Bron Watson | Two Diagnoses, One Powerful Shift

Bron Watson, a nurse, educator, and entrepreneur, shares how her life before cancer was driven by constant giving—to her patients, her business, and her family. Despite appearing successful, the pace came at a personal cost. At 48, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, followed quickly by surgery and treatment. Even during chemotherapy, she continued pushing herself until she had a moment of clarity: continuing at that pace could cost her life. That experience became a turning point, forcing her to reevaluate how she was living and reconnect with herself. She later faced a second, unrelated diagnosis—incurable blood cancer—which brought an entirely new level of emotional and physical challenges. Unlike her first experience, where she felt the need to stay strong for everyone else, this time she allowed herself to be vulnerable, especially with her children. She emphasizes the importance of feeling emotions fully, rather than suppressing them, and learning to create space between what’s happening and how we respond.A central theme in Bron’s journey is the power of intuition. She recalls ignoring inner signals before her first diagnosis and now strongly encourages others to listen to their bodies and instincts. She also advocates for becoming an active participant in your own care—building a trusted team, asking questions, and making aligned decisions rather than passively following a plan.Through her work, including The Serenity Project, Bron focuses on helping people reconnect with themselves so they can choose a healing path that feels right for them. She believes healing comes from within and isn’t about fighting illness, but moving through it with intention and awareness. Her approach blends science with self-awareness, encouraging people to trust themselves, stay present, and focus on the “next step” rather than trying to control the entire outcome.Ultimately, Bron’s message is about resilience, presence, and self-trust. She believes resilience can be learned over time and reminds others to “be where your feet are”—coming back to the present moment, especially during fear or uncertainty.Website https://serenityproject.com.au/Facebook https://www.facebook.com/bronwatsonmeInstagram https://www.instagram.com/bron_watson/LinkedIn www.linkedin.com/in/bronwatsonThe Cancer Liberation Project is sponsored by thekarlfekdtcenter.com

Dr. Jason Miller | Integrating Chinese Medicine in Cancer Care

Dr. Miller is a doctor of acupuncture and Chinese medicine, medical educator, lecturer, writer, formulator, and musician. In 2005, he graduated from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine's, "Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine" program, and then in 2018 completed his "Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine" degree at the Pacific College of Health and Science. Post-graduation from OCOM in 2005 he spent 2 months in Nanjing, China where he completed a clinical internship at Nanjing’s acclaimed, “House of Celebrity Doctors.” For the past 20 years, Dr Miller has devoted a large part of his time and energy to working closely with patients with cancer and chronic disease, often working collaboratively with his patients and their medical teams. He has worked with the Mederi Foundation for the past 18 years and he currently serves as Head of Faculty and Content Development for the Mederi Academy. In this episode, Dr. Jason Miller shares his journey from conventional pre-med studies into Chinese medicine, driven by a desire to understand health beyond a purely reductionist, scientific lens. He explains how Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) views the body as an interconnected system of energy, balance, and patterns, rather than isolated parts. Using principles like yin and yang, heat and cold, and excess versus deficiency, practitioners assess imbalances and work to restore harmony through tools like acupuncture, herbal medicine, and lifestyle changes—often integrating modern diagnostics like imaging and genomics to create a more comprehensive approach. The conversation explores how this integrative model can support individuals facing cancer by addressing not just the disease itself, but the body’s internal environment. Dr. Miller discusses concepts like blood stagnation, oxygenation, and the tumor microenvironment, highlighting how certain herbs and natural compounds may help improve circulation, reduce side effects, and enhance treatment outcomes when used alongside conventional therapies. He also emphasizes the importance of individualized care, weighing the “cost of cure” versus long-term disease management, and encouraging patients to take time to gather information and make aligned decisions.Beyond physical treatments, a major focus is placed on the role of emotional, mental, and spiritual health in healing. Chronic stress, unresolved emotions, and disconnection from one’s authentic self can disrupt the body’s balance and weaken resilience. Dr. Miller encourages patients to cultivate calm, stay present in their bodies, and engage in activities that bring joy and a sense of flow. Ultimately, healing is framed as a multidimensional process—one that integrates medical care with lifestyle, mindset, and a deeper connection to self. For more information, go to Jasonamiller.com and https://cedar.aetherportal.one/offeringsThe Cancer Liberation is sponsored by thekarlfeldtcenter.com

