    PRINCIPLES OF NON-ISOLATION IN AUDIO #27This week we are blessed to add 2 new raucous troublemakers to our roster, Lyn Goeringer of Lansing, MI and Kristina Warren of Providence, RI. Together they knock out a raw and blistering noise duet as our first live set. They are followed up by Neural Goldberg, a new band (of old friends) consisting of Christopher Burns of Philadelphia, PA and PONIIA's own Jason Soliday of Chicago, IL. This home-spun duo (they practice weekly on the soundcrack server) has just released a flam-tastic new album <Flash Fouls> you should pick up right after listening to their record release performance right here. Truly excellent stuff from these gents. Finally, the full 4tet wastes no time in raising the stakes, the bar, the barn, the barnicles! Original Non-Isolationites, as it were. They play 2 group sets, and in between, the 3 members each dip into some solo action. Loads of fun interlaced with our fave interluder, DJ LUCY. PRINCIPLES OF NON-ISOLATION IN AUDIO #25Big fans of Halloween/Horror/Dia de los Muertos here at soundcrack, and with that in mind we present to you this week, 4 hours of nonstop terror. Brought to you by our lovely rotten guests including DJ Transient who packs a seriously fun variety pickaxe serving up our live acts on a platter. We start with Loachfillet's Cosmic Kite Memorial, performed from Oakland, CA. Loach finishes his set up by premiering a new cumbia macabre from Ritmos Tropicosmos "La Mujer del Agua". We follow up with Marlo Eggplant (Baltimore, MD) in duet with Eva Aguila (Los Angeles, CA). Next we have Venison Whirled (Austin, TX) and VIKI (Chicago, IL). And finally, Anvil Encephalopathy performs "To a Bloody Fucking Pulp", a conducted horror score featuring Danishta Rivero (vox), Carl French (bass), Tyler Harwood (drums), Zachary James Watkins (guitar), Jason Stamberger (keys), Carrie Barclay (bassoon), Angie Edwards (soundscape), David Lim (harsh noise), Jason Soliday (electronics), and Jake Rodriguez (cello). All 10 of our sonic undead playing from a different geographic location. Quite an undertaking, and we believe it was bloody successful. pre-show music (DJ Transient) 0:00:00 - 0:14:07 Loachfillet's Cosmic Kite Memorial 0:14:07 - 0:39:29 Ritmos Tropicosmos 0:39:29 - 0:44:04 interlude 1 (DJ Transient) 0:44:04 - 0:59:48 Marlo Eggplant & Eva Aguila 0:59:48 - 1:14:59 interlude 2 (DJ Transient) 1:14:59 - 1:36:11 Venison Whirled & VIKI 1:36:11 - 1:52:25 interlude 3 (DJ Transient) 1:52:25 - 2:09:29 Anvil Encephalopathy 2:09:29 - 2:41:52 afterparty (DJ Transient) 2:41:52 - 3:59:52 have a great week! PRINCIPLES OF NON-ISOLATION IN AUDIO #19Another "ensemble" night where we diverge from our usual format of 4 improvisers split into 2 duos and then a 4tet. Well, we do have 2 exquisite duos this week with Akosuen <+> Cinchel (both from Chicago), followed by Pamela Z <+> Wobbly (both from San Francisco), but our 3rd act is an 11-person ensemble conducted by Moe Staiano on Zoom. Our previous attempt at bringing folks together on Zoom for 0th's Scream Opera turned into a predictably fun but completely chaotic mess of Zoom artifacts and feedback (not unlike my 4 year-old's first Kindergarten Spanish class this morning). This time, we tried to prepare the Zoom meeting for better audio, and our musicians were more prepared, and I think the results are pretty fantastic. Bravo to Moe and his group for really bringing it. Akosuen and Cinchel blend their respective strings and keys into a gorgeous floaty dreamworld with edges. Pamela Z brings her chopped OP(era) to dance with Wobbly's sinewy electronics and you get some sort of new alien genre that all the kids are hip to on Kepler-443b. Speaking of Zoom, Wobbles and Pamela use Zoom in the background as a sort of aux send so that Wobbly can track Pamela's pitch in realtime. Crazy tech but it completely works. Our whole evening is framed by one of my favorite DJs in the land, Professor Cantaloupe from LA. Cantaloupe has a wry sense of humor and a deep well of appreciation for a vast genre of strange sounds and musics and we love the choices he brings to this program. The outro is an extended Cantaloupe afterparty, so after Moe's group plays, stick around for nearly an hour of the Professor's A-list.Moe Staiano Conducts features Melne Murphy, Drew Wheeler, Robin Hiroko Walsh, Karl Evangelista, Josh Pollock, Lisa Mezzacappa, David Slusser, Tom Weeks, Joshua Marshall, Bruce Ackley, and Mark Clifford.During the live presentation of this show, we collected donations for 50 Miles More, a youth-led radical black feminist group in Wisconsin, and the Milwaukee Freedom Fund which is collecting bailfunds for protestors in Kenosha, WI. If you are enjoying this program, I highly recommend checking out these 2 funds/orgs and giving them a few dollars, and/or support another worthy Black Lives Matter adjacent organization.pre-show music (Professor Cantaloupe) 0:00:00 - 0:19:56Cinchel <+> Akosuen 0:19:56 - 0:51:11interlude 1 (Professor Cantaloupe) 0:51:11 - 1:07:47Pamela Z <+> Wobbly 1:07:47 - 1:38:12interlude 2 (Professor Cantaloupe) 1:38:12 - 1:54:08Moe Staiano Conducts 1:54:08 - 2:25:55post-show music (Professor Cantaloupe) 2:25:55 - 3:20:04have a great week and find time to laugh!total running time 3hr20min

