95 | The Hidden Power of Contemplation
In an age of constant distraction, noise, and endless activity, the simple act of becoming still has become increasingly rare. Yet throughout the Islamic spiritual tradition, tafakkur—contemplation, reflection, and meditation—has long been regarded as one of the most powerful means of drawing near to Allah Almighty. It is through sincere contemplation that the heart awakens, perception deepens, and the seeker begins to recognize both the subtle workings of the ego and the ever-present reality of the Divine. A famous saying, often attributed to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, states that one hour of contemplation is better than seventy years of voluntary worship. The great Companion Abu al-Dardāʾ (ra) similarly taught that an hour of reflection is better than standing in prayer for an entire night, emphasizing that the true value of worship lies not merely in outward actions, but in the state and orientation of the heart. In this episode, we explore why contemplation has occupied such a central place in the lives of the Prophets, the Companions, and the great scholars and saints of Islam. We examine how awareness serves as the key to spiritual growth, why self-knowledge is indispensable for the purification of the heart, and how daily muhāsabah (self-accounting) enables us to recognize the subtle forms of ego, pride, heedlessness, and hidden attachment that prevent sincere surrender to Allah. We also reflect upon the vital relationship between the outer and inner dimensions of Islam. While the outward forms of worship are essential, they are intended to cultivate an awakened heart that is fully present before its Lord. Without contemplation and reflection, worship can gradually become mechanical, while the ego quietly remains unchallenged beneath the surface. True spiritual transformation occurs when the heart itself begins to worship, receives divine light, and increasingly submits to the will of God. Whether you are just beginning your spiritual journey or have spent years striving upon the path, this episode offers both timeless guidance and practical encouragement to incorporate contemplation into your daily life. By slowing down, becoming present, and turning inward with sincerity, we create the conditions for genuine repentance, deeper faith, and lasting spiritual growth. May Allah Almighty awaken our hearts, increase us in awareness, purify our souls, and draw us ever nearer to Him. Āmīn. Additional Resources The following resources are directly related to this episode and are intended to help you explore these principles more deeply and cultivate a regular practice of contemplation and meditation in your daily life. 94 | The Divine Wisdom in Hardships and Challenges
One of the greatest misconceptions of modern life is the belief that life should be easy. We are constantly sold the idea that happiness is found in comfort, convenience, and the avoidance of difficulty. Yet the reality is that hardship, struggle, and challenge are woven into the very fabric of human existence. The sooner we accept this truth, the sooner we can stop resisting life and begin growing through it. Every challenge we face serves a purpose. Whether our struggles are related to faith, relationships, health, finances, family, or personal growth, they are not random obstacles standing in the way of our success. Rather, they are part of a divine curriculum designed specifically for us. They exist to awaken latent capacities within the heart and soul, to strengthen our character, and to help us become who we were created to be. In this sense, our greatest difficulties often contain the keys to our greatest growth. It is through struggle that we discover ourselves. Human beings do not uncover their true strength in comfort and complacency. We discover who we are in the midst of life’s battles. The Qur’an reminds us that we may dislike something that is good for us and love something that is harmful to us [Holy Qur’an, 2:216]. What we instinctively seek to avoid may in fact be the very thing that leads to our transformation, while the comfort we desire can sometimes become a barrier to our development. Fighting has been prescribed for you, though it is disliked by you. But perhaps you dislike a thing and it is good for you, and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. Allah knows, while you do not know. Surah al-Baqarah, 2:216 This reality points to the importance of awakening the warrior within. The way of the warrior is not about aggression or domination, but about courage, resilience, discipline, and the willingness to confront life’s challenges with wisdom and faith. The greatest struggle is the struggle against the lower self, the ongoing effort to align our hearts, intentions, and actions with truth. This inner battle requires strength, but also intelligence, strategy, patience, and trust in God. Every hardship also presents an opportunity to cultivate and embody the divine attributes that are the key to human evolution and knowing our Lord. A difficult circumstance may be calling us to develop patience, resilience, forgiveness, compassion, wisdom, strength, or forbearance. In learning to respond to life’s challenges in the right way, we come to know our Lord more deeply through the qualities He has revealed and invited us to reflect. The path of spiritual growth requires both surrender and strength, softness and firmness, receptivity and resolve. By embracing rather than resisting our challenges, we transform hardship into a pathway of awakening, self-discovery, and nearness to Allah Almighty. What appears to be an obstacle may, in reality, be a doorway to the very life we were meant to live. Additional Resources The following resources will help you cultivate the strength, resilience, discipline, fortitude, and faith required to awaken the warrior within, overcome life’s challenges, fulfill your divine purpose, and experience greater health, happiness, harmony, and success in both this life and the life to come. 92 | Amin Abdullah’s Prayer Was Answered
