Something To Gnaw On

If you have a short attention span, or limited time to dig into a bible study, this might be the devotional podcast for you. The goal is simple: to offer a concise study of the Bible (the target timeframe is 15 minutes) in such a way that people truly gnaw on biblical truth (both mentally and spiritually) throughout their day. And admittedly, the podcast will vary from a bible study in bite size form, to what may look and sound like personal journal entries. Jeremiah 31:34 talks about each of us knowing God firsthand.... it is my hope that this podcast spurs each person deeper in their knowledge OF God, and their experience WITH God. Welcome to Something To Gnaw On!

Episode #8 Insights of Pastoral Significance - Part 2 "The Saul Syndrome" Conclusion

The Saul Syndrome is all about the Christian minister who is a bit like King Saul....   certainly called to ministry but carrying a lot of baggage, ranging from paranoia - depression - anxiety - to some basic behaviors of control and manipulation.   There may be the external persona of success, but behind the scene's the spears get thrown frequently!  This  episode is the second half of the Saul Syndrome, and it addresses some of the remedies for narcisistic pastors.... as well as some suggestions for those who have to work along side them. The next episode will dig into Part 3 "Pauls Keys For Success"https://www.amazon.com/s?k=ed+vainio&crid=2A3B5UHHLLI3O&sprefix=%2Caps%2C412&ref=nb_sb_ss_recent_1_0_recent

Episode #7 Insights of Pastoral Significance - Part 2 'The Saul Syndrome'

This episode starts Part 2 of the book "INSIGHTS OF PASTORAL SIGNIFICANCE" with a look at what we sometimes refer to as the 'dark-side' of ministry...... The Saul Syndrome.  It is important to restate from the introduction that this book was intended for ministers, bible college students and professors, so that these 'dark sides' would not catch them off guard, that they would not be intimidated or manipulated by them.  It is a healing salve for those who have been affected by such Saul-like leadership, not a baseball bat to attack the offender.  Please keep this in mind while listening. It is our prayer that this would bolster the drive of the minister while sharpening his/her wits about such challenging matters.  May God, through His Spirit, guide you step by step through such times!!Insights of Pastoral Significance from Amazon:https://www.amazon.com/Insights-Pastoral-Significance-Ed-Vainio/dp/0557339812/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2UOUXEZAR65C0&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.eDt5-reJemmPWLQ5aROb9wCGgcuh0Fa3Q437OSmON_fGjHj071QN20LucGBJIEps.XJgQLunREkvN_0Z9yGBeHAmcoVn3wWJvGCiSeIi_-4A&dib_tag=se&keywords=ed+vainio&qid=1737659161&sprefix=ed+vainio%2Caps%2C241&sr=8-1

#2 Insights Of Pastoral Significance: Part 1 Peter's Paradigm (A Biblical Model For Pastoral Leadership)

#1 Insights Of Pastoral Significance: Introduction

In a church world where corporate leadership styles and growth techniques run rampant, does it really jive with the biblical model - and more specifically, the instruction that Jesus gave Peter?Listen in on this episode and subsequent episodes as we dive in to "Peter's Paradigm", "The Saul Syndrome", and "Paul's Key's to Success", three studies by my dad, Pastor Ed Vainio, MTh, with regard to the biblical model of shepherding/leading.This is an Audible style presentation of the book he published in 2010 on the matter... and it was truly a labor of love, love for the Lord, love for His Church, and a love and a desire to see those who strive to be Christian leaders succeed in all that God has called them to do.This is the beginning of the series and a simple introduction to the book.Amazon Link:https://www.amazon.com/s?k=ed+vainio+pastoral+significance&crid=NCPGRKR75ZM2&sprefix=ed+vainio+pastoral+significan%2Caps%2C501&ref=nb_sb_noss

