Vessels of Prayer
This is the first of three short readings from the powerful book "A Pot of Oil" written by G.D. Watson and published in 1900. On today's podcast, Brother Ed reads this chapter, which focuses on the call of every Christian, in that there is a call to being a vessel of prayer.Webster's 1828 defines vessels literally as a vat or container of something, so we're called to be containers of prayers from the Holy Spirit. Note the progression that comes as we mature in Christ, which is evidenced in our prayer life. One thing that Brother Watson didn't talk about in this short chapter, is the devil's reaction to our calling as vessels. He will do everything possibly to side-track from God's purpose in our lives, so we must learn to walk in the spirit lest the devil divert us.Finally I want to show some of the commentary from James 5:16 and James 5:17 from a brother named W.B. Godbey, another holiness preacher and teacher from the late 19th century to the early 20th century which explains Brother Watson's teaching even more clearly.16. “The inwrought prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” The Greek for inwrought is energeumenee. It means the prayer wrought in the heart by the Holy Ghost. It is from ergon, work, and en, in. When the Holy Ghost works a prayer in your heart He is sure to answer it. This wonderful truth is corroborated by the case of Elijah, when he prayed three years in the cave by the Brook Cherith... 17. “Elijah prayed with prayer” (not “earnestly,” as your English reads). “With prayer,” as the Greek has it, is very significant. It means that Elijah prayed with the prayer which God gave him. That is the reason why he could lock the heavens three years and six months and withhold the rains. If God were to give you the prayer you could do the same, because God always answers the prayers which He gives. Learn the secret of prevailing prayer. Get in touch with the Almighty so He will give you your prayers, then He is sure to answer them. It makes no difference how low down your son or husband has sunk in sin, if you get in touch with God, so He will give you your petitions. You have but to take hold of Him in prayer and He will raise them up. “Elijah was a man of like suffering,” i. e., he suffered hunger, thirst and pain as we do. “Passion” is the wrong word, as Elijah was surely saved from all carnal passions, as we ought to be. (W.B. Godbey's Commentary on the New Testament (Full release in 1910))I pray that the Lord will teach you to pray as you listen to this messages. Here's a Keith Green song that goes along with today's message: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNww8F6G9U8.

Little Things
Today's book reading is from another G.D. Watson, this one entitled Soul Food and was published by what is now God's Bible School in Cincinnati Ohio in 1896. We tend to be focused so much on the big things that we can miss God in the little things. Be blessed as you listen. Here is a song that fits in with this message from Kelly Willard:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaoZvoj1pQg&list=RDMaoZvoj1pQg&start_radio=1

Pure Gold (by G.D. Watson)
I'm reading a chapter from the book "Pure Gold" and this chapter is the one the book is named after, talking about the three types of gold and purification process that God calls all Christians to engage in. It's a wonderful message, be blessed as you listen. If you're a Christian, you cannot and will not be able to escape God's refining process in your life. We can choose to look at this in one of two ways, as our dear Brother Watson looked at it, which was on the hopeful side. If we go this way, how can our heart not grow hopeful and trusting, even in the midst of a great fire because we know he simply wants to liberate the gold. I've chosen this path because it's greatly encouraged me to trust Jesus, even in the midst of some difficult storms. On the other hand, we can grown hard and bitter if we think that Jesus wants to take something of value from us. Jesus only wants to remove any and everything that blocks the gold from its liberation. Jesus is determined to set you free! Put your trust in Jesus, He wants to liberate you, so that you can serve the Lord with gladness come what may in your life. Amen! Here's a message in song from Keith Green that goes along with this message from Brother Watson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNww8F6G9U8&list=RDPNww8F6G9U8&start_radio=1.

