Psalm 23: A Poem for the Pilgrimage
On June 14, 2026, Pastor Jeff McLain explored Psalm 23 as "A Poem for the Pilgrimage," inviting listeners to rediscover one of Scripture's most familiar passages as a practical roadmap for everyday life rather than simply a reading for funerals. Psalm 23 is more than a comforting poem—it is a portable theology for the journey of faith. In this message, Pastor Jeff examines how David's imagery of the Shepherd reveals God's character as the One who provides, restores, guides, protects, blesses, and remains present with His people through every season of life. From green pastures and quiet waters to dark valleys and overflowing cups, each verse serves as a reminder of who God is when life feels uncertain, exhausting, or overwhelming. Drawing connections to the teachings of Jesus, this sermon shows how Psalm 23 calls believers to trust God's provision, embrace His guidance, rest in His presence, and live with eternity in view. Whether you are walking through a season of peace or a season of struggle, this message offers encouragement to remember what is already true: the Lord is your Shepherd, and that changes everything. River Corner Church is a simple community of Jesus followers gathering in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. We seek to follow Jesus together through worship, prayer, Scripture, fellowship, and mission. Our desire is to cultivate a way of life rooted in the teachings of Christ, attentive to the Holy Spirit, and shaped by the love of God for the sake of our neighbors and communities. For more information about River Corner Church, visit: rivercornerchurch.com#Psalm23 #PastorJeffMcLain #RiverCornerChurch #ChristianSermon #BibleTeaching #Jesus #FaithJourney #ShepherdPsalm #ChristianLiving #LancasterPA #SpiritualFormation #Psalm23Sermon #ChurchOnline #BibleStudy #FollowingJesusSend us Fan MailSupport the show

Sincere Faith: Keep the Main Thing Before You (1 Timothy 6)
What we keep before us will ultimately shape our direction. In this final message from our series through 1 Timothy, we explore Paul's closing instructions to Timothy and the church in Ephesus. From false teachers and the love of money to contentment, perseverance, and faithful living, Paul reminds us that sincere faith is cultivated when we keep the right things before us and fix our eyes on God's kingdom. In 1 Timothy 6, we discover:• How sincere faith shapes our relationships • Why false teaching and misplaced motives are dangerous • The connection between contentment and spiritual maturity • What Paul means by "fight the good fight of faith." • The dangers of wealth and misplaced hope • How to keep eternity in view while living faithfully todayThroughout this letter, Paul has challenged Timothy—and us—to cultivate a sincere faith that guards the gospel, pursues godliness, and helps others do the same.Scripture: 1 Timothy 6#1Timothy #BibleStudy #ChristianSermon #ChristianLiving #Discipleship #Faith #SpiritualFormation #Paul #NewTestament #ChurchSend us Fan MailSupport the show

Sincere Faith: Practices That Keep Us Anchored (1 Timothy 1)
In this sermon on 1 Timothy 1, Jeff McLain explores what it means to cultivate a sincere faith in a chaotic, noisy world. Using the real-life story of the drifting Kaz II yacht, this message highlights how faith doesn’t usually collapse all at once—it drifts over time. Paul’s encouragement to Timothy reveals four essential practices that anchor our faith: encouraging relationships, truth rooted in love, gospel humility, and remembering what God has spoken. This message challenges the church to stay grounded, resist false teaching, and live with boldness, clarity, and dependence on the Spirit so we don’t drift but remain anchored in Christ.River Corner Church is a simple community of Jesus followers rooted in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Resurrection Sunday: Living Hope. Living Gratitude (1 Peter 1:3-7)
