The Lie That Entrepreneurship Means You Have to Work All the Time | A Conversation with Lisa Herbstreit

This conversation is part of our Identity Series focused on uncovering the hidden lies that shape our lives and learning how to replace them with truth.Lisa shares her journey from corporate accounting into the world of coaching, the fears that kept her from pursuing entrepreneurship, and how God gently led her toward a new possibility. We talk about fear, courage, renewing the mind, evidence gathering, stewardship, calling, and learning to trust God with the next step instead of demanding certainty before moving. In This Episode You'll Learn:• How hidden beliefs can quietly direct your decisions for years• Why your brain naturally gathers evidence for whatever you already believe• The difference between fear-based decision making and faith-filled action• How God often confirms the direction He is leading you through unexpected opportunities• Why courage is rarely the absence of fear• How entrepreneurship can support your life instead of consuming it• What it looks like to steward your gifts instead of hiding behind excuses• How renewing your mind helps you recognize and challenge limiting beliefsA Final EncouragementYou do not have to keep living from a story simply because you've believed it for a long time.A lie repeated often enough can feel true, but that doesn't make it true.Start paying attention to the stories running underneath your decisions. Ask yourself if they are actually true. Then begin gathering evidence for what God says instead. One renewed thought at a time can change everything. If this episode encouraged you, share it with a friend who may be feeling stuck behind a story that no longer serves her.And if you're ready for deeper support in renewing your mind and becoming the woman God created you to be, I'd love to work with you through coaching, Steadfast, or one of my upcoming programs.Connect with Lisa:https://www.instagram.com/lherbstreit/https://www.instagram.com/tlcoaching26/💜 Next Steps:Please subscribe, like, review and share with your friends! Who Are You Becoming? The Stories We Tell Ourselves

Everyone has a story. A story about childhood, relationships, successes, disappointments, and painful experiences. But what if the most important part of your story isn't what happened to you? What if it's the meaning you've attached to what happened? In this episode, we're talking about identity, healing, and the powerful truth that your wounds are not your identity. God is in the business of redemption, and your past does not get the final word.Episode SummaryMany of us are carrying identity statements we never intentionally chose."I'm not enough.""I always quit.""I'm unlovable.""I can't change."These beliefs often grow out of real experiences, real pain, and real circumstances. But over time, they can become the lens through which we see ourselves and our future. In this episode, Shanna explores the difference between what happened to us and who we are. You'll learn how identity is formed, how stories become self-fulfilling, and how God invites us into transformation through the renewing of our minds.Key Takeaways• Events happen. Then we assign meaning to them.• Painful experiences are real, but they do not define your identity.• Victim may describe an experience, but it was never meant to become a permanent identity.• The stories we tell ourselves influence our thoughts, emotions, actions, and results.• Identity drives behavior.• God specializes in redemption, not erasure.• Your past may explain parts of your story, but it does not determine your future.• One of the most powerful questions you can ask is: "Who am I becoming?"You are more than the worst thing that happened to you. Your story matters. Your healing matters. But your wounds do not get the final word. God does.If this episode resonated with you, grab your journal and work through the reflection questions. Then share this episode with a friend who needs the reminder that transformation is possible.Journal Questions:What story do I tell most often about my life? What labels have I accepted about myself?Which of those labels came from painful experiences?Do those labels align with what God says about me?Who do I believe God is helping me become?

Your Brain Is Looking for Proof | Why the Lie Feels True

In this episode of The Christian Life Coach Podcast, we’re talking about why the lies we believe feel so convincing.Once we begin questioning a lie, our brain immediately responds:“Yeah, but look at all the evidence.”This episode explores:how your brain searches for proof of what you already believewhy practiced thoughts become convincinghow shame-based beliefs reinforce themselvesthe connection between thoughts, feelings, actions, and resultshow to intentionally begin gathering evidence for truth instead of liesThis is not about denial, fake positivity, or “manifesting.”This is about renewing your mind intentionally and learning to agree with truth instead of automatically agreeing with fear, shame, insecurity, and false identity.Key TakeawaysYour brain is constantly scanning for evidence to support existing beliefsFamiliar thoughts feel convincing, but familiar does not equal trueIdentity lies shape what you notice and what you ignorePainful experiences are real, but the meaning assigned to them mattersThoughts create emotional and behavioral reinforcement cyclesRenewing your mind is intentional, not passiveYou can practice looking for evidence of truth, growth, courage, connection, and God’s faithfulnessYou are going to find evidence for whatever story you keep rehearsing. So the question is not:“Can I find proof?”The question is:“What am I committed to proving?”💜 Next Steps:Please subscribe, like, review and share with your friends! Motivation is Unreliable- 3 Things That Will Help You Take Consistent Action

