6 Mistakes Stopping Small Business Owners Getting Clients

Most coaches are broke not because they lack talent but because they are invisible. The work is good. The results are real. But without the basic foundations of a credible online presence, consistent social proof and the right volume of activity, even the best coaches struggle to attract and enrol clients. The frustrating part is that most of these fixes take less than a day and cost almost nothing. In this episode, Robin breaks down the six mistakes he sees small business owners making repeatedly and the simple, inexpensive fixes that can start generating more leads and enquiries almost immediately. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: ✅ Why an inconsistent online presence is silently eroding trust and the quick fixes that make you look credible overnight ✅ Why a Gmail address is costing you clients and how to set up a professional online presence in a single day ✅ How to build social proof from scratch even if you are just starting out and have no existing reviews or testimonials ✅ Why hiding behind a laptop is the number one growth killer and how in-person networking still outperforms social media ✅ The lead indicator framework that tells you exactly why your sales are falling short before it is too late to fix it 🔗 Grab your free business scorecard at fearless.scoreapp.com To Apply for a FREE Coaching Session with Robin: https://www.robinwaite.com/app Join our amazing community of Coaches, Consultants and Freelancers on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/charge.more/ Check out the Fearless Business YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/RobinMWaite

How I Freed Up 20 Hours a Week in My Coaching Practice

Most coaches are not burned out because they work too hard. They are burned out because they are working on the wrong things. Robin discovered this the hard way two years into running his coaching practice, when a mentor looked at his diary and immediately spotted the problem. The fix took less than 30 days and freed up 20 hours every single week, without dropping a single client or reducing his income. In this episode, Robin shares the exact diary audit system he now uses to protect his time, batch his energy and run a thriving coaching practice in just six hours of coaching per week. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: ✅ Why your diary is the real source of your burnout and the colour coding system that makes wasted time impossible to ignore ✅ How Robin freed up 20 hours a week in under 30 days by making one simple change to how he ran his consultations ✅ The weekly diary detox that takes 30 minutes and sets up every week for maximum energy and minimum stress ✅ Why batching your activities by type makes you significantly more productive and how to structure your ideal coaching week ✅ How transitioning from one-to-one to group coaching can cut your delivery hours in half whilst improving client results 🔗 Thinking about making the shift to group coaching? Why Google Is Dead and AI Search Is Your Biggest Opportunity

Google's monopoly on search is over. Most business owners have no idea what to do next. Organic traffic from Google has dropped by 30% in the last 12 months alone. The businesses picking up those lost leads are not the ones spending more on ads or posting more on social media. They are the ones showing up in AI search tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude. And right now, almost none of your competitors know how to get there. In this episode, Robin breaks down exactly how AI search works, why it represents the biggest shift in digital marketing in 20 years and the five practical steps any business owner can take today to start getting found without spending a penny. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: ✅ Why a 30% drop in Google traffic is just the beginning and what is replacing organic search faster than most people realise ✅ How brand mentions have replaced backlinks as the primary trust signal for AI search tools ✅ The five content fixes that get your website indexed in AI search including schema markup, FAQs, key takeaways and rich snippets ✅ Why now is the wild west moment for AI search and how getting in early could replicate what Gary Vee did with Google in 2004 ✅ Two real case studies where AI search generated paying clients including a £10,000 coaching client found through Perplexity 🔗 Get early access to ZeroClick Authority at fearless.biz To Apply for a FREE Coaching Session with Robin: https://www.robinwaite.com/app Join our amazing community of Coaches, Consultants and Freelancers on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/charge.more/ Check out the Fearless Business YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/RobinMWaite

The Unconventional Growth Strategy That Took Me From Zero to $300K

One podcast interview generated as many leads as four and a half years of social media. Here is what that taught Robin about growing a business. Most coaches believe that consistent social media content is the path to sustainable revenue. Robin believed the same thing, until a single guest appearance on Ali Abdaal's podcast produced 3,000 leads in one conversation and made him question everything his team had been doing for years. In this episode, Robin breaks down the unconventional strategies that took his coaching practice from zero to $300,000 a year, why 10x thinking beats working harder every time and how partnerships with the right audiences can do in one day what social media cannot do in years. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: ✅ Why the heavy lift of in-person activity still outperforms digital marketing and how Robin hit £89,000 in his first year by doing the work most coaches avoid ✅ Why 2x is a trap and 10x is the only move worth making and how to identify the plays that will genuinely transform your business ✅ How one podcast appearance generated 3,000 leads and why audience partnerships are the most underutilised growth strategy in coaching ✅ Why writing a book is a 10x move and how a single asset can open doors to stages, podcasts and partnerships for years ✅ How Robin now runs a $300K coaching practice in six to eight hours of client work per week and the mindset shift that made it possible 🔗 Grab a free signed copy of Take Your Shot at fearless.biz/tys To Apply for a FREE Coaching Session with Robin: https://www.robinwaite.com/app Join our amazing community of Coaches, Consultants and Freelancers on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/charge.more/ Check out the Fearless Business YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/RobinMWaite