    PRINCIPLES OF NON-ISOLATION IN AUDIO #18Crazy high octane show this week with new UK pals Mariam Rezaei, Kenosist, and Petronn Sphene, alongside old Bay Area pals Midmight and Horaflora. Soliday is the mastermind of this show and things gel like a molten cigarette bucket burning on yr patio. There is a perfect edgy fidget to both Midmight and Horaflora that clicks just right in their duo. Mariam, Mark and Gretchen next kill a rapidfire skronky beat-oriented brain shiatsu that hurts just in the right way. And then, this 5tet of all 5 of these fookers is something to witness--serious embers floating in the air afterwards, and i'm not talking about Cali-fire-nia. PRINCIPLES OF NON-ISOLATION IN AUDIO #17Terrific show this week with Kim Nucci, Ezra Teboul, LeggLake, and Eric Leonardson. All set up and served by Bobby Ganush (Discos Extraños). We lost BobbyG right at the top of the evening due to some tech difficulties, so he doesn't join the first DJ set until the last song. Luckily we had some tunes ready to rock just in case. But this musical fiend makes up for it by providing killer "themed" sets throughout the rest of the evening, plus an extended 77-minute afterparty to get yr haunted groove on. The duo sets, starting with Kim + Ezra are particularly strong this week. Really nice interplay from these two. Followed up by another really superb duo from Albert and Eric. Eric's rich deep tones from his custom built electroacoustic instruments blend incredibly well with LeggLake's synth tones. As a 4tet, the whole thing deepens and broadens. PRINCIPLES OF NON-ISOLATION IN AUDIO #15On July 6, 2020 prolific composer extraordinaire, Ennio Morricone, passed away, leaving a massive legacy of amazing film music, composition, and sonic experimentation that will stretch and bend genres and minds until the end of time. For this week's PONIIA, we are blessed to have a return visit by DJ Fly-Faced Necronomicones Served by Marziveined Vampires, who happens to be a huge Morricone aficionado. We asked Fly-Faced if she would do a tribute to il Maestro, and she got back to us with "i've, um, pulled 7 hours of music". She cut that 7 hours down some, but we still have a marathon presentation for you this week. The entire show with the live sets totals close to 6 hours. Not a second wasted or filler, and as Fly-Faced mentioned many times, she had to cut out A LOT.Speaking of the live acts--this week we have visits by Cruel Work engineered by Angela Roberts on cello and Scott Goff on electronics, James Goode, who may or may not have a dermatological connection to Fifth Head from Faxed Head, SFSound contributing director Christopher Burns, and our own J.Soliday stepping out from behind the scenes to rip shit up. The sets are tight and fierce and flow just perfectly with the truly avant-garde sounds of Morricone. This episode is put together with love, grit, and spit. PRINCIPLES OF NON-ISOLATION IN AUDIO #14We attempt a sort of 'band' night with PONIIA #14 with 3 ensembles instead of our standard 4 improvisers split into duos and 4tet. The whole thing ends up as kind of a gorgeous clusterfuck. The evening starts with Charm & Strange which is normally comprised of Sharkiface (connecting remotely from Yucca Valley) and Julia Mazawa (SF), but sometime between sound check and showtime, Sharki's gear takes a dump, and we spend the entire set trying (and failing) to solve the problem. So what you hear here is a robust solo Charm & Strange provided by the stupendous Julia Mazawa. Let's call it Strange. She brings it. After that we have a record release performance by RIPONE, a new project made up of Tyler Harwood (New Orleans, LA) + Peter Stopschinski (Austin, TX). This is some killer synth grooviness and you should go grab a stripper pole and get yr moves in. Top notch fun by these two longtime collaborators. Then, we have the 0th Scream Opera brought to you by the lovely digitally compressed feedback of Zoom. 0th is an art collective made of up Jacqueline Gordon, Amanda Warner, Canner Mefe, and Caryl Kientz. Here they are conducting a Scream Opera with invited participants and Caryl mute-conducting them on Zoom. Really, this is a giant ball of fun, wrapped in failure, dipped in beauty, or something like that. Maybe unlistenable, but you are welcome to give it a shot. The whole evening is well-sewn together by our fave, DJ LUCY, who once again, keeps us from falling apart, or at least gives us time to pick the pieces back up again.pre-show music (DJ LUCY) 0:00:00 - 0:14:31Charm & Strange (Julia Mazawa) 0:14:35 - 0:43:18interlude 1 (DJ LUCY) 0:43:18 - 0:58:31RIPONE 0:58:31 - 1:22:27interlude 2 (DJ LUCY) 1:22:27 - 1:41:530th Scream Opera 1:41:53 - 2:04:36post-show music (DJ LUCY) 2:04:36 - 2:28:48have a great week and don't stop screaming!total running time 2hr28min

