Strength For The Way

In our final study on the resurrection of Jesus, Roger Duncan focuses on what seeing the resurrected Lord did in the life of James, His half-brother, Simon Peter, and the two Christ-followers who were traveling on the road to Emmaus. Each of these received something significant in their lives after Jesus rose from the grave. James received the faith to believe in Jesus, Simon Peter received forgiveness and restoration for his denial of Christ, and the two on the road to Emmaus received the fire of God in their hearts. As we approach Easter weekend, Christ offers each of these things to us for our lives as well.

Before Jesus' resurrection, many of them struggled with believing, trusting, and boldness, but after seeing the resurrected Savior, they became courageous, filled with faith, and displayed a willingness to even die for the cause of Christ.

In this final episode in our series on "Why We Believe In Jesus," Roger gives us the final reason we should be confident in our faith in Christ - it is because of the marvelous things we have seen Him do in our lives, from a personal perspective. Roger gives personal testimony to some of the blessings in His life that could only be explained as having come from the loving and faithful hand of the Lord. Each of us, as believers, have similar stories of the Lord's deeds in our lives as well, and it is His desire that we share our testimonies with others, as we strive to reach others with the truth of the gospel.

In part 4 of our series, Roger Duncan shares the third reason for "Why We Believe In Jesus" - it's because of the ministry and presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Roger shares some verses from | John 5:6-10 to help us recognize how the Holy Spirit is a credible witness, when it comes to testifying about Jesus in our lives. Within these verses, we find a very logical truth which tells us that if we can accept, believe and trust the word of mortal men, we should certainly be able to accept, believe, and trust the word of a perfect God.

In our third devotional in this series, Roger gives us the fourth reason why Christ followers can rely on, and trust in, the Scriptures - it is because of the Bible's accuracy. Jesus Christ is THE theme of God's Word, and all throughout the Old Testament, we find various types, symbols, and pictures of our Savior. The stories and events recorded in the Bible point to the Lord's coming to earth, His redemptive work, His role in the lives of His children, and His eventual return.

In Part 2 of our series on Why We Believe In Jesus, Roger shares three of the four reasons why believers can be confident in the reliability of the Scriptures. Not only do the fulfilled prophecies in the Bible prove its credibility, but its unity and longevity do as well. When one considers the fact that a number of the prophecies were actually fulfilled by enemies of Jesus, how the Bible was written, and how it continues to exist despite unrelenting efforts from adversaries to destroy it, there is no other explanation for its uniqueness than divine revelation.

The devil desires for us to look horizontally to discover our identity, but God has created us to vertically to Him to find our value and self-worth. Roger invites us to consider this question, "Who or what is the loudest voice in your life speaking to you and influencing your identity?"
