#1077 The Posture of Wellness
Have you ever felt like you're doing everything right, stayed faithful, done the work, surrendered it to God, and still felt like it isn't working? Maybe it's your health, your marriage, a dream, or a body that won't cooperate. You've sown plenty and harvested little, and you're starting to wonder: is this even worth it? In this episode, Alisa gets honest about a season she's just walked through herself and unpacks why our instinct in that place is almost always the same: to grip tighter. She talks about the "palmer grasp reflex." The primitive, clenching survival instinct we're literally born with explains why we try to control our weight, our health, and our circumstances when life feels uncertain. Walking through the story of Abraham and Sarah in Genesis 12, Alisa unpacks what she calls the posture of wellness, a way of holding both pain and trust, sorrow and celebration, certainty and mystery, at the same time, instead of swinging between control and collapse. You're invited to picture and practice what it looks like to open your hands and receive rather than grasp and control. Bringing both our pain and our praise to God at the same time. Embodied Practices to Participate in Surrender Notice the clench: Pay attention to the moments you start gripping, controlling, or trying to force an outcome. That's your cue to pause. Get curious instead of certain: When you feel the urge to white-knuckle a decision or a habit, ask a question instead of making a final judgment. Open your hands: Practice naming what's hard in one hand and what you know is true about God in the other and bring both to Him. These aren't just spiritual practices; they're ways of working with how God designed our nervous systems so that our minds, bodies, and spirits can come into alignment with Him. #1076 "You Won't Be Wrong" A REVING the Word Workout
You can be walking with God and still walk through painful places. Following Jesus does not mean we avoid hurt, opposition, or discomfort. But it does mean we are never without His presence. In this REVING the Word workout, Alisa Keeton explores Luke 10:17-20 and the authority Jesus gives His followers. When the 72 disciples returned amazed by what God had done through them, Jesus reminded them that their greatest victory was not what they accomplished, but that their names were written in heaven. Followers of Jesus will experience hurt. We will face resistance and walk through hard things. But when you are anchored in Jesus, "you won't be wrong." Press play, move your body, open your heart, and let His Word move in you. Anchor Scriptures Luke 10:17–20 Luke 9 Luke 12:32 Hebrews 11:1 Psalm 139 New to REVING the Word? Your body was created to carry the presence and purpose of God. In REVING the Word episodes, we don't just listen to Scripture; we practice it. We let God's truth move from our ears into our hearts and through our bodies. Move however you want. Walk. Lift. Stretch. Dance. There is no "right" way. As you move your body, remember: you were made for more than sitting on the sidelines. You were created to walk in the authority Jesus gives you. 🎧 Playlist for This Workout Listen to the Music (DJ Malibu Mix) – The Doobie Brothers A Smile with Scars – CRi, Romain Garcia What I see (feat. #1074 "Treasures" A Be Still and Be Loved Biblical Meditation
Be Still & Be Loved is a guided Scripture meditation designed to help you slow down, quiet your mind, and rest in God's presence. Whether you're beginning your day, taking a midday pause, or preparing for sleep, this space invites you to breathe deeply and receive His peace. Take a few moments to settle into a comfortable position. If you're able, lie down. If not, find a seat where you can rest without distraction. As you begin to notice your breath, pay attention to how your state of being starts to shift. Every inhale and exhale is a reminder that God is near, holding you with His steady love. In this guided meditation, you'll reflect on 2 Corinthians 4:7: "But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us." Though our bodies are fragile, they carry something infinitely valuable—God's presence. He is our greatest treasure, and He treasures every part of us, including our minds. Together we'll quiet the noise, fix our thoughts on what is excellent, noble, and true, and rest in the One who is making us new—body, mind, and spirit. Breathe deeply. You are held. You are loved. You are His treasure. #1073 Does the Body Really Keep the Score?