Gratitude is a discipline that followers of Jesus are called to practice.Paul gives one of the most challenging reminders of this in 1 Thessalonians 5:18. He says, “Give thanks in all circumstances.” And then he adds, “for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”Gratitude is one clear expression of God’s will for us in Christ.Gratitude forms alignment with God’s purpose. It creates an anchor of trust during trials, and it surrenders our hearts to God’s transforming work.Gratitude is one way of saying, “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”To be thankful is to surrender in obedience to God’s will.Christians understand that in every circumstance, we have a choice. We can choose God’s will in Christ Jesus, or we can allow the will of others—or the will of the world—to shape our lives. For Paul, gratitude is both something we practice but it also a way we surrender.Gratitude is also a trait of the resurrected life.Who we are together.River Corner Church is a growing church community of everyday people who gather to worship God, follow Jesus, and journey through life together. What we practice together. Our small church community is uniquely caring, simple, laid-back, and intergenerational. Hard Conversations: We Choose To Accept The Already & Not Yet (Week 6, John 4)
On March 8, Pastor Jeff concluded our Hard Conversations series with a sermon titled “We Choose to Accept the Already and Not Yet (Affirmation 5).” In this message, he reflects on the tension that often exists in the Christian life—between what God has already begun through Jesus and what has not yet been fully completed—and how that plays in our unresolved conversations. Drawing from Scripture and the lived experience of the church, Jeff explores how followers of Jesus are called to live faithfully within this tension. The kingdom of God has already broken into the world through Christ, yet we still experience brokenness, conflict, and unfinished work in our lives and communities. Rather than pretending everything is resolved or giving in to discouragement, the church is invited to embrace the reality of both. The sermon highlights how accepting the “already and not yet” shapes the way we navigate hard conversations. It calls believers to practice patience, humility, and hope—recognizing that people, churches, and even our own hearts are still being formed by God. When we remember that redemption is both present and unfolding, we can approach disagreements with grace, hold conviction without hostility, and continue walking together toward the fullness of God’s kingdom. The central affirmation of this final message is simple: faithful followers of Jesus learn to live in the tension of the already and not yet, trusting that God is still at work.River Corner Church is a growing church community in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, committed to worshiping God, following Jesus, and walking through life together. Hard Conversations: We Find Our Identity in Christ (Week 5, Galatians 2)
On March 1, Pastor Jeff preached from Galatians 2:11–20 in his sermon, "Hard Conversations: We Find Our Identity in Christ (Affirmation 4)," examining Paul’s public confrontation with Peter and what it means to anchor our identity in Christ amid emotionally charged conflict. The message explored how fear, people-pleasing, and tribal loyalty can fracture unity when the gospel itself is at stake. In this sermon, Jeff walks through Paul’s rebuke of Peter in Antioch and the deeper issue behind it: when belonging becomes more important than grace, the gospel is distorted. He highlights how Peter’s withdrawal from Gentile believers signaled division, how Paul stepped into a hard conversation for the sake of those caught in the crossfire, and how Galatians 2:20 reframes identity in terms of union with Christ. The central affirmation is this: we find our identity in Christ, not in our belief systems, tribes, or need for approval. The sermon challenges listeners to confront fear-driven compromise, resist people-pleasing, and root their worth so deeply in Jesus that they can contend for truth without losing love.River Corner Church is a growing church community in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, committed to worshiping God, following Jesus, and walking through life together. Hard Conversations: The Spirit Can Create Unity (Week 4, Acts 15)
On February 22, Pastor Jeff looked at Acts 15 in his sermon, Hard Conversations: The Spirit Can Create Unity (Affirmation 3), exploring the first major church conflict in Jerusalem and how the Holy Spirit brought clarity and unity amid deep division. The message focused on what it means to trust the Spirit when conversations are tense, and the stakes feel high.In this sermon, Jeff walks through the Jerusalem Council and the debate over whether Gentile believers had to adopt Jewish law to be saved. He shows how the early church faced sharp disagreement, cultural tension, and theological conflict—but chose slow, shared discernment rather than reaction and division. Through Peter’s testimony, James’ scriptural grounding, and the unified decision of the elders, we see a model for handling hard conversations today. The central affirmation is clear: the Spirit can create unity where it once seemed impossible. The sermon challenges listeners to resist turning personal conviction into universal law, to remain humble enough to be corrected, and to depend on the Holy Spirit rather than on outrage, pride, or the need to win.River Corner Church is a growing church community in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, committed to worshiping God, following Jesus, and walking through life together. When Waiting Feels Like Abandonment: A Word of Encouragement (Luke 8:40-50)
