YW Girls Camp: Tips from a Therapist, PART 1
If we want girls to branch out, make new friends, and have meaningful experiences at Girls Camp, let's help them feel secure enough to do so. In this first episode of a multi-part series on Girls Camp, I'm sharing insights from my experiences as a psychotherapist, community mental health adolescent teacher, therapist working with teens, and mom of two awesome teenagers. We'll explore how thoughtful watchcare can help girls feel safe, seen, and supported—and create the security they need to stretch outside their comfort zones. This episode builds on an Instagram series I shared this summer. Follow @settledwithin to check it out and find more ideas for supporting today's teens. When You Can't Pull The Bus Over
What do you do when you're overwhelmed by an emotion but can't simply make it stop? In this episode, we explore acceptance, present-moment awareness, and the wisdom of the Serenity Prayer as practical ways to navigate emotions that seem to take over. You'll learn how to notice what is happening without immediately trying to fix it, reconnect with your senses, and make space for difficult emotions while choosing your next step (STOP Practice). Because resilience isn't about getting out of challenging emotions, but learning to work with them. STOP Practice: Stop, Take a breath, Observe and detangle (sensations, emotions, thoughts, situation), Proceed mindfully (with awareness and compassion)

Stop Being Dragged Around By Your Emotions
Have you ever felt like your emotions are in the driver's seat, determining what you say, how you respond, or what you do next? In this episode of Settled Within, we explore how to acknowledge and understand your emotions without letting them make your decisions. Using the metaphor of a bus driver and therapy-informed approaches, we'll explore how to create space between what you feel and how you respond so you can make choices from wisdom rather than emotional impulses. Your emotions have something to tell you, but you don't have to let them take the wheel. Learning to notice, understand, and respond to your emotions with intention can help you move through life with greater clarity and choice. In this first episode of Settled Within, you'll discover what it means to become settled within the unsettled—cultivating an inner steadiness that remains even when life feels uncertain, stressful, or overwhelming.