Recently, a tragic shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego shook the Muslim community throughout Southern California and beyond. The attack claimed the lives of three men who courageously confronted the assailants in order to protect others within the mosque. Among them was Brother Amin Abdullah, who was serving as the acting security guard at the time of the attack. Through his quick actions and selfless sacrifice, he helped prevent the gunmen from reaching classrooms filled with children and teachers. While the incident is undeniably heartbreaking, it also invites reflection on deeper realities that are often overlooked in moments of grief. Shortly before his passing, Brother Amin shared a message on social media in which he reflected upon the meaning of success. He wrote that true success was not wealth, reputation, or worldly achievement, but rather returning to Allah Almighty with a pure soul and receiving the glad tidings of Paradise. He concluded by praying for husn al-khatimah—the best of endings. In a way that few could have imagined, his prayer was answered. What is success? To many people success is financial stability, good reputation, beauty, etc. As for ME! Wallahi, thumma Wallahi. It is returning back to Allah OUR creator with the same pure soul he loaned me at birth.Having the Malaikah of Allahu ta’ala saying“don’t fear and don’t grieve, but receive the glad tidings of Jannah which you were promised by the Most forgiving and Most Merciful”.May Allahu ta’ala grant us Husnal Khatimah,AAAAMEEEEN Amin Abdullah Islam teaches that martyrdom (shahādah) is among the highest stations a believer can attain. The martyr is not one who seeks death, but one who values truth, justice, faith, and the protection of others more than personal safety. The Qur’an reminds us that those who are slain in the path of Allah are not truly dead, but are alive with their Lord, receiving provision and divine favor. Martyrdom represents the ultimate testimony of faith—a witness to the reality of God and the life to come. The lives and sacrifices of Brothers Amin Abdullah, Mansour Kaziha, and Nadir Awad also remind us of the importance of courage and responsibility within the Muslim community. They acted decisively when confronted with evil, placing themselves between danger and the vulnerable. Their example reflects an often-neglected aspect of the Islamic tradition—the way of the warrior. Islam calls believers to cultivate strength—physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual—not for domination or aggression, but for service, protection, and the defense of what is sacred. The tragedy also highlights broader challenges facing contemporary society. Racism, ethnic supremacy, and increasing social division continue to plague the modern world. Islam offers a powerful alternative vision grounded in the equality of all human beings before God. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ declared in his Farewell Sermon that no race or ethnicity possesses superiority over another except through piety and God-consciousness. Malcolm X (ra) famously concluded after his pilgrimage to Makkah that Islam was uniquely capable of erasing the race problem because it transforms the human heart and dissolves artificial divisions. At the same time, modern materialism has left many people disconnected from meaning, purpose, and spiritual reality. As society becomes increasingly fragmented, violence, confusion, and despair continue to grow. Islam offers another way: a life rooted in remembrance of God, service to others, personal discipline, and preparation for Eternity. The lives of these three martyrs stand as a powerful reminder that true success is not measured by how long we live, but by how we live—and by the state in which we return to our Lord. May Allah Almighty have mercy upon them, elevate their ranks, grant patience and strength to their families, and guide us all toward lives of courage, faith, service, and eternal success. 91 | How We Create Our Own Enemies
The human ego, or nafs, cannot survive without separation, conflict, and opposition. It defines itself through fear, comparison, resentment, and the unconscious need for enemies. As a result, much of the suffering, tension, and division we experience—both personally and collectively—is not simply the product of external circumstances, but the projection of unresolved conflict within ourselves. The lower self creates narratives rooted in pain, trauma, insecurity, and victimhood, then seeks evidence in the world to reinforce those stories. In this way, individuals, communities, and even entire nations can become trapped in cycles of animosity and self-destruction while believing they are pursuing truth, justice, or protection. The spiritual path requires recognizing that the true struggle is not first against others, but against the ego itself. The Holy Qur’an repeatedly describes success as the purification of the self and the remembrance of God, while the teachings of the prophets call humanity towards love, mercy, reflection, and inner transformation. Real faith is not simply ritual performance or outward identity, but rather the cultivation of a heart capable of sincerity, gratitude, compassion, and presence. Love becomes possible only when the barriers created by the lower self begin to dissolve. Until then, human beings unconsciously sabotage relationships, project darkness onto others, and create enemies