Sailor Moon Cosmic Power Rewind

We’re revisiting Sailor Moon R Episode 27 and Chibiusa is testing EVERY ounce of our patience. We really enjoyed this episode, especially as Rubeus makes his desperate move and the Black Moon story starts racing toward its conclusion, but stealing Usagi’s brooch leads to some seriously painful consequences. Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus put everything on the line to protect Chibiusa, only to be abducted by Rubeus and dragged aboard his UFO while Usagi is left completely helpless. And somehow Mamoru nearly earns a spot right beside Chibiusa on our frustration list after basically letting a child escape out a window. We’re talking about the Guardians’ sacrifice, Usagi’s reaction, Chibiusa’s choices, and why this cliffhanger has us VERY ready to see how the Rubeus arc wraps up. This one felt HUGE. The penultimate chapter of the Rubeus saga cranks up the intensity almost immediately. Petz and Calaveras come in swinging, Chibi-usa finally discovers that Usagi and the girls are the Sailor Guardians, and suddenly one of the biggest secrets of the season is out in the open. Then there’s Sailor Planet Power! Seeing the Guardians combine their strength against the dimensional tear is exactly the kind of massive magical team-up moment we love from Sailor Moon, and it made the whole episode feel genuinely epic. We’re giving Ami the spotlight in this episode as we revisit Sailor Moon R Episode 25, “For Friendship: Ami vs. Berthier,” and yeah, we loved this one. This episode gives Sailor Mars the spotlight she deserves. Rei and Koan’s fire-powered showdown is thrilling, but what really makes the episode work for us is everything it reveals about Rei. She can absolutely be a hothead, pun not intended, but underneath that fire is someone who believes deeply in love, loyalty, and protecting the people she cares about. We’re revisiting Sailor Moon R 2x23, “Awaken the Sleeping Beauty: Mamoru’s Distress,” an episode where Mamoru continues making the breakup way harder than it needs to be. Our Sailor Moon R rewatch podcast reaches “Protect Chibi-Usa: Clash of the Ten Warriors,” and Chibiusa is seriously winning us over. Watching Usagi and the Sailor Guardians race to protect her from Rubeus and all four Spectre Sisters turns into an incredible magical girl showdown, but it’s the sweeter moments that really got us. Chibiusa finally realizes that Sailor Moon is someone she can trust, while Wiseman discovers the connection between Usagi and Neo-Queen Serenity. We may have already known that Usagi is Chibiusa’s future mom, but seeing that relationship begin to take shape still blew our minds, especially with the mystery surrounding why future Usagi appears to be sick, unconscious, or possibly even dead.
