Raygun Documentary, ASAP Rocky Underpays Dancers, Summer Dance Forever & More
Five years of The Capsule and a solo episode catching up on everything happening in the street dance scene right now.Luke breaks down the Raygun documentary and what he would have done differently with that worldwide platform, why the bullying conversation still matters even when you disagree with someone, and whether the doc owed anything to the breakingscene at all. Then it is Summer Dance Forever and the Snipes Warrior edition, why the cloak and mask reveal did not land, and the impossible problem of raising the stakes at an event where every dancer in the prelims is already world class. Plus a conversation about popping music, whether DJs are still taking risks the way theydid with tracks like 'Push' and 'AM To PM', and why the style feels disconnected from its music right now. Also in this episode: the AI adverts from Fusion Concept and where the line sits on generative AI in dance marketing, a shout out to the Flavorama team and why event organisation is an art form in itself, a One To Watch pick, and the ASAP Rocky casting call paying 200 euros for ten hours that reopened the whole argument about underpaid dance work, unions, and whose responsibility it actually is.Capsule Canvas scratch night is on October 9th. Submit dance films, choreographed pieces, freestyle pieces or talks, or grab a ticket through the link in our Instagram bio.Follow alonghttps://www.instagram.com/thecapsule.ldn/https://www.instagram.com/theduke.ldn/The Capsule is a street dance media platform covering battles, culture, community, and the industry. Sons Of Wind Origins, Real Hip Hop, & Understanding Culture w/ Lumi SOW
On this episode of The Capsule, recorded live at Beyond The Moves Experience in Paris, we sit down with Lumi, co-founder of the influential Paris Hip-Hop crew Sons of Wind.We dig into how Sons of Wind formed out of the Paris battle scene, why they moved beyond battling to build a full crew philosophy, and how deep study of hip-hop's musical roots (Detroit, New York, LA) led them to develop their signature "Hood Bounce" style, a name given to them by a Hip Hop legend. Lumi opens up about blending his Guadeloupean and Martinican roots into his foundation, the responsibility dancers have to the culture (not just to competitions and social media), and how Sons of Wind, alongside crews like LDDLM, helped bring style and depth back to modern Hip Hop battles.

Laura Nala on Paris Hip Hop, Originality & Why Battles Lost Their Meaning
This week we're at Existe Festival in Monthey, Switzerland with Laura Nala, one of the most influential women in French hip hop. Laura started battling at 10 years old, came up under P-Fly, Yugson and Niako, toured with Swaggers, and now creates full-length theatre works with her own company alongside raising two kids.We talk about being the "youngest OG" of the Paris scene, whether a generation of girls copied her style, what mentorship really means, the death of the afterparty, why there are too many battles, whether prelims should chop you vogue-style, dancing on stage at 8 months pregnant, and why she refuses to give her pieces a narrative.--https://www.instagram.com/thecapsule.ldn/https://www.instagram.com/theduke.ldn/

Existe Festival Review, The MJ Movie & What Makes Something Hip-Hop?
We're on a train from Switzerland after covering Existe Festival in Montreux — a three-day street dance festival in the Swiss Alps that's only in its fourth edition and already one of the best events in Europe. We break down the choreography competition, the 2v2 all-styles final between Darren, Willis, Miel and G (one of the best finals we've ever seen), and debate what actually makes a piece "hip-hop theatre" vs contemporary dance. We also get into why dancers should travel to smaller events over big ones, battle format innovation including no time limits and round robins, and the Damian Jalet choreography in the Young Lean music video. Then we give our honest review of the Michael Jackson biopic — and it's not all positive.

Viktor On Waacking, Ballroom, & Being A Red Bull Dance Your Style Wildcard
Viktor's Notes:"LSS is not just a warm-up — it’s actually how the ball begins. It’s a call for you to be celebrated.""Talking about the beginning of the scene, we were teaching classes at a time when vogue was hot and becoming visible in the media. Everybody wanted to learn, so we had students, and we wanted to throw a ball to give them the chance to experience that.""I personally vogue to feel free and seen — and not just that. In the major scene, I know my category well. I have it down. I don’t play; I’m coming with a Grand Prize kind of mindset. On a kiki level, I don’t need to chase that same thing in a new way, because I already have it. But I still walk a category to vogue, to express myself, and to feel it.""When we talk about realness, it’s not just about the “mirror.” Certain realness categories can also be a celebration of being real, if that makes sense."