Norman is a master of his field recordings and other manipulations and the duet here with Michael on the contrabass is really remarkable. Yasi Perrera was having technical trouble with his laptop and was unable to hear anyone else before we got started, and backstage he and Jorge were discussing the option of neither listening to one another at all. I cannot tell you what ended up transpiring, but it sounds like they are in the same room even if across a big freakin pond. A super pleasure for me to hear Jorge again, here on guitar and synths and voice, who left the Bay Area and the U.S. maybe 12 years ago, and really happy to have Yasi grace our presence with his particular approach to your inner core. PRINCIPLES OF NON-ISOLATION IN AUDIO #10We continue to raise funds this week for some great organizations helping black communities, in particular surrounding the racist state-enabled police violence enacted against them. This week we have an incredible lineup of Hans Grüsel, Loachfillet, Bob Bellerue, and a revisit from one of our favorite vocalists, Danishta Rivero. This Grüsel/Loachfillet duet is some of the most unexpected music i've heard recently, and certainly an enjoyably mind-blowing composed and conceived piece for this evening, combining comedy, drama and horror--you pick your favorite flavor. I love this piece. Rivero/Bellerue come at this evening hard and cathartic-- and in maybe my favorite blip of the night--Rivero in the height of intensity hops onto the Twitch (where we are broadcasting) chat to say, "just taking a break for a second to say FUCK THE POLICE". Great use of this weird medium to heighten the moment. The 4tet takes one leg of the horror soundscapes of the Grüsel/Loachfillet duet and one leg of the cathartic scrawl of Rivero/Bellerue and increases the depths even further. A truly intense and magical evening of music. DJ Fly-Faced Necronomicones Served by Marziveined Vampires glues the whole thing together with a "solidarity set". Impeccable taste, as usual, even as it strays from her normal horrrrible roots.If you are enjoying the noises, please consider a donation to these organizations or similar BLACK LIVES MATTER adjacent organizations. We have chosen one group from Chicago - GoodKids MadCity, and one from the Bay Area - People's Breakfast. The Garnerway Foundation was chosen in particular because a portion of the Hans Grüsel/Loachfillet piece was created in memory of Eric Garner. We followed the lead of Ratskin Records, who donated all their proceeds from Bandcamp Day on June 5, 2020 to the Gianna Floyd Fund.Let's keep this going, folks. PRINCIPLES OF NON-ISOLATION IN AUDIO #9In the wake of the brutal murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis Police Officers Derek Chauvin, Thomas Lane, J.A. Kueng, and Tou Thao we present this week's PONIIA as a benefit to protests and actions against the Minneapolis police and throughout the United States. Did I say "united" states? Well, shit the people ARE united against police brutality and the systemically racist system that allows these atrocities to occur over and over again. We are witnessing protests all around the world right now and that feels like the only thing that's right lately and needs to keep happening to radically change this system. His duo with Akosuen is utterly fantastic to kick the show off. Akosuen, also known as Billie Howard, from Chicago, plays violin with maybe a looper and a Juno-60--she's got a perfect scratchy scraw in her step. When listening, in general, David is the wet sound, and Billie is the dry. Comes together beautifully. Carol Genetti is one of my new favorite noise vocalists. I had not heard her before this and she floored me. Tom Djll somehow transmangled his trumpet several years ago into a modular synth and expect to hear some of both here--but mostly synth. He gargles and gurgles with the best of them and in this 4tet he is playing with the best of them. Really top notch performances matched by supremely well-chosen interlude music by our fave, DJ LUCY. pre-show music (DJ LUCY) 0:00:00 - 0:16:56David Coulter <+> Akosuen 0:16:56 - 0:45:38interlude 1 (DJ LUCY) 0:45:38 - 0:59:15Carol Genetti <+> Tom Djll 0:59:15 - 1:29:35interlude 2 (DJ LUCY) 1:29:35 - 1:43:56PONIIA 4tet 1:43:56 - 2:18:13post-show music (DJ LUCY) 2:18:13 - 2:47:00stay safe and make sure your voice is heard!total running time 2hr47min