where none need exist. The purification of the self requires conscious effort, humility, and sustained striving. Through muhasabah (self-accounting), gratitude, surrender, stillness, and remembrance of God, human beings gradually awaken from unconsciousness and begin to transcend the compulsions of fear and negativity. This awakening shifts consciousness away from ego-driven living and towards heart-based awareness rooted in divine light, balance, and harmony. The result is greater clarity, strength, wisdom, and the ability to act without being propelled by hatred, projection, or reactive emotion. Thus, it is the path of spiritual excellence that is ultimately the path of liberation from illusion, from unconsciousness, and from the inner forces that keep us condemned to cycles of conflict. It is towards this goal of peace that Islam seeks to guide to. 90 | On the Defeat of Donald Trump
The unfolding conflict between the United States and Iran offers a sobering example of how decisions driven by ego, miscalculation, and unchecked power can lead to consequences far beyond their original intent. What may be presented as a strategic necessity can quickly devolve into a prolonged and destabilizing engagement—one that disrupts economies, increases global uncertainty, and produces outcomes that run counter to its stated aims. This pattern reflects a deeper reality: when actions are rooted in arrogance rather than wisdom, they tend to expose the limits of human control. A central dynamic at play is what is known as the sunk cost fallacy—the tendency to persist in a failing course of action simply because significant resources have already been committed. At the level of leadership, this often manifests as an unwillingness to admit error, driven by pride and the fear of perceived weakness. Yet in truth, persistence in error only compounds loss. What appears as strength is often a refusal to confront reality, while the ability to pause, reassess, and change course reflects a far greater form of courage and clarity. From a spiritual perspective, this dynamic is not limited to nations or leaders; it is deeply human. We are all prone to error. The question is not whether we will make mistakes, but how we respond when we do. The path forward is not in doubling down, but in turning back—through humility, repentance, and sincere realignment with what is true. Sacred history repeatedly demonstrates that arrogance leads to downfall, while those who humble themselves and correct their course are elevated. Ultimately, the real struggle is not external, but internal. It is the struggle against the ego—the impulse to defend, justify, and persist even when we are wrong. True success lies in overcoming this impulse, in embracing humility, and in returning to God with sincerity. Whether at the level of the individual or the nation, the principle remains the same: to stop when one has gone astray, to turn back, and to realign with truth. In this lies not only resolution in this world, but lasting success in the next.

68 | How to Maintain Momentum and Motivation Beyond Ramadan
After the spiritual intensity and sacred beauty of Ramadan, many of us are left wondering—how do we sustain this light throughout the rest of the year? In this episode, I reflect on the deeper meaning of Ramadan and share four practical commitments to help you carry that divine energy beyond the holy month. Ramadan is more than a month of ritual fasting; it’s a reminder of who we truly are. It reconnects us to God, to our community, and to our higher purpose. But its gifts aren’t meant to fade with Eid. The journey continues. First, continue fasting. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ fasted regularly outside of Ramadan—on Mondays, Thursdays, and during the White Days of each lunar month. Even one day a week can preserve the physical and spiritual benefits we’ve cultivated. Second, keep going to the mosque. The masjid is not just a place of prayer—it’s the heart of the faithful community. Regular presence there nurtures connection, unity, and presence in a world that often pulls us toward distraction. Third, keep learning. Ramadan often inspires us to engage with the Qur’an and sacred knowledge. Let that momentum continue. Whether through traditional scholars or spiritual programs like Awakenings Academy, immerse yourself in environments of remembrance and growth. Finally, awaken in the night. One of Ramadan’s greatest blessings is the sanctity of night worship. Even outside of Ramadan, the last third of the night remains a powerful time for prayer, meditation, and seeking closeness to God. Set aside time before Fajr to reconnect with your soul and your Lord. These four practices—fasting, prayer in congregation, continual learning, and night awakening—are not just means and methods of strengthening faith during Ramadan. They are a path to lasting spiritual growth. May we carry this light throughout the year, and may it lead us closer to the Divine, to our purpose, and to our true selves. Ameen. 67 | Making Religion Real with Jonathan Abdus-Samad