This sermon explores Luke 8:40–50, the story of Jesus, Jairus, and the woman who reached out in faith while waiting for healing. In this passage, we see how Jesus responds to interruption, models encouragement, and invites trust in moments of delay and uncertainty. This message reflects on faith, waiting on God, and how the Lord’s Prayer-shaped life calls us to encourage one another toward Jesus (Hebrews 10:24). A Year of Encouragement (Hebrews 10:19–25)
On January 4, Pastor Jeff McLain opened River Corner Church’s 2026 theme, A Year of Encouragement, by teaching from Hebrews 10:24–25. This message frames encouragement not as affirmation that avoids tension, but as faithful community life that engages friction in ways that lead to love, perseverance, and good works. In this sermon, Pastor Jeff explores how biblical encouragement differs from cultural encouragement. Rooted in Hebrews 10, he calls the church to a shared, intentional practice of spurring one another toward Christ through five embodied commitments: praying for one another with open eyes, listening carefully to one another’s lives, offering care through presence and touch, acting in ways that spread the fragrance of life, and inviting others to taste goodness at our tables. Together, these commitments form a practical vision for mutual encouragement that sustains faith, deepens love, and shapes a resilient Christian community.About River Corner ChurchRiver Corner Church is a simple community of Jesus followers rooted in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. A Journey With the Shepherds: God Is For Us (Joy Has Come) [Advent Week 3]
On December 21, Pastor Jeff McLain continued our Advent series, Journey with the Shepherds, with Week 3: “God Is for Us (Joy Has Come)”, exploring joy not as a fleeting emotion but as a rooted reality flowing from God’s favor. In a world where joy is often chased, manufactured, or lost as quickly as it’s found, the Christmas story offers a deeper truth. Joy emerges not when life becomes easier, but when we discover that God is truly for us. Joy is knowing Jesus. Through the shepherds’ encounter in Luke 2, we see that joy is born in the midst of ordinary life, long waiting, and risky obedience.Sermon Summary: Centered on Luke 2:15–18, this message follows the shepherds as they move from hearing God’s word to stepping into God’s promise. Their journey reveals how joy grows in community, is sustained by remembering God’s promises, is strengthened through faithful risk, and overflows as good news shared with others. Pastor Jeff connects this moment to the fulfillment of ancient prophecies, reminding us that God keeps His promises—sometimes after long seasons of waiting, sometimes immediately—but always faithfully. This message highlights a central Advent truth: God’s favor rests on the humble. Joy is not earned or manufactured; it is discovered when we receive God’s grace, trust His word, and step forward in obedience.Practical Application: How do we live into this joy? Pastor Jeff invites us to respond in four ways: Journey Together in Community, Remember What God Has Spoken, Take Faithful Steps of Obedience, and Share What God Is Doing.Passage: Luke 2:15–18 (NIV)Send us Fan MailSupport the show

On December 7, Pastor Jeff McLain kicked off our Advent series, "God Has Come (Hope Has Returned)," exploring the true, lasting hope of the Christmas season. In a world longing for light, we often chase temporary fixes—like the beautiful, fleeting glow of holiday lights. But the Advent story invites us into a deeper reality: God breaking into human history to bring a permanent light that transforms us.Sermon Summary: This message, based on Luke 2:1-12, centers on the extraordinary moment God chose the ordinary and the overlooked. We follow the stories of Elizabeth, Mary, Joseph, and especially the shepherds—the unseen people God chose first—to discover what it means to be attentive to God's presence. We'll unpack the core truth of Advent: God has come to the desperate, the sick, and the unseen. Learn why the shepherds' humble encounter with the glory of the Lord is a sign that God is still breaking into your story today. This message reminds us that the Messiah's arrival fulfills ancient promises, bringing a light and hope that cannot be extinguished.Practical Application: How do we live with open eyes and open hearts? Pastor Jeff shares three practical responses to walk in this transformative light: Practice Watchfulness, Cultivate Reverence, and Share Joy.Passage: Luke 2:1-12 (NIV)Send us Fan MailSupport the show

