Sermon - "Until being strong is your only choice" - Pastor Jazz Cathcart

“You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.”  -Genesis 50:20   I can only imagine the mental, emotional, and spiritual strength it took for a 38 year-old dad to cling to his two daughters, the hope of surviving, and his small engine airplane that had crashed down into a freezing lake close to the Kenai (kin-NYE) Peninsula in Alaska in March of 2025.  Can you imagine the surprise when locals in the area had gotten word from a post on Facebook that the plane had gone off radar in a cloudy, windy area? A Good Samaritan pilot named Terry Godes responded, saw the small airplane down in the freezing water off in the distance, and was both shocked and relieved when he saw the three frostbitten survivors standing on the wings of the plane waving their arms.  Not knowing if anybody even knew they were missing, much less coming to the rescue, it was the will to survive and save his two princesses that kept this father from giving in to his natural limits and dying before time.  It was Bob Marley who said, “You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice.” We have to be willing to go to great lengths to do great things.  Going great lengths requires a different mindset and a resilience that emerges from walking with God and clinging to Him in such a way that we don’t break before our breakthrough.  This is precisely what we find in Genesis chapter 50. Young Joseph had been betrayed, beat up, beat down, and put through the blender for more than twenty years before it all turned into Heaven. God Himself was divinely interacting with all that had happened in Joseph’s brutally difficult life in order to put him in position to fulfill His massive, life-giving purposes. But Joseph’s resilience was not random. It had emerged from a reality. Joseph had learned to walk with God, to cling to Him, and to draw strength, hope, and wisdom that was not his own. We must learn to do the same in our Rabbi’s School of Greatness.  The Gospel reveals to us that God Himself has gone to great lengths to save humanity and to reconcile the wayward Universe back to Himself, by working with and through each of us, as a part of His story. And at the epicenter of His story, we find a Man… our Rabbi and Redeemer… on a Cross who didn’t break until He said, “It is finished”. ------------ Hope City Fellowship is an authentically Christian, intentionally-diverse church plant based in Asheville, North Carolina that officially launched in November 2021.  Our mission- "Glorifying God by making mature, multiplying, world-changing disciples of Jesus who carry Gospel-hope!" Sermon - "The family of God has our own theme music and it's called GRACE" - Pastor Jazz Cathcart

“But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions- it is by grace you have been saved.”  -Ephesians 2:4-5 NIV Starbucks unleashed some really hilarious commercials a few years ago, showcasing a live rock band following seemingly average corporate America employees at work, playing a specialized rendition of “Eye of the Tiger” featuring their own name and success-narrative in the song! The message?… “Drinking a Starbucks coffee turns the ordinary into awesome… and drinking Starbucks is just like having a rock band thunder your own theme music to start the day!” Theme music.  There is something so powerful about it. Whether it is the Undertaker coming out to chokeslam his next victim at Wrestlemania, the Samoan national rugby team getting ready to take the field, or the beginning of your favorite t.v. show during the glory days of T.G.I.F. Come on! Who knows about vegging out on pizza and the latest episodes of Full House, Family Matters, and Step by Step?!!! I’m an 80’s baby and those were the GOOD ole’ days!!!!! Theme music sets an atmosphere, says that something significant is about to happen, or someone significant is coming- so pay ATTENTION!!!!!  When we read Ephesians chapter 2 verses 1 through 10, we see that the family of God has our own theme music and it is called… GRACE.  It is the music that we play to begin our day. It is also the background instrumental that shapes the atmosphere of our minds and hearts. It tells us that whose, who, and what we are doing is important, and turns the ordinary into awesome. Grace is the unearned commitment and kindness of God Himself to people who deserve one thing but get another because of love. It empowers us to walk in the not-so-easy yet absolutely needed good works that God has orchestrated for us to do as we treat people the way we ourselves are treated by God in Christ.  The next time God calls you to be or do something that is needed but not easy- by the Spirit of God inside of you, hear Him say… “Somebody cue My theme music”.

