What kind of shepherd lays down his life for the sheep? Not a hired hand. Not just a good leader. The Good Shepherd.This Sunday we explored John 10:11-18, where Jesus makes one of the most profound claims in all of scripture. He does not merely manage the flock from a safe distance. He walks into danger, absorbs the threat, and lays his life down willingly so that his sheep can live. As he says in verse 18, no one takes it from him. He lays it down on his own authority, and he takes it up again.Psalm 23 is not just a comforting poem. It is a portrait of a shepherd who walks with you through the valley, prepares a table in front of your enemies, and makes you lie down when you are too worn out to stop on your own. Jesus is the fulfillment of every word of it.

Who's guarding your life? In this week's message, we explored Jesus' powerful declaration: "I am the gate" (John 10:7). Just like a shepherd who literally sleeps across the entrance to protect his sheep, Jesus positions Himself as the only way in and the only way out of true life.Here's the beautiful truth: Jesus doesn't just save us and leave us to figure things out. He oversees our "coming in and going out" - every season, every transition, every moment. When threats come against us, they have to go through Him first. That's not just protection; that's personal, sacrificial love.The sheep know their shepherd's voice. Do you hear His? Whether you're making big decisions or navigating daily struggles, Jesus wants to lead when you go and keep you when you stay. He's not a hired hand working hourly - He's the Good Shepherd who has eternally accomplished the work of your salvation.Christ with you. Christ before you. Christ behind you. Christ around you.

We all have things we keep hidden in the dark—struggles, addictions, shame. But here's the truth: Jesus declared "I am the light of the world" not to expose us in judgment, but to heal us in love.The enemy wants you isolated, convinced that bringing your struggles into the light will destroy you. But it's the darkness that's destroying you. When we step into the light, something beautiful happens—we find fellowship with God AND with one another. We discover we're not alone, and the ground is level at the foot of the cross.Jesus came as light into darkness because God loves you. He already knows everything about you, and He's inviting you out of the shadows. The question isn't whether you can be known—it's whether you want to appear holy or actually BE holy. To be fully known and truly loved is what we need more than anything.Stop managing your darkness. Step into His light and find freedom.

What if the person you're holding captive through unforgiveness is actually you?This week we explored a powerful truth: "To forgive is to set a prisoner free and to realize that the prisoner was you." Like Leonardo DiCaprio's character in Inception, we often trap ourselves in the prison of unforgiveness, thinking we're holding others accountable when we're really holding ourselves hostage.The early church in Ephesus struggled with this too. Paul reminded them: "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you" (Ephesians 4:32). Here's the key—we can't offer forgiveness until we truly receive God's forgiveness. At your worst moment, Christ died for you. That's where freedom begins.Forgiveness isn't about feelings—it's about truth. Step into the truth first, and trust the feelings will follow. Otherwise, you'll stay trapped in an anger prison forever. So which do you choose: freedom or vindication? Freedom or being right?

We're in a season of transition at RCC, stepping out before our new building is ready. It feels uncertain, maybe even uncomfortable. But here's what God keeps reminding us: "I will never leave you nor forsake you."Just like Joshua stood at the Jordan River, facing the unknown after Moses died, we're at our own crossing point. God told Joshua three times to "be strong and courageous" because Joshua was scared. Maybe you're scared too—about our church's transition, your health, your marriage, your job. Whatever you're facing, God is asking: Do you believe I'm with you?Jesus was forsaken on the cross so we never would be. That's the promise we stand on as we move forward. We're not forsaken. We have a purpose in this season. Will you lean in with us? Consecrate your heart and ask God what He's doing in this moment.It's going to be okay. He's with us wherever we go.

Whether you had the best dad or the worst, we all carry wounds from our earthly fathers that sometimes spill over into how we see our Heavenly Father. The truth is simple but profound: we're hurt in relationship, and we're healed in relationship. You can't do it alone.The younger son had to face his shame. The older son had to name his pain. The father had to extend grace that wasn't fair - because grace never is. When we have the courage to name our hurt and invite healing, we open the door to restoration. Jesus went through abandonment on the cross so you'd never have to face your pain alone again.Healing isn't found in isolation or running away. It's found in coming home, in community, in relationship. What pain do you need to name today?

