Ep. 22 Why is there still hope for the world? Genesis 8:1-19

After the floodwaters begin to recede, Genesis 8 reveals more than the end of God's judgment—it reveals the beginning of God's restoration. In this message, we explore how Noah's story points us to God's work of new creation, new life, and new hope.As the ark comes to rest, the mountains emerge, the dove brings back an olive leaf, and Noah steps into a renewed world, we see a powerful picture of the gospel. The God who judged the world is also the God who gives it life. This sermon examines the connections between Genesis 8 and creation, the symbolism of the raven and the dove, the patience required to wait on God's work, and how Noah's story ultimately points forward to Jesus Christ and the new life found in Him. Main Idea:The God who judged the world gives it life.In This Message: • God remembers Noah and begins restoring the world • The flood as a picture of de-creation and re-creation • The significance of the raven and the dove • New life emerging after judgment • Noah as a picture pointing forward to Christ • Why spiritual transformation takes time • The hope of new creation through JesusSermon from Rise Church in Dyer, Indiana.Message preached by Pastor Josh Benner

Ep. 21 Why doesn't obedience save us? Genesis 7

Noah was righteous. Noah was obedient. Noah walked with God.So why did he still need an ark?In Genesis 7, we discover a truth that runs through the entire Bible: obedience matters, but obedience cannot save us. Noah wasn't rescued because he earned God's favor. He was rescued because he first found favor in God's eyes. This message explores the relationship between grace, faith, and obedience, and why churches often drift toward one of two extremes: legalism or lawlessness. God's grace is free, but that doesn't mean God is indifferent to how we live. True faith produces obedience—not as the cause of salvation, but as its result.Sermon from Rise Church in Dyer, Indiana Message preached by Pastor Josh Benner

Ep. 20 Why is sin easier than righteousness? Genesis 6:9-22

Why does evil seem so natural while righteousness feels so difficult? In this message from Genesis 6:9-22, we continue our study through The Story of Noah and examine one of the Bible's most famous accounts. Noah lived in a world filled with corruption and violence, yet he stood out as a man who walked with God.This passage challenges us to think deeply about the problem of sin. If God judged the world through the flood and removed the wicked, why did humanity continue to struggle with sin afterward? The answer reveals an important biblical truth: the problem is not merely bad people doing bad things—it is the sinful human heart. In this sermon, we explore:-Why Noah was called righteous-God's righteous judgment in the flood-The meaning and significance of Noah's Ark-Why removing evil people does not solve the problem of sin-The first covenant in the Bible-How Noah points forward to Jesus Christ-Why grace, not judgment alone, is the ultimate answer to humanity's deepest problem-The flood account reminds us that God takes sin seriously, but it also reveals His mercy, faithfulness, and plan of salvation. The same God who judged the world also provided a way of rescue—and ultimately sent Jesus to give new life to sinners.Message from Rise Church in Dyer, Indiana. Sermon preached by Pastor Josh Benner

Ep. 19 Why is the World so Broken? Genesis 6:1-8

Why is the world so broken? Why is there so much evil, suffering, and sin? And if God is good, why does He allow it?In this message from Genesis 6:1–8, we begin our new Noah series by looking at humanity’s corruption before the flood, God’s grief over sin, and the hope of grace in a fallen world. The flood account is more than a children’s story—it’s a sobering picture of human depravity, divine judgment, and the only true hope found in Jesus Christ.

Ep. 18 Faith that Works on Mondays - James 1

James 1 reminds us that trials don’t destroy faith; they reveal it. In this sermon, we look at how God uses pressure to grow perseverance, how temptation exposes the desires already in our hearts, and why simply hearing God’s Word isn’t enough—we must respond in obedience. If you’ve ever wondered what authentic Christianity actually looks like in real life, this message will challenge and encourage you. Sermon from Rise Church in Dyer, Indiana. Message preached by Elder Grant Ray.