The Scenic Route Through Isaiah, Part 4.3, King Ahaz - EXPOSED for who he is

Have you ever met a smug person?  A pious person?  An arrogant person?  or better yet, an arrogant person who has a beautiful way of trying to make themselves look good in the midst of absolute stupidity?   Strange twists of wisdom justify every stupid, or dare I say... evil, act.  Well that's King Ahaz, and the has had plenty of time and opportunity to turn his life around....   and on today's episode God calls him out.Not only that, but we are going to take a few minutes and see how a few Messianic Prophecies are woven into this text as well..... It's truly a beautiful thing!!!   So sit back and enjoy the next few minutes!!!God Bless

The Scenic Route Through Isaiah, Part 4.2, King Ahaz And A Rescue Message, The Hard Part

There was a 4 part message from God to King Ahaz:  Be Careful, Be Quiet, Don't Fear, and Don't lose heart.    In the past two episodes we covered "Be Careful" and addressed the fear and losing heart issues.     This episode tackles the "Be Quiet Statement".   Quite possibly one of the most difficult things for us humanoid's to do!!!This episode starts in Alaska, jumps back in time to Joshua and Jericho, bypasses Isaiah 7 to hit a verse or two in James, at which point in time we will be ready to hit Isaiah 7:4.I think this will be a solid challenge to anyone who takes the time to listen, especially those who want to take their game to the 'next level'.... there is a challenge for you right at the end!!!  (that's not too much of a teaser is it?    I suppose you could jump to the end tho.....   anyhow, enjoy, God Bless!   Nate

The Scenic Route Through The Book Of Isaiah, Part 2 - King Ahaz and The "High" Places

This episode is the first of a few episodes that involve on of Israel's most notoriously evil kings, and his interaction with Gods man..... Isaiah.  If ever there was a wicked man in leadership, this guy would be on the top of the list.  But that's not the story. The story here is not that it would be easy for anyone to dismiss him and throw him under the proverbial moral bus, .... no, the story is that a Holy and Loving God deals with Ahaz in an incredibly calculated and merciful manner, without diminishing the necessity and use of judgment.  That is the story!  This is the story of a step by step encounter with God, and ultimately I wish Ahaz had responded better, but it certainly highlights a just God.   All that being said, this first episode on Ahaz is simply a background study on his kingdom, and the general moral climate in Judah and Jerusalem.  Call this 'the set-up'!Without question, there are a few challenges this episode, but we will really get into some good stuff next week, the nitty gritty back and forth between Ahaz - Isaiah - and The Almighty. If you want to read ahead for next week, check out  Isaiah 7, 2 Kings 16, & 2 Chronicles 28.Enjoy!   Be challenged!!  And get into the word for yourself!!!"""Get into the Word, and let the Word get into you!"""NOTES:Smithsonian Article on Ahaz https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/cannabis-found-altar-ancient-israeli-shrine-180975016/Armstrong Institute on Biblical Archaeologyhttps://armstronginstitute.org/254-ancient-israelite-cannabis-altar-points-to-king-ahazs-worshipRC SPROUL & Ligonier Ministrieshttps://www.ligonier.org/learn/devotionals/altar-incenseOur main listening sitewww.somethingtognawon.comOur Merch Storehttps://somethingtognawon.myspreadshop.com/Our [email protected] or [email protected]://youtu.be/wQibPSXn3KY?si=RK2WiXaK1GPf1cbHLuke Taylor's You Tube Chanelhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX8ajOxYJ_uvW3tQH1iJ-Fwwww.youtube.com/@CrossReferencesPodcast“UPBEAT – ACCOUSTIC”Used By PermissionMusic by <a href="https://pixabay.com/users/stockaudios-28301327/?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Stockaudios</a> from <a href="https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Pixabay</a>wondered

The Scenic Route Through The Book of Isaiah, Part 1 King Uzziah

After spending weeks on the "Crash Course Through The Old Testament" it's time to take the 'scenic-route' and spend a little time digging into the book of Isaiah.  This will not be a verse by verse, deep dive into the book... it will be more of a drive-by bible study that tackles some of the more major themes that weave their way through the book. This episode begins by looking at the relationships, and settings that Isaiah is ministering from.  Chapter 1 begins by identifying the kings that Isaiah served under, and so we will begin looking at them to get an idea on what's going on in the kingdom during Isaiah's ministry.  (and one fun element in this episode will be the time we spend digging into some archaeological details that really cause part of this story to come to life!)We will also dig into some of the minor prophets and see how they are interconnected.  And, as always, there will be some solid application that I believe will challenge everyone who takes the time to listen in.... I thoroughly believe it will be a blessing to you!!!BlessingsNateThe Amos Earthquake Linkhttps://armstronginstitute.org/319-amoss-earthquake-a-mountain-of-evidencehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRN27cgOqUU https://penelope.uchicago.edu/josephus/ant-9.html

