Roots to Routes with Anand Dattani
by Anand Dattani
This podcast brings you conversations that connect generations - past, present, and future. Through culture, wisdom, and legacy storytelling, I’m here to capture what matters over the long-term: identity, intergenerational lessons, and the kind of wisdom and advice that usually gets passed down in-person but is now too often being missed in an increasingly disconnected world. Each episode features a guest who’s become known in their niche, and we explore how their previous generation(s) have played a role in taking them to who and where they are today.

Arjun Sofat on Discipline, Isolation & The Family Lessons That Helped Build Free Soul
In this deeply personal and revealing conversation, Anand speaks with Arjun Sofat, Co‑Founder & CEO of Free Soul, about the deeper influences that shaped his entrepeneurship journey to building a global women's wellness brand. We explore the lessons inherited from his parents and grandparents, leaving the safety of investment banking after years of 100‑hour weeks, how early influences forged his obsession with positive impact, and why the ultimate blessing is finding work you are willing to dedicated your life to. Arjun shares the mindset and reframes that helped him push through the early days of no revenue, rejection, and being literally laughed out of an investor meeting. The episode also dives into: How to deal with the lonely chapter of entrepreneurship. Why discipline is less about motivation and more about endurance How FreeSoul’s Designed By Her philosophy puts women at the centre of product creation The emotional impact of hearing customers’ stories - from PMDD improvements to fertility breakthroughs The influence of Ayurvedic “grandma’s remedies” and how traditional wisdom meets modern wellness What Arjun ultimately wants his children to remember about him, and why it has nothing to do with FreeSoul This is a story about identity, culture, sacrifice, purpose, and the unseen roots that shape who we become. Whether you're building something of your own, navigating an identity shift, or reflecting on the values passed down through generations, this episode will leave you thinking long after it ends. The Good and Bad of Coming From A Frugal Culture & How To Live Without Regret w/ Anand Mistry
"life is temporary, it's short, time's running out - even though there might be scepticism about what you're doing, just do it" In Part 1 we focused what Anand Mistry took from his family backstory and upbringing that inspired him along the journey to creating ProjectChakra and what he learnt from his first visit to India. We also got to understand what he gained from his time there that made it obvious what path he knew he had to take, and something that life in a corporate career wouldn’t be able to offer. "happiness is when what you think, say, and do, are in alignment; and projectCHAKRA enables me to action what I think and say" [Anand Mistry] In Part 2, we find out what came next for him following the decision to dive all-in on social entrepreneurship. This is arguably the more important part of the conversation, which includes the valuable lessons YOU will be able learn from if you’re thinking about pursuing anything that you have a special interest or passion for, or are in the process of doing so already. Expect to learn how to deal with the internal and external pushback you’ll inevitably go through when trying something different to the friends and family around you, how to not let perfectionism stop action, what it’s like coming from a culture that’s frugal with their money, aligning your values with your actions, and lots more. Roots to Routes Pod (R2RPod): Behind The Rebrand
If you've listened to the show or are excited of what's to come - I'd love if you could leave a rating and review on the platform you use. This goes an incredibly long way to getting these conversations in the eyes (and ears) of more people who are looking for this kind of content. The bigger the show gets, the bigger the guests get. SUMMARY OF THE REBRAND The podcast was initially named the journey onwards. The aim of the show, which started with with the stories of my dad and his siblings, was to relive the journeys, adventures and lessons learnt from the migration stories of each guest. We explored how these pivotal moments in their life journey had impacted what they stand for and the key messages that they want to journey onwards to future generations through the work that they do and the niche they've become recognised for. Being a child of immigrant parents, I realised how significant the journey they had been through, and the risks they took, had been in shaping my own identity, core values, and the opportunities I've been given in life. So I decided the evolve the podcast to serve as a way for people of my generation, who similarly have grown up in a country and society that's different to their background, to unravel how the journey of their previous generations has had a valuable role to play in where they are and what they stand for today. The show features esteemed guests who are well recognised in their niche, including founders and CEOs, musicians and actors, authors and change makers, and more. The podcast has a mission to make modern history relevant, through highlighting the story of the guest's family Roots, and it's influence on the route the guests have taken. And so, the tagine 'from Roots to routes' was born. ABOUT THIS SHOW
This podcast brings you conversations that connect generations - past, present, and future.