    Ep. 15 Why Mission isn't Optional - Matthew 28:18-20

What does the Great Commission mean, and why is mission not optional for Christians? In this sermon on Matthew 28:18-20, we look at why every believer is called to live on mission for Christ. Jesus did not give the Great Commission only to pastors or missionaries, but to every Christian. This message explores three core parts of Christian mission: discipleship, service, and evangelism. To follow Jesus is to become His disciple, to serve His Church with the gifts He has given, and to share the gospel with the people God has placed in your life. From 1 Corinthians 12 to Acts 9, this sermon shows how every Christian has a meaningful role in God’s mission and why even ordinary acts of faithfulness can have eternal impact.Message from Rise Church in Dyer, Indiana. And honestly, many of us can relate. We want certainty. We want evidence. We want to see before we believe. But when Jesus appears, everything changes. In this message, we explore:Why Thomas doubted—and why we do tooHow Jesus responds to honest skepticismWhy faith isn’t blind, but rooted in real historyEvidence for the resurrection of JesusWhat it means to believe without seeingThe resurrection isn’t just a spiritual idea—it’s a historical claim that changes everything. Ep. 9 The Graveyard and the Tree - Genesis 4:17-5:32

We often think our moment in history is the most important but the Bible tells a different story. In Genesis 4–5, we see two paths: one marked by success but ending in death, and another seemingly ordinary line that leads to God’s promise. This sermon explores how real meaning isn’t found in achievement, but in being part of what God is doing through history.

  15. 7

Ep. 8 East of Eden - Genesis 4:1-16

If you know the story of Cain and Abel, it's an infamous passage in the Bible where an older brother takes the life of his younger sibling. Because Cain becomes such an infamous figure, it's easy to let his reputation precede his story. But when we do that, we miss out on some important nuance to Cain's story: namely the great hope that was placed in him. Service from Rise Church in Dyer, Indiana. Sermon preached by Pastor Josh Benner

  16. 6

Ep. 7 The First Gospel | Genesis 3

It’s hard to even imagine what a world without sin would look like. Since the fall of man, every aspect of life and of our world has been affected by sin. As we’ve studied creation, sin has loomed over the story of God’s good world. In today’s passage, we look at the downfall of man and the first sin. But it’s a passage which is also hopeful. While there are severe consequences, it is the first place in the Bible that tells us of the gospel and of a future offspring of the woman who will finally and forever crush the serpent.

  17. 5

Ep. 6 The First Commission | Genesis 2:5-20

Work is universal to the human experience. In this week's study, we see that work is good. It exists before the fall. God works and he gives humanity a special task in his creation. While our work is impacted by the fall, it's something that all Christians are called to. This week, we talk about how work is also not just about an occupation but includes how we also live out our faith in terms of our relationship to our family, our society, and the Church.

  18. 4

Ep. 5 The Garden of Heaven | Genesis 2:4-17

From the beginning, God has been making a sacred space for people to dwell in his presence. Humanity was created in God’s unmitigated presence in Eden. Because of the fall, we were cast out. The story doesn’t end there. Throughout the Bible and human history, God is using the creative elements of Eden to continually point back to himself and to his gospel and our ultimate hope through Christ. Message from Rise Church in Dyer, Indiana. Sermon preached by Pastor Josh Benner.

  19. 3

Ep. 4 The Sabbath and Rest | Genesis 2:1-3

We live in a busy world with constant pressures on our time. This week's passage goes back to creation but it is just as relevant to us today as we look at rest in the Bible. From creation, we see that God gave us a day of the week that's ultimately meant to point us to a way to live.

  20. 2

Ep. 3 The Image of God | Genesis 1:26-31

What does it mean to be made in the Image of God? It's a question theologians have wrestled with for centuries. As we explore Genesis 1, we focus on three aspects of this image. We have been given dominion over the world, we were created for relationship with God, and we were created as moral beings. Because of sin, the image was corrupted. Through Jesus, we see it restored.

  21. 1

    Ep. 2 The Creator | Genesis 1:1-31

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1 tells us that God’s creation was good. In this message, we look at the impact of sin on creation and we look forward to the new work of creation that Jesus does. At the end of the Bible, the Lord will bring full restoration to his creation.
