Jesus encourages those who put their faith in him to follow Paul’s example in lifelong spiritual growth. Surprisingly, the reasons we are given aren’t so much about us and the personal benefits of a growing faith. The reasons we have to grow are all about our God and about those who need him. In Christ We Live Our Family Callings – Ephesians 5:21-6:4 – While we might have our ideas of what a perfect family might look like, God here tells us what the perfect family looks like. Can such a flawless design work for families as flawed as ours? Only with Christ in the family picture! Two additional readings that pair well with these verses are Genes 2:18-25 and Mark 10:2-16

All Things Are Possible with God – Mark 10:17-27 – Left on our own with no help, it is impossible for us to get to heaven. But, with God all things are possible especially forgiveness, and especially peace. Two additional readings that pair well with these verses are 2 Kings 5:14-27 and Hebrews 4:12-13.

The world has fallen into sin, but God continues to give us gifts. Some of the gifts that God gives us after the fall are repentance and forgiveness. Two additional readings that pair well with these verses are Revelation 20:1-6 and Mark 3:20-35.

Jesus prayed, “Father, glorify your name!” The Father has glorified his name in Christ’s death, and he will glorify it again in our lives. Two additional readings that pair well with these verses are Isaiah 43:1-7 and Hebrews 5:7-9.

God doesn’t think of greatness like most people do. He sees greatness not in pride and arrogance, but in humble service. Two additional readings that pair well with these verses are Numbers 12:1-15 and James 3:13-18.

In times of distress and in times of grief we turn to Christ because we know of his compassion and because he has given us a new perspective on death. Two additional readings that pair well with these verses are Lamentations 3:22-33 and 2 Corinthians 4:7-15.

God gives us gifts with a purpose. Some intentional gifts from our Ascended Lord are grace and growth. Two additional readings that pair well with these verses are Acts 1:1-11 and Luke 24:44-53.

Romans 5:1-11 – A heart full of God’s love is personified by peace and proved in suffering. Two additional readings that pair well with these verses are Job 1:13-22 and Mark 8:31-38.

Revelation 7:9-17 – Amen! Amen is a word used in the Bible to express that something is most certainly true. It is most certainly true that as Christians our tribulation is temporary, and our celebration is eternal. Two additional readings that pair well with these verses are 1 John 3:1-3 and Matthew 5:1-12.