In this episode, I sat down with my friend and brother in faith, Jonathan Abdus-Samad Nadeau, for a deep conversation on what it truly means to make religion real. With Ramadan as our backdrop, we explored how Islam isn’t just about outward practices—praying, fasting, attending lectures—but about embodying surrender on the inside. Without this inner submission, our faith risks becoming hollow, disconnected from its purpose. We spoke about the two dimensions of Islam: the external, which deals with acts of worship, and the internal, which calls us to master the self—our thoughts, emotions, and reactions. As I’ve witnessed time and again, a person can outwardly practice Islam yet still struggle in their personal life if they haven’t developed self-awareness and control. Our conversation centered on this gap and how we can begin to bridge it. Jonathan shared insights from his background in meditation and spiritual practice, emphasizing the difference between knowing something in the mind and embodying it in reality. We often mistake thinking about change for actually changing. True transformation requires stillness, patience, and repetition—especially in the moments we’re triggered or challenged. We both returned to the concept of patience, not as passivity, but as the ability to sit with discomfort without reacting. That’s where real growth happens. It’s not about eliminating emotions like anger or fear, but learning how to respond instead of being ruled by them. We explored how emotional reactivity often stems from identifying with the mind, and how freedom comes from creating space between stimulus and response. I reflected on a personal experience during a hijra journey between Mecca and Medina, where physical pain taught me that surrendering to discomfort actually eases it. That lesson carries into every aspect of life—resistance creates suffering, while acceptance invites peace. We closed by discussing meditation as a tool for cultivating inner stillness and discipline. It’s not about escaping or achieving something, but simply learning to be—sitting quietly, observing, letting go. It’s through this daily practice that we begin to discipline the self, embody the essence of Islam, and ultimately return to the Divine Presence of Allah Almighty. This is what it means to make the religion real—moving from form to essence, from surface to depth, from performance to presence. For those looking to go deeper, I created the Ramadan Success Program to support a more holistic experience of the sacred month, and the Islamic Meditation Program as a practical way to cultivate the inner stillness that anchors real faith. Chapters 00:00 | The Outer and Inner Dimensions of IslamWe open with a reflection on the dual nature of Islam: outward obedience and inward surrender, and the need to integrate both for a complete spiritual path. 02:31 | Illusions of Practice and the Need for EmbodimentJonathan discusses how spiritual growth requires more than intellectual understanding—it demands embodied experience and real transformation. 07:11 | Making Religion Real: Where It CountsWe explore how faith must be lived in personal life, especially in relationships, where inner growth is truly tested and revealed. 11:28 | Stillness as the Foundation for Self-ControlWe highlight the role of patience and stillness as tools for observing and regulating emotional reactivity. 18:33 | Thoughts, Emotions, and the Illusion of SelfThe conversation turns to the origins of emotions and how disidentifying from thoughts is key to spiritual freedom. 23:03 | Observing Emotions Without Acting on ThemJonathan shares how we can train ourselves to sit with difficult emotions and sensations, breaking the cycle of reactivity. 33:43 | The Power of Acceptance Through PainA personal story from the hijra journey illustrates how surrendering to discomfort dissolves resistance and transforms pain. 42:37 | What Meditation Really IsWe define meditation as stillness and surrender, not action, and explain its role in training the mind and accessing deeper awareness. 52:48 | Facing the Dragon: Finding the Treasure WithinThe metaphor of the dragon and the cave illustrates the spiritual journey inward, where true presence and divine connection await.

66 | Integrity and the Path to Spiritual Wholeness
In this spiritually grounding episode, we explore the concept of integrity as a state of wholeness—an alignment between our inner truth and outer actions. Drawing from sacred teachings, lived experience, and the wisdom of our predecessors, we reflect on what it means to walk a path of sincerity and growth in a world full of tests and distractions. We begin by affirming the importance of companionship—suhbah—as the foundation of spiritual development. Our hearts are shaped by those we keep close, and true transformation begins when we seek out and remain in the company of the sincere and truthful. As the Qur’an instructs, we are called to be mindful of God and to align ourselves with those who are trustworthy. Integrity, we understand, is not just about moral uprightness but about becoming whole. It’s the actualization of knowledge through experience. Like students in the school of life, we are given information, but it is only through tests—through trials and real-life challenges—that knowledge becomes real, embodied, and transformative. As we face hardship, we are not being punished but invited to grow. Religion, in this view, is a means to fulfill life’s ultimate purpose: to know and draw near to the Divine. This requires overcoming the ego, letting go of the need for control, and surrendering in humility. The path is not easy—the self resists—but it is in this struggle that we find true freedom. When we transcend the self, we awaken the heart, the seat of the spirit, and align with our deeper purpose. We also recognize the danger of pursuing knowledge without discipline. Without tarbiyah—spiritual training under a guide—knowledge can inflate the ego and lead us astray. True progress requires both learning and purification, both study and self-mastery. In the presence of God, we strive to see ourselves in a state of humility and spiritual poverty, knowing that all goodness flows from Him alone. This episode is a reminder that our path is not solitary. Growth happens in community, with support, with teachers, and with those committed to truth. May we continue to walk this path with integrity, sincerity, and a heart open to transformation.

