Splice
by Travis Jenkins
It's so easy now for people to stay in their echo chambers and not have a dialogue about important issues. We all need to start addressing important issues and have difficult conversations. This podcast takes multiple viewpoints and "Splices" them together into one conversation while adding the millennial perspective. It could be two different sides of an argument or two different solutions to a problem, but all that matters is that we get the conversation started. You've Got Mail
In this episode, Erik Perrot and Jacob Salyer join me to discuss the issues that the US Postal Service (aka the Post Office) is currently going through. We go into what is causing the problems and discuss how they can potentially get themselves out of this mess. Just because the 2020 Election is over doesn't mean that we get to go back to not caring about the Post Office again. Heart of the Problem I
In this episode I discuss a couple of examples of how we’re trying to solve an issue by treating the symptom instead of the root cause. This new segment is what I’m calling “Are We Solving the Right Problem?”. In it, I focus specifically on how my mind was changed on switching exclusively to renewable energy to limit the impacts of climate change. To help make my point, I use a couple of analogies from my engineering background. The TED talk called “Why renewables can’t save the planet” by Michael Shellenberger was used as the inspiration for this episode. The Changing Social Construct
Nile Myers & Sean Carpenter call into the show to talk through the differences between Socialism & Capitalism as well as some of the nuances of both of those economic systems. The call from younger generations here in the United States has been starting to grow louder within the last few years of wanting to shift our economic system in a more socialistic way. A lot of of people still don't fully know the all of the in's & out 's between the two so it would be good to shed some light on this societal issue. Generational Gap Part 2
Jessie Newburn, author of The Uber Chronicles & Surviving Burning Man: A Packing List for First-Timers, joins me to talk about generations. We begin by discussing her recent work starting Generations Work to help companies bring generational intelligence into the work place. She gives us some insight into the Struass-Howe Generational Theory and the "archetypes" that are mentioned within this theory. We end with a bold prediction of what each generation will do moving forward out of the Covid-19 Pandemic. We then go through what one can expect to experience at Burning Man from a high level. Part 1 of the discussion focuses on getting to know Jessie's background and some of her endeavors prior to starting Generations Work. Too Human
In the last episode of the season, I spend some time discussing a major duality I see in human nature. A good analogy for this duality is the story of the Hawaiian goddess Pele which is where the monologue begins. There have been a LOT of destructive things that we have done that linger in history, but it hasn't all been terrible. I end with arguing that we all should focus more on the positive creation side of human nature moving forward before finally asking you (the listeners) for feedback on the podcast. Lighten Up I
I talk with Keaton Greeley and Kyle Babiak about the transition from College into the real world and some of pros/cons of each. We then transition to less formal topics...reminiscing about some of our favorite stories from college in the first installment of the segment called “College Corner”. With so many more serious topics that Splice covers, it's nice to change up the pace a little and have some fun. Revenge of the Stuff
I sat down with Rob Olson and Allison Murner to discuss how the millennial generation is dealing with starting to inherit stuff from our parents and in some cases a LOT of it . We touch on the NY Times article "Aging Parents With Lots of Stuff, and Children Who Don't Want It" and tell about our own experiences. It might come down to our parents might cherish the stuff more than we do, so that creates quite an interesting conundrum. Which is exactly why this topic was requested by one of the listeners. Circular State of Mind
I start by talking about recycling here in the United States (US) & how a lot of people may not know that some of your recyclables don’t end up where you think they do. I touch on how China’s “National Sword” policy has affected US recycling & how things look moving forward. Talyr Brayer then joins me to talk about the Zero Waste Movement & some of the key takeaways from the Ice on Fire documentary. If you do have feedback or ideas for future episodes, shoot a note to [email protected] or on Twitter @ThatsSoJENK.

How Have We Let the Planet Get to This?
I take a solo dive into the current state of our planet's environment & the topic of global climate change which is one of the biggest threats to life on Earth. Listeners will be guided through some of the dire climate change news facing us right now & on how everyone is really to blame for how we got to where we are now. Last but not least, the final stop on this journey is where I discuss some of the positive things that have happened & are happening to make our planet/environment a cleaner & greener place. Mental Fortitude...from the Mind of a College Student
Julia Aminov & Nile Myers join me to touch on mental health from a college student and fledgling adult perspective. Mental health affects everyone in some way or another, but more people than you would think deal with mental illnesses and struggle with their psychological well-being. Our discussion brings to light that it's ok to admit when you're in a "funk" and gives some tips on what can help deal with these situations. "Stuffitis" & Amazon’s Rapid Growth
We begin by covering the background of the podcast & why it came into existence. I then talk about the problem most people have with "stuffitis", otherwise known as accumulating things that you don't need. Sean Carpenter & Cameron Taylor join me to discuss whether or not there is anything to fear with Amazon's rapid growth. If you do have feedback or ideas for future episodes, shoot a note to [email protected] or on Twitter @ThatsSoJENK.