One of the biggest lies we believe is this: if I really wanted it, I would just do it.But that is not how the brain works. Most of the things that move your life forward require effort, discomfort, and doing things you do not feel like doing in the moment. Your brain is wired to seek pleasure, avoid pain, and conserve energy. That means resistance is normal. In this final March episode on taking action, I share three practical strategies that will help you follow through consistently even when motivation is nowhere to be found. In this episode, Shanna explains why waiting for motivation keeps many women stuck and how understanding the brain’s motivational triad removes shame around resistance. She then teaches three powerful strategies that make it easier to take action consistently: focusing on how you will feel after completing a task, reconnecting with your deeper reasons for doing it, and celebrating progress along the way. These simple shifts help retrain the brain and build trust with yourself through repeated follow through.Key TakeawaysYour brain is wired to seek pleasure, avoid pain, and conserve energy. Resistance is normal. If you think the reason you are not taking action is lack of motivation, you are solving the wrong problem.Focusing on how you will feel after completing the task can help override resistance.Every time you follow through on what you said you would do, you build trust with yourself.Having a written list of reasons why your goal matters helps anchor you when motivation fades.Repeated consistent action is what creates results and moves you toward the life you want.Celebrating small wins releases dopamine and trains your brain to repeat the behavior.Consistent action becomes an act of stewardship as we care for the life God has entrusted to us.Closing EncouragementYou do not change your life through one big burst of motivation. You change your life through thousands of small decisions and actions taken consistently over time.Start where you are. Commit to what you are willing to do consistently. And take those actions from a place of love.If you are ready to experience deeper transformation with personal coaching support, schedule a Right Fit Call through the link in the show notes. How to Build the Habit of Taking Action

Many women believe the reason they are not following through is because they lack motivation. They assume that if they just felt more inspired, more energized, or more disciplined, they would finally start doing the things they say they want to do.But motivation is unreliable. It shows up when things feel easy and disappears the moment something feels uncomfortable. The women who consistently take action are not waiting to feel motivated. They have practiced following through until it becomes part of who they are.In this episode, we talk about how to build that habit. In this third episode of the March series on taking action, we move from understanding the problem to learning the practical process of building the habit of follow through. You will learn why starting too big often leads to quitting, how identity shapes your habits, and why consistent action creates the evidence that transforms the way you think about yourself. This episode will help you stop waiting for motivation and start becoming the woman who follows through.• Your brain is wired for the motivational triad: seeking pleasure, avoiding pain, and conserving energy. This is why resistance shows up when something feels uncomfortable.• Most people fail at habits because they start too big and overwhelm their brain.• One of the most powerful principles for change is this: start where you are and commit to what you are willing to do consistently.• The goal in the beginning is consistency, not intensity.• Habits stick when they are connected to identity.• Every action you take creates evidence for who you believe you are.• Confidence grows when you collect evidence that you follow through.• As Christian women, we are not taking action to prove our worth. Our worth is already settled. We take action as an act of stewardship. You do not become a disciplined woman overnight. You become disciplined by practicing discipline today. One action. One decision. One renewed thought at a time.If this message resonates with you, I encourage you to check out my book Self Care as Stewardship: A 31 Day Devotional, designed to help you start where you are and build consistent rhythms of self care from a place of love.💜 Next Steps:Please subscribe, like, review and share with your friends! Why Taking Action Matters: Habits, Identity, and the Beliefs That Shape Your Life

Many women believe they are not taking action because they lack motivation. They tell themselves they just need more discipline, more willpower, or the right moment to feel ready. But motivation is rarely the real issue. In this episode, we go deeper and talk about why taking action actually matters. Because action is not just about getting things done. Action is shaping who you become. In this episode of The Christian Life Coach Podcast, we explore why taking action is essential for lasting transformation. Many women stay stuck waiting to feel motivated, but the real shift happens when we understand how our actions shape identity. Every action creates evidence, and that evidence influences what we believe about ourselves.Shanna explains how habits are not just behaviors but the physical expression of our beliefs. When we understand how our thinking drives our actions, we can begin to build habits that align with the woman God created us to be.You will also learn why identity is not fixed, why your “why” matters more than you think, and how small consistent actions begin reshaping your beliefs and your life.• Motivation is not the main barrier to action. Your thinking is.• Identity is not fixed. Why You Don't Do The Things .. Oh, It's Not Because You're Lazy!