    PRINCIPLES OF NON-ISOLATION IN AUDIO #8Some nautical themes this week, which is fantastic cause the heat is really getting to us.First up this week we have a top-notch duo with Neil Jendon and Stephan Moore, both from Chicago. I have seen Neil play modular synth in Chicago before, but Stephan is new to me, and the two of them match very nicely in a long-form cut and twist. At this point in the live broadcast, things are rolling smooth as silk. Up next is some serious anchor weight with Suki O'Kane and Jorge Bachman. When I asked Suki to play our series, she suggested a duo with Jorge with whom she had a previously scheduled and then cancelled performance due to closures-19. Happy to provide a home for this duo as it cooks. And at this point in the live broadcast, my laptop (and video machine and broadcast host) is starting to cook too! I notice the video getting choppy, but the audio is still pristine. After another well-curated break by WOBBLY who is providing the earglue this evening, the 4tet of these like-minded seafarers launches into the open seas. By this point in the broadcast, the accumulation of heat and overtaxing video brilliance by Fletcher Pratt brings the whole shebang down to it's knees. The video has slowed to a halt, the audio feed entirely shuts down on the broadcast and when i restart it, remains choppy all the way to the end. My laptop is cooked. My brain is fried. The audience throws tomatoes, storms out, and demands a refund. The performers, however, are mostly unaffected and continue on with full intent, and due to Ninjam secretly recording on all participants machines, we have a completely intact recording to provide for you here. These are some deep waters, folks, and really happy we are able to provide the SCUBA while the wooden shards of the fishing boat drift away at the surface.pre-show music (WOBBLY) 0:00:00 - 0:15:22Neil Jendon <+> Stephan Moore 0:15:22 - 0:43:09interlude 1 (WOBBLY) 0:43:09 - 0:55:17Suki O'Kane <+> Jorge Bachman 0:55:17 - 1:26:56interlude 2 (WOBBLY) 1:26:56 - 1:37:40PONIIA 4tet 1:37:40 - 2:14:02post-show music (WOBBLY) 2:14:02 - 2:32:37stay safe and don't forget to keep your laptops cool!total running time 2hr37min

    PRINCIPLES OF NON-ISOLATION IN AUDIO #7It's no secret I stan Headboggle, but this week's pairing of the heady one (still stationed in the Tenderloin/SF) with Michael Sugarman, aka Sug (finishing some degree in Cambridge, MA) is the brainchild of Soliday who has been clamoring for this duo from the beginning. It does not disappoint. They squeeze together like a couple of hairy fleshballs healing and melting into one another. Headboggle exits the set prematurely with an internet disconnect which is the live streamer's version of the noise table dump. Alexandra Buschman/Demonsleeper (Oakland, CA), one half of the brujería rhythm and noise duo Las Sucias, and one of my favorite vocalist-noisers around, requested a duo with her pal Rafael Vargas-Bernard, aka Calnepuelco, who is currently in Miami, FL. They deliver a harsh-strong wall of vocal-synth noise. Maybe the purest noise set we've had in this series. Intense and earth-quaking. The 4tet, slow to start, ends up making an odd pairing into something rather spectacular. The demented musical shape of the final 3rd of their set finally comes into focus and you don't wanna stare. PRINCIPLES OF NON-ISOLATION IN AUDIO #5Dreamy fantasy lineup for this PONIIA with duos of Albert Ortega <+> Todd A. Tasty pre/post/inter-show morsels provided by DJ Fly-Faced Necronomicones Served by Marziveined Vampires. I've known Albert for years and seen him play under his own name as well as Legg Lake and Dirty Branchez. He never disappoints and is always moving in non-linear paths forward with synths and shakers and gourds. Todd is part of TV POW in Chicago and for this gig he stuck a microphone out his window and broadcast the sounds of Ashland Ave amongst some heavy 'other' sounds. Zach is from the venerable Black Spirituals and brought his axe to PLAY with Thomas and his wall of Buchla. soundcrack.net:::::roaming radio/////PONIIA #4