Dr. Nathan Goodyear | A New Approach to Cancer

Dr. Goodyear is a Board-Certified OB/GYN and a leading expert in integrative oncology with nearly two decades of experience blending conventional and holistic cancer therapies. He has served as medical director for multiple integrative cancer clinics, authored three books—including Breaking the Cancer Code—and is a sought-after speaker and podcaster on innovative treatments like high-dose IV vitamin C, Precision Therapy Stacking, and Low-Dose Metronomic Chemotherapy. Dr. Goodyear is dedicated to empowering both patients and physicians through education, advocacy, and cutting-edge care. This conversation explores Dr. Nathan Goodyear’s journey from a conventional OB/GYN background into integrative oncology, shaped by both professional curiosity and personal experience. Early in his career, he began questioning the “one-size-fits-all” approach of traditional medicine after recognizing that many patients were not fully helped by standard protocols. Influenced by a compounding pharmacist and a growing interest in personalized care, he gradually incorporated integrative therapies into his practice. His path deepened after facing his own life-threatening adrenal tumor, an experience that reshaped his perspective as both a physician and a patient, ultimately leading him to fully dedicate his work to integrative cancer care.Dr. Goodyear shares an optimistic and forward-looking vision for the future of cancer treatment, emphasizing therapies that engage and train the immune system rather than suppress it. He discusses emerging innovations such as intratumoral therapies that directly target tumors while activating immune responses, as well as the growing importance of the gut microbiome in both treatment and prevention. According to Dr. Goodyear, the microbiome plays a foundational role in immune health, with factors like diet, birth method, antibiotics, and lifestyle contributing to long-term cancer risk. He believes that future breakthroughs will come not only from advanced treatments but also from early intervention strategies that address these underlying drivers before disease develops. The episode also highlights the importance of personalized, data-driven care. Dr. Goodyear explains how advanced testing—ranging from tumor genetics to immune signaling and inflammatory markers—can guide treatment decisions and help monitor progress. This approach allows clinicians to better understand the tumor environment, restore immune communication, and adapt therapies in real time. He emphasizes that even simple lab markers, when interpreted correctly, can provide meaningful insight into a patient’s response and prognosis.A key theme throughout the conversation is the need to bridge the gap between conventional and integrative medicine. Dr. Goodyear advocates for collaboration rather than division, noting that patients are often left navigating conflicting information on their own. By fostering open communication, focusing on evidence, and prioritizing patient-centered care, he believes the medical community can rebuild trust and improve outcomes. He also underscores the importance of offering patients hope—grounded not in false promises, but in expanding possibilities and evolving science.Additional topics include the role of supportive therapies such as high-dose IV vitamin C and medical cannabis. Dr. Goodyear explains how vitamin C can function differently depending on dosage—supporting the immune system at lower doses and acting as a pro-oxidative, cancer-targeting therapy at higher doses. He also discusses the use of cannabinoids, particularly CBD, as a tool for managing cancer-related pain while minimizing immune suppression associated with traditional pain medications. Throughout, he stresses the importance of ongoing research, transparency, and responsible clinical application.Ultimately, this episode centers on a paradigm shift in cancer care—one that moves from reactive treatment to proactive, individualized healing. By combining innovative therapies, microbiome science, and a commitment to collaboration, Dr. Goodyear offers a hopeful perspective on where cancer care is headed and how both patients and practitioners can play a role in shaping its future. Can find Dr Goodyear at williamscancerinstitute.com or https://pre-scribed.com/pre-scribed-podcast/The Cancer Liberation Project is sponsored by thekarlfeldtcenter.com.

Paul Barattiero | The Power of Hydrogen Water

In this episode of The Cancer Liberation Project, Hayley speaks with Paul about the deeply personal journey that led him to hydrogen-rich water and its role in healing. Paul shares how his wife suffered for years with debilitating menstrual cycles, thyroid dysfunction, anemia, and severe fatigue—symptoms that worsened to the point where he feared losing her. Everything changed when she began drinking hydrogen-rich water, experiencing rapid improvements in energy and resilience, followed by long-term normalization of her cycle, iron levels, and overall health. This experience sparked Paul’s mission to understand the science behind hydrogen and help others facing chronic illness.Paul explains how hydrogen works at the root of disease by reducing oxidative stress and chronic inflammation—key drivers behind cancer, autoimmune conditions, and metabolic disorders. Unlike traditional antioxidants, hydrogen acts as a selective signal modulator, supporting mitochondrial function, immune response, gut health, and cellular repair without harmful side effects. He discusses how hydrogen has been studied in cancer care, including its ability to support apoptosis, improve energy, and protect the body from chemotherapy-related damage. The conversation highlights the importance of gut health, environmental toxins, and restoring the body’s natural balance rather than chasing symptoms. Paul shares why not all “hydrogen” water is created equal, how true hydrogen therapy supports the body safely at any age, and why this simple tool can profoundly impact energy, digestion, recovery, and quality of life. His message is clear: when you reduce inflammation, restore balance, and support the body at a foundational level, healing becomes possible. For more information go to echowater.com and hydrogenstudies.comThe Cancer Liberation Project is sponsored by thekarlfeldtcenter.com