Gut Level Testimonial, Gut Level Confession, & Gut Level Praise (NOT my normal style podcast)

Backstory:  two days before this episode posted, I had NOTHING ready!   I had plenty in my head, but nothing on paper.   That night in church I sensed God saying ‘let’s do something different.  Instead of something scripted, it’s time to shoot from the hip and just talk about what I have seen, what I have heard, and what I have experienced over the last few years at James River Church.’  ( disclaimer:  I’m just an average member, not  staff member, and I share this if my own volition). So this is what this is about..... a testimony of sorts...... on short notice.I thought I would be able to just share...  But it broke me as I relived just a FEW of the things that have happened over the last couple of years.   It wrecked me.... so please forgive my pauses and my tears, but in the process I pray that this episode will ignite your faith in our God and Father who is mightily at work!!!   God BlessN8ALPHAGAL TESTIMONYhttps://www.honestlyradio.com/?s=god%20healed%20meBrownsville Revival Documentary https://youtu.be/wQibPSXn3KY?si=RK2WiXaK1GPf1cbHGod BlessN8Our main listening sitewww.somethingtognawon.comOur Merch Storehttps://somethingtognawon.myspreadshop.com/Our [email protected] or [email protected]://youtu.be/wQibPSXn3KY?si=RK2WiXaK1GPf1cbHLuke Taylor's You Tube Chanelhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX8ajOxYJ_uvW3tQH1iJ-Fwwww.youtube.com/@CrossReferencesPodcast“UPBEAT – ACCOUSTIC”Used By PermissionMusic by <a href="https://pixabay.com/users/stockaudios-28301327/?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Stockaudios</a> from <a href="https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Pixabay</a>

My conversation with Luke Taylor continues on this episode.  Luke has a podcast called Cross-References, and he has about 50 episodes specifically on the book of Ezekiel.   As has been the case with this entire series, we will be moving pretty fast over some topics, but when the dust settles, I believe you will have a good understanding of it's layout, and also a solid base of hope that is found in the prophets.  Amid the judgements in this book, there is much to be encouraged and uplifted by!!!  Listen in and enjoy the conversation! Our main listening sitewww.somethingtognawon.comOur Merch Storehttps://somethingtognawon.myspreadshop.com/Our [email protected] or [email protected] Taylor's You Tube Chanelhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX8ajOxYJ_uvW3tQH1iJ-Fwwww.youtube.com/@CrossReferencesPodcast“UPBEAT – ACCOUSTIC”Used By PermissionMusic by <a href="https://pixabay.com/users/stockaudios-28301327/?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Stockaudios</a> from <a href="https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Pixabay</a>

I can't tell you right now how many episodes I'll be doing in this book, but this crash course is slowing down to the speed of a slow-motion train wreck as we dig in to what some call the 5th Gospel, or the Mini-Bible.This book is packed with so much.... A Crash Course Through The Old Testament, Part 10 - (an overview of The Prophets)

