Corpus Christi Songwriters alumns Jules Taylor, Jimmy Willden, and Garrett Wieland, gather around a mic for the first time to discuss what we and the organization are all about; the songwriting community. Of course we wander off on some random tangents along the way, such as Jimmy’s 1980’s television set, the obligatory Guy Clark stories, and Rockport resident John Macy and his various songwriter-focused endeavors, including the upcoming Rockport Songwriter Festival (Nov. 3-5). The meat of the conversation, however, focuses on the birth of Corpus Christi Songwriters and our festival, the Corpus Christi music scene past and present, the lack of and desperate need for proper listening rooms, the city’s numerous separate musical clicks, and the need to bridge the gap.
