Forkner DEPARTS Kawi, Coenen talks MOVE UP to 450 & MUCH MORE! | Moto News Worldwide
Austin Forkner, a long-standing member of Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki, has officially declared his departure from the team as of 2025. He is expected to join Triumph, although this move has not yet been confirmed. Before becoming a professional, Forkner was nurtured in Team Green's amateur ranks and later transitioned into Mitch Payton's Pro Circuit team in mid-2016, where he achieved a fourth-place finish in the 250MX championship. Throughout his career, despite facing numerous injuries and health challenges, Forkner has remained a formidable competitor. His most notable achievements include consecutive third-place finishes in the 250SX East and West divisions from 2019 to 2020. Lucas Coenen, a rising star who is freshly signed with De Carli KTM, is poised to potentially become one of Europe's most successful talents to venture into American racing. At just 17, the Belgian's ambition isn't anchored in dominating European circuits but rather in making a mark across the Atlantic in the AMA Supercross and Motocross championships. His aspiration was sparked by countless hours watching videos of James Stewart, the racer who inspired Coenen's dream of competing at the pinnacle of motorsport. Following in the footsteps of past AMA champions like Chad Reed, Grant Langston, and Ben Townley, Coenen's path was through the FIM Motocross World Championships. Interestingly, as a child, he was unaware of the FIM championships, his focus and admiration fixed on American Supercross heroes like Stewart and Ryan Villopoto. This early fascination shaped his racing vision, aiming to emulate what his idol Stewart achieved. Initially, Towers kicked off the year with the Star Yamaha team in the USA, competing in the Supercross Futures Series where he was frequently among the top three finishers. However, after this series concluded, he and Star Yamaha parted ways, leading to a significant shift in his racing career.VRT Yamaha, primarily engaged in the EMX250 championship, faced a setback when their promising rider Janis Reisulis suffered a season-ending injury. This prompted them to scout for a replacement in America, and Towers was presented with an opportunity to join and compete in the EMX250 series. To his credit, Towers embraced this cross-continental challenge. Deegan talks SCOOP TIRE & SHORT START, Liam Everts INJURY UPDATE & MORE | Moto News Worldwide
Haiden Deegan worked hard all week on starts and even adopted the notorious scoop tire for this weekends round in Texas, which was a bold decision considering it was probably the most hard packed track all year. With how short the start was this weekend, it would definitely give him an advantage as he was one of very few to use it. Even though the scoop tire was bad for 99.9% of the race, he made it work on the starts, which is all that matters. During the second race of the Grand Prix in China, a collision occurred between Lucas Coenen and Liam Everts as they both aimed for the same rut. Coenen, attempting an inside pass, inadvertently caused Everts to crash heavily. Everts' front wheel was knocked out, leading him to be flung over his handlebars onto the track. Firepower Honda rider Carson Mumford was only at his second race back this weekend and his second race on the new bike and team. His goal was just to build on his new program, form a foundation and prep for 2025. Unfortunately things didn't go to plan. This weekend at Fort Worth SuperMotocross, Mumford had a crash in the rhythm section during practice resulting in a compound fracture of his right leg. Seewer SIGNS with Ducati, Swoll, Hymas & Cochran OUT & MORE! | Moto News Worldwide
Ducati has officially announced a contract with Jeremy Seewer, marking a significant milestone as the first MXGP World Championship rider to join their roster. The 2025 season will see Ducati fully competing in the MXGP World Championship for the first time. After Jalek Swoll sustained a concussion during last weekend's race in North Carolina, Triumph Racing has announced that Swoll will not participate in the second round of the SMX Playoffs in Fort Worth Texas. Swoll experienced a severe crash right at the start of the first moto, prompting an immediate red flag since the incident occurred on an active part of the track. He remained motionless for about a minute before medical staff assisted him to the Alpinestars medical cart, effectively ending his participation for the day as he did not compete in the second moto. Another injured rider sitting out this weekend in Texas, and the finale in Las Vegas is the rookie rider for Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Casey Cochran. Cochran had a huge crash last weekend in Charlotte during qualifying. If you