Uncover the depth of the Old Testament prophets with me, Nate Vainio, as we traverse the themes of judgment and hope that are intricately woven into their divine messages. It's a journey that promises to reshape your understanding of God's holiness and the significance of salvation. The prophets weren't just harbingers of impending doom; they balanced their warnings with promises of restoration and salvation. Through a compelling story of a preacher's quest for awakening his congregation's faith, we explore how contemporary culture often sidesteps the uncomfortable reality of God's justice, choosing instead a cozier but incomplete image of His love. By the end of this episode, you'll see that the toughest divine words are spoken from a place of love, with the purpose of igniting a profound transformation within us.This episode goes beyond just listening; it equips you with practical strategies to elevate your study of the prophetic scriptures. I'll lay out the roadmap for understanding the significance of context, translation, and application when engaging with these ancient texts. By employing tools like timelines and embracing translations such as the NLT and The Message, you'll gain a solid baseline for digging into any of the writings from the Prophets.  And next week we'll use these tools to dig into Isaiah.A TIMELINE OF THE OLD TESTAMENT BOOKShttps://www.divinerevelations.info/bible/bible_timeline/bible_timeline_old_testament_chart_best_of_the_timeline_kings_and_prophet_of_bible_timeline_old_testament_chart.gifHOW TO STUDY THE PROPHETS, Ligonier Ministrieshttps://www.ligonier.org/learn/articles/how-to-read-the-prophetsInsight for Living on ISAIAHhttps://insight.org/resources/bible/the-major-prophets/isaiahOur main listening sitewww.somethingtognawon.comOur Merch Storehttps://somethingtognawon.myspreadshop.com/Our [email protected] or [email protected] Taylor's You Tube Chanelhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX8ajOxYJ_uvW3tQH1iJ-Fwwww.youtube.com/@CrossReferencesPodcast“UPBEAT – ACCOUSTIC”Used By PermissionMusic by <a href="https://pixabay.com/users/stockaudios-28301327/?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Stockaudios</a> from <a href="https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Pixabay</a>

    The Pro's & Con's of a "Don't Care" Attitude

Think back to a moment from your childhood that still stings – for me, Nate Vainio, it was a seemingly trivial reading mishap that echoed far beyond the classroom walls. Join me as I unravel how a burst of laughter at a mispronounced word can shape a 'don't care' shell, designed to shield from vulnerability but often leading to a spiritual disconnect. In today's heartfelt episode, we traverse the shadows of our past to see how God longs for us to take it to Him!As we navigate these waters together, we'll reflect on the poignant story of Ephraim from Jeremiah 31:18-20, where a blend of deep remorse and divine compassion teaches us that hurt has a place in God's plan for restoration, not shame. Pain, though an unwelcome companion, can often be the compass that directs us back to a path of  healing.  I'd challenge you to embrace life's uncomfortable exposures with faith in God's unwavering grace and capacity to what we think of as impossible. Our main listening sitewww.somethingtognawon.comOur Merch Storewww.somethingtognawon.myshopify.comOur [email protected] or [email protected] Taylor's You Tube Chanelhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX8ajOxYJ_uvW3tQH1iJ-Fwwww.youtube.com/@CrossReferencesPodcast“UPBEAT – ACCOUSTIC”Used By PermissionMusic by <a href="https://pixabay.com/users/stockaudios-28301327/?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Stockaudios</a> from <a href="https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Pixabay</a>

Jesus, Auschwitz and the Spiritual Combat of Christmas

Are you prepared to uncover the spiritual significance behind the season of Christmas? This special holiday episode is a break from our recent pursuit of the Old Testament, starting at the opposite end of the book: The Book of Revelation. We bring parallels from two seemingly different realms - one, a brave man who dared to infiltrate Auschwitz to combat the Nazis and the other being Jesus' divine counter-offensive against evil. You'll gain a deeper understanding of the significance of Jesus' birth within the context of spiritual warfare and the devil's relentless attempts to steal, kill, and destroy. In the next part, we converse about the ultimate gift that Christmas presents to us - salvation through Jesus Christ.  And our journey concludes with the words of Jesus from John 14:27, a promise of His unwavering peace that provides us courage and strength to face every possible trial. So, tune in and let this special episode be a source of comfort  and encouragement to you and your loved ones this Christmas season.