    PRINCIPLES OF NON-ISOLATION IN AUDIO #4 Interesting twists for this week's PONIIA: First off, this is a quartet that has played together before, more than once. I saw them at SF's Canessa Gallery--a great venue/series run by Bryan Day. I've been a fan of Greg Kelley's lips since booking Nmperign (his duo with Bhob Rainey) at the Clit Stop around 20 years ago. The flatulence he coaxes out of the trumpet is utterly industrial in its scope. Jacob Felix Heule is one of my favorite free improv percussionists in the Bay Area or anywhere for that matter--he has incredible posture and manages to exude some kinda zen calm before unleashing a blistering storm. Danishta Rivero does tricks on voice and electronics that i know not how she does. She has a way channelling beauty and ugly in her sound and transcends both ends of the spectrum. Chris Cooper's noise-guitar work as Angst Hase Pfeffer Nase as well as out-rock outfit Fat Worm of Error is always working at you from a multitude of levels simultaneously--poking you in the eyes 3 Stooges style while pantsing you from behind with some kinda sproingy device. So this 4tet is A THING. Secondly, this THING is taking place with 2 of the participants in the same room, but connecting to our server independently, another about 5 blocks away, and another 2 states away. Thirdly, this THING had a practice that we hosted on our server. So soundcrack is acting as some kinda virtual practice space now too. I love it. Finally, this THING features acoustic instruments. Nothing novel there in the world of musical musiques, but a first for us in our PONIIA series. Somehow, the idea of playing remotely via internet just theoretically lends itself more to electronic music and sounds. Not so. I put it out there this document proves that wrong. All three sets are top notch--harsh and dynamic and flowing and absolutely feel like this THING is taking place in a physical space with the players staring each other in the eyes. Pretty remarkable i think. DJ LUCY provides the glue once again and goes a little BUTT NUTZ. Just the way we like it. pre-show music (DJ LUCY) 0:00:00 - 0:15:31 Danishta Rivero <+> Greg Kelley 0:15:31 - 0:41:39 interlude 1 (DJ LUCY) 0:41:39 - 0:57:35 Chris Cooper <+> Jacob Felix Heule 0:57:35 - 1:26:19 interlude 2 (DJ LUCY) 1:26:19 - 1:44:31 PONIIA 4tet 1:44:31 - 2:10:05 post-show music (DJ LUCY) 2:10:05 - 2:36:29 stay safe and don't forget to stop wash yr sheets! total running time 2hr36min

    PRINCIPLES OF NON-ISOLATION IN AUDIO #3 Seriously cut-up and ridiculous PONIIA this week. Wobbly and Shatter Pattern are friends and I'm deeply familiar with both of their aural output, but I've never seen/heard them in duo form before, so an exciting combo for me personally. I have one MUKQS tape that I enjoy quite a bit, but have never met Max or seen/heard him live, so definitely less familiar to me, and Soliday brought in another Chicagoan, Jen Hill (performing here as Gin Hell) to fill the quartet. I had not heard Jen's music at all before this. Turns out to be immensely enjoyable and cohesive evening of music. Really impressed with the first duo of Gin Hell <+> MUKQS. they hit the ground running and have a really fraktasticly call-and-response approach to this weird tech we are using. Shatter Pattern <+> Wobbly next make some impossible music together, complete with vocals and beautiful song-like forms emerging from the nebulae, as well as smarmy commentary from the Wobbly-branded peanut gallery. DJ LUCY puts her own spin on the interludes this week, and suffice to say it got us all revved up sufficiently such that most of the beginnings and ends of sets and 'ludes are blended well beyond definition. i put general start and stop times down below for navigation, but not all those numbers reflect exactly what you will hear. The 4tet this week is a perfect blend of these voices with some damn wizardry i can't quite comprehend, but gladly succumb to. PRINCIPLES OF NON-ISOLATION IN AUDIO #2 So we've all been suddenly launched into this space where we're trying to achieve everything socially and publicly through the internet and that comes along with some god-damned technical challenges. And we had some god-damned technical challenges this week! Starting with the fact that I FORGOT TO HIT RECORD for the first 10 minutes of the show (really more of an old-school god-damned technical challenge). So I missed the pre-show music from our lobby curator du jour d-j soliday and approximately the first 5 minutes of the opening duo. But you still get the best of the best of the rest that's pretty freaking great. A fantastic group of 4 this week with Sharkiface from Oakland, Marlo Eggplant from all over but currently in LA, Bill Hsu from San Francisco, and Peter J Woods from Milwaukee. The opening duo of Sharki+Marlo hits it's stride a few minutes in and does not relent with it's thump and gloom. Seriously potent. Bill + Peter brought a more angular approach at first, but also settled into a seriously witchy brew. A funny side-note about these sessions and in particular a glance into "backstage" right before Bill + Peter's set: Like I mentioned last week, we are using Ninjam to interface with each other in realtime. Ninjam has a unique way of dealing with internet latency in that it makes the latency much longer and sorta predictable by setting a master tempo and sending a metronome to everyone and then putting everyone a "measure" behind what they are hearing and playing to. Mostly, so far, we have been ignoring the metronome and just playing and it works out just fine and natural. It makes for an interesting mix of honest listening and responding with a bit of the unknown as to how it actually lines up in the end. There is also a simple chat interface that we all use to privately chat during the show -- sorta like backstage. So, backstage, like 30 seconds before Peter and Bill's set, Bill asks Peter something along the lines of "so do we want to coordinate with some count on the metronome?" and Peter responds with "anything is cool with me, but if i do something dramatic it will always be on the 3. you'll have to figure out what 3 though." And then they started. And killed it. The 4tet was maybe my favorite portion of the night. Really great mix of all 4 and with everyone's technical hiccups out of the way, folks really got a chance to relax and dig in. Big smiles all around (i imagine). soundcrack.net:::::roaming radio/////PONIIA #1

