Throughout her career she has recognized the importance of being reliable and consistent in producing work for galleries, while at the same time following her own passions. When you walk into their space you’ll see that they have a lovely selection of art, gifts, and other gorgeously curated items for sale in their shop. They also have a smartly designed modular work table with benches that allows them to use the space for a variety of gatherings - from hand weaving, to ceramics, to floral arrangement classes and more. They are leaders in the local community with their monthly “Makers Markets” showcasing a different group of local artisans each month, and participating in the Sellwood “4th Fridays” with drop-in handbuilding ceramics workspace and beverages to sip on. They also swap out the art on display every eight weeks, and host openings for the featured artist. Considering that my daughter turned 4 the week of this episode, this feels triumphant. I’m so appreciative of this opportunity to show a new body of work! This collection of new paintings was made possible in part by a grant from The Regional Arts and Culture Council and I’m so happy to see all 33 paintings up! And installing these paintings on Sunday at Providence Portland Medical Center, in the gallery space between the main hospital and the cancer center gallery in a space that is curated by Portland artist Seth Nehill. But also about how painting with my daughter makes for more interesting work (in addition to being blissful and exponentially messier for my workspace). I also share that I had a rejection today that stings, a gig I’d been planning on and got my hopes up about and I share that I had to decline a project I’d really love to have done because I have standard rates and can’t take on work that doesn’t meet my minimum rates.