A Crash Course Through The Old Testament, Part 6 (Nehemiah)

IT'S FINALLY HERE!!!!!   Ladies and Gent's, this is the last book in section 2 of the Old Testament, the last of the history books.  (and fair warning, there were a ton of trucks driving by the house during recording, so you might hear the sound of our economy at,  wink, wink)Nehemiah is one of those books that everyone has got to read, especially if you  are in any form of leadership - or working on any kind of project - advancement - or simply moving forward in you walk with the Lord.  It highlights the challenges we face in such circumstances and is a great case study in triumph over adversity.  Additionally, it hits key elements regarding what it takes to maintain what is gained in the victory, how to steward God's blessings - God's gifts.Enjoy!!The 1967 Inauguration Speechhttps://www.reaganlibrary.gov/archives/speech/january-5-1967-inaugural-address-public-ceremonyThe Brandenburg Gate Speechhttps://www.reaganlibrary.gov/archives/speech/january-5-1967-inaugural-address-public-ceremonySTOREsomethingtognawon.myshopify.comWebsitesomethingtognawon.comemailsomethingtognawon@gmail.com or [email protected]“UPBEAT – ACCOUSTIC”Used By PermissionMusic by <a href="https://pixabay.com/users/stockaudios-28301327/?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Stockaudios</a> from <a href="https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Pixabay</a>

A Crash Course Through The Old Testament, Part 5 (Esther)

I could not resist!   I needed to take a bit more time with this book.  Did you know that there was a connection between the Book of Esther and World War 2?  I will say it suprised me, but the connection (if you were unaware, like me) is astounding.  At the same time, there is SOOOO  much in this book that is captures my attention..... and there is so much that I didn't even touch on (like most of the books we've covered so far).  Anyhow, I hope this episode piques your curiosity, its an easy book to read, a quick read...... but a book that willl get you digging, and gnawing on scripture.   It is more of a story than a theological proof.God Bless! https://mjrabbinate.org/2018/03/01/the-tetragrammaton-hidden-in-esther/https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/03/07/opinion/nazi-who-had-purim-his-mind/https://famous-trials.com/nuremberg/1898-defendants#StreicherIQ -  https://famous-trials.com/nuremberg/1898-defendants#StreicherThetorah.com/article/purimfest-1946-the-nuremberg-trials-and-the-ten-sons-of-haman STOREsomethingtognawon.myshopify.comWebsitesomethingtognawon.comemailsomethingtognawon@gmail.com or [email protected]“UPBEAT – ACCOUSTIC”Used By PermissionMusic by <a href="https://pixabay.com/users/stockaudios-28301327/?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Stockaudios</a> from <a href="https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Pixabay</a>

What if I told you that some of the most boring parts of the Bible held some of the richest gems?    Ok, I hate that kind of a salesman setup,  but I'll tell you that taking the time to understand the lists that Ezra puts together in these two books will make it come alive!  Additionally, you have to step back a bit to get  to know Ezra and where he fits in the timeline of the Exile to see the value of these two books (or three if you want to divide Chronicles, lol!)What you end up with in this episode is a case study in a legacy being passed successfully.  It isn't exactly pretty, but it's successful!   (and along the way we pick up a little story about a Crow named Joe, wink wink wink!!!)Dave Vainio Sermon (move video ahead to the 40 Minute mark for sermon)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuY7udPDNfo&t=5195ssomethingtognawon.comsomethingtognawon.myshopify.comsomethingtognawon@gmail.com“UPBEAT – ACCOUSTIC”Used By PermissionMusic by <a href="https://pixabay.com/users/stockaudios-28301327/?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Stockaudios</a> from <a href="https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Pixabay</a>

It is amazing how the Bible is woven together, how stories build upon stories to bring clarity to truth.  It is amazing how you can study a topic, and then come back and find pieces of the story you missed the first time around.... and they don't change the meaning, they intensify the clarity and deepen the understanding.  I love this about the bible.Don't let the Bible become an intimidating big book.  This series is intended to give you a framework to process the Old Testament, to digest the truth of God's Word, and to solidify your faith and understanding of God's word.  Blessings!!!The Online Storesomethingtognawon.myshopify.comEmailsomethingtognawon@gmail.comFacebook

G-I A Crash Course Through The Old Testament, Part 2 (Joshua Judges & Ruth)

