He was known as the Gilgo Beach serial killer. On April 8, 2026, Rex Heuermann pleaded guilty to killing seven women between 1993 and 2011. They are Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Amber Costello, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Sandra Costilla, Jessica Taylor, and Valerie Mack. Heuermann also admitted guilt in the killing of an eighth victim, Karen Vergata.We are here to discuss this case, including an odd New York Times piece by Ginia Bellafante in which she reflects on how she and her friend, the actress Amy Ryan, knew Rex Heuermann. Shannon O'Connor, also known as the Los Gatos 'Party Mom,' was just convicted in March, 2026, on 58 of 63 charges, including child endangerment, sexual battery, and furnishing alcohol to minors. The crimes occurred mostly during the Covid pandemic, when kids in her wealthy San Francisco Bay Area town were isolated at home. O'Connor was accused of hosting parties, providing teens with excessive alcohol and drugs, and pressuring them into sexual activity while they were intoxicated. It's the latest in a long line of adult predators preying on teens. It also raises questions about teen drinking and their parents' roles. In this special episode, we're discussing Sara Jane Moore. In 1975, inspired by Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme of the Manson Family, Moore fired a shot at President Gerald Ford in San Francisco. Decades later, finally out of prison, she met a man on eHarmony and they soon married. We wanted to explore both of these events. University of Florida students Sonja Larson, Christina Powell, Manuel Taboada, and Tracy Inez Paules, as well as Santa Fe College student Christa Hoyt, were all brutally murdered in August 1990. The killer, who came to be known as the Gainesville Ripper, was caught and convicted. Gisèle Pelicot is a feminist icon. The French woman was drugged and raped by her husband and dozens of men he invited into their home over the span of 10 years. In the ensuing trial, Pelicot bravely waived her right to anonymity and focused the shame on the men. She became a powerful advocate for sexual assault survivors and we're here to discuss her story.
