#68 Engaging Public Theology: Insights from Dr. Scott N. Callaham

The central theme of this podcast episode is the imperative of embracing public theology as a means to invigorate the church's engagement with contemporary societal issues. We are joined by the esteemed Dr. Scott N. Callaham, Dean of the Institute of Public Theology, who elucidates the necessity for believers to transcend the confines of private faith and articulate a robust Christian witness in the public sphere. Recorded at the G3 conference on September 22, 2023, this dialogue underscores the critical juncture at which American evangelicalism finds itself, particularly in light of recent challenges that have tested the resolve of the church. Dr. Callaham's insights reveal the shortcomings of traditional theological training and propose a revitalized approach that equips Christians to fulfill the Great Commission with confidence and clarity. As we delve into this conversation, we aim to inspire our audience to consider how they might actively participate in the public discourse surrounding faith and morality.Takeaways:The notion of public theology seeks to break free from the constraints of private religion, thereby encouraging believers to engage actively in their communities.Dr. Scott N. Why Hating on Jews is So Last Century: The Rise of the Spirit of Haman

A robust discussion unfolds as Andrew Rappaport delves deep into the contentious issue of anti-Semitism in contemporary society, shedding light on its alarming resurgence within various spheres, including the church. With Dr. Russell Fuller as a guest, Rappaport navigates the complexities surrounding the topic, emphasizing how anti-Semitic sentiments have infiltrated not only political discourse but also permeated theological discussions in evangelical circles. The conversation emphasizes the historical context of such animosity, drawing parallels to figures like Haman from the Biblical narrative, who sought the annihilation of the Jewish people. Rappaport and Fuller explore the implications of these sentiments, urging listeners to recognize the scriptural mandates that call for support, understanding, and love towards the Jewish people, while simultaneously condemning unjust criticism that stems from a lack of knowledge and understanding. The underlying message resonates throughout the episode: a critique of anti-Semitism is not merely an act of sympathy but a moral imperative grounded in the understanding of God’s relationship with His chosen people.Takeaways:Andrew Rappaport dives deep into the rising tide of anti-Semitism within the church, warning listeners of its insidious spread from political circles to evangelical communities. The episode highlights the importance of engaging with primary sources when studying theological and historical issues, emphasizing that understanding the truth is essential to combating misinformation.Dr. Russell Fuller shares his expertise on Jewish history and anti-Semitism, drawing parallels between contemporary issues and the historical figure of Haman, illustrating the persistent threat against the Jewish people.Listeners are encouraged to reflect on the biblical obligation to love and witness to the Jewish community, contrasting the spirit of Haman with the compassionate spirit of Christ and Paul. The podcast discusses the dynamics of political alliances within the church, revealing the complexities of supporting Israel amidst a landscape of shifting ideologies and rising anti-Semitic sentiments.Andrew and Dr. Fuller emphasize the role of local churches in training future leaders, advocating for a return to pastoral training that prioritizes biblical education without the burdens of traditional seminary costs.Links referenced in this episode:russelltfuller.comtruthfellowship.orgstrivingforeternity.org

    Delivering Women from Second-Class Ministry?

Has the church muzzled women by restricting them to "home" type of roles and behind-the-scenes service? In this biblical response to the Rainbow Fire documentary, we expose how the film recasts biblical teachings on women’s roles as bondage; something women supposedly need deliverance from to be ‘unmuzzled. We examine Titus 2, Proverbs 31, and 1 Corinthians 12 to see how Scripture actually honors faithful women’s roles. Does visibility equal value, or is faithfulness what God praises?

Didaché - Jonathan Shuttlesworth Calls Me Out - I Reply

In a recent episode, Justin Peters responds directly to Word of Faith prosperity preacher Jonathan Shuttlesworth, who publicly called him out on X. Peters contrasts their ministries: while Shuttlesworth boasts multi-million-dollar donations, a private jet, and lavish buildings, Peters flies coach, uses a customized mobility scooter, and has preached the true gospel in 37 countries and nearly every U.S. state.Peters highlights key issues with the prosperity gospel—its false promises of guaranteed healing and wealth, its hypocrisy (especially regarding healing), and its dishonor to Christ’s name. He shares powerful examples, including Paul’s sufferings in 2 Corinthians 11, and contrasts subscriber/view metrics on YouTube showing the true gospel’s reach despite limited resources.Peters extends a clear gospel call, urging Shuttlesworth to repent, abandon false teaching, and embrace biblical Christianity. The episode underscores that authentic ministry isn’t measured by private jets but by faithfulness to Scripture.➡️ Click here to find all of Justin’s essential links.

Sunday School lesson: Did Jesus die on a cross or a stake?