Mamaw Pugh's (my Grandmother's) Testimony
I'm happy to share my grandmother's testimony from an old cassette recording my mom gave me during a recent visit to Kentucky. The recording is an excerpt from a radio broadcast on WFLE (Flemingsburg's old AM station, which is no longer on the air). My dad recorded it and he missed the first couple of minutes but my grandmother is speaking about how the Lord had drawn her heart (and her husband back to the Lord) in 1956. It's a story I heard many times and I'll be making a video to share my thoughts about my precious grandmother soon. With "vintage" recordings, it's difficult to take out all the noise without deleting a lot of the voice in a 40+ year recording, so I've done this many times. It's not perfect but you can hear it and I went through the captions very closely, so they'll be helpful for you. (I'll be adding this on the website in the next day or two.) Here's the song she referenced in her testimony (I believe it's it): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfWPvyQWAJU&list=PLsQiit4-9gF83rMuRDZ91EZIgI0GjtvjQ&index=62

Bring My Soul Out of Prison
This is my personal testimony of what the Lord has been doing in my heart over the last number of months. This is how the Lord is reshaping me, as I'm simply the clay and as we trust Him and give ourselves to Him, He reshapes us. It's not self-help, it's the power of Jesus. Since we know from the scriptures that Jesus is not a respector of persons, he will do a very similar work in your heart if you ask Him and seek Him with all of your heart. He has come to heal the broken-hearted and to bring deep healing in our hearts. Here's a wonderful song that lays out a similar message, I've tried to convey today from a fellow Welsh brother, Huw Priday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNF-dX-8kw4&list=RDTNF-dX-8kw4&start_radio=1

You Are the Potter, I Am the Clay
Scriptures Used During Today's Broadcast: Isaiah 64:8, Jeremiah 18:1-10, Romans 9:19-20, Isaiah 45:9, Psalm 103:14, Psalm 139:13-15Sometimes we need a reminder that we're simply the clay and we desperately need the Potter. May the Holy Spirit remind you of your great need as you listen. (The cover art was a feeble attempt to show a piece of clay that wanted to be the potter. It's not going to happen...)

A Wonderfully Honest Testimony
In this podcast, I'm reading Hannah Smith testimony she drafted in 1887, that was part of a book published in 1888 entitled "Forty Witnesses" by S. Olin Garrison. I've attached the entire book, now in the public domain on our website (revivalnow.church).

Hannah Smith's Model Prayer
I'm included a model prayer that Hannah included in her wonderful book The Christian's Secret of a Happy Life. If your desire to have a happy life in Christ, may this prayer call you to a full consecration to Jesus and an absolute trust in His faithfulness to bring you into a deeper union with Jesus.

An End to Doubting
Sources Used During Today's Podcast: The Christian's Secret of a Happy Life by Hannah W. Smith (Chapter 14 entitled Doubt) published in 1875 (therefore in the public domain)We haven't finished lament just yet but the Holy Spirit trumpeted these words deep in my soul and I believe this will help many. Listen as I attempt to read Chapter 14 of this wonderful book. It's a polemic against doubting God's promises. Isn't it time, we the church stop letting the doubts of the devil rule in our hearts? (That's a rhetorical question dear one...)Jesus has made provision to free us from every doubt of fear. That's not to say that we won't have trials and difficulties or sufferings, we certainly will have those. Enter into an agreement with Jesus that by His power, doubt will no longer grab you and by the blood of Jesus be free today...We've uploaded the entire on our website as a PDF document.

Rebukes and Chastenings...
Key Scripture During This Video: Hebrews 12:5 (And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:), rebukes of Abraham (Genesis 12:10-20, Genesis 20:1-18)I noticed that I focused mostly on rebukes in the video but we must approach chastisements in the same way by taking these things to the Lord and tests the spirits. The topic of chastisements is incredibly broad and the Lord can bring correction in any area of our life, in any way He chooses. It's important to remember that He is the potter and we are the clay. I spent a protacted period (about two years) where the Lord would simply whisper the word potter to me, when I was trying to manage my life.He is a mighty God who doesn't show off but He's looking to bring correction so that we may be partakers of His holiness (See Hebrews 12:10-11). May Jesus open your eyes and draw your heart closer to Him. I stumbled across the wonderful video below from Carolyn Arends on Psalm 5. The Lord will give ear to our words as we cry out to Him.I also wanted to add him that my career as an impersonator was ended by the Lord, after His rebuke.

Backsliding...
Here's a quick overview on backsliding. Backsliding is very often a subtle pulling away from Jesus. It can be indiscernible for a long period of time, resulting in self-induced deception. The good news is that Jesus can heal us from our backsliding (read the book of Hosea). Most backsliding goes undetected, making it even more lethal than it already is.