65 | Maalik Al-Mulk—The Absolute Sovereign
In this episode, we reflect on the divine name of Allah, “Maalik Al-Mulk,” meaning the Owner and Sovereign of all creation. Understanding this name deepens our awareness of both God and ourselves, helping us recognize our purpose and the temporary nature of this world. Everything we possess—our wealth, our bodies, even our breath—is not truly ours but a trust from Allah. This realization fosters humility and gratitude, guiding us toward a more meaningful life. Our attachment to the material world (dunya) often distracts us from spiritual truth. When we become consumed by wealth, status, and worldly success, we risk forgetting our Creator and, in turn, losing ourselves. The prophets, including Jesus (peace be upon him), reminded humanity that gaining the world at the cost of our soul is the ultimate loss. Despite this warning, many still chase fleeting power and possessions, neglecting the eternal reality that awaits beyond this life. True fulfillment comes from drawing closer to Allah through remembrance (dhikr) and conscious devotion. When we forget God, we become veiled from truth, falling into heedlessness and ingratitude. The prophets set the example of living with sincerity, humility, and gratitude, teaching that our highest honor is in servitude to the Almighty. Following their path is not about mere identification with faith but about embodying their teachings in our actions and choices. The Quran reminds us that on the Day of Judgment, nothing will benefit us except a sound heart (qalb saleem)—one that is purified and devoted to Allah. No wealth, power, or worldly success will hold value beyond this life. Our challenge is to prioritize what truly matters, preparing for eternity by cultivating faith, gratitude, and righteousness. As we navigate this world, we must ask ourselves: Are we investing in what will perish or in what will last forever? Through remembrance of Allah, following the prophets, and seeking spiritual growth, we align ourselves with a higher purpose. Our time here is short, and death is inevitable, but belief frees us from the fear of the unknown. A life rooted in faith is a life lived with excellence, preparing us for a noble return to our Creator.

64 | The Most Beloved Names to Allah
On this episode of Soul of Islam Radio, we explore the significance of the most beloved names to Allah: Abdullah and Abdur-Rahman. These names, meaning “servant of God” and “servant of the Most Merciful,” reflect the highest state of being—one of true devotion and submission to the Creator. True servitude to Allah is not about restriction but about freedom—freedom from the ego, worldly distractions, and anything that distances us from our divine purpose. The modern world often promotes self-indulgence, urging us to prioritize our own desires. However, the teachings of Islam call us toward humility and self-discipline. Even the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the most perfected human being, would pray, “O my Lord, do not leave me to myself for even the blink of an eye.” If he sought such protection, how much more do we need it? Mercy is central to our faith. Allah describes Himself as Ar-Rahman, the Most Merciful, and every human being enters this world under that divine attribute. To be true servants of the Most Merciful, we must embody mercy in our interactions—with our families, communities, and even the environment. Mercy is not just a quality we receive; it is one we must actively cultivate and share. As Ramadan continues, this is a time for deep reflection and self-improvement. Are we serving Allah, or are we enslaved by our own egos and desires? The ultimate success is not in wealth, status, or personal gratification, but in becoming true servants of Allah, living with sincerity, humility, and mercy.