Ryan Sternagel | Challenging the Childhood Cancer Playbook

Ryan is the cofounder along with his wife Teddy, of The Stern Method, a platform informing and inspiring families preventing or reversing cancer to succeed on all fronts. In May of 2014 their son Ryder was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer of the nervous system eleven days before his first birthday. Through an integrative approach leaving nothing on the table, and ridding their lives of all possible causes, which included building a non-toxic house in the middle of the woods, today Ryder is thriving.Along with The Stern Method website and social media presence, Ryan hosts The Anti-Cancer Revolution podcast and online conference series, and is the creator of Going Integrative Plus, a community providing cancer patients, parents and caregivers step by step instruction along with the opportunity to receive guidance directly from the top holistic cancer doctors in the world. In this episode, Ryan shares his family’s powerful and deeply personal cancer journey. After months of dismissed symptoms, Ryder’s imaging finally revealed a large spinal tumor with metastases. Faced with intense pressure to immediately begin chemotherapy, Ryan and his wife Teddy chose to pursue an integrative approach, advocating fiercely for Ryder while navigating fear, resistance from the medical system, and even threats of child protective services involvement.Ryder received limited chemotherapy due to medical necessity, but was supported simultaneously with extensive integrative care, including IV vitamin C, targeted nutritional therapy, supplements, detox support, and a healing-focused home environment. Ryder responded far better than expected—secondary tumors disappeared quickly, the primary tumor shrank dramatically, and conventional treatment was stopped far earlier than standard protocol. Over time, continued improvement confirmed the remaining mass as inactive scar tissue, and Ryder is now thriving.Ryan reflects on the importance of trusting parental intuition, addressing environmental and lifestyle factors, and combining foundational health practices with integrative oncology care. Their experience became the foundation for The Stern Method, Ryan’s podcast, and the Going Integrative Plus community, all created to empower families with education, support, and access to integrative cancer experts—offering hope and guidance to those facing similar diagnoses. For more guidance and information, go to thesternmethod.com and goingintegrativeplus.com. Dr. Contreras, serves as director, president, and chairman of Oasis of Hope Hospital. A distinguished surgical oncologist, Dr. Contreras is renowned for combining conventional and alternative medical treatments with emotional and spiritual support to provide patients with the most positive treatment experience possible. After graduating from medical school at the Autonomous University of Mexico in Toluca, Dr. Contreras specialized in surgical oncology at the University of Vienna in Austria, where he graduated with honors. He has authored fifteen books concerning integrative therapy including: The Art and Science of Undermining Cancer, 50 Critical Cancer Answers, The Hope of Living Cancer Free, The Coming Cancer Cure, Beating Cancer and Dismantling Cancer. In addition to writing for medical journals, Dr. Contreras has participated in medical conferences such as the World Conference on Breast Cancer and is active in the Cancer Control Society. In this episode, Dr. Francisco Contreras shares the philosophy behind Oasis of Hope Hospital and its integrative approach to cancer care — one rooted in compassion, personalization, and quality of life. Rather than relying solely on aggressive treatments, his work is guided by the principle of “first, do no harm,” offering therapies he would choose for himself or a loved one.Dr. Contreras explains that while cancer begins with genetic mutations, it behaves largely as a metabolic disease. All cancers share common traits — heavy sugar dependence, acidity, and low oxygen — which Oasis of Hope addresses through metabolic therapies, immune support, and highly personalized cell-based treatments using a patient’s own immune cells. His message is both grounded and hopeful: cancer is not a death sentence. Healing is measured not just by shrinking tumors, but by how patients feel, live, and reclaim their lives when the body, mind, and spirit are supported together. For more information, go to oasisofhope.comThe Cancer Liberation Project is sponsored by thekarlfeldtcenter.com