You say you want to change. You make the plans. You promise yourself that this week will be different. And then you don’t follow through. If that cycle feels familiar, this episode will bring clarity and relief. Because the issue is not laziness and it is not a lack of desire. It is something happening inside your brain that most people never stop to examine. In this episode of The Christian Life Coach Podcast, we begin the March series on taking action by addressing a question many women quietly wrestle with: Why do I keep saying I’m going to change and then not doing it?Shanna walks through how the brain is wired for survival through something called the Motivational Triad. Your brain constantly seeks pleasure, avoids pain, and conserves energy. That wiring helped our ancestors survive, but it does not naturally produce discipline or follow through. You will also learn how the Creation Cycle explains the connection between your thoughts, your emotions, your actions, and your results. When you understand this process, you stop shaming yourself and start leading your mind on purpose. This episode will help you see that you are not broken. You simply need to learn how to work with your brain instead of letting it run the show.• You are not lazy. Your brain is wired to seek pleasure, avoid pain, and conserve energy.• The Motivational Triad explains why comfort and distraction often win over discipline.• Your thoughts create feelings, feelings drive actions, and actions create your results.• Emotional avoidance is one of the biggest reasons people fail to take action.• Identity matters. You act in alignment with who you believe you are.• Waiting for motivation keeps you stuck in passive thinking.• Transformation happens when you renew your mind and take intentional action. You are not stuck. You are simply running the default programming of the brain. When you learn to examine your thoughts, allow discomfort, and choose intentional action, everything begins to shift. Not overnight. But steadily. And that steady change builds a life of consistency, clarity, and self leadership. If this episode helped you understand your brain in a new way, share it with a friend who is tired of starting over. And if you want deeper transformation rooted in renewing your mind, make sure you are subscribed to the podcast so you do not miss the rest of the March series on taking action.💜 Next Steps:Please subscribe, like, review and share with your friends! How to Experience Deeper Connection in Your Relationships

Many women feel lonely even while surrounded by people. They are married, raising families, active in church, and still feel unseen and disconnected. This is not about communication tricks. It’s about becoming the kind of woman who can create closeness without losing herself.Connection is not created by trying harder to be likedIdentity must be rooted before relationships can be secureFear drives avoidance, resentment, and emotional distanceEmotional responsibility creates emotional safetyPresence builds connection more than fixing or explainingGuilt and shame silently block intimacyDeeper connection requires honesty, steadiness, and courageYou don’t need better people to experience deeper connection. Guilt, Shame, and Freedom: Healing Your Relationship With Your Past Self

How you relate to your past self determines how free you are today. Many women are living under guilt that quietly turned into shame, especially around roles that matter deeply like motherhood, marriage, caregiving, and calling. This episode names what’s really happening, exposes the lie of condemnation, and invites you into freedom that is already paid for.In this episode, we continue the February Relationships Series by looking at one of the most overlooked relationships of all: your relationship with yourself across time. We unpack the difference between guilt and shame, how fear causes guilt to harden into shame, and why shame keeps you disconnected from God, yourself, and others. You’ll learn how hindsight plus fear fuels self condemnation, how Romans 8 reframes your story, and what it looks like to release shame and walk in redemption.Guilt addresses behavior. Shame attacks identity.Guilt can lead to conviction, repentance, and restoration. Shame leads to hiding and disconnection.Fear is what turns guilt into shame by making mistakes feel permanent and personal. You are not meant to judge your past self by information she did not have.Shame keeps you focused on yourself instead of God and makes grace feel inaccessible.Romans 8 declares no condemnation and ongoing redemption. How you treat your past self directly impacts your present relationships.Love dissolves shame. Fear fuels it.You are not disqualified. Your story is not finished. God is still working, redeeming, and restoring what you have been condemning yourself for. Freedom is available when you release shame and trust what God has already promised. If this episode stirred something tender or heavy, you do not have to work through it alone. Coaching can help you identify shame, release self punishment, and walk in freedom. How Your Thoughts Shape Every Relationship