63 | Meditation and Stillness in Ramadan
Meditation is an integral part of spiritual practice, deeply rooted in Islamic tradition. In this episode, Ihsan reflects on the significance of presence, stillness, and surrender in connecting with Allah, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. Drawing from the example of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, peace and blessings be upon him, Ihsan recounts how he would retreat into the cave of Hira on Jabal Noor, isolating himself to commune with his Creator. It was in this sacred seclusion that the first revelations of the Holy Qur’an were received. This period of stillness and presence, preceding the establishment of faith and later the formalization of Islam, holds deep spiritual lessons for believers today. Meditation, as Ihsan describes, is simply “being with Allah.” In a world where the mind is often lost in past regrets and future anxieties, true connection with the Divine can only be found in the present moment. He reminds us that Allah is both transcendent and imminent, nearer to us than our own breath, and always accessible when we quiet the mind and open the heart. Stillness, he explains, is a form of surrender. It is through stillness that we awaken to the presence of Allah. Acts of worship—prayer, reciting the Qur’an, and dhikr—help guide us toward this inner stillness. But beyond doing, there is simply being: breathing, receiving, and existing in the state of pure presence. Ramadan provides an opportunity to balance both communal worship and private reflection. While gatherings and prayers strengthen our bonds with the ummah, withdrawing into personal stillness allows for deeper connection with the Divine. Ihsan encourages listeners to take time in solitude, just as the Prophet ﷺ did, to rekindle their relationship with Allah through presence and meditation.

62 | Rising Above the Pull of the Material World
The concept of “Spiritual Gravity” describes the inherent pull of the material world that can weigh down our hearts and souls, leading to feelings of heaviness, darkness, and even depression. After recently returning from a spiritually enriching journey through Morocco and Turkey, I experienced a familiar pattern—a temporary sense of dread or depression upon returning to a more materialistic environment. This heaviness that I felt after returning from spiritual travel reflects the gravitational pull of a world deeply rooted in matter and density. Just as gravity pulls objects downward, the material world similarly draws our spiritual selves into states of depression and disconnection. True spirituality, however, offers an invitation to rise and transcend this gravitational pull by reconnecting with the Divine, seeking expansiveness, ascension, and true fulfillment. The path toward spiritual ascension involves immersing oneself in environments and communities grounded in remembrance (dhikr), wisdom, and true knowledge, as preserved by the Prophets and the hearts of the truthful (as-Siddiqeen). Reflecting on this personal experience underscores the critical importance of spiritual reconnection and highlights the necessity of holding tightly to the lifeline extended by Allah Most High through the ages. Learning how to navigate and ultimately transcend the spiritual gravity of the material world leads to peace, purpose, and spiritual health.

61 | Trials and Tribulations of the Anti-Christ
Based upon the Hadith of Jibril (as), we learn that included in the fundamental and foundational components of the religion is knowledge of the signs that pertain to the last days of the current age, traditionally known as Akhir Zaman. Traditional knowledge transmits that the world will continue to descend into its demise with increasing corruption, tyranny, abuse and oppression, and that a tragic state of affairs will continue to deteriorate until an entity known as the Dajjal, or the anti-Christ, manifests as the embodiment of evil upon the earth. At this point, the Mahdi (as), or the “Guided One,” will be revealed and revive divinely guided leadership within the nation of believers. This moment will then be immediately followed by the return of the great messenger and prophet of God, Jesus (as), who will then proceed to slay the anti-Christ and re-establish peace and justice within the earth. Regarding the anti-Christ, or perhaps more accurately the “anti-Messiah,” the Messenger of God ﷺ described the signs as well as the trials and tribulations that would accompany this great deceiver, and admonished the believers to strengthen faith in their hearts so as to not be seduced by the deception of this greatest of tests for humanity. Among the qualities and characteristics that describe the anti-Christ, the following are chief and essential for they who seek truth to be mindful and vigilant of: Materialism. Deception. Corruption. Inversion. In this post, I share essential traditions related to the trials and tribulations of the anti-Christ, and make the point that there is a strong correlation between the above characteristics that define his methodology with the current trajectory of technological innovation. As they who seek to prepare ourselves for the inevitable destiny of this world and the conclusion of our own personal lives, we remind ourselves of the vital imperative to strengthen the light of faith within our hearts so as to meet eternity in the best of states and conditions, and to stand upon truth, excellence and beauty in times of both ease and difficulty. May Allah Almighty grant us the sacred and divine power of discernment through the light of faith within our hearts, and lead us to our best possible destinies in seeking to serve He Most High, Most Sublime, Absolute and Eternal. Ameen. To your divine and eternal success.