    PRINCIPLES OF NON-ISOLATION IN AUDIO #1 well, it's been 2 years since I've fired up this particular mode of working, i.e., broadcasting some form of internet radio live to the world and then archiving it so it can be podd'd up for post-consumption. I can't claim any particular hinderance to my regularity of posting these apart from a general lack of focus and enthusiasm that comes in sharp waves and wanes, but here we now are: in a fucked-up landscape of disease and shaky truths and a lot of us are being tested. hard. and there is time, and i believe, a need for us to reach out to each other is some form even through scaly tentacles. my old pal and music partner Jason Soliday of Crank Satori in Chicago posted something on Twatter about the desire to collaborate online in realtime and mentioned Ninjam, which I hadn't previously heard about. I got to looking into the software and managed to set up a server and sent Soliday a message "hey i've got a ninjam server working--i think--if you are interested some time we should try it out." suffice to say Jason was up and running and sending me blistering waves of that Soliday Sound within about 20 minutes and we spent the next hour or two playing together and decided it was too fun to keep to ourselves. so we enlisted our pals Fletcher Pratt of Midori Records in Oakland, CA and LUER of Fluxus MT in Fargo, ND and formed a plan for a public performance. two duos that have never happened before: LUER <+> bran(...)pos followed by Fletcher Pratt <+> j.soliday finished off with the Tentacled Hand 4tet featuring all four of us. I think the show went about as smooth as i could hope, especially considering all the new technical challenges, and that i was both managing the stream and playing for half the show. i particularly enjoyed my duo with LUER. the archive is complete with the interlude music before between and after the sets. so this is how PONIIA formed. I think it will happen semi-frequently, maybe even weekly, maybe even for longer than 2 weeks. we'll see. with Soliday and myself co-curating for now, and with different participants from around the globe and different arrangements, it is a promising mode of communing via noises for our current situation. pre-show music 0:0:00-0:9:55 LUER <+> bran(...)pos 0:9:55-0:43:00 interlude 1 0:43:00-0:50:17 Fletcher Pratt <+> j.soliday 0:50:19-1:14:07 interlude 2 1:14:08-1:23:08 Tentacled Hand 4tet 1:23:10-1:51:17 post-show music 1:51:18-1:54:19 stay safe and don't forget to floss yr teeth! total running time 1hr54min

    Porest presents... Mark Gergis last visited soundcrack around 9 years ago and created one of my favorite hours of nonlinear performative noise-radio. If you found your way to reading this, you can figure out where to download that. After growing up and spending much of his adult/creative life in the Bay Area, Mark left the U.S. during the "Obama regime", spent several years in Vietnam and Malaysia, and is currently a nomadic nowhere/nobody and finds himself living in the UK. During a recent visit back home in the Bay, I was able to convince Mark to make a quick trip to the studio for a session. We were both incredibly busy the whole time he was here, and so I didn't expect him to craft anything as elaborate as his previous show. I was totally blown away when he showed up April 9 with a script and brand new material as well as a handful of Porest favorites (including a live performance of "The Porest Trap"), and some h0tshite selections from his incredible international archive of musiques and towelettes. We go into full duophony guitar/synth/vox mode with a couple of super-fun noise improvs. (Every time I play duo noise with Ava, I find myself leaning towards rhythms, I think largely because I like to hear how many fucking notes she can cram in between pulses.) December 02, 2017 special guest WAXY TOMB joins me in the studio to play tribute to friends and loved ones lost one year ago to the tragic fire in Oakland. Along the way we are joined by Yasi Perata and James Decker. Tribute is paid, but more than that, this is a celebration of amazing music and amazing peoples. We turn the studio into a dance party and beastly noise wallop, share some thoughts and fond memories of our friends, and join in the comfort of a communal grief. There is some seriously great, kick-ass music in this show —maybe 85% of I had rarely or never heard. We didn’t set out to offer a comprehensive listen to all the victims of the fire—that’s not what this is. WAXY/Jules and I (as well as Yasi and James) could spend hours focused just on the art/music of Jsun Adrian McCarty and Micah Danemayer, so we grab onto their merry-g0-round and orbit outward from there. I am particularly blown away by the music of Griffin Madden and Polar/Barrett Clark that I hadn’t heard before, and I am sure you will find something new and surprising in this 3-hour block. Final thoughts: take care of yourself; find music and artists that you are passionate about and share with others; go see more live shows - support the artists you love; and drink plenty of water! ❤️❤️ 461mb 3hrs7min V/A: ROGUE PULSE / GRAVITY COLLAPSE Benefit Compilation https://ratskinrecords.bandcamp.com/album/v-a-rogue-pulse-gravity-collapse-benefit-compilation Love Oakland - A Benefit for Those Affected by the Ghost Ship Fire https://loosegriprecords.bandcamp.com/album/love-oakland-a-benefit-for-those-affected-by-the-ghost-ship-fire Hybrid Veils: The Artwork of Jsun Adrian McCarty @ ProArts Gallery Dec 01 2017 - Dec 13 2017 https://proartsgallery.org/event/hybrid-veils-the-artwork-of-jsun-adrian-mccarty/ Title: Eudaemonia Artist: Them Are Us Too Album: Remain Title: Dorf Jungs Podcast 026: Griffin Madden Artist: Griffin Madden Album: n/a Title: Artists in the Time of War Artist: Joey Casio Album: Debtor’s Prison b/w Artists in Times of War Title: Vinezzz Artist: R.M.S. soundcrack.net::::roaming radio///WELCOME BACK w/ DIEGO AGUILAR-CANABAL & BRAN(...)POS 11.14.17