haven't seen it, here’s the crash clip. Honda HRC rider Chance Hymas had us all wondering what happened to him last weekend. He went from being a podium contender in Pro Motocross, earning a spot on Team USA for Motocross Of Nations, to finishing 16th overall at round 1 of SuperMotocross. Was it just an off weekend? Is he injured? Did he crash? We were all left wondering what happened as the broadcast gives absolutely zero screen time to anyone outside the top 5. On the first weekend of October, the legendary Motocross Of Nations takes place at Matterley Basin, England. This year, Estonia will be represented by Gert Krestinov (MXGP), Harri Kullas (Open) and Tanel Leok (MX2). Sexton hopes for BOUNCEBACK, Lucas Coenen moving UP to MXGP in '25? & MORE | Moto News Worldwide
Chase Sexton is aiming to reverse his fortunes from last year's SuperMotocross World Championship SMX Playoffs. In the previous season, Sexton started with the lead in the 450SMX qualifying, clinched victory at the first SMX Playoff event in North Carolina, but his performance waned, placing third in the double points second round and a disappointing tenth in the triple points finale after a crash while leading. After a tough battle with Jett Lawrence the previous summer with a lot of losses, Sexton was determined to secure the SMX title. It's confirmed that both Sacha and Lucas Coenen will join de Carli KTM in 2025, reuniting with Längenfelder. This shift will likely see the Coenen brothers spending more time in Italy, though the team has shown flexibility, as evidenced by allowing Prado to train in Belgium with Joel Smets this season. While Sacha Coenen continues in the MX2 World Championship, there's a strong possibility Lucas might transition to the MXGP class. At just 17 years old, with his 18th birthday in November, such a move would be ambitious. This development is one to watch if it comes to fruition. Slovenia is set to compete at this year's Motocross Of Nations at Matterley Basin on October 5th and 6th. They're pinning their hopes on Tim Gajser, who will race in the MXGP class and lead the team, he currently holds the MXGP World Championship lead with two rounds remaining, though his title battle with Jorge Prado is expected to be fiercely contested to the very end. Savatgy / Triumph SPLIT & new deal, Guillem Farres to sign with Triumph & MORE! | Moto News Worldwide
Triumph Racing and Joey Savatgy have parted ways after just one season of Pro Motocross competition. This separation allows Savatgy to pursue another full-time 450 class opportunity, which has not yet been disclosed, set for the 2025 season. Due to eligibility rules, Savatgy cannot compete in the 250SX class. Where will Savatgy head now you may ask? Well its believed he is currently in talks with Firepower Honda, working on a 450 class World Supercross / AMA Supercross deal for the remainder of 2024 and into 2025. Over the past two years, Guillem Farres has been competing in the American racing scene. In 2022, he participated in several AMA Nationals under the Star Yamaha banner, impressing the team enough to secure a spot with them for 2023. This season, Farres transitioned from Yamaha to the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna team. However, he hasn't fully showcased his capabilities in the U.S. due to injuries, which is unfortunate given his evident speed. Excitement is building for the 2024 Motocross of Nations, set to take place at Matterley Basin, England, from October 5th to 6th. This prestigious event marks the culmination of the season. Italy, fielding one of the youngest teams with an average age of just 22, aims to showcase the prowess of its young motocross talent and the collective strength of its riders donning the Maglia Azzurra. For the 2024 Motocross of Nations, scheduled for October 5-6 at Matterley Basin in England, the riders chosen to represent Sweden and uphold their national colors are as follows: The team will be guided by coach and team manager Filip Thuresson, with Filip Bengtsson also involved. Sexton considers racing MXGP, Lawrence's SOLE GOAL to win all 3 SMX rounds & MORE | Moto News Worldwide