Here is the Sunday School lesson I taught this Sunday. Jehovah's Witnesses argue that Jesus died on an upright stake with no crossbeam. His hands were nailed together above his head. This is because the Greek words stauros and xulon only mean one piece of timber. They're actually right about what those words literally mean. Does that mean Jesus didn't die on a cross? Sanctify Christ as Lord | Sanctify Christ as Lord in Direction and Destination

Every life is on a path, and that path is leading somewhere. In Episode 26, we take a sobering look at what it means to sanctify Christ as Lord not just in how you walk, but in where your life is actually going. Jesus makes it clear that there are only two paths. One is wide, easy, and popular, but it leads to destruction. The other is narrow, difficult, and often overlooked, but it leads to life. This episode presses past surface-level Christianity and forces the deeper question: what direction is your life truly headed? This isn’t about what you claim or what you intend. It’s about trajectory. It’s about the daily choices, habits, and patterns that are quietly shaping your destination. Because over time, direction determines destiny. If Christ is truly Lord, then He doesn’t just influence parts of your life, He determines the path you’re on entirely. This episode will challenge you to evaluate your direction honestly and call you to walk the narrow road that leads to life.#BoldApologia #SanctifyChristAsLord #ChristianPodcast #DirectionAndDestination #NarrowPath #FollowJesus #SpiritualGrowth #FaithInAction #BiblicalTruth #Discipleship #LiveForChrist #Matthew7

Didaché - Gabe Poirot vs. Gabe Poirot, Part 3

Justin Peters continues his “Gabe Poirot vs. Gabe Poirot” series, exposing contradictions in the latest heavenly tourist’s claims. Gabe says he wants to distance himself from “loonies,” yet previously endorsed Jesse Duplantis, Kevin Zadai, and Kat Kerr—figures known for wildly unbiblical heaven stories (cable-car trips, Jesus needing hugs, Jell-O Land, friendly dinosaurs, etc.).Peters contrasts these tales with Scripture, especially Acts 17:24-25, showing God needs nothing from us. He urges Gabe to repent, as Alex Malarkey did, and tell the truth. Powerful call for discernment and biblical fidelity.➡️ Click here to find all of Justin’s essential links.

Didaché - Rick Renner Had This Video Taken Down - I'm Putting It Back Up!

In this episode, Justin Peters exposes Word-Faith preacher Rick Renner after Renner filed a copyright strike to remove Peters’ original critique video. Peters reinstated the content under Fair Use and dismantles Renner’s dramatic testimony claiming God shut down both Denver and Nashville airports simultaneously for his personal “Sabbath rest.” Using weather records and logical analysis, Peters proves the story is demonstrably false. He also connects Renner’s associations with Kenneth Copeland and highlights broader issues of exaggeration and false teaching in charismatic circles. A bold stand for biblical integrity and truth over celebrity claims.➡️ Click here to find all of Justin’s essential links.

Cultural Issues | Why the Existence of Aliens Doesn’t Concern Me

This episode was sparked by all the buzz around the UFO files tied to comments and disclosures connected to Donald Trump. People are talking, speculating, and for some, even getting a little uneasy. So instead of feeding the hype, we step back and ask a real question… if aliens exist, does that actually shake the foundation of Christianity? In this episode, we walk through that carefully and biblically, and the answer is a clear no.You don’t have to panic over headlines or what might be revealed next. Even if the UFO files turn out to be more than people expect, it doesn’t change who God is, it doesn’t change the gospel, and it definitely doesn’t dethrone Jesus. We lean into a grounded, Scripture-first perspective, similar to how Michael Heiser approached these kinds of questions, and show why your faith isn’t fragile. It’s built on something far more solid than speculation.#Apologetics #ChristianWorldview #Aliens #UFOFiles #Trump #FaithOverFear #BiblicalTruth #BoldApologia #JesusIsLord #StandFirm #ChristianPodcast

At the forefront of our discussion is the concept of bravery, which is illustrated not merely as an act of courage but as a willingness to risk oneself for the sake of others. This notion is intricately tied to the idea of duty, particularly the steadfast commitment to our responsibilities even in the face of profound injustice, as exemplified by the protagonist, Grace. Furthermore, the film raises significant ethical considerations surrounding the act of 'playing God,' prompting a reflection on humanity’s role in the universe and the moral implications of our choices. Through our analysis, we engage with these themes in a manner that underscores the intersection of faith and the human experience, inviting listeners to contemplate the broader implications of bravery, duty, and divine sovereignty in their own lives.Takeaways:The film 'Project Hail Mary' profoundly illustrates the essence of bravery as it emphasizes the willingness to risk oneself for the salvation of others, a concept that resonates deeply from a Christian worldview.Throughout the narrative, the theme of duty amidst injustice is poignantly portrayed, showcasing how characters confront their moral obligations even when faced with overwhelming adversity and betrayal. The juxtaposition of human agency and divine sovereignty is explored, raising profound questions about the ethical implications of humanity's attempts to play God in the context of the movie's existential threats. The characters' actions reflect a complex understanding of heroism versus bravery, illustrating that true courage often emerges in the face of fear, responsibility, and the desire to protect others. The film serves as a reminder of the Christian belief in a sovereign God who oversees the universe, urging viewers to maintain hope and purpose in the face of life's challenges and uncertainties.Ultimately, 'Project Hail Mary' challenges us to consider our roles within a larger narrative, prompting reflection on how we engage with the world and fulfill our duties as stewards of God's creation.
