What you say and what you don’t say are both important. Proper speech is not only saying the right words at the right time but it’s also controlling your desire to say what you shouldn’t. Examples of an untamed tongue include gossiping, putting others down bragging, manipulating false teaching, exaggerating, complaining, flattery and lying before you speak you should ask yourself is what I want to say true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? James compares the damage of the tongue to a raging fire. The tongue’s wickedness has its source in hell itself. The uncontrolled tongue can do terrible damage. Satan uses the tongue to divide people and pit them against one another. Idle and hateful words are damaging because they spread destruction quickly and no one can stop the results once they’re spoken. We dare not be careless with what we say thinking we can apologize later because even if we do, the scars remain. A few words, spoken in anger, can destroy a relationship that took years to build before you speak. Remember that words are like fire you can neither control no reverse the damage they can do.

NOTE TO SELF.To learn to shut my mouth... I mean that takes divineintervention. I talk when I am happy. I talk when I am sad. I talk when I amangry. I talk.My incessant talking is annoying, sure. I can see that.That’s a fair statement. When I am angry or sad - it is just not okay to speak.Ever. I know that by now. Yet… talk I do.The only purpose of any communication from me at this pointis just to build others up. If I cannot do that – again… shut my mouth.We have to ask ourselves this question: “Is it helpful, kindand honest?” Helpful based on what? Does it nourish another soul. Kind, meaningwhat? Would Jesus say it, and use that tone? How to possibly be honest… Not allpeople are safe to be honest with. In the Bible, rebuke means to strongly criticizeor correct someone's behavior with the ultimate goal of bringing them torepentance, spiritual growth, and a restored relationship with God. Ratherthan just expressing anger, a biblical rebuke is an act of discipline meant tostop harmful choices and promote righteousness.The goal is to correct and restore, not to shame or teardown. Believers are instructed to ensure their own motives are pure (not rootedin pride or hypocrisy) before correcting others, ideally addressing the issuewith gentleness and respect. Temptation is not always sexual sin. It can be. Buttemptation is also any other thing that would cause you to want to step outside of the guidelines that God has set for us. What we want to do and know ahead of time we should not. I am tempted to get angry when I am tired, hungry, lonelyand scared. Stupid to type that being angry gives me satisfaction... And the consequences last a minute...What we have to do is decide NOW what we will do when weface it. Prepare for it, because it is coming. How will I act on whatever that temptation is? How will you?Temptation is harmful. Websters: "psychological desireor enticement to engage in short-term urges for immediate gratification, even when it conflicts with your long-term goals, ethical principles, or well-being".

Jesus never said we should not have feelings. Jesus hadfeelings. He wept when His friends were hurting. He wept for Jerusalem. To believe that we are not afforded the ability to have a feeling is a lie brought on by the enemy.And... Just because others do not have feelings, does notmean yours have no merit. I say all the time that facts are facts and feelings don't matter. Meaning, feelings without the facts are invalid. A feeling brought on based on fact is.Does that mean we should throw a fit and let our emotions goon a rampage? No. It is not going to benefit anyone, and it is not going to resolve your circumstance. I did just that and my circumstance is still the same. And if my cause would have any validity, it does not now.We must guard our hearts. We must guard our most importantrelationships outside of our relationship with Jesus. We have no control over anyone else and the guarding of their heart. We cannot force that, persuade that, love someone into that. We can only talk to God about that and know thatHe has the power of truth. We must not let that detour us from what our goal is. We cannot force another person to have boundaries to what causes them to sin. Even if we are boundaried out of someone’s life that is otherwiseboundaryless - it is still just not our job. We are to stay the course with God. Otherwise, our resentment and hurt cause us to sin. This is not to say that at some point you shouldn't enforceyour boundaries (as painful as that may be). And that is not to say that you are to build walls so that you are locked in a cell (absolutely not). What we should be doing is talking to God about it. He will set our path straight with no confusion. God knows everything already. He knows their hearts and he knows yours. There is no way to twist a narrative there... So... While our circumstances may not change, our hearts will.Jesus Christ and eternity are our goal. Things of this earthwill all disappear. If you don’t matter, you don’t matter. But remember this – Jesus Christ died on a cross for you. That alone makes you worthy. Nothing on planet earth should make you feel small knowing that truth. 

Why do I adore the "Jesus has left my body" phrase? I love it because it is a reminder that I am human. I am not in controlof this world, other people or myself (most of the time). It is a reminder that I can give myself grace and come back to Jesus. I can do better. I can acknowledge that whatever my action was is covered by the Blood and I am forgiven as soon as I ask. I ask in total surrender and repent (meaning turn from...never to do it again) and Jesus is faithful to forgive.A person said to me the other day that I am the reason thatChristians do not want to be Christians.That is a weighty statement. You can probably say any otherthing on this planet to me and I will proceed with my life. But that statement? That is a deal killer. That is a 'souls will be lost for Jesus' kingdom because I am not representing it well' statement.Mean is mean and hateful is hateful - and one of two thingsare present at that time:Either you don't know Jesus, or He has left your body.I know that I know Jesus. I know that He corrects me andloves me. I know that He gave me the Holy Spirit to guide my path. And I know that I fail - a lot. Sometimes my words and actions are not that of the Holy Spirit. When people see those unfortunate acts, I must immediately take that to God and let Him work on the resolution.Jesus offers that for everyone. And then add in the bonus ofeternal life with Him! Live life, and live it abundantly. Turn your grief, sorrow and without over to Him. He can handle it. He has been there.