Your relationships are not shaped primarily by what other people do or say. They are shaped by what you believe, what you think, and how you interpret what happens. If you have ever felt disconnected, resentful, overly responsible, or emotionally exhausted in your relationships, this episode will help you see why and show you where your power actually is.In this episode, we continue the February relationship series by shifting the focus from your relationship with yourself to your relationship with others. We explore how beliefs, expectations, people-pleasing, comparison, and identity shape the way you experience connection. You will learn how to reclaim emotional responsibility, stop outsourcing your feelings, and decide intentionally what kind of relationships you want with the people in your life including strained relationships and even relationships with people who are no longer here.A relationship is the experience you have with someone, and that experience is created internallyYou do not experience people as they are. You experience them through what you believe about themOther people do not create your feelings. Your thoughts about them doPeople-pleasing is an attempt to control how others feel and it prevents real connectionUnspoken expectations lead to disappointment and resentmentBoundaries are not about controlling others. They are about deciding how you will respondComparison never leads to connection. It leads to judgment or insecurityOther people’s behavior is information, not a verdict about youYou get to decide the kind of relationship you want to have with each person in your lifeRenewing your mind is how relationships begin to changeYou are not powerless in your relationships. Your Relationship With Yourself Sets the Tone for Every Other Relationship

You are in a relationship you cannot escape. You wake up with her. You go to bed with her. You live inside her thoughts every single day. And the quality of that relationship quietly shapes how you relate to God, to others, and to yourself. If your inner relationship is harsh, critical, or distrustful, it will leak into every other relationship you have. This episode is about changing that from the inside out.February is all about relationships, and we are starting at the foundation. In this episode, we talk about your relationship with yourself. Not self obsession. Stewardship. How your thoughts create your emotional climate. How identity drives behavior. And why you cannot shame yourself into becoming the woman God created you to be. You will learn how to recognize unhelpful self talk, how to filter your thoughts through truth and love, and how to intentionally decide the kind of relationship you want with yourself.Your relationship with yourself is formed by your thoughts, not your circumstancesHow you treat yourself reflects who you believe you are and what you believe you deserveYou cannot hate yourself into transformationShame is not a motivator, it is a blockerThoughts are the most powerful determiner of every relationship in your lifeTruth without love leads to harshness, love without truth leads to driftYou get to decide the tone of your inner relationship and practice it dailyYou are not broken. Speaking Up as Self-Care: Using Your Voice Without Fear or Guilt

Many women think self-care means rest, boundaries, or better routines. But what if one of the most overlooked forms of self-care is learning to speak up. Not from anger. Not from fear. But from truth, clarity, and love.In this episode, we explore speaking up as a form of self-care and stewardship. Too often, women stay quiet to keep the peace, avoid conflict, or protect others from discomfort. Over time, that silence creates resentment, disconnection, and inner unrest. We talk about what keeps women from using their voice, how people-pleasing silence becomes self-abandonment, and how to speak from your true self rather than your wounded self. This is not about saying everything that comes to mind. It is about honoring what God placed inside you and learning to speak with wisdom, love, and intention.Silence that comes from fear is not peaceSelf-care includes stewarding your inner life, including your voicePeople-pleasing silence teaches your nervous system that you do not matterSpeaking up early is gentler than staying silent and exploding laterAvoiding conflict is not the same as creating peaceTruth spoken in love builds connection and emotional maturityYou are allowed to have preferences, needs, and opinions without apologizingYou do not need to become louder or harsher to use your voice. Speaking up is about being truer. Caring for yourself includes honoring what God has entrusted to you.If you recognize yourself in this episode and want support learning how to speak from clarity instead of fear, this is the kind of work I do in private coaching. Follow-Through Is Self-Care: How Keeping Promises to Yourself Builds Self-Trust