Sermon - "I'm Dressed For Success" - Pastor Jazz Cathcart

"And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes." -Galatians 3:27 There is a lot of psychology in how we dress.  Miucia Prada, granddaughter of the founder of the Prada brand said, "What you wear is how you PRESENT yourself to the world.” "Primetime" Deion Sanders famously said, "When you look good, you feel good. When you feel good, you play good. And when you play good, they PAY good!" In this sermon, Pastor Jazz agrees and also suggests that what you wear says something about the way you PERCEIVE your own self. He contends that it is also a powerful means by which we position ourselves inwardly for success and to seize the day.  But this conversation gets most interesting and impactful in its relationship to the Gospel. The Apostle Paul says that all believers in Christ have been given the freshest fit known in existence... the perfect righteousness of Christ Jesus. This gives us total access to the Banquet Hall of God Himself and powerfully shapes how we live out our day to day lives for His glory. ............ Sermon - "... but Abba Said Be at Peace with All Men" - Pastor Jazz Cathcart

"Do all that you can to be at peace with all men." -Romans 12:18 On September the 4th, 1957, a fifteen year old African American young woman named Dorothy Counts walked into Harry Hardin High School in Charlotte, North Carolina along with the three other black teenagers for the first time in the newly de-segregated Southern school. She was met by a crowd of white students as well as adults spewing racial slurs, throwing stones, and literally spitting at her. Forty-nine years later, in 2006... a Sunday School teacher at Assurance United Methodist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina asked his senior citizen class members if anyone had a story to tell about dealing with a sin of omission.  Woody Cooper raised his hand and said two words: "Dorothy Counts".  He had been in the crowd on that fateful day that Dorothy Counts walked into Harry Hardin High School, was actually filmed making a monkey face at her, and had been consumed with conviction and deep regret for 49 years.  What followed became a story of repentance, reaching out, and reconciliation that mirrors the powerful story of Jacob and Esau reuniting and finding peace all the way back in Genesis chapter thirty-three.   In this sermon, Pastor Jazz speaks on how fulfilling Jesus' call to be peacemakers requires mastering peace within oneself... by virtue of encountering the Prince of Peace Himself. ............ A Unitarian Universalist and a Christian Pastor Walk Into a Bar - Jazzion Cathcart

I met and made friends with Karen while having lunch in town with one of my best friends. I told her, "Let's talk more on my podcast channel!" I started this podcast in part so that my audience could have a window into people with different convictions having conversations like this one about the big issues. I am a passionate Follower of Jesus... and I take His loving command to share the Gospel and to tactfully challenge people and perspectives in order to shine the light of God's Kingdom and grace seriously!  The video you are seeing is the first of what I hope will be MORE with Karen who is a Unitarian Universalist... meaning she doesn't believe there is a Hell, or a Devil, or that Jesus is the Divine Son of God, or the only way to God.  Karen, THANK you for having a discussion with me. God bless you and may He help us all come to know truth and build our life on it.  Let me know what you'd like to see us engage in this podcast next time!

Sermon - "Do you actually WANT to get well?" - Sign Language the Series - Pastor Jazzion Cathcart

Bible Reference: John 5:1-18 “I can’t, sir,” the sick man said, “for I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up." Jesus asked a man who had become debilitatingly sick and lived as a beggar- barely scraping by for thirty eight YEARS... a powerful and offensive question.  "Do you want to get well?" Let's be honest. It's easier to stay stuck in our station of life and to remain in our comfortable dysfunction than it is to get up and walk in all that God has for us. That's because getting up requires sacrifice and an overhaul of all that we've come to experience as our home and identity. However, Jesus reveals that God is in the business of provoking our comforts and commitments if they keep us from Him and all that He has intended for us and for His glory.  ................. Sermon - "Wait, what was your last name again?" - Sign Language - Pastor Jazz Cathcart

Bible Reference:  John 2:1-11 We are in week one of a fresh new series called "Sign Language: The Gospel according to John". There was nobody this side of Glory closer to the Jesus than John. And in his biography of Jesus' life, ministry, death, and resurrection, he shares seven of Jesus' miracles that he says were "signs"... miracles with a message... supernatural exploits that point to something beyond the miracle itself and reveal something significant about Jesus and His salvation.  The first miracle was Jesus attending a wedding and reception where the wine supply ran completely out.  What happened next reveals that reaching for Jesus is far superior than reaching for that drink. God sent His Son into the world because the Messiah brings true recreation... fun, gladness of heart, pleasure, peace, and the means to deal with our pain- without the grief and regret.   Message by Pastor Jazz Cathcart, November 2025, during a Hope City Fellowship Sunday Service in Asheville, NC. Sermon - "Capsized with a Coke" - Secret Society - Pastor Jazzion Cathcart