The Holy Work of Storms (Mark 4:35-41)
Discover how the storms in your life can become the resistance you need to grow your faith, just like the mighty albatross uses wind to soar. Join Pastor Jeff McLain as he explores Mark 4:35-41 on November 30th, 2025, revealing that every storm is a holy work designed to deepen your dependence on Jesus and reveal His complete authority. In this sermon, "The Holy Work of Storms," Pastor Jeff McLain of River Corner Church offers a unique perspective on adversity, contrasting the disciples' fear during a squall on the Sea of Galilee with the albatross's inherent ability to soar through storms. Drawing on Mark 4:35-41, this message challenges the notion of seeking a storm-free life, arguing that moments of crisis—whether financial, health-related, or spiritual—are divine opportunities. The sermon explains that storms expose our self-reliance, compel us to turn to Jesus, and ultimately serve as the necessary resistance that launches us into deeper faith, reminding us that only Jesus can command, "Quiet! Be still!"About River Corner ChurchRiver Corner Church is a simple community of Jesus-followers located in East Petersburg, PA, committed to shared listening and participating in God's work together. As a hodge-podge community, we value slowing down our normal rhythms, particularly on Fifth Sundays, to make space for authentic connection and collective growth as we hear God's voice through Scripture, prayer, and one another. Our mission is to live out the way of Jesus by growing in faith, purpose, and belonging, and recognizing that following Him is a sacred journey, even when it leads us into uncomfortable or "stormy" seasons.Send us Fan MailSupport the show

Commitment to Being a Disciple and a Disciplemaker | 8 Commitments Series (Week 8)
In this message from River Corner Church, Pastor Jeff McLain explores Matthew 28:16–20 and the eighth of our eight church commitments—a commitment to grow as disciples and invest in others as disciplemakers.Drawing from the Great Commission and the rabbinic apprenticeship model of Jesus, Jeff reflects on what it means to be a community that not only learns the ways, words, and works of Jesus, but intentionally passes them on. Like Bob Buford’s image of “my fruit grows on other people’s trees,” Matthew’s ending reminds us that the baton has been handed to us. Jesus calls ordinary people to become disciplers—those who pour their lives into others so that faith multiplies.Mountaintop moments with Jesus are never meant to stay on the mountain. They send us out. And as we go, teach, and baptize, we do so with His presence and authority: “I am with you always.”Scripture: Matthew 28:16–20 Series: 8 Commitments – Week 8 Message: Commitment to Being a Disciple and a Disciplemaker Speaker: Pastor Jeff McLain Date: November 16, 2025If this message encourages you, please like, share, and subscribe for more sermons and reflections.Send us Fan MailSupport the show

Commitment to Live Honorably and Accountability to Each Other | 8 Commitments Series (Week 7)
In this message from River Corner Church, Pastor Jeff McLain explores Romans 12:9–21 and the seventh of our eight church commitments—a commitment to live honorably and remain accountable to one another.Drawing from Michael Youssef’s The Prayer That God Answers, Jeff reflects on what it means to be a community “bought by the blood of Christ” and bound together through mutual encouragement, accountability, and prayerful support.Like the image of an old Amish barn raising, Paul’s words remind us that church is not about getting ahead, but getting together. We are called to be people of sincere love, honor, and humility—lifting each other up, rooting out envy, and reflecting the transforming grace of Christ’s kingdom.Scripture: Romans 12:9–21 Series: 8 Commitments – Week 7 Message: Committed to Live Honorably and Accountable to Each Other Speaker: Pastor Jeff McLain Date: November 9, 2025If this message encourages you, please like, share, and subscribe for more sermons and reflections.About River Corner Church River Corner Church is a simple community of Jesus followers rooted in Scripture, prayer, and life together. Committed to Participation in God’s Mission | 8 Commitments Series (Week 6)