Chase Sexton, the AMA Supercross and Pro Motocross champion under Red Bull KTM, has hinted at a future ambition to compete in the MXGP World Championship, potentially marking a significant chapter towards the end of his racing career. Jett Lawrence, the reigning 450SMX champion riding for Team Honda HRC, has boldly announced his aim to win as he prepares for the opening playoff round in Charlotte this weekend, marking his comeback after an injury-induced break. Lawrence secured his first Monster Energy Supercross 450SX championship earlier in the year but had to abandon his Pro Motocross title defense following a thumb injury sustained in a practice crash halfway through the season. Nate Thrasher, riding for Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing, finished 11th overall at the second round of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship despite competing with a broken collarbone. He revealed after Hangtown that he had not only broken his collarbone but also bent the surgical plate from a prior injury. With just over a month until the eagerly awaited Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations (MXON) at Matterley Basin from October 4th to 6th, Team Manager Mark Chamberlain, alongside the ACU Motocross Commission, has announced the riders who will represent Great Britain: Tommy Searle in MXGP, Max Anstie in MX2, and Conrad Mewse in MX Open. This year, Team Spain is set to be among the most formidable contenders at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations. Jorge Prado, the reigning MXGP World Champion, will represent Spain in the United Kingdom from October 4-6, 2024. He'll be joined by Rubén Fernandez, who has returned to racing since the MXGP of Switzerland, and Oriol Oliver, now a consistent top 10 finisher in the MX2 World Championship. Jett Lawrence UPDATE, MXoN teams ANNOUNCED & MUCH MORE! | Moto News Worldwide
So Jett Lawrence has been out for a while now healing up from his UCL injury, since his surgery not much has been said about his recovery process. The last thing we have seen was an instagram post from Jett of him back on his bike, testing the 2025 Honda 450. Considering it took Eli Tomac and Cooper Webb such a long time to recover from the same injury it left us wondering if Jett would return in time for the SuperMotocross Playoffs. Since not much was said about Jett, how his recover process is going, or how he’s liking the 2025 Honda I took it upon myself to ask Team Honda HRC manager Lars Lindstrom these questions after Budds Creek. Here’s Lars Lindstrom's response. Exciting News for the 2024 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations! A formidable team has been unveiled for the upcoming event at Matterley Basin, UK, taking place from October 4th to 6th. Team Netherlands is set to be a strong contender for the Chamberlain Trophy with their stellar lineup In the MXGP class we have Red Bull KTM’s Jeffrey Herlings who currently sits 3rd in MXGP World Championship points, only 35 points down from points leader Tim Gajser. Herlings had a rough start to the year but has been on his A-Game lately, his most recent finish being a 1-1 at his home race in Arnhem. The next Motocross Of Nations team announcement we have is for the defending champions, Team France. The FFM have finally confirmed their 2024 Motocross Of Nations team, and it's actually the exact same as last year. The defending Motocross Of Nations champions, Team France, will consist of the following riders. Speaking of Renaux. This weekend, Maxime Renaux, the French motocross star, is gearing up for his return to the MXGP World Championship at the Swiss Grand Prix in Frauenfeld. Renaux's racing hiatus was necessitated by a persistent heel injury, originally suffered a year ago, which flared up significantly after the second Grand Prix in Spain, forcing him to take a break from competition. The standout rookie in the MXGP class this year, currently holding the eighth position in the FIM Motocross World Championship, Kevin Horgmo, has confirmed he will ride with Team Ship To Cycle Honda Motoblouz SR next season. Team Germany ANNOUNCED, Drew Adams to make PRO DEBUT & MUCH MORE!
The MXoN Team Germany line-up for the 77th Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations, taking place October 4-6 at Matterley Basin, UK, has been finalized. With Ken Roczen (MXGP), Simon Längenfelder (MX2) and Max Nagl (Open), Team Managers Marcel Dornhöfer and Karsten Schneider present a very strong team that many experts believe has a good chance of finishing on the podium. Drew Adams, sporting Team Green Kawasaki's vibrant livery, is poised for stardom in the racing world. His recent victory in the 250 Pro Sport class at Loretta Lynns has paved the way for his professional debut at Ironman on August 24th. This event marks the thrilling finale of this year's series, where Adams will test his mettle against seasoned pros in the 250MX class. Adams has been juggling his racing career between Canada and the U.S., showcasing his versatility and dedication. This is the type of news we hate to see. The Muc-Off/FXR/ClubMX team announced today that Jett Reynolds, who has actually having a great season up until this point, broke his collarbone during a practice session last week. Now Jett himself has yet to comment on the situation but the Club MX team manager gave us some info, here’s what he had to say. MXGP racer CONFIRMED to race Unadilla, GEAR changes for TOP RIDERS in 2025 & MUCH MORE!