Teresa Lesher: Searching for God, Finding Love
Teresa Lesher is the author of the new Searching for God, Finding Love, which is an inspirational account of her personal journey deeper into faith upon the quest for truth, and in which she details her personal healing path and realization that God’s divine love and mercy are both imminent and accessible by turning “inwards and upwards.” The truth is easy to see. The decision is the hard part. I thank God every day for being Muslim. I’m very grateful to be among the Muslims. Teresa Lesher In this illuminating conversation, Teresa describes how she came to embrace Islam in the early 1980’s while at college in the United States at a time prior to the internet and when there was remarkably little information about the faith. She explains the importance of belief in the Day of Accounting, the necessity of balance in faith by deepening one’s spirituality in addition to upholding the formal disciplines of religion, that love must be based in action and in service, the key to authentic self-discovery, and much more. Teresa also shares the impact of the Course in Spiritual Healing upon her personal spiritual journey and awakening to the power and presence of God, and emphasizes the importance of realizing that the key to connection with our Creator lies in the very breath we are given each living moment. The best part of the course for me were the meditations and the breathwork. They helped me to still my soul, to feel more centered and to find some balance, and to find some quiet and peace. Teresa Lesher We also discuss the importance of recognition of results in the context of discernment, the profound and incomprehensible gift of access to the very speech of God in the form of the Holy Qur’an, how love heals and connects, the impact of technology and the internet on our culture, the importance of unplugging from the world, the difference between information and enlightenment, the power in the emptiness of the desert, and much more. About Teresa Lesher Teresa Lesher as of the time of writing lives in Kuwait with her family and is wife, mother, writer and most importantly servant of God. She is the author of Searching for God, Finding Love, and you can learn more about Teresa as well as purchase her book and connect with her directly via her website, Teresa Lesher. All this time I’ve been searching for God, and I found Him, as close to me as my breath. And so, before and beyond all my labels, titles, positions, and duties, I remembered my source in God, His breath breathed into my tiny body, and eventually a breath my body will exhale as I make my return journey to my Maker. Now I’m sure of who I am. And now that I know myself, I know everyone. We are all, essentially, a breath from God; we are created by Him, we belong to Him, and we are returning to Him. In the meantime, I will do my best to honor the privilege of my existence and implication of my origin. I will respect myself, and strive to be whole and wholesome, loving and loved, tender and joyful. I will honor all living things, since they, too, house that divine breath. I will stay conscious of my source and my destination and, in between, during this sojourn on earth, I will do my best to stay true to my essence, to always be, first and foremost, a breath of God. When I leave my bodily dwelling and return to God, I hope that I am recognized as belonging to Him, deemed worthy of His presence, welcomed home at last. Teresa Lesher

Jesus Versus Christianity: Doctrine of Salvation
The fundamental and central tenet of modern Christianity essentially posits that the key to salvation is essentially the acceptance of Jesus Christ (as) into one’s heart as their personal lord and savior, and that it is thus no longer necessary to follow the traditional Judaic Law. This idea then results in the belief that the criteria for both forgiveness and damnation are but the belief to which one subscribes, relegating one’s deeds and actions to what generally becomes an inconsequential role in the eternal state of the human soul. In light of what is happening is currently happening in the world today (and in reality what has been happening for centuries), particularly with regards to the ongoing ethnic cleansing and genocide in Palestine, as well as the myriad of other illegitimate wars and conflicts that have been perpetrated by the nominally “Christian” western world, I felt it was time to take a closer look at this basic belief upon which modern Christianity is based, as well as to point to the danger of an ideology the divorces deeds from piety by reducing salvation to but one’s professed identity. In this post, I share a clear and unambiguous statement by Jesus (as) from the Gospel of Matthew in which he himself invalidates this specific idea, i.e. that those who simply claim to believe in him will be saved. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father Who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name, and in thy name have cast out devils, and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity Jesus (as), Matthew 7:21—23 I reiterate in this post that Islam does not require the conversion of Christians, but only that they actually live up to the principles they claim the faith is based upon, and thereby avoid the descent into hypocrisy that results when our deeds and actions are inconsistent with our professed and stated beliefs. In truth, the Holy Qur’an states clearly that they who do believe and do righteous works in reality from the People of the Book shall have their share of God’s divine mercy and forgiveness in the hereafter. Verily, they who believe and they of the Jews and Christians and others who believe in God and the Last Day and who act righteously by doing good shall have their reward with their Lord, and no fear shall be upon them nor shall they grieve. Surah al-Baqarah, 2:62 May Allah Almighty, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, guide us to goodness, to purity, to righteousness and to peace. Ameen. To your divine and eternal success.