Have you seen videos of people experiencing a dramatic emotional release and wondered, "Do I need that to heal?" The conversation around trauma, somatic healing, and nervous system regulation has exploded in recent years. Many point to the bestselling book The Body Keeps the Score and the idea that trauma is stored in the body. Others argue that trauma isn't stored in the body at all, but rather in the brain's predictive patterns and responses. So what's true? In this episode, Alisa explores this important conversation through both science and Scripture, examining where biology and theology meet. Together we'll consider what trauma does to the brain and body, why healing requires more than information alone, and how God's design for our minds and bodies points us toward lasting freedom. You'll discover: What somatic release is The difference between trauma being "stored" in the body versus encoded in the brain How trauma can impact our ability to shift from fear, anxiety, and hypervigilance into peace and safety Why tending to the body can help us tend to the mind What Romans 12:2 and 2 Corinthians 10:5 teach us about renewing our minds Why healing happens in connection, not isolation How the compassion of Christ invites us into true restoration Alisa also unpacks Jesus' encounter with the man at the pool in John 5, asking a powerful question: Do we truly want to be healed, even when healing requires discomfort, surrender, and change? Practical Ways to Participate in Healing Get close to Jesus Spend time in God's Word until your heart is awakened to His truth and love. Stay connected to God's people Healing happens in relationships with people who embody the love and truth of Christ. Practice daily sacrifice Learn to become comfortable with healthy discomfort. These practices are more than spiritual disciplines—they are psycho-neuro-biological pathways that help align our minds, bodies, and spirits with God's design for wholeness. #1072 "Welcoming All Things" A REVING the Word Workout
Join Alisa Keeton for a light interval workout and contemplative prayer practice rooted in Romans 8:28. Drawing from the teachings of Thomas Keating, Alisa explores surrender as an active posture of trust—not apathy, but courage. As you move, you'll consider what it means to welcome God into every part of your life, especially the places where you're striving, overfunctioning, worrying, or trying to stay in control. Through gentle intervals and reflective questions, you'll be invited to notice where your fists are closed and practice opening your hands to God's presence. Together, you'll explore the difference between groaning and grumbling, how suffering can become a pathway to deeper trust, and why surrender is often the beginning of coming home to God. This workout will help you shift from frustration to fascination, from anxiety to adventure, as you remember that God is working all things toward good. #1071 "The God Who Sees" A REVING the Word INTERVAL Workout
In this interval workout, Alisa Keeton invites you to move your body so you can return to your body—and encounter a God who created it. This is not a "have to." It's a get-to. A chance to care for your body, nourish it, and remember that worry and striving lead toward bondage, while presence leads toward freedom. A Question to Begin When was the last time you felt truly seen by God? Because the God who sees… sees you. Today's Scripture 📖 Genesis 1:31 "God saw all that He had made, and it was very good." The Hebrew word tov means good—whole, complete, flourishing. Before anything was said, there was seeing. God didn't just declare goodness—He saw it. Knowing vs. Being Seen Knowing God is cognitive. Being seen by God is embodied. To know we are good, we need to be seen. Three Ways to Experience Being Seen by God Read the Word Gather in community Be known (vulnerability and honesty) Move as an Invitation As you move through today's intervals, let this become more than exercise. Let it become a practice of receiving God's gaze. You are not striving to be good. You are learning to believe what God already sees. Keep moving. Stay present. And let yourself be seen. #1068 "Come Find Us"A Be Still and Be Loved Biblical Meditations
Life can feel heavy. Worry settles into our minds, tension finds its way into our bodies, and burdens quietly accumulate. In this gentle Scripture meditation, Alisa Keeton invites you to intentionally pause and place yourself in a posture of receiving. As you settle into stillness, you'll be encouraged to notice where you're carrying weight, stress, or concern and welcome God into those places. This is a sacred invitation to say, "God, I need You. Come find me." Meditating on Psalm 139:7–12, you'll be reminded that there is nowhere you can go beyond God's loving presence. He surrounds you with His wraparound care, hems you in on every side, and meets you right where you are. As He finds you, He brings peace, lightness, and the reassurance that you do not have to carry life's burdens alone. Come as you are. Bring what hurts. Bring what feels heavy. God's presence is already near. Anchor Scripture "Where can I go from your Spirit? #1067 The History of Skinny