Former full-time German MXGP racer Henry Jacobi confirmed today that he will be making the journey across the pond to the United States for two rounds of AMA Pro Motocross, the upcoming Unadilla National & Budds Creek National. Jacobi races for Sarholz KTM Racing and currently races the ADAC Championship full time. He has raced a couple other one of events as well in 2024, in June he raced his home GP, the MXGP Of Germany at Teutschenthal. He qualified incredibly with a 9th, and on race day finished 10th in moto 1. Unfortunately in moto 2 Jacobi crashed out thus finishing 31st, dropping his overall finish to 16th... Still not too bad for a one off World Championship appearance. So there are three very prominent riders that have gear deals ending in 2024, those riders are Justin Cooper, Cooper Webb, and Aaron Plessinger. Rumor has it Justin cooper will be separating with Alpinestars in 2025 and signing with Oneal, Cooper Webb will be separating with Thor and signing with FXR. Now the Aaron Plessinger rumor is less certain. The rumor was that a single digit rider would be signing with Fly Racing, well other than Webb, the only other single digit rider without a gear deal for 2025 is Plessinger. So the rumor was that AP would be going with Fly Racing in 2025. Again, this one is iffy, it was also expressed to me that the single digit rider going to FLy rumor was actually thought to be Webb, but that rumor got shut down since it’s pretty certain he’s signing with FXR. So dont take my word on the AP rumor, but expect to see Justin Cooper in Oneal next year & Cooper Webb in FXR! Romain Febvre and the Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP, who have enjoyed a highly successful partnership in the FIM MXGP World Championship since 2020, have agreed to continue their collaboration for the next two years. Since joining Kawasaki five years ago, Febvre has become ONE OF the most successful rider in the team's history in the MXGP class, earning silver medals in the series in both 2021 and 2023. Motorcycling New Zealand has announced its team for the 2024 FIM Monster Energy Motocross of Nations, set to take place in England from October 4-6. The squad consists of Brodie Connolly, Hamish Harwood, and Nathan Crawford, with James Scott named as the reserve rider. Led by Team Manager Shayne King, a former World Motocross Champion, the team aims to build on New Zealand's impressive record at the event, which includes three podium finishes. Speaking of Crawford & Connolly, Six riders have accepted the challenge to compete in the Shanghai-based event – Nathan Crawford (KTM), Todd Waters (Husqvarna), Kirk Gibbs (GASGAS), Brodie Connolly (Honda), Jayce Cosford (Yamaha) and Byron Dennis (GASGAS) – as the championship returns to the world’s second most populous nation for the first time since 2019 and just a year before MXGP comes back to Australia. The Dutch Nestaan Husqvarna Factory MX2 rider and current World Championship points leader Kay De Wolf has been rumored to be in talks of moving to the US for a while now. Originally it was thought to be 2025, but then he got locked in with the KTM group umbrella for another year, so potentially 2026? Roczen CONFIRMED racing 250, Marchbanks making Kawi DEBUT at Dilla & MORE!
Over the past week or so HEP Progressive Suzuki rider Ken Roczen has been teasing the idea of returning to Lucas Oil Pro Motocross at the upcoming Unadilla National. He even appeared on the Pulp MX show last week saying basically that he didn't know if he wanted to or not, it was just an idea. Well it seemed he was pretty keen on going, as even the team recognized the fact that he really wanted to race a couple rounds. On top of that some wild rumors began roaming the internet, and that was that not only would he be returning for a couple rounds of Pro Motocross, but the final round would be on a 250. I did not believe this rumor at all considering I hadn't heard it from any reliable sources, but it turns out it's true. Breaking news! Following an off weekend in the AMA Pro Motocross Championship, Kawasaki has officially announced the return of Garrett Marchbanks to the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit 250 team. Marchbanks first turned pro with the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki team in the summer of 2018 during the Pro Motocross season. In his rookie season in 2019, he secured his first Monster Energy AMA Supercross podium with a second-place finish in the muddy San Diego SX. The Belgian Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing MXGP rider Jago Geerts has been out with injury since round 1 of the series back in Argentina at Patagonia. After a lengthy recovery process, dealing with a broken collarbone and fractured elbow he announced he would make a return to racing at his home race in Lommel Belgium this past weekend. He did, but it didn't go exactly how he wanted it to.... Eli Tomac BACK ON BIKE, Ken Roczen BACK for Unadilla & MUCH MORE!
Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha rider from Colorado, Eli Tomac, has been very silent since being sidelined back in Denver Supercross after sustaining a Bennett Fracture in his thumb. He went on to have his surgery, and was expected to be off the bike for 6-8 weeks. Here we are roughly 12 weeks later and we have finally gotten an update on Tomac and fortunately it's a good one. Eli Tomac who is normally a very introverted guy and not really on social media all too often took it upon himself to give us all an update last night. He explained that he had been doing some basic training for a bit, gave his mountain bike a go last week to test his thumb and it felt pretty good so he announced he would begin riding again today. On top of that he informed us his goal for return is Budds Creek in roughly a month. HEP Progressive Suzuki rider Ken Roczen has been off the bike since his nasty supercross crash back in Nashville. Even though he didn't intend on racing the full season of Lucas Oil Pro Motocross anyways, this injury still cut his Supercross season short and postponed any potential one off Pro Motocross races like he did last year. For those of you who don't remember his crash that took him out of the 2024 supercross championship, here’s the clip. The 450 class rookie Hunter Lawrence has been a title contender since the beginning of the 2024 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross season. Every race he has been a top guy. Everything seemed to be going his way until RedBud when he made a small mistake, causing him to go down pretty hard, and thus throwing away the lead. Club MX FXR Yamaha rider Coty Schock has been out since he had a midweek practice crash breaking his wrist about a month ago, he ended up having surgery and all went well. About a week ago he got the stitches removed, said his wrist was feeling great and hoped to be back on the bike soon, the goal is to return at Unadilla. Hear it from the man himself in his latest injury update video. Factory Fantic MX2 athlete Kay Karssemakers has been having a halfway decent year thus far, im sure its not what he was shooting for but to be on a new bike, recovering from a pre-season injury and all, id say its not awful. He started racing professionally in 2022, skipped the 2023 MX2 championship, dropped back down to the EMX250 championship and then returned under a factory tent in 2024 on the World Championship stage. Colt Nichols to HEP Suzuki, Chance Hymas INJURY UPDATE & MUCH MORE!
After separating with the Liqui Moly Factory Beta team following a rough 2024 Monster Energy Supercross season, Colt Nichols was expected to move to HEP Progressive Suzuki for the remainder of 2024 & into 2025. Well as of yesterday its official. Suzuki confirmed Nichols signing in a press release and confirmed he will make his debut in a few weeks at the Unadilla National. In a start crash at the FXR Spring Creek National, Chance Hymas clinched the holeshot in the second 250 moto, only to have his foot snag on Haiden Deegan's bike after a slight misstep. This unfortunate mishap not only dashed Deegan's hopes of a win, as the points leader crashed out, but also forced Hymas to withdraw from the race due to a foot injury. Had Hymas' foot veered just slightly in another direction, both riders could have been vying for the lead. Fortunately though, early assessments suggest Hymas' injury might not be severe. Our next story is an MXGP one, the rider we're going to look at is Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP rider Jago Geerts. The Belgian was expected to be a top contender in the 2024 season, unfortunately his year was over quickly as he got hurt at Round 1 of the series in Argentina and has been out since. He has been recovering from a broken collarbone and elbow from said crash. Final story of the day is regarding a young buck here in the united states, that is the BarX Suzuki rider Preston Boespflug. He has been out with injury since his start crash back at Hangtown. I vividly remember seeing this wild crash, lots of guys were involved and Preston got lucky, only walking away with a broken thumb. If you guys havent seen it or dont remember, here’s his crash. NEW ANGLE'S of Deegan's RedBud CRASH, Herlings COMEBACK & MORE! | Moto News Worldwide
Alright to start the video we're going to look at 250 class points leader Haiden Deegan's nasty crash at RedBud. Now from where I was watching I was looking at the face of the jump, I saw the lapper go over the bars and I honestly thought vialle was gonna land on him but I guess he got lucky. Deegan was 5 seconds behind Vialle and unfortunately he got caught up in it due to the flagger not paying attention. Let's first look at the original clip that Deegan posted of the crash and all the new angles I found. Here's those clips. The popular Dutch rider Jeffrey Herlings has had a rough few years dealing with injury after injury.... Coming into 2024 most moto media guys were saying his career is over, he'll never be able to battle for the MXGP World Championship again. My opinion has been that Herlings is going to be more conservative to avoid injury and that it's going to take him some time to get comfortable again but I always thought he will claw his way back into title contention and that's just what he's done. Alright next story is a quick one, it's a health update on the Canadian champ Ryder McNabb who was making his first full season debut here in the US on AEO Powersports KTM. In hi first couple races here he was finishing just outside points paying positions with 22nd & 23rd place finishes which really isn't that bad considering how deep the field is right now. But at the last three races he breached the top 20 with 18th,16th, 17th place finishes. Pretty good start in my opinion. Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP’s Calvin Vlaanderen made it two overall podium finishes in a row with third at the MXGP of Lombok. Clearly comfortable in the hot and humid conditions and at one with his Yamaha YZ450FM machine, Vlaanderen fought hard for third in Race One before repeating that same result in Race Two. Jett Lawrence OUT, Broc Tickle IN for Redbud & MUCH MORE!