Jonathan Abdus-Samad Selwyn: Buddhism Led Me to Islam
Jonathan Selwyn also now known as Abdus-Samad since having embraced Islam has spent the bulk of his life upon the spiritual path seeking the way and truth, and has devoted an immense amount of time in mastering meditative and spiritual practice. Buddhism led me to Islam. Jonathan Abdus-Samad As a practicing Buddhist and promising student of his master, he was given the role and responsibility of teaching and leading on behalf of their school and in place of the teacher. Yet his quest and journey for greater levels of development, awakening and connection with the Divine ultimately resulted in profound spiritual vision that then led him directly to Islam, which was the last place he thought to look for truth and spirituality. Islam was the last religion that I wanted to look into because of the mainstream media bias. Jonathan Abdus-Samad In this interview and conversation with brother Abdus-Samad, we discuss his journey and arc towards and into al-Islam, the powerful guiding force of the fitra, or original disposition within, the two fundamental approaches to meditation and meditative practice, the importance of the middle path and way that naturally integrates all aspects of our temporal lives within and into the spiritual path of self-development and awakening, the way of the heart, the human need to seek and appreciate beauty, how Islam uniquely includes encompasses all paths, what to look for in a spiritual guide and mentor, and much more. In Islam I found the most complete path. Nothing is missing. Islam is the fastest way to peace. Jonathan Abdus-Samad May you enjoy and benefit from this conversation, and if you find value herein, please share with family and friends whom you think may also benefit. To your divine and eternal success.

Control Versus Chaos: How to Experience Peace in Times of Uncertainty
As human beings we have an innate need for stability that provides the experience of safety and security. We likewise have an innate disposition that finds instability, disorder and chaos unsettling, stressful and difficult. Therefore, we tend to seek control in our lives so as to manage and minimize the stress that we experience as a result of uncertainty. With what appears to be escalating chaos on the global stage, and with who are clearly incompetent in temporal positions of power, it is only natural for us to be feeling anxious and uncertain with regards to the future. Yet this state of affairs also provides us a valuable opportunity to practice patience and perseverance through which we can learn how to deepen and strengthen faith in our hearts, and so grow and develop our spirituality which reduces stress and suffering based on the changing circumstances and conditions of the world. It is important to remember that safety, security and stability originate with and are qualities and attributes of God, and the more connected and attached we are with the Divine Presence of Allah Almighty, the greater the sense of peace we will experience. Verily, in the remembrance of God do hearts find serenity. Surah ar-Ra’d, 13:28 By increasingly immersing ourselves in sacred worship such as prayer, meditation, remembrance and supplication, we strengthen our connection with the Divine Presence of God and progressively experience the stability, safety and security that we seek and that can only be found in the presence of our Lord and Creator, He Who is in control.

Join me in this wonderful and illuminating discussion with author A. Helwa as we discuss the secrets of divine love. The Role of a Shaykh in the Religion
The student and teacher relationship is as old as humanity, and the path of faith, religion and spirituality is no different in the necessity of learning from a qualified guide so as to avoid the myriad of pitfalls, misinterpretations and misunderstandings that inevitably arise without guidance from a qualified mentor upon the path. A qualified and competent master is even more essential upon the path of spiritual awakening, for the goal of the way is nothing short of the transcendence of the self and the knowing of God. Because we are each in our own blindspots, having a rightly guided model and leader is indispensable for they who seek to advance towards the Divine Presence of God. In this episode of Soul of Islam Radio, I explain the role of a shaykh in the religion, and point out the key and defining qualities and characteristics that constitute a competent leader. I also point out what a shaykh is not, and how to avoid the error of cultishness that will inevitably arise around the company of an enlightened and illuminated master of the way.

The misinterpretations of prosperity and the propagation of poverty-based consciousness into the world, have been used to control and lead the human mind into the traps of worldly illusions and mental delusions. Success in all of its positive manifestations is the goal of Islam, and to reach the goal, the seeker must acknowledge the potential within, fulfil the dreams of the higher self, and attain excellence and perfection. Spiritual asceticism and success in the world, are not polar opposites, but rather, they are meant to be coupled together and used to reach the station of excellence and perfection. The delusions of the human mind which we hear as voices and whispers, are also a huge factor in deterring us away from the attainment of success. Since no human mind is safe from the thoughts and false beliefs of self-worthlessness, of being incapable, or the lacking of skills and talents, the true nature of delusions must be exposed and known to us before we can make any real progress in the world.
