Danielle Black Lyons is a surfer, artist, mother and co-founder of Textured Waves, a collective aimed at promoting diversity in surfing. Danielle lives in California with her husband and son and surfs daily. Danielle co-founded Textured Waves with several other women in response to a representation issue in surfing. The goal of Textured Waves is to elevate the culture and sport of women's surfing towards women of color and underrepresented demographics through representation, community, and sisterly camaraderie.

Janet Cherobon-Bawcom on Perseverance and Positivity in Running
Janet Cherobon-Bawcom is a former professional runner now working as a registered nurse and a running coach. She lives and works close to the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Born in Kapsabet Kenya, Janet came to the US on an athletic scholarship, before becoming a decorated professional runner. Janet has run in multiple Olympic Trials (including the most recent US 2020 marathon trials in Atlanta), and represented the US at the 2012 Olympics, placing 12th in the 10000m. She has a half marathon PR of 1:09:55 and a marathon best of 2:29:45, among other impressive running credentials.

Ajeé Wilson on Humility and Enduring in Professional Running
Ajeé Wilson is a professional middle distance runner, running for Adidas and the Juventus Track Club in Philadelphia. She is a 2016 Olympian, 2021 hopeful and a multiple-time American Record holder. Ajeé turned Pro out of high school, foregoing the traditional NCAA path, forging her own way whilst still gaining a college degree. Alli Penovich on Freediving and Spearfishing
Alli Penovich is a freediver based out of Florida, competing in the disciplines of freediving and spearfishing. She is sponsored by Amavara, Cobian and Florida Freedivers. Peyton Thomas on Changing the World Through Running and Marine Biology
Peyton Thomas is an elite runner and PhD student in Marine Biology at the University of Northern Carolina Wilmington. She ran a PR of 2:42:54 to place 78th at the US 2020 Olympic Marathon trials, and was the only American born black female to start. She qualified for the trials at CIM, which was her first road marathon. She has also run the Bigfoot 40 miler, a sister race to the Bigfoot 200 miler.

Soul Sister Sessions with Dr. Madeline Manning Mims
This is a special episode of Soul Sister Sessions. Abbey and Julia are joined by Dr. Madeline Manning Mims. Madeline is in a class of her own. She has a storied career that remains far from over. She is a decorated multi-time Olympian, and held multiple World and American Records. At the 1968 Olympics, she became the first American Woman to win a gold medal in the 800m, which was the at the time, the longest distance women were allowed to race. She held a World Record in High School, and had an impressive career as an athlete, which was unprecedented at that time. Madeline is an equally talented gospel singer, author and speaker, as well as the founder of the United States Centre for Sports Chaplaincy. Madeline has been present at every Olympiad as a chaplain since she stopped attending as a competing athlete, and serves as a mentor for chaplains and athletes alike. Madeline is eloquent, talented, driven and has such wisdom from her diverse experiences breaking through barriers across the board. This conversation is all Madeline, and is one of the most powerful conversations on ROO to date.

Kayla Nolan on Leading Girls Gotta Run Foundation
Kayla Nolan is a runner and the Executive Director of the Girls Gotta Run Foundation (GGRF). Girls Gotta Run Foundation is a non-profit organization that invests in girl changemakers in Ethiopia through an academic and athletic scholarship program. Kayla started running in high school as part of a coping mechanism, and later joined the Cross Country team after encouragement from another high school girl who had seen her running alone.. Kayla’s love for running grew, and she was presented with an opportunity to study running after gaining a research scholarship in college. After Kenya was ruled out due to political violence, she had a choice between Jamaica or Ethiopia. Feeling she would relate better to Ethiopia’s endurance runners, she took the first step in a journey that would evolve into so much more.

Hilary McCloy on Evolving as an Athlete

Courtney Dauwalter on Embracing the Pain Cave
Courtney Dauwalter is a professional trail runner for Salomon, living in Golden Colorado. She won the Western States 100 in 2018, the 2019 Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB), as well as having wins at multiple races and distances worldwide. She has represented the USA at the 24 Hour World Championship, and is a former American Record holder in the 24 hour event. Just after this interview was recorded, Courtney was named Ultrarunning Magazines #1 Ultra Runner of the Year (UROY) for 2019, for the second year in a row. Courtney is a teacher, but has taken an indefinite sabbatical to pursue running full-time.

Clare Gallagher & Abby Levene on Activism, Trail Running, and a Decade-long Friendship
Clare Gallagher and Abby Levene have been best friends for a decade, are professional trail runners living in Boulder Colorado, and activists. Clare is a Patagonia athlete and works for Patagonia doing advocacy work. She has won the prestigious Leadville 100, CCC (101km sister race of the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc) and was the 2019 Western States 100 winner, where she ran the second fastest female time in race history. Days after this podcast was recorded, Clare was announced and awarded the #2 Female UROY (Ultra-runner Magazines Ultra Runner of the Year award) for 2019. Abby is a former national champion professional triathlete, who took up ultra trail running after stepping away from triathlon. She now runs for Adidas and works as a writer. Most recently, Abby placed 5th in the deeply competitive North Face Endurance Challenge 50 Mile race in San Francisco. Clare and Abby bring high energy and candidness to this episode, which really highlights their friendship.