Breaking news here late tonight: Honda has announced Jett Lawrence suffered a thumb injury in a practice crash yesterday that will require surgery and force him to miss the remainder of the AMA ProMotocross Championship. His injury will require surgery and his goal is to return at the first SuperMotocross World Championship playoff round in Charlotte North Carolina. The Honda press release explains, Jett’s Torn UCL was incurred in a practice crash this week. Lawrence to undergo a procedure on Thursday Goal is to return for SuperMotocross title defense. Kawasaki test rider Broc Tickle is making his return to the AMA Pro Motocross Championship this weekend at the RedBud National. After not racing either an AMA Supercross or Motocross race since the 2021 Salt Lake City 2 Supercross, Tickle lost his national number, #20, to Maximus Vohland this year. So, Tickle will be #938 this weekend. His last Pro Motocross start came at the October 10, 2020, Fox Raceway National season finale when he was racing with Monster Energy Yamaha. Since then Tickle has been helping test the KX450SR race bike for Jason Anderson and the team and will race the RedBud National this weekend and a couple other select rounds with hopes of making progress with the race machine. Following a hard crash in the second 250 Class moto that caused a red flag and restart at the Southwick National Saturday, rookie Julien Beaumer will miss the round six RedBud National this weekend in Michigan. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider Julien Beaumer has been sidelined ahead of this weekend's sixth round of the 2024 AMA Pro Motocross Championship while he continues to recover from his crash in the 250MX Class at Southwick last Saturday. Some more unfortunate news tonight, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider and reigning 250 west supercross champ RJ Hampshire who has been out since round 1 of pro motocross after a press day crash has been eager to return to racing and hoped to be back for RedBud but unfortunately he is still recovering. Final story of the day is an MXGP World Championship one. Dutch athlete Roan Van de Moosdijk has secured another deal for the remainder of the 2024 season. He’s had a drama filled up and down year. He began the year out due to injury, but he was expected to return a few rounds into the season on the new Fantic Factory Racing machine. He then had a falling out with them that was very dramatic from both sides. Some bad blood between those to parties. After that he signed with Honda HRC as a fill in rider mid season. He finished 27-28 for 28th overall in Sardegna, then at his second race on the team in Trentino Italy he finished 28th again in the qualifying race on Saturday. On raceday he withdrew from the race. Soon thereafter Van De Moosdijk and Honda HRC parted ways and he has since been pretty silent. Smith DOCKED for failing sound test, Club MX explains PROBLEMS at Southwick & MORE!
Over the weekend at the Southwick National, Jordon Smith had his best results of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship so far, finishing 7-4 for seventh overall. His moto finishes were his best this season and his seventh overall was his first top ten overall this summer. His 7-4 moto finishes were going to land him fifth overall but unfortunately the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing suffered a three-point penalty after the second moto. Smith failed the AMA's sound test, which happened a few times on Saturday (his teammates Max Anstie and Daxton Bennick also failed, but the #31 machine failed the AMA sound test twice. So Club MX FXR Yamaha had some major problems at Southwick, especially in the 250 class. Just as the gates were about to drop on the restart, Mark Fineis was seen waving his hands with what looked like a bike issue. The rookie quickly pulled his bike out of his state gate and began pushing it behind the other gates with hopes of getting it bump-started before the race began. Unfortunately, Fineis was not able to race, and neither was his teammate Jett Reynolds. It was an odd situation to see two bikes have issues, especially after just one lap followed by a long break. I vividly remember sitting on the side of the track watching for these two after the restart, looking at the lap times on my phone going ‘where did Mark go? Wait, where is Jett? What? Both guys are out?! They were just out there!’ Firepower Honda’s Dean Wilson didn't intend on racing much Pro Motocross this summer but he did start off the season racing the Fox Raceway National, finishing 14th overall in an attempt to ensure he has enough SMX points to make it directly into the Playoffs later this fall. Well it looks like he’s getting too close for comfort. He currently stands 16th in SMX points standings and only the top 20 make it directly into the playoffs so he has made a last minute decision to race the RedBud National this weekend. The United States Native MX2 rider Jack Chambers has had a rough time acclimating to the world championship. He has been racing the MX2 world championship full time since 2023 and has been making progress here and there but overall he’s still been struggling. Well this weekend in Indonesia he made a step in the right direction. Jett POSSIBLY OUT, Beaumer INJURY UPDATE / CRASH & MUCH MORE!