We're in a season of transition at River City Church, and honestly, it can feel a little unsettling. We know where we've been, we know where God is leading us, but the in-between? That's where faith gets real.Just like the Israelites standing at the Jordan River, staring at the Promised Land, we're learning that God is more concerned with our obedience than our understanding. He doesn't always show us the whole staircase—just the next step. And that's okay, because He's right there in the middle of it all with us.Here's what we need: preparation, courage, vision, and movement. We need to remember His faithfulness in our past so we can trust Him with our future. Our failures don't cancel out His promises. Where is God asking you to dip your feet in the water today? What step of faith is He calling you to take, even when you can't see the whole path?The word is near you—it's in your heart. You don't have to have it all figured out. You just have to follow Him.

We live in a world obsessed with finding the right diet, the perfect health regimen, the magic supplement that will transform us. But Jesus offers something far more radical and sustaining.In John 6, Jesus declares, "I am the bread of life." He doesn't just feed our bodies—He feeds our souls. When He tells us to eat His flesh and drink His blood, it's not about cannibalism; it's about spiritual nourishment that actually transforms us. Many walked away from Jesus that day because the teaching was too hard. But Peter stayed, asking, "Where else would we go? Your words are life."Every week, we have the gift of Communion—not just a symbol, but a spiritual feast where Christ is present. It's our opportunity to be renewed, healed, forgiven, and unified as one body. This isn't about fear or perfection; it's about coming hungry for the only meal that truly satisfies.When was the last time you approached the Table expecting to be spiritually fed? Christ invites you to hunger and thirst for Him.

Ever wonder what happens when our deepest convictions collide with the risen Christ?Paul's Damascus Road encounter wasn't just a conversion—it was a complete inversion of his moral universe. The man breathing threats and murder against Christians became Christianity's greatest ambassador. Why? Because he met the resurrected Jesus, who asked one piercing question: "Why are you persecuting ME?"Here's the truth: Religion without encountering Christ creates persecutors, not disciples. But when we genuinely meet the risen Lord, He doesn't just change our minds—He deploys us on mission. The place you're cleansed often becomes the place you're called.If you've walked away from faith or never truly encountered Him, maybe it's time to ask: "Who are you, Lord?" He's waiting to meet you exactly where you are—not to agree with you, but to transform you.

What if God's greatest gift wasn't just being WITH us, but being IN us?This Pentecost Sunday, we explored an incredible progression: God's presence moved from the ark, to Jesus walking among us, to the Holy Spirit dwelling within every believer. That's not just theology—it's transformation. When Jesus told His disciples to wait for power from on high, He was preparing them (and us) for a life we could never live in our own strength.The Holy Spirit isn't just about spiritual experiences. He adopts us into God's family, gives us new desires, reveals truth, and empowers us for the unique calling on our lives. Whether you're in full-time ministry or working anywhere else, God wants to fill you with His presence for what He's calling you to do. Both paths are hard—but only one bears fruit and is filled with joy.Are you hungry for more of God? Desperate for His presence? Even a mustard seed of faith is enough.

Ever feel like you're working hard for God but somehow missing Him in the process? Jesus met His disciples after a long, fruitless night of fishing and asked them to throw their nets on the other side. When they obeyed, they couldn't haul in the catch—153 fish that should have torn their nets but didn't.Here's the powerful truth: Peter had denied Jesus three times. Yet Jesus didn't reject him—He made him breakfast. Then He asked three times, "Do you love me?" Three questions for three denials. Not to shame Peter, but to restore him. Jesus transformed Peter from working FOR Him to following WITH Him.The question for us today: Do we need Jesus for what we're doing? Or are we so busy doing good things that we've stopped abiding in Him? Jesus doesn't just want servants—He calls us friends. He invites us to sit at His table, to know His heart, to join what He's already doing.Stop working for Jesus. Start following Him.

Have you ever felt that low-grade heaviness that won't seem to lift? You're not alone. This week we explored how God wants to break the chains of depression and oppression that have held us captive—sometimes since childhood.Here's the truth that sets us free: God calls things that are not as though they are. Just like Abraham's impossible promise became the foundation of our faith, your impossible situation can become a testimony of God's power. Things that were not can become as they are through Christ.We prayed against generational brokenness, unclean spirits, and the lies that tell us we're not enough. If you've been running on that low-grade depressive fever and forgotten what joy feels like, there's freedom waiting for you. Joy isn't happiness that goes up and down—it's the slow and steady movement of the Spirit connected to hope.Your breakthrough might be one prayer away. Because of the joy set before Him, Christ endured the cross. He did it for you.