Bible Reference: 1 Samuel 30:1-20 "...but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God." -1st Samuel 30:6c In 2013, what happened to Harrison Okene of Nigeria"made international headlines. Serving as a cook on a tugboat off the coast of Nigeria, a massive wave hit the boat causing it to completely capsize and sink to the bottom of the ocean floor trapping Okene in an air pocket inside the vessel. Within minutes Harrison heard the voices of his eleven fellow crew members go deafly silent as they perished in the carnage. Minutes turned to hours, and then to three long days in the dark, cold, upside down world of the tugboat where Harrison had only a Coca-Cola and a prayer that somehow God could save Him.  One can only imagine the feeling Okene had when deep sea divers searching for the boat came with light pouring from their head lamps and found him alive- rescuing him.  Between the time that David was anointed to be Israel's next king, and the time where he was appointed to rule, David was constantly on the run from Saul's army. When a thug-militia of Amelekites raided his home village of Ziklag, kidnapping he and his men's wives and children, his once faithful men turned on him and deliberated killing him. 1st Samuel 30:6 says that David, on the brink of being completely overwhelmed and killed, "encouraged himself in the Lord His God" and found light, strength, and total salvation.  ................ Everybody is NOT a child of God... It's based on this CONDITION - Jazzion Cathcart

I met and made a new friend last week and our conversation included her saying to me, "I don't agree with any such idea that God judges or condemns people. I believe we are ALL God's children." Unfortunately my friend is WRONG.  And we got to talk about it.  In order for you to BECOME one of God's children, you have to understand that because of your SIN, you are actually one of His ENEMIES.  But the Gospel is GREAT news for sinners! How do you deal with all the hate? How do you not take others feelings as your identity?" - Jazzion Cathcart

In this video, I answer a question I got recently from a dear sister I treasure and love who also happens to be a member of the congregation I am blessed to pastor. She has observed the heavy and even hateful things so many have said to, and about, yours truly- surrounding me expressing my thoughts and feelings about Charlie Kirk.  She asks, "How do you deal with all the hate? How do you not take others feelings as your identity?" I believe that what I share in this video will add great value to your life...  especially those of you who- like my dear sister-queen, find yourself feeling moved to be much more bold and outspoken for Jesus Christ, His Kingdom, and God's purposes for YOUR life in this world.  "Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but overcome evil with good." -Romans 12:21   If you have a question you would like me to answer on my podcast, or if you would like to engage with me on a recorded zoom call about a specific topic, shoot me an email and let's talk!   [email protected]

Bible Reference: Mark 1:40-45 King George VII made a prestigious appearance and gave hs royal blessing as an important hospital was being built. The momentous occasion was accompanied by beautiful music sang by school children who were wonderfully excited to have the honor of seeing the king of England himself. After the event concluded a schoolteacher noticed that one of her students was crying and she asked her, "What's the matter dear child? Didn't you see the king today?" The girl replied, "Yes, but he didn't see me." How 15 Minutes of Reflection Each Day Has Greatly Improved My Life - Jazzion Cathcart

Many people rush into their day... even into PRAYER... running past the treasures and riches that are available to each of us if we would spend just a few minutes each day reflecting on the day before... the week before... the season before.  May God give you grace to grow, thrive, and prosper in His purposes for your life.

Young Ray losing his ability to SEE, gave him the ability to SENSE in ways that he never could have otherwise. His limitation SERVED him as the backdrop to becoming one of the greatest music artists of all time.  This is the nature of fasting... denying oneself food and/or other pleasurable things in order to strengthen one's spirit and draw closer to God Himself.  Fasting has both physical and spiritual benefits and was a part of Jesus Christ's own journey through the wilderness and temptation to making an impact on the world that has forever changed history and altered the future of the Universe for the glory of God.  Advisory: Please consult a medical professional before fasting if you have any physical concerns or issues that could be negatively impacted by going extended periods without food.  May God bless and increase you, and give you grace to prosper in all of His purposes for your life.  Message by Pastor Jazzion Cathcart in July 2025 during a Hope City Fellowship Sunday Service in Asheville, NC hopecityfellowship.org

Without JESUS... you won't get CREDIT for all the GOOD that you've done - Jazzion Cathcart

I had the blessing of both visiting a new friend who recently got out of the hospital anddddddddd sharing the GOSPEL with him.  One of the things we got to discuss... something that I needed to INSIST about with him... was that without JESUS, we will not get any credit for all the GOOD we've done because doing GOOD doesn't pay for the WRONG that we've committed and harbored in our hearts.  It doesn't work that way in a regular court of law.  And it doesn't work that way in God's court of law, of which we all have an appointment to stand before the Judge of all the world when we die.  I pray that this video gives you insight, understanding, and encouragement... to repent of your sins and receive Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, Satisfier, Leader, and Lord if you haven't... or to share the GOOD NEWS of His reality and Kingdom if you already hit the lottery of His Grace! This is 'all that JAZZION' and it's my goal to share the WEALTH and help people WIN... especially in their relationship with God! May He BLESS and INCREASE you