The Networking Strategy Most Coaches Are Too Logical to Try

Most business investments come with a clear ROI. This one did not. Robin went anyway. Flying business class to Dubai, hosting a rooftop dinner for 20 clients and spending three days at one of the world's biggest creator economy conferences is not a decision that makes sense on a spreadsheet. But after 10 years of building a coaching practice with clients in 30 countries, Robin has learned that the most valuable business moves rarely do. In this behind the scenes episode, Robin shares what a day in the life of a global business coach actually looks like, why deepening partnerships matters more than chasing leads and why trusting your gut over logical ROI calculations is sometimes the most strategic thing you can do. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: ✅ Why Robin invested thousands in a Dubai trip with no guaranteed return and the mindset behind making big decisions without a clear output ✅ How showing up consistently without selling builds long-term trust and why the work and money follow as a natural byproduct ✅ Why in-person relationship building still outperforms every digital strategy and what a rooftop dinner with 20 global clients taught Robin about the power of proximity ✅ How overthinking kills momentum and why following your gut is sometimes the most logical business decision you can make 🔗 Grab a free signed copy of Take Your Shot at fearless.biz/tys To Apply for a FREE Coaching Session with Robin: https://www.robinwaite.com/app Join our amazing community of Coaches, Consultants and Freelancers on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/charge.more/ Check out the Fearless Business YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/RobinMWaite

10 Things I Wish I Knew Before Starting My Business

Most of the things holding your business back today were learned behaviours from your 20s. With over 20 years in business, several six-figure ventures and a recent health diagnosis that brought everything sharply into focus, Robin reflects on the 10 things he would go back and tell his younger self about money, health, business and life. Some of these lessons cost him dearly. All of them are avoidable. In this episode, Robin gets candid about the mistakes that quietly shaped his 20s and the simple shifts that would have changed everything. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: ✅ Why hard work alone does not equal success and the 4% rule that changes how you think about effort and output ✅ The financial mistakes most business owners make in their 20s and how to avoid the compound cost of starting too late ✅ Why charging your worth from day one matters more than you think and how underpricing creates a negative cycle that follows you for years ✅ How to build multiple income streams so your business is never dependent on a single source of revenue ✅ Why business dips are inevitable and how to use them as a catalyst for your biggest breakthroughs 🔗 Grab a free signed copy of Take Your Shot at fearless.biz/tys To Apply for a FREE Coaching Session with Robin: https://www.robinwaite.com/app Join our amazing community of Coaches, Consultants and Freelancers on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/charge.more/ Check out the Fearless Business YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/RobinMWaite

How to Get More Coaching Clients Without Relying on Social Media

Most coaches are waiting for clients to come to them. That's exactly why they're struggling. Social media posts, perfecting a website and tweaking a lead magnet are not client acquisition strategies. They are procrastination dressed up as productivity. Real client acquisition requires getting in front of people, building trust at scale and creating systems that generate leads whilst you sleep. In this episode, Robin shares the exact strategies he used to build his coaching practice from scratch, including how guesting on over 200 podcasts, building his own community and playing the long game with event sponsorship created a pipeline of qualified leads that still delivers results years later. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: ✅ Why a waitlist is the first thing every coach should build and how to get 100 people signed up without a large audience ✅ How to build a community that attracts clients organically without paid ads or cold outreach ✅ Why podcast guesting is one of the most underrated lead generation tools and how to get booked on your first five shows ✅ How to get onto the speaking circuit even with zero experience or an existing profile ✅ The long game strategy Robin used to go from event sponsor to keynote speaker in front of 1,500 people 🔗 Grab a free signed copy of Take Your Shot at fearless.biz/tys To Apply for a FREE Coaching Session with Robin: https://www.robinwaite.com/app Join our amazing community of Coaches, Consultants and Freelancers on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/charge.more/ Check out the Fearless Business YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/RobinMWaite