In this message from River Corner Church, Pastor Jeff McLain explores Colossians 4:2–6 and the sixth of our eight church commitments—faithful participation in God’s mission. The church doesn’t exist merely to gather, but to be shaped and sent. Worship together forms hearts for everyday faithfulness in the places we live, work, and play.Jeff reminds us that Paul’s words to the church in Colossae call believers to prayer, perception, and proclamation—to live wisely toward outsiders, make the most of every opportunity, and let every word be filled with grace and seasoned with salt. Mission isn’t about strategy or size; it’s about embodying Christ’s light and goodness in daily life.Scripture: Colossians 4:2–6Series: 8 Commitments – Week 6Message: Committed to Everyday FaithfulnessSpeaker: Pastor Jeff McLainIf this message encourages you, please like, share, and subscribe for more sermons and reflections.About River Corner ChurchRiver Corner Church is a simple community of Jesus followers, rooted in Scripture, prayer, and life together. Committed to Gathering Together | 8 Commitments Series (Week 5)
In this message from River Corner Church, Pastor Jeff McLain explores Hebrews 10:19–25 and the fifth of our eight church commitments—presence and participation through regular gathering. Church isn’t about control, counting, or convincing; it’s about diatribō—letting Christ wear off on us as we regularly gather in community and are formed together for God’s kingdom. Jeff reminds us that when we meet, we practice our eschatological hope—a preview of the day we will be gathered to Christ. The Church We Build Together | 8 Commitments Series (Week 4)
On October 19 at River Corner Church, Pastor Jeff McLain continued our “8 Commitments” series with “The Church We Build Together,” drawn from Colossians 3:1–17.In this message, Pastor Jeff reminded us that the church isn’t something we attend—it’s something we build together. Drawing from Paul’s vision in Colossians, we were challenged to invest who we are—our time, gifts, and hearts—into the church’s worship, community, and mission. When Christ’s peace rules our hearts and His word dwells richly among us, our shared life becomes the overflow of His presence. The church becomes not a business or a program, but a family shaped by love, gratitude, and the work of the Holy Spirit.Scripture: Colossians 3:1–17Series: 8 Commitments – Week 4Message: The Church We Build TogetherSpeaker: Pastor Jeff McLainIf this message encourages you, please like, share, and subscribe for more sermons and reflections.About River Corner ChurchRiver Corner Church is a simple community of Jesus followers, rooted in Scripture, prayer, and life together. Committed to A Shared Statement of Faith | 8 Commitments Series (Week 3)
On October 12, at River Corner Church, Pastor Jeff continued our “8 Commitments” series with “Committed to A Shared Statement of Faith,” drawn from 1 Timothy 4:1–16.In this message, Pastor Jeff McLain reminded us that good doctrine keeps us anchored when the waves of culture crash against us. Drawing from Paul’s words to Timothy, we were challenged to “train ourselves to be godly,” recognizing that faith, like fitness, requires practice, discipline, and perseverance. Doctrine is not about winning arguments but about shaping our lives and keeping the church healthy and strong. As a community, we are called to stay rooted in Scripture, accountable to one another, and centered on the teachings of Jesus—so that when the world swells with confusion, we remain grounded in truth and grace.About River Corner ChurchRiver Corner Church is a simple community of Jesus followers, rooted in Scripture, prayer, and life together. On October 5, at River Corner Church, Pastor Jeff continued our "8 Commitments" series with "A Local Community of Trust and Commitment" from Philippians 2.In examining Philippians 2, we see how Paul calls the church to a shared humility and unity modeled after Christ Himself. Pastor Jeff reminded us that trust is the foundation of all meaningful relationships and that membership at River Corner Church is not about status but about linking arms in a hard-won unity and a costly holiness. As we follow Jesus together, we build a community marked by integrity, humility, and love—a trusted family of faith where we can grow, serve, and shine like stars in the world.About River Corner ChurchRiver Corner Church is a simple community of Jesus followers, rooted in Scripture, prayer, and life together. Following Jesus Wholeheartedly and Personally | 8 Commitments Series (Week 1)