The defending 450 pro motocross champion Jett Lawrence who now is tied with Chase Sexton for 2nd in points, only 3 points behind current points leader Hunter Lawrence, is now considering an MRI scan and possibly sitting out a few races depending on the results of said scan. Back at Hangtown Jett had the big one and luckily walked away relatively unscathed with a leg abrasion from the footpeg of his bike and what they believed at the time was a minor shoulder injury. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rookie Julien Beaumer had a scary crash in moto 2 of this weekend's Southwick National, luckily he only walked away with a concussion and is otherwise fine. Red Bull KTM said after the race, Beaumer is expected to enter the AMA concussion protocol this week, before it is determined whether or not he will be fit to enter round six of the 2024 season. Next story is regarding Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha’s Eli Tomac. I spoke about this in my most recent news video last week, Webb’s recovery is going much quicker than Tomac’s despite being out for a shorter period of time, with a similar injury. Before this weekend all we knew was that Webb was back on the bike and intended on returning to racing later this summer but we haven't heard much regarding Eli. Troy Lee Designs Red Bull GasGas 450 rider Justin Barcia will be sidelined for the next three rounds of the 2024 AMA Pro Motocross Championship, which is a move to allow his multiple knee injuries time to recover properly. Alright, the final story of the day is an MXGP one. So at the MXGP Of West Nusa Tenggara, Fantic Factory Racing rider Brian Bogers was off to a great start in qualifying, running around 3rd place for the first couple turns. Unfortunately he cased the crap out of a huge triple and when he did his shoulder popped out of socket and forced him out of the race. If you guys didnt see this, here’e that clip. Nichols & Beta SPLIT / SIGNING with HEP, Lupino is a COP!? & MUCH MORE!
Its been a rough start to the start of the 2024 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross season for the Club MX Yamaha rider Coty Schock. His performances were nowhere near what he had done in this year's Monster Energy Supercross series. He currently stands 14th in 250 Motocross points, but we did get a glimpse of the Schock we’ve been missing at High Point two weekends ago. In moto 1 he remained in the top 10 for most of the first moto until a mistake dropped him back, and in moto 2 he and his teammates got incredible starts but again he fell back to 13th overall on the day. Breaking news this week as Beta Motorcycles has announced the Liqui Moly Beta Racing Team and Colt Nichols have parted ways, effective immediately. Nichols suffered a preseason shoulder injury that kept him out for the first half of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship. The #45 eventually made seven starts aboard his Beta 450 RX, finishing with a season-best 11th at the season finale in Utah. In August 2023, Nichols signed a two-year deal to race for the all-new team as it joined the AMA Supercross and Motocross scene, but the two parties agreed to go their separate ways. Star Yamaha rider Cooper Webb has been out since the end of Supercross due to a thumb injury that required surgery. Since then his surgery went well and the recovery process went ahead of schedule actually, he is already back on the bike and ready to get back to full training in the coming weeks. With that being said his return is expected at Unadilla in just over a month according to Yamaha’s team manager Jeremy Coker. RIght now he is allowed to get back to riding but not fully. He will be riding the turn track for a couple weeks then he will slowly get himself acclimated to regular riding on the full size track. Here is Webb’s recent update and the first clip of him back on the bike! Triumph Factory MX2 rider Camden McLellan has been out for quite some time now due to a broken fibula he sustained two months ago in qualifying for the MXGP Of Portugal. This was really unfortunate news for the young south african as he had been having a heck of a first year on a factory team. He got his first podium in Sardegna which was also Triumph's second podium ever and after that he got 5th in Trentino before being injured in Agueda Portugal. For those of you who didn't see it, here was his initial injury update. Speaking of triumph lets move on to a story thats kinda flown under the radar and that is that Triumph has cancelled there plans on debuting the 450 in 2025. As you know that was there original plan, to start off with the 250 class in both the US & MXGP in 2024, develop the 450 and debut that bike in 2025 in both series as well. Well as of this week those plans are off. Last story of the day isn't so much a news story but more of a clarification of a question that both the media and the fans have been asking for awhile and that is what's the affiliation between Ducati rider Allessandro Lupino and the Italian Police? Since he singed with Ducati and I believe in his last season of MXGP as well he had an Italian Police logo across his jersey. For a while it was believed that he was sponsored by the Italian Polizia as they call it but he clarified this weekend that there wasn't a sponsorship. Roczen IS BACK, Anstie SIGNS w/ Star Yamaha & MUCH MUCH MORE!