Most women are incredibly reliable for everyone else. Appointments. Deadlines. Kids. Work. Church. But when it comes to following through for themselves, that’s often where things quietly fall apart. Over time, that doesn’t just affect habits. It erodes self-trust.In this episode, we talk about why follow-through is not discipline for discipline’s sake. It’s self-care. It’s stewardship. And it’s one of the most practical ways to create peace, confidence, and stability in your life. This episode is part of a series on self-care as stewardship. We’ve talked about deciding as self-care and planning as self-care. Today, we’re talking about follow-through.You’ll learn how keeping small promises to yourself builds self-trust, reduces mental noise, and helps you live in alignment with who God created you to be. This isn’t about willpower or perfection. It’s about integrity, consistency, and learning to show up for yourself with wisdom and grace.Key TakeawaysFollow-through builds self-trust the same way trust is built with others: consistency over timeBroken self-trust creates mental clutter, self-doubt, and harsh self-talkFollow-through is an act of stewardship, not selfishnessYou cannot steward well what you continually abandonSmall promises kept matter more than big promises brokenPlanning for a bad day is one of the most loving forms of self-careFaithfulness, not perfection, is the goalYou don’t need to overhaul your life. The Cost of Not Planning

Once you make a decision, the next step is not more motivation. It’s a plan.In this Episode 48, I’m continuing the conversation from decision-making as self-care and taking it one step further. We’re talking about planning as self-care and why making a plan is how you honor the decisions you’ve already made.Planning isn’t about control, perfection, or rigidity. It’s about stewardship, clarity, and protecting the life you say you want.Inside this episode, we talk about:Why not planning is not neutralHow planning keeps you in motion instead of stuckWhy burnout often comes from re-deciding the same things over and overHow planning is still decision-makingWhy every plan eliminates something and why that’s a good thingThe emotional and mental benefits of daily planningHow daily planning builds self-trust and emotional safetyWhy avoiding planning doesn’t protect you from failure, it guarantees driftI also share how daily planning fits into a bigger rhythm of weekly, monthly, and 90-day planning and why this layered approach actually makes life feel calmer, not more complicated.Resources mentioned in this episode:Self-Care as Stewardship devotional (available on Amazon)Life On Purpose 90-Day Planner (monthly, weekly, and daily planning pages designed to support follow-through)Links and planning pages are available in the podcast resources.Remember:Y ou don’t need more motivation. The real cost comes from the looping, researching, questioning, and second-guessing we do afterward. You’ll learn:Why unmade decisions create mental exhaustionHow to recognize decision fatigue in your daily lifeA simple three-question decision filterHow to have your own back after you make a decisionWhy peace doesn’t come from perfect outcomes, but from inner alignmentThis episode is especially for you if you feel overwhelmed, scattered, or stuck in your head. Revealing the You God Designed: The Power of Daily Chisels

n Episode 43, we’re taking last week’s metaphor deeper. If Episode 42 showed you the masterpiece God already placed inside you, today we’re talking about the actual work of revealing her — through tiny, consistent chisels that feel almost too small to matter.Drawing from the metaphor of sculpting, Shanna explains how transformation doesn’t happen through one dramatic swing, but through thousands of tiny taps… and how those taps slowly remove the layers of shame, old identities, overeating, overthinking, and overdoing that have been covering up the real you. You’ll learn: • how to chip away at negative thought patterns • why boring habits are your superpower • how tiny emotional interruptions destroy decades-old patterns • the cost of not chiseling • how to choose your “one small chisel” today • why celebrating micro-wins creates dopamine-driven momentum • how consistency creates confidence, identity, and tipping pointsAnd Shanna shares how to join her January 31-Day Self Care as Stewardship Devotional Group, where you’ll practice this work in community — one small chisel at a time.Get the devotional: https://amzn.to/4oG4nQxJoin the January group by using the QR code or link inside the book.Life coaching is life-changing — one renewed thought at a time.Connect with Shannashannapyzer.comInstagram:  https://www.instagram.com/coachshannap/Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/spcswyaFind mentioned podcast resources here:https://coachshannap.myflodesk.com/podresourcesGet your copy of the Self-Care As Stewardship Devotional:https://amzn.to/4oG4nQxSchedule your Right Fit Call:  https://calendly.com/coachshannap/right-fit-call

A Peaceful Thanksgiving- With These Tips

As we roll straight into Thanksgiving week, I’m keeping it real with you. I missed last week’s episode, I’m recording this one late, and I’m showing up anyway — because that’s what we do.Today’s episode is your reminder that you get to choose who you want to be this holiday season.