Sermon - The Holy Spirit: a lot vs a little - Pastor Jazz Cathcart

Bible Reference: Ephesians 5:15-20 & Galatians 5:16 Having a LITTLE bit of something versus having a whole LOT of something can make a massive difference.  Think about money.  When you are barely getting by paying your bills, you feel and move one way. Yes, your bills are paid and you have somewhere to live. But the stress, anxiety, and uncertainty is daunting.  But when you are doing extremely WELL financially and you have the means and freedom to not only pay your bills, but to eat where you want to, to bless somebody with the proverbial "golden handshake", to serve the destitute among us, and even mess around and go on a nice vacation that is stress-free... the entire experience is completely night and day. That's because having a LITTLE bit of something is very different from having a whole LOT of something.  In this sermon, Pastor Jazz impactfully preaches and teaches about how there is a difference between HAVING the Holy Spirit of God by trusting and following the Savior Jesus Christ, versus being FILLED with the Holy Spirit of God as you trust and follow the Savior and make room for the Spirit to fill you.  The Apostle Paul told the Ephesians,  "Don't be drunk [filled] with wine because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit." As Shakespeare so powerfully depicted in his masterpiece Othello, deep and desirous in the heart of every man is the yearning for freedom... to do what one pleases without unnecessary restraint and restriction.  The God of the Gospel not only imputes righteousness so that we might be FORGIVEN, but He unshackles and empowers us so that we might be FREE.  ...Free from religion gone bad, free from the slavery of the lusts of the flesh... and free to be abundant as we join God in blessing the world in Jesus' Name as those who are FULL of the One who liberates.  What could you do with a wholeeeee lot of LOVE?... JOY... PEACE... PATIENCE.... KINDNESS... GOODNESS... GENTLENESS... FAITHFULNESS... and SELF-CONTROL?   Message by Pastor Jazzion Cathcart in June 2025 during a Hope City Fellowship Sunday Service in Asheville, NC hopecityfellowship.org

Sermon - "Allow Me To Reintroduce Myself" - Clash of The Titans - Pastor Jazz Cathcart

Bible Reference:  Galatians 1:11-24 The Apostle Paul in chapter 1 of his letter to the Galatians, In his quest to bring them back into Gospel forgiveness and freedom, he explains, "I used to be the world's most vehement opponent of the Gospel message, Messiah, and movement. Now I'm its most passionate champion." But WHY?! Very much a Harriet Tubman before there WAS a Harriet Tubman, Paul couldn't just leave those he once brought into life and liberty in Christ in their slavery- despite the fact that they caused him so much ongoing grief. The reason is that the same Being who intercepted, saved, and liberated him, also COMMISSIONED him to fight for the Freedom of others... and Jesus has done the same FOR and TO us.  Sermon Points: Connection - Commission   Message by Pastor Jazzion Cathcart in May 2025 during a Hope City Fellowship Sunday Service in Asheville, NC hopecityfellowship.org

"Does God Condemn People To HELL For Being Gay?" - Jazzion Cathcart Takes Your Questions

I got a question from a bright and passionate young woman who identifies as an ex-Christian, radical feminist, pro-LGBT advocate who genuinely wants to know if God condemns people to Hell for being gay. Check out my answer.  I believe you'll find it to be very considerate, comprehensive, biblical, real, and redemptive.  And I think it has insight that will help you understand the wisdom of God who loves all people and deeply desires to redeem and reconcile all things to Himself through Christ.  May God bless you.    If you have a question you would like me to answer on my podcast, or if you would like to engage with me on a recorded zoom call about a specific topic, shoot me an email and let's talk!   [email protected]

Why Most People's Prayer Life SUCKS!....and how You Can 10x Yours TODAY! - Jazzion Cathcart

Most people believe in God. But most people's prayer life SUCKS!  I'm convinced that laziness is NOT the primary culprit although it IS an issue for many! I have found that most people's prayer life is trash because they don't know HOW to pray in a robust way. And they are in pretty good company. Jesus' own disciples asked Him to teach THEM to pray the same way John the Baptizer's disciples needed him to teach THEM how to pray well (Luke 11:1-4).  In this video, I share some encouragement, information, personal experience, and uberrrrrrr practical advice that I've gained from God via some incredible resources that I believe will change your LIFE! This is 'all that JAZZION' and it's my goal to share the WEALTH and help people WIN for GOOD and for God's GLORY.  May He BLESS and INCREASE you!