Ken Roczen has been out since his gnarly crash back in supercross when his suspension failed in the whoops causing him to go flying over the handlebars, breaking his tibia plateau, foot and a toe. A couple weeks back he posted a video of him breaking doctors orders taking his first steps since the injury which led me to believe that he’d be out for a while longer. While I was at the races I was talking to people in the media tent and paddock and the rumor was that Kenny was back on the bike. At first I just laughed it off but then HEP Progressive Suzuki confirmed that Roczen will still be racing a few nationals this summer. Once they said that I was like ‘oh they weren't joking, he's already back on the bike!’ Austin Forkner announced a couple days back that he recently underwent a successful brain surgery to remove an arteriovenous malformation (AVM). Forkner had known of the issue but scans following his crash in Arlington revealed that matters had gotten worse, and he then had surgery last Monday to remove the blood vessel cluster. Alright onto an MXGP story, defending champion and title contender Jorge Prado was coming into last weekend’s GP in Maggiora with confidence and was hoping to take back the points lead from Tim Gajser. In moto 1 they had battled but Gajser got the best of him. In moto 2 Prado attempted to do what he does best and get out front early off the start and usually he has a pretty good track record with starts. Unfortunately for him this time it ended his day…. Prado came around the first corner around top 3 behind Gajser and just before the 2nd turn Valentin Guillod fell in front of him taking out Prado and a bunch of other guys. Here’s that crash from multiple angles. Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing have announced the signing of Max Anstie to a multi-year deal that will see the British rider debut for the team at the upcoming Southwick round of AMA Pro Motocross. The deal comes just one day after Anstie announced his departure from Fire Power Honda following a successful year and a half with the team. It had been rumored for some time that Anstie was linked to Star Racing for a deal in 2025, but the duo pulled the deal off sooner to get Anstie back behind the gate aboard a Yamaha. SX Global has finally launched the 2024 World Supercross Championship (WSX) schedule, set to span four rounds across three locations – Canada, Australia, and Abu Dhabi – beginning in late October. WSX has largely been up in the air following delays to the calendar release, apparent discontent among the existing teams, and the departure of former CEO Adam Bailey, however, SX Global has maintained that a schedule was in the works. Herlings is P***ED about MXGP safety / Dylan Wright INJURY UPDATE & MORE!
The 5 time world champ and freshly crowned 104 time GP race winner Jeffrey Herlings had a lot to say regarding the state of safety in the MXGP World Championship, and he’s a little pissed to say the least. Yesterday Herlings spoke with a Dutch media outlet Omroep Brabant (pronounced OOM ROOP Bra bant) which translates to Broadcasting Brabant and he expressed his concerns about safety, citing some pretty sketchy incidents from this year. Some of those incidents being 1: In Portugal the finish line jump was over a tunnel and off the side of the jump there wasn't anything preventing you from falling 30 feet onto the concrete walkway. 2: Henry Jacobi getting dragged off track while knocked out with multiple broken teeth in his mouth. 3: Pauls Jonass breaking his shoulder and the ontrack doctor not scanning it, insisting it was dislocated and trying to put his broken shoulder in place. At the second round of the Canadian MX Triple Crown Series at Lethbridge MX in Alberta, Canada, reigning 450cc Champion Dylan Wright had a scary crash in the second moto. Wright started 1-2 for second overall at the season opener and entered round two tied in points with KTM’s Jess Pettis, who went 2-1 for the overall win at the opener. At the second round, Wright claimed the moto win in the first race of the day then had a scary crash at high speed in the second race while leading. If you haven't seen his crash, here it is from a couple angles. The future of Carson Mumford has been made official after signing with Fire Power Honda, the newfound deal to commence effective immediately and span through the 2025 season. Mumford has transferred across to the Martin Davalos-led organization following a short stint at MCR Honda, and will effectively replace Max Anstie next year when he heads to Star Racing Yamaha – that move to be confirmed. Fire Power Honda has spring-boarded a mixture of riders to success since entering US competition under the ownership of Yarrive Konsky in 2020, with 22-year-old Mumford motivated to make a similar impact on the team’s CRF250R after claiming a best finish of fifth in San Francisco this season. Mumford’s signing also addresses speculation that the team wouldn’t be continuing into next year.