Lise Alschuler | Foundations for Thriving After Cancer

Lise Alschuler, ND, MBA, FABNO, is the President & CEO of Sonoran University of Health in Tempe AZ. She is a Professor of Naturopathic Medicine at Sonoran University and retains her rank as a Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Arizona where she was previously the Associate Director of the Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. She received her undergraduate degree from Brown University. Dr. Alschuler completed her naturopathic medical training at Bastyr University where she also completed her residency in general naturopathic medicine. She is board certified in naturopathic oncology and completed an executive Masters of Business in 2023. She is co-author of Definitive Guide to Cancer, now in its 3rd edition, and Definitive Guide to Thriving After Cancer. During our conversation, Dr. Alschuler shares her long journey into naturopathic oncology, which began even before cancer affected her own family. Early on, she was drawn to working with people facing cancer because of the depth, honesty, and perspective they often carried. After years in general naturopathic practice, she trained in a hospital-based integrative oncology program, where patients received both conventional and naturopathic support. During that time, her father was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer. Through an intensive integrative approach, he lived far longer—and with far better quality of life—than expected. Several years later, she herself was diagnosed with breast cancer, and going through treatment using integrative care profoundly deepened her empathy, reshaped her practice, and strengthened her belief in the value of combining conventional and natural therapies. She explains that the foundations of integrative cancer care are simple but powerful: quality nutrition, consistent physical activity, restorative sleep, targeted supplementation, and attention to environmental exposures. Medicinal mushrooms, for example, have strong evidence as treatment adjuvants with minimal risk. She also emphasizes that supplements must be used thoughtfully and safely—ideally under the guidance of a trained naturopathic oncologist—because natural products can still interact with cancer drugs. A key part of healing, she notes, also involves emotional integrity, authenticity, and the willingness to reexamine one’s life. Her “Five to Thrive” framework organizes these core lifestyle pillars into an empowering, practical roadmap for recovery and long-term wellness. Her book, The Definitive Guide to Thriving After Cancer, is meant to give survivors hope, reduce fear of recurrence, and offer evidence-based strategies without overwhelming readers. Ultimately, she believes healing is not just physical—many people experience profound growth, clarity, and inner alignment through the cancer journey, regardless of the outcome. To find a Naturopathic Oncologist, Dr. Alschuler suggests going to oncanp.org, and Naturopathic Doctors can be found on naturopathic.orgDr. Lise Alschuler and Karolyn Gazella, co-authors of the books, The Definitive Guide to Cancer and The Definitive Guide to Thriving After Cancer, also have a podcast called, Five to Thrive Live and can be found on all podcast outlets. The Cancer Liberation Project is sponsored by thekarlfeldcenter.com

Janet Maendel | Healing Beyond the Tumor

Janet is a Doctor of Osteopathy and Doctor of Natural Medicine who specializes in integrative oncology and metabolic health. She's the founder of Nurture and Restore Wellness, where she helps patients understand the deeper terrain of their health, the systems and patterns that influence cancer growth and healing. Her work brings together science, compassion, and personalized care. Janet uses data-driven functional testing, targeted nutrition, and metabolic therapies to help people restore balance, strengthen immunity, and support the body's innate ability to heal. Her approach combines scientific precision with compassionate care, empowering patients to restore balance, strengthen immunity, and optimize outcomes at every stage of cancer care.In this episode of The Cancer Liberation Project, Dr. Janet shares her unexpected journey into integrative oncology. Initially hesitant to work with cancer patients, she eventually recognized the deep need for a more compassionate, whole-person approach. Dr. Janet explains how cancer is often misunderstood as purely a genetic mishap, when in reality it's profoundly influenced by metabolism, environment, and lifestyle. She emphasizes that patients don’t have to choose between conventional and integrative care—true healing happens when disciplines collaborate and the patient is seen as a whole human, not just a tumor.Dr. Janet details how her approach differs from a traditional oncologist: instead of focusing solely on shrinking tumors, she digs into the “terrain”—the stressors, exposures, life patterns, and imbalances that allowed cancer to develop. Using the “test, assess, address” methodology, she relies on comprehensive labs, trends over time, and continuous adjustments rather than rigid protocols. Foundational elements such as nutrition, sleep, stress reduction, movement, and emotional healing are at the core of her work. She stresses that advanced therapies like IV vitamin C, mistletoe, and fasting around chemotherapy are valuable, but they only work when the “container”—the person’s overall terrain—is strong. Emotional and spiritual health, she adds, can be the missing link even when lab results look good. She also shares insight into her work with Immunocene, a leading-edge dendritic cell immunotherapy program in Mexico, where personalized treatments are created from a patient’s own immune cells and tumor tissue. Dr. Janet supports the program through metabolic oncology guidance, data interpretation, and terrain-based strategies. Her final message to patients is one of empowerment: don’t lose hope, build a supportive team, and focus on what you can control. Healing is not linear, but with curiosity, collaboration, and foundational care, patients can regain clarity, confidence, and agency in their cancer journey. To reach Dr. Janet, go to [email protected] Cancer Liberation Project is sponsored by thekarlfeldtcenter.com

It began as a grassroots movement in small group communities that continues today, expanding into almost every state in the United States, and internationally into many countries around the world, including bilingual Spanish and Italian speaking groups.HealingStrong continues to empower, inspire, motivate and equip group participants and members to live more whole and hope filled lives.During our conversation, Suzy shares what led to her diagnosis of thyroid cancer, the book that opened her eyes to more options when conventional treatment failed, one of the most powerful liver detoxes she believes we can do, the protocol she followed after she found out the cancer spread to her lymph nodes, how forgiveness was one of the keys to unlocking her healing, what she does currently for prevention, and how Healing Strong helps those touched by cancer. For more information, go to healingstrong.orgThe Cancer Liberation Project is sponsored by thekarlfeldtcenter.com