    8½ years after the last Roaming Radio broadcast with Lucy Antler, soundcrack.net returns to live broadcasts starting with an impromptu interview-noisejam with Diego Aguilar-Canabal. Hands on knobs and springs, Diego asks me questions about the history of soundcrack.net while we sputter and wheeze and drone out. Bonkers and loads of fun, this is, for me, a terrific return to broad/pod-casting. Look for fresh material from new and old pals in the coming year. (fighting SRG Magnetar)Magnetars exist to ruin most of our lives. They run around like stupid fucking babies splashing gamma radiation by the trillions of tons exposing everything to their random neutron star destroying idiocy. Our stomach parasites are at risk. This must be stopped immediately. The most insolent star pulling this fracas is SGR 0526-66. It runs around like a yellow white bubble skateboard destroying precious things like a thousand pentagram horned rhino at an outdoor gynecological crowd awareness demonstration. The Large Magellanic Cloud galaxy has suffered the most, but they say the magnetic wave of death is simply a gesture from Bhrojjhe who strips his war flower for the sake of his fouling battery. George Cremaschi formerly of West Oakland, CA, currently residing in the Czech Republic, but finding his way all over the world: Splitting the wood back in W.Oakland again for this fine set of electrons and space. Flexing time between the contrabass and the electronic world, this is a great balance of analog noisescapes, digital soundscapes, and acoustic woodscrapes, with a couple of stellar clarinet/contrabass duo recordings from Germany to round out the set. George has a nuanced attention span, or at least one that jives with my own rhythms. Highly recommended listen. Eat this title -- "No Kindness Went Unpunished: A Love Song". 1hr46min 96mb

    Ahhh King Riff. The sights, the smells, the wonders of it all. An excellent visit to his latest vunderspez in Chinatown! The entrance greets you with a painted RA hands-outreached beckoning you down below into the subterranean dwelling-studio-vomitorium. Mr. Eric Bauer, my longtime collaborator and friend, has been collecting strange and amazing studio gear for the past decade (some of it actually works!), and has now built himself a nice working vintage-style recording studio with control room (and puke piles). He has taken good advantage of this for the broadcast, as the control room is prepped for the first hour's performance--"POPEYE'D": a tape-music onslaught manipulated processed and mixed live during the full-hour of insanity. This is concrete of the best kind. Surprisingly "prolific" (as hans grusel called it the next day). After the first hour, everything devolves in a puke-breathed' fashion down around the corner into the live room and AEROBICS KING begins its meat-pummel. This version of Bauer's long-lived KING consists of King Riff on guitar, Super-Cute Pete on drums, ELandmark on bass and farfisa, Chobs on vocals, Ackerman on percussion, and herkyjaerk on bass and farfisa (2), fucking out "HUNG LIKE MARLA GIBBS AKA CHARLES BARKLEY'S BIG TIP". All right, listeners, to do this correctly, you need to get yourself a 5th of Jim Beam, start drinking at the beginning of the set, vomit into your mouth about an hour into the set, swallow it down hard, strip down nude and sweaty and sip slowly through the puke taste until the full 2 hours is up. 1hr51min 102mb

