her friend Amanda to talk about the simple, powerful impact of opening our homes and building Christ-centered community through playgroups and intentional gathering. Amanda shares how small invitations — park days, living room playdates, and consistent hospitality — became a lifeline for moms in her community. Together, they discuss overcoming the fear of hosting, keeping gatherings simple in seasons of young children, and why perfection is never required for meaningful connection. If you’ve ever longed for deeper friendships, felt hesitant to invite others in, or wondered how to cultivate community without burnout, this conversation will encourage and equip you. Rooted in Ecclesiastes 4:9–10, this episode is a reminder that two truly are better than one — and sometimes God uses us to create the very community we’ve been praying for. You don’t need a perfect home. You don’t need elaborate plans. You just need a willing heart. 009 | The Well-Educated Heart in Our Home

Welcome back to Refining Our Focus in Motherhood. In this episode, I’m continuing our homeschool series by moving from philosophy into practice. Last time, I shared the story of how we came to homeschooling and how the idea of educating through the heart began reshaping the way I see both learning and motherhood. Today, I want to open the door and show you what this actually looks like in our home right now.  My thinking has been deeply influenced by Charlotte Mason, who described education as an atmosphere, a discipline, and a life, and by Marlene Peterson and her vision of The Well-Educated Heart. These ideas have gently shifted me from trying to deliver education… to learning how to live it alongside my children. In this episode, I share: Why I had to let go of recreating “school at home” The three anchors shaping our days (good books, habits, and shared life) What we still do and why structure now serves formation instead of performance The hardest adjustment of all: changing my own expectations Encouragement from Galatians 6:9 for the slow, faithful work of motherhood This is an honest look at what’s working and what we’re still experimenting with as well as how this heart-centered approach is forming me just as much as it’s forming my children. If this episode encourages you, I would love for you to share it with a friend or leave a review. It helps grow this community of mothers who need the reminder that the small, faithful work matters.

    008 | Book Club February

Welcome back to our Life-Giving Home book club. We’re so glad you’re here with us for our February discussion. Last month, we began this journey together, laying the foundation for what it means to cultivate a home rooted in Christ. In this episode, we continue the conversation as we dive into the February chapter and explore what it truly means to choose love both intentionally and daily within the walls of our homes. Together, we reflect on the moments, sentences, and stories that challenged and encouraged us. We talk honestly about how this chapter reshapes our understanding of love in motherhood and marriage, not as a feeling, but as a steady, Christ-centered choice. We unpack what “choosing love daily” looks like on the hard days, the busy days, and the days when we feel exhausted and overstimulated. This conversation is a reminder that building a life-giving home isn’t about perfection as much as presence. It’s about choosing love again and again in the middle of ordinary days, messy kitchens, and tired hearts. The work you are doing matters. The tone you set, the words you speak, and the quiet faithfulness of motherhood reflect God’s heart more than you may realize.

005 | Why I Chose The Well-Educated Heart for Our Homeschooling

In this opening episode of our homeschooling series, I share our family’s homeschool story including how we began, why we chose to leave traditional schooling, and how our understanding of education has slowly transformed over the past eight years. What started as “school at home” eventually became something much deeper. God gently led us toward a vision of education rooted in relationship, character, and faith. In this episode, we talk about releasing the need to be “on track,” redefining success, and embracing the mother’s role as a living example of loving what is good, true, and beautiful. If you’ve ever felt tired, unsure, or quietly longing for a better way, this episode is an invitation to breathe, reflect, and remember that God gives the growth. 004 | Book Club January

This episode marks the beginning of our Refining Our Focus Book Club, a year-long conversation centered on The Life-Giving Home. Once a month, we’ll gather here to talk through the chapter’s monthly focus, share what resonated with us, and reflect on how these ideas can take shape in real homes and real motherhood without pressure, guilt, or the need to do it all. We’re so excited to start this journey with you and to share a book that has been deeply inspiring and helpful to both of us. The Life-Giving Home invites us to slow down and live with greater intention, offering gentle reflections rather than rigid systems. It’s a month-by-month guide designed to meet you where you are including your family, your rhythms, and your current season. In this January discussion, we reflect on: The feelings that lingered with us after reading the chapter Sentences or ideas that made us pause and reread Why certain themes feel especially timely right now Which practices feel truly life-giving rather than life-draining in this season We’ll also share thoughtful discussion questions you can reflect on personally or talk through with others, and we’ll end with a simple listener challenge.    Links: The Lifegiving Home: Creating a Place of Belonging and Becoming Instagram Facebook Refining Our Focus - Finding Happiness Through Simple Living

003 | It Takes a Sisterhood to Raise a Mother

Modern motherhood can feel isolating, even when we’re surrounded by people we love. In this episode, we lean into a powerful truth: mothers were never meant to carry this calling alone. Continuing the conversation from our last episode, we explore how God often fills our emptiest places through His presence and through other women. From history to scripture to lived experience, we’re reminded that motherhood was designed to be shared, supported, and seen within sisterhood. We talk honestly about how motherhood can feel incredibly full and incredibly lonely at the same time, and how the pressure to “do it all” has confused strength with self-sufficiency. Together, we unpack why needing help doesn’t mean you’re failing, it just means you’re human. In this episode, we share: Why modern motherhood can feel so isolating How God often works through other mothers to meet our deepest needs Three simple, practical ways to find support when you feel lonely in your mothering Tangible ideas for building connection through small, sacred acts We’ll also invite you into reflection with thoughtful discussion questions and end with a gentle call to action, one small step you can take this week toward connection. Because you don’t need to do everything. You don’t need to do it perfectly. And you were never meant to do it alone. It truly takes a sisterhood to raise a mother. 002 | You Were Never Meant to Mother Alone

Inviting God into Everyday Motherhood Motherhood is filled with moments of beauty, weakness, noise, and quiet faithfulness and none of it is meant to be carried alone. In this episode, we reflect on the power of inviting God into the everyday rhythms of motherhood: the chaos, the unseen efforts, and the places where we feel inadequate or overwhelmed. We talk honestly about what it looks like to bring our whole selves, including our doubts, our fatigue, and our hope before a loving Heavenly Father who has given us this divine calling. As we turn to Him for daily strength, wisdom, and peace, we begin to see how He meets us right where we are and walks with us through it all. This episode is an invitation to pause, breathe, and remember that God is present in every ordinary moment of your motherhood. 001 | The Sacredness of Motherhood

Motherhood can feel repetitive, unseen, and exhausting. However, it is never insignificant. In this opening episode, we begin with a truth that anchors everything we believe: motherhood is sacred. Not just a role. Not just a season. But a divine calling—even in the monotony, even in the sacrifice, even on the days you feel like you’re barely holding it together. In this episode, we explore how God sees mothers, why your daily work matters more than you realize, and how reframing your identity can bring peace and purpose back into your days. Through personal stories and timeless truths, we invite you to see yourself as as your Father in Heaven does: worthy, chosen, and doing holy work. If you’ve ever wondered whether what you’re doing really matters, then this episode is for you.   Links: "When Queens Ride By" PDF "When Queens Ride By" YouTube reading Jeffrey R.