When you are able to break things down into manageable parts, that "THING" is no longer daunting.   And that's what this series is attempting to do.This week we start into the second section of the Old Testament of the Bible.  The second section is called the History Books, and is comprised of 12 books.   This podcast will address the first three books in a broad sense in this 21 minute episode. What to expect:    The goal here is to set the chronology, so that it is understood when the events in these books happened, and then to look at how they relate to other portions of the bible.   Additionally, this week we will add layer to the mix of looking at proper context to get accurate interpretation and application of scripture.   Lastly, we always see ways in which each of the books of the Old Testament point to Jesus in the New Testament..... and those details are incredibly beautiful (in my opinion)When it's over, the goal would be for listeners to be better equipped and less overwhelmed when reading the Bible, resulting in more people getting into the Scriptures for themselves........ and reaping the benefits thereof!!!!!!!!!BlessingsN8VEMAIL ME AT [email protected] Bellamy Salutehttps://www.cnn.com/2013/12/22/opinion/greene-pledge-of-allegiance-salute/index.htmlhttps://www.centerforbibleengagement.org/researchhttps://bttbfiles.com/web/docs/cbe/Scientific_Evidence_for_the_Power_of_4.pdfhttps://bttbfiles.com/web/docs/cbe/Reading_Plans_and_Bible_Engagement.pdf“UPBEAT – ACCOUSTIC”Used By PermissionMusic by <a href="https://pixabay.com/users/stockaudios-28301327/?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Stockaudios</a> from <a href="https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Pixabay</a>

G-I A Crash Course Through The Old Testament, Part 1 (Genesis to Deuteronomy)

"The Bible is a bit intimidating!  It's big and I have no idea where to start"  "It's confusing"  "It doesn't make sense."  Is that you?In the same way that you would use a map to get the big picture of an area before traveling through, people should get a map of the bible, and look at it from a 'birds-eye' view before diving into any books.    That's what this episode of the Gnaw Initiative  is all about.   It is designed to give a quick look at the books of the Old Testament in such a way that a person can see how they are all interconnected, and all pointing to Jesus Christ in the New Testament.   HOPEFULLY, this will reduce the intimidation factor and give listeners a framework to hang on to the information within its pages.  And if you are a seasoned student of the bible, well..... Additionally, I have some news regarding some new features coming up in year #2!!!!    BLESSINGS!!!!  N8References for this episodeJeremiah 31:33-34John 8, 14, &15 Joshua 1:8“UPBEAT – ACCOUSTIC”Used By PermissionMusic by <a href="https://pixabay.com/users/stockaudios-28301327/?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Stockaudios</a> from <a href="https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Pixabay</a>

Surviving and Thriving Amid the Wreckage (Part 5.1 & 5.2 of the Handling Conflict King David Style)

There is no shortage of sermon series, teachings, or seminars on recovering from hurt, pain, and injustice.  In a word, our society has played to the victim.   We get a phrase called the victim mentality.  And this podcast will not sweep the pain of loss and hurt under the rug.  However, this particular episode addresses the restoration process in David's life, and for those willing to walk down the path, the outcome is freedom from the shame and guilt and the paralyzing nature of having hurt others.  It's not easy, and some would say 'it's not fair', but take a listen and see how God deals with David.   And if you are that person who has hurt people in your past, I hope and pray that you find a divine healing... a divine restoration... and that you find that God still see's you as useful.“UPBEAT – ACCOUSTIC”Used By PermissionMusic by <a href="https://pixabay.com/users/stockaudios-28301327/?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Stockaudios</a> from <a href="https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Pixabay</a>

Sins of the Father (Part 5.0 of the Handling Conflict King David Style)