On September 28, we began our 8 Commitments series by exploring the first: following Jesus wholeheartedly and personally in community. On September 28, River Corner Church launched our new sermon series, 8 Commitments. In this first message, Pastor Jeff McLain explores what it means to follow Jesus wholeheartedly and personally. Drawing from Ephesians 4 and other passages, he reminds us that discipleship is never meant to be lived in isolation. Our faith is strengthened in community, as each believer’s personal “yes” to Jesus joins together to form the body of Christ. This foundational commitment becomes the root from which all others grow, shaping us into a church that reflects unity, maturity, and the love of Christ.About River Corner ChurchRiver Corner Church is a simple community of Jesus followers, rooted in Scripture, prayer, and life together. Right Here, Right Now (1 Corinthians 7:15-24)
On September 15, Pastor Jeff McLain spoke at River Corner Church on Right Here, Right Now from 1 Corinthians 7:15–24. In this message, Jeff reminded us that faithfulness to Christ doesn’t require a bigger stage, a different role, or a new situation. Instead, Paul’s command to the Corinthians — and to all the churches — is to live as believers right here, right now, in the circumstances God has already assigned to us.Drawing from Paul’s own example of ordinary faithfulness — mentoring, tentmaking, writing letters, and walking alongside people in daily life — Jeff encouraged us to see our families, neighborhoods, workplaces, and friendships as our mission fields. He challenged us not to chase busyness, platforms, or status, but to recognize that God has already placed value on our lives through Christ, and He longs to bring value through us wherever we are.The call of the gospel is not to “be your best self” or stay as you are, but to be surrendered, formed, and active for Jesus right here, right now.About River Corner ChurchRiver Corner Church is a simple community of Jesus followers, rooted in Scripture, prayer, and life together. The Two Towers (Psalm 91 & 2 Corinthians 10:1–5)
On September 7, 2025, at River Corner Church, Kevin Bradford began by drawing from The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, noting that towers symbolize both safety and authority but can also represent false strongholds. He connected this imagery to Psalm 91, where God is described as a tower of refuge, a place of protection and peace for those who dwell in HimThe sermon unpacked how Psalm 91 promises God’s covering, yet Christians still face suffering. Kevin explained that Satan misused Psalm 91 in Jesus’ temptation (Matthew 4), trying to reduce God to a formula. Jesus responded by affirming trust in God even amid trials. Bradford emphasized that God sometimes delivers us from suffering and other times sustains us through it, with ultimate healing guaranteed in eternity. He then contrasted two “towers”:One built on truth about God, producing peace, trust, and resilience. One built on lies and false strongholds, which take root in our thoughts and distort our outlook.Drawing from 2 Corinthians 10:1–5, Kevin highlighted the need to “demolish strongholds” by taking every thought captive to Christ. He noted that thoughts come from ourselves, culture, or spiritual influences, and if left unchecked, they can create negative strongholds. Conversely, setting our minds on God builds life-giving strongholds of trust and faithMessage September 7, 2025.Practical applications included:Recognizing thoughts as random and refusing to let harmful ones take root.Setting minds on Christ through prayer, Scripture, and community (Colossians 3:1–11).Allowing God, not self-reliance, to form and sustain us.Kevin concluded by reminding the congregation that when life’s assaults come, Christians are called to run to God rather than away from Him, finding shelter in the Most High and security in His presence.Who we are together.River Corner Church is a growing church community of everyday people who gather to worship God, follow Jesus, and journey through life together. What we practice together. Our small church community is uniquely caring, simple, laid-back, and intergenerational.