    soundcrack.net::::roaming radio///JAMES GOODE 05.06.08

    A bit of tech info I must pass on for folks listening in to this performance-recording: First off, our soundcrack session this time is broadcast live from the 8-channel surround tinkertoy studio of mr. James Goode. It's a real treat to get to hear James mix his small electronics and physical object clank in surround, and in order to approximate this for the stereo broadcast, we decided to do a mix of live mics and direct mixer feed to achieve in depth what would be lacking in multiple channels of broadcast sound. I think the results are pretty stunning. Even more stunning is the fact that much (and in the case of the 2nd set--99%) of the sounds are created from small physical objects--sometimes manipulated digitally, but oftentimes you are hearing an actual physical object being manipulated with incredible non-DSP tools such as PHYSICS and GRAVITY and HANDS and MOUTH. You won't believe me, but check out the heavy synth noise sections in p2 ("last-o-cast") starting around 1:09:45 and again at 1:23:20. James places several odd-shaped balloon objects into a water basin and allows them to empty their contents (water? air?) into the basin, creating a hugely cacophonous wall of noise. unbelievable, even to witness in person, but go ahead, and empty your head into this willing gourd for proof. 92mb 1hr40min

    oolies is visiting knucklehead Mitchell Brown's vision of a patched-together electro-ethio-funk bread and jam. mitchell plays synthesizer and drums and is accompanied by Loachfillet on guitar and noises and jake rodriguez on bass and hajouj. hot fun in the sun--this is a cracked cranium's version of west oakland on a sunny saturday afternoon. preaching religion on the corner, and muni trains passing express under the bay. cream of the cropped by loach and jake to give you the best moments. pardon my passing sausage. 69mb 50min

    soundcrack.net::::roaming radio///Thomas Dimuzio 04.23.08

    A really beautiful longform performance here, looking out into the vast pacific ocean nothingness. Thomas Dimuzio's house sits high above the Sunset district in SF, with an amazing view out towards the other side of the world. Something strange about the seashore this evening as it provokes a bit of claustrophobia in a way i've never experienced before. Usually the ocean feels open and liberating to me, but tonight i get the sense that it's a blockade, a wall, or maybe even a facade--in any case, i feel a little trapped by the black nothing (it is evening, so there is no differentiation between sky, water, or shore. At some point, i see a huge light drop straight into the sea. probably a shooting star crossing the horizon downward--but it could also be a meteor crashing into the ocean 1000 miles out, with the killer tsunami to follow suit. we sit and watch a bright flickering light on the horizon for awhile, imagining that it's the hawaiian islands on fire in the distance. nothing comes of this, but the music tells of both expanse and claustrophobia, and provides an amazing soundtrack for the outer, overworn corners of your teakettle mind. Thomas takes a break about 1 hour in and plays some tracks from his CDs, and then we do an impromptu announcement of a few upcoming shows which then leads into his skittery second piece. This is an excellent accompaniment to pretty much any activity. fed directly into your noggin-- Listen as the tidal wave crashes. 104mb 1hr53min

    Soundcrack is back after a 2-month break due to work constraints and the Satanic Church Radio (our most frequent and gracious guests) return us to form with another fine medley of worm-bait meets charm&schmaltz. Karla LaVey and special guest Leandra Kastoza offer a rotten eggnog chaser for the hell-o-day blues. The great orchestral catastrophe by Vinko Globokar starts us off before launching into the heavy-cookie onslaught of Sanctifier, and, well--surprises are in store. I actually arrive early to Josh's place on Treat Street (a soundcrack first!). He has his noisemakers/sources all patched into planetsize's crusty old smoke-damaged mixer. Cables are crappy, adapters i've never even seen before barely making the necessary electrical connections. but josh is otherwise distracted and in a mad dash making an amazing spicy thai dinner for us. starting with a crazy green papaya salad - crunchy delicious and hot as hell and followed up with a super yummy creamy red veggie curry. made with spices josh brought back from his recent trip to SE Asia. I'm in hot mouth yum territory when we get ready for the broadcast. Junkdrawer plays live twice in this set: starting off with a buildup of drone-delay and trumpet flurries for the first 10 minutes of the set, and then again a more certain version with a trio of electric shavers running through a harmonizer starting at 1 hour 15 minutes in. His trumpet playing really impresses and he states several times to me that this is his first 'noise' show and so he's nervous. Well, nerves make for tasty spice/tonic. The rest of the set is filled with various world musics and favorites from his collection on LP and a couple of Ipods. Sometimes connections go south, and mixer channels die and come back to life. Nevertheless, a lively romp that keeps us going a good 40 minutes past our intended stop time. You must discard the lemongrass only after sucking out its innards. 2hr40min 147mb Title: Forest War Artist: Junkdrawer Album: ??