Maybe this portion should be called, "Not Handling Conflict King David Style", or even "Not Creating Conflict - King David Style".    Humorous clip from the transcript:  (Side Note:  in the third edit of this, the irony hits me…. This is a parable style podcast using a historical story to highlight a biblical story in which the prophet uses a parable story to convey a convicting truth…..   wow!!!! We’re working really hard get to the tough stuff!!!!!)))  As we venture in to the manner in which  David deals with his kids, we first have to deal  with the reasons some of the conflicts arise.   When Paul writes of reaping what you sow (Galatians 6), he could very well have been using David as an illustration.  We will first begin with a quick glance at his affair with Bathsheba, and then take a quick look at an often overlooked passage in Deuteronomy.  Frankly, I've never heard anyone preach or teach on the passage!Anyhow, This part of the of the series will probably have three episodes dealing with his kids.God Bless!!!“UPBEAT – ACCOUSTIC”Used By PermissionMusic by <a href="https://pixabay.com/users/stockaudios-28301327/?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Stockaudios</a> from <a href="https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Pixabay</a>Something To Gnaw On Nate Vainio King David Bathsheba Adultry Uriah the Hittite Murder Reap what you sow Joeseph Kennedy JFK John F Kennedy Bobby Kennedy Robert F Kennedy  Jack Kennedy Kick Kennedy Rose Marie Kennedy  Edward Ted Kennedy Life Faith and Everything Else Cross References Connecting the Gap

Bears and Brothers (A Story About Perspective)

Once again, my buddy (Bobby) is part of another Alaskan adventure where I learned a lot about ....... PERSPECTIVE!   Not just right or wrong perspective, but the fact that whatever our perspective is, it’s  an incomplete depiction of what is really going on in life!   There is so much more to life than what we see at any given moment.    It’s good to have a right perspective, but we’d all be better off getting close to The One who sees it all, and knows it all!!!Additionally, this episode sets the stage for listeners to dive into their own bible-studies of biblical personalities that experienced rapid changes in their perspective of life, but managed to stay on course.... see the show notes below for references regarding  the lives of Joshua, Joseph, David, and PaulJoseph- Genesis 30-50Joshua- you might start with Exodus 17:8  and follow his involvement with Moses……. Then the victory dance starts in the book of JoshuaDavid- 1 Samuel 16 thru 2 SamuelPaul- start with Acts 8 and read to the end of Acts. Check out the webpage www.somethingtognawon.comFeel free to email me at [email protected] me on Facebook by simply searching Something To Gnaw OnPsalm 23 Alaska Bible Study David Joshua Joseph Paul Perspective Campus Crusade for Christ CRU fishing fly fishing trout salmon bear attack “UPBEAT – ACCOUSTIC”Used By PermissionMusic by <a href="https://pixabay.com/users/stockaudios-28301327/?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Stockaudios</a> from <a href="https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Pixabay</a>

    They Stole My Bat, Again!

What heartless punk would steal a kids' bat, and throw him in prison?  Sound unreal??   I assure you it's not.   And unfortunately, it's the front end of a very tough story.Certainly we all have these moments of difficulty, of being treated unjustly, of being injured  - either physically, mentally, or spiritually.    So, how do you bounce back?  How do you handle it?   This weeks episode looks at a passage from Romans, and a character in the book of Genesis for some guidance on the issue of bouncing back from adversity.https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100086779998017www.somethingtognawon.comNorman Mineta9/11George W BushBatJapanese Internment Camp“UPBEAT – ACCOUSTIC”Used By PermissionMusic by <a href="https://pixabay.com/users/stockaudios-28301327/?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Stockaudios</a> from <a href="https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Pixabay</a>

Two Dudes Who Can Fish, But Can't Count (an interview with Danny Mullins)

I had the distinct privilege of sitting down with a long time friend, and brother in Christ, and revisiting some battles won long ago.    It had almost a reunion feeling.  Years ago we walked a path together through pain and frustration, and while we each had our own specific battle to fight..... we both won!In this conversation we revisit those battles, those victories, and new adventures that God has led us on!Danny Mullins Facebook  https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100090773823123Something To Gnaw On FaceBook   https://www.facebook.com/search/top?q=something%20to%20gnaw%20onsomethingtognawon.com“UPBEAT – ACCOUSTIC”Used By PermissionMusic by <a href="https://pixabay.com/users/stockaudios-28301327/?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Stockaudios</a> from <a href="https://pixabay.com//?utm_source=link-attribution&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=music&utm_content=113986">Pixabay</a>

ABOUT THIS SHOW