Why are bodies getting smaller while the pressure on women keeps getting bigger? In this honest conversation, Alisa explores the cultural history behind "skinny" and how thinness became more than a body type—it became a value system. From social media and celebrity culture to the rise of GLP-1 medications, she unpacks the modern obsession with shrinking ourselves and asks: how did we get here? For most of human history, thinness was not the ideal. Curvier bodies once represented wealth, health, abundance, and freedom from hard labor. So what changed? Alisa traces the major cultural shifts beginning in the 1700s, when thinness became tied to morality, status, control, and virtue through the influences of classicism, racism, and religious legalism. She also discusses how Enlightenment thinking separated people from their bodies—teaching us to live "from the head up" while distrusting the body God created. This episode isn't about health. It's about the spiritual and emotional roots beneath the desire to be smaller. Along the way, she explores why God delights in diversity. Creation itself reveals a Creator who loves variety—not uniformity. From ecosystems and landscapes to personalities, gifts, and bodies, God's design reflects abundance rather than sameness. What if body diversity wasn't a problem to solve, but part of God's good and intentional design? We also talk about: The intense pressure women face to stay thin The influence of social media and celebrity culture The growing normalization of GLP-1 medications How body ideals have changed throughout history Why God values diversity in His creation, including our bodies What the Bible actually says about gluttony Why behavior change without heart healing never lasts The spiritual chains hidden beneath body obsession Most importantly, she asks the question that culture rarely asks: Who are you becoming? The gospel does not call us to become thinner versions of ourselves. It calls us to become more like Christ. While the world focuses on shrinking bodies, God is concerned with transforming hearts. Freedom begins when we stop measuring our worth by our appearance and start allowing Christ to form His character within us. At the root of every body struggle is a deeper question: What's happening in the heart that's driving the behavior? This episode is a call to a Body Reformation—a reformation of value and worth. The goal is not a smaller body, but a freer heart. Not conformity to culture, but transformation in Christ. Because the question that matters most isn't How do I look? But who am I becoming? #1066 "You Don't Have to Believe to Belong" A REVING the Word Workout
In this Walk + Talk episode, Aaron Brewer invites you to move your body while engaging with the Word of God and reflecting on what it truly means to love others well. Lace up your shoes and bring your whole self—body, mind, and spirit—as Aaron keeps you company on your walk, run, or workout. This is more than a podcast to listen to. It's one to experience. A Question to Reflect On As you move today, consider this: Can someone belong with you before they believe like you? How welcome would an unbeliever feel around you? Would they sense openness? Curiosity? Compassion? Or would they feel pressure to perform, prove, or pretend? Belonging Before Belief Jesus consistently created space for people before they fully understood who He was. He saw people. He walked with people. He welcomed people. Today's conversation invites us to examine how we carry ourselves as followers of Christ—and whether our lives reflect the kind of welcome Jesus offered. As You Move Stay open. Stay honest. Notice what rises up in you as you reflect. Where might God be expanding your compassion? Where is He inviting you to love more like Him? Keep moving. Keep listening. And remember: sometimes belonging is the very thing that opens the door to belief. New to REVING the Word? Press play and take this episode on a walk, run, hike, or to the gym. #1065 "MRI of the Heart" A REVING the Word Workout
What if today's workout helped you see yourself the way God does? In this movement episode, Alisa Keeton reminds you that this workout is a gift—not an obligation. You don't have to do this. Don't let your flesh bully you around. So begin with grace. Move with openness. And invite God to meet you here. Today's Scripture 📖 1 Samuel 16:7 "Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." Where our eyes naturally go, God often is not looking. We tend to focus on appearance, performance, and externals. But God sees deeper. And if we want to live fully alive, we need Him to help us see what He sees. The Heart of the Matter Your heart is what makes you, you. Scripture describes the heart as the center of everything: your thoughts your emotions your desires your understanding your will your soul The inner man. The inner woman. Today is an invitation to let God do an MRI of the heart—not with shame or fear, but with love and truth. Move and Notice As you move today, pay attention: What's happening beneath the surface? What thoughts keep rising up? What emotions are asking to be acknowledged? Look around. Slow down enough to see differently. Ask God to help you see yourself—and others—the way He does. Keep moving. Stay curious. And let Him meet you at the heart.