Why I Quit Social Media and Doubled My Coaching Revenue

Most coaches are posting every day and wondering why nobody is buying. Here is why. Social media is not a client acquisition strategy. It is an awareness tool. And confusing the two is costing coaches thousands in lost revenue every single month. In 2022, Robin quit social media entirely, rebuilt his marketing strategy from the ground up and doubled the revenue in his coaching practice as a result. In this episode, Robin reveals the three-tier marketing framework that replaced his social media strategy, why vanity metrics like likes and shares are the enemy of real growth and how one partnership generated over £250,000 in new revenue from a single podcast appearance. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: ✅ Why social media is a short-term awareness tool and nothing more and what most coaches get dangerously wrong about it ✅ The three-tier marketing framework covering short, medium and long-term lead generation strategies that work together ✅ Why marketing assets beat social media every time and how to build content that generates leads whilst you sleep ✅ How strategic partnerships create explosive inbound growth without spending a penny on paid advertising ✅ Why a hyper-engaged audience of 1,000 people beats 100,000 passive followers every single time Contact Robin 🔗 Grab a free signed copy of Take Your Shot at fearless.biz/tys To Apply for a FREE Coaching Session with Robin: https://www.robinwaite.com/app Check out the Fearless Business YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/RobinMWaite

The 1-Page Business Plan That Makes Me 300K a Year

Do you really need a detailed business plan to succeed? After 20 years in business, building multiple six-figure ventures (and even selling one), I’ve discovered a simple framework that works, without a bulky 40-page plan. In this episode, I walk you through my Goal-Focus-Pricing framework, a one-page (or even postage-stamp-sized) business plan that helps entrepreneurs set clear revenue targets and reverse-engineer a successful business model. How to Start a Scalable Business So, how do you create a business that doesn’t just work, but actually grows with you, without chaining you to your desk forever? Here’s what matters: Start with a Clear, Measurable Goal: What does success look like in 12 months? Be specific; don’t just say “more revenue." Pick a number that excites you. Solve a Real Problem, for More Than One Person: Find a need that exists not just for a handful of people, but for an entire group, industry, or niche. Scalability comes from building solutions with mass appeal, think what Dropbox did for cloud storage or what Calendly did for scheduling headaches. Design for Simplicity and Replicability: Complex processes are growth killers. Whether it’s your service, your tech, or your offer, ask yourself: "Could someone else step in and deliver this without me?" Leverage Tech and Automation: Automate repetitive tasks and embrace platforms like Zapier, Mailchimp, or Stripe so your business can run (and grow) even when you're out walking your dog. Create Repeatable Systems: Document what works. Your onboarding, sales calls, email follow-ups, systematise now so you can delegate later. Focus on Customer Acquisition Channels That Scale: Relying on word-of-mouth is lovely, but to grow, tap into scalable marketing: paid ads, content marketing, SEO, or partnerships. Remember, scalability isn’t about doing everything at once, it’s about making wise choices that let you serve more people with the same (or even less) effort. What You'll Learn: ✅ Why Most Business Plans Fail – 75% of small business owners rate their plans as "substandard", and why a simpler approach works better. ✅ Step 1: Setting Your Revenue Goal – How to define a realistic, six-figure target for the next 12 months. ✅ Step 2: Pricing for Profitability – The formula to determine your ideal price point and client volume. ✅ Step 3: The Sales & Marketing Math – Breaking down how many consultations, conversations, and marketing efforts are needed to hit your goal. ✅ Step 4: Finding Clients Without Overwhelm – The easiest ways to generate leads, initiate conversations, and convert prospects. This minimalist business plan works for coaches, consultants, freelancers, and small business owners who want clarity, profitability, and freedom, without drowning in spreadsheets. 🔗 Grab my free business scorecard to assess where you stand: fearless.scoreapp.com  🔗 Book a free 30-minute diagnostic call if you need help applying this framework. If I Started Investing in 2025 This is What I'd Do

In this value-packed episode, Robin breaks down a practical and straightforward framework for building wealth in 2025. Whether you're a new investor or an experienced business owner, discover actionable tips on avoiding risky schemes, creating multiple income streams, and mastering the mindset needed for financial success. Learn how to protect your cash, grow your savings, and use creative strategies to turn small investments into big rewards, all while building a life of freedom and security. What You'll Learn in This Episode: 1. Say No to Get-Rich-Quick Schemes Why low-risk, consistent investments beat crypto hype and day trading. The key to understanding your risk tolerance. How to Review Your Finances and Set Smart Goals Before jumping into the latest investment trends, it's important to know exactly where you stand financially. Think of it like mapping out your route before starting a road trip, you need a clear starting point. Here's a simple process to help you review your current finances and set goals that actually fit your life: Take Inventory: List your income, expenses, debts, and assets. It's not glamorous, but knowing what comes in and goes out is the foundation for making smart decisions. Check Your Safety Net: Do you have emergency savings (think: at least three to six months of expenses)? If not, this should be goal number one. Define Your Goals: Whether it's a new business, early retirement, or simply being debt-free, write down what you want your money to do for you in the next year, five years, and even further out. Prioritize and Create a Plan: Break big dreams into smaller, actionable steps. For example, if home ownership is on your list, research how much you’ll need for a deposit and set up an automatic monthly transfer to a savings account. Schedule Regular Reviews: Set a monthly reminder to check in with your progress. Life changes, and so should your plan. Get Guidance (Optional): Sometimes, a second opinion helps. Consider speaking to a financial coach or using online tools like NerdWallet or MoneyHelper to double-check your maths and strategy. Building wealth isn’t about having a crystal ball, it’s about knowing your numbers and setting targets that push you forward... 2. The Real Cashflow Problem in Business Why most businesses don't have a cashflow issue. The two real challenges: making money and keeping it. 3. Adopting an Investor's Mindset Shifting from scarcity to abundance thinking. Small daily habits that build long-term wealth. 4. The Power of Starting Small A real-world example of turning £200 into £100,000. How multiple income streams reduce risk and maximize returns. 5. Protect Your Cash and Save Smartly Living within your means to safeguard profits. Creating a six-month safety net for peace of mind. 6. Exploring Passive and Digital Investments How to invest in domains and digital assets. Balancing active and passive income for better time freedom. 7. Freedom is the Ultimate Goal Using investments to buy back your time and focus on what matters. Why the best investment is the one that creates memories and life satisfaction. Ready to start your investing journey? Hit play and get inspired to take action in 2025! How to Divide Your Money for Maximum Security and Growth It all comes down to a simple but powerful system: separate your money into three distinct “pots” based on what you’ll need and when. Here’s how to make your financial foundation rock solid, no matter where you’re starting from: 1. Immediate Access , Everyday Essentials & Enjoyment: Think of your current account as the engine that fuels your daily life. This is where your income lands and where you manage your living costs: groceries, bills, your morning flat white, or the occasional gig ticket. These day-to-day expenses should always be paid for from the money flowing into this pot, nothing fancy, just financial common sense. 2. Short-Term Savings , Your Six-Month Safety Net: Before getting fancy with stocks or property, make sure you’ve set aside enough to cover six months of expenses. This stash isn’t for big dreams, but for life’s curveballs, a broken boiler, car trouble, or job hiccup. An easy-access savings account fits the bill, letting you tap into funds instantly without disrupting your long-term plans. This layer keeps you out of panic mode, so you’re never forced to cash out your investments too early. 3. Long-Term Growth , The Future-You Fund: After locking in your cash buffer, start thinking ahead, way ahead. This is where you put money to work for major goals: retirement, launching a dream project, or that big move overseas. Here, you can look at investments with a longer runway, like index funds, ETFs, or even a carefully chosen blend of shares and property. Compounding does the heavy lifting, steadily growing your pot far more than leaving it to languish in the bank. Remember, these “pots” aren’t locked boxes, they’re flexible and can change with your needs. But by splitting your money this way, you shield yourself from emergencies, keep your daily finances healthy, and give yourself the best shot at long-term wealth. Just keep it simple, automate where possible, and review once or twice a year to make sure you’re on track. Why Invest Only Surplus Money? It’s tempting to dive right in when the stock market feels like an express elevator to the penthouse. But here’s a timeless truth: investing should come after your essentials, never before. Think of your investments as seeds you plant only once your day-to-day garden is thriving. There are a few good reasons for this: Life Happens: Emergencies, big expenses, or sudden changes can pop up when you least expect them. Investing money you might need tomorrow could mean having to sell at the worst possible time, often at a loss. Peace of Mind: By ensuring your basic needs and safety net are covered first, you invest with a clear head and the patience truly needed to let your money grow. Long-Term Focus: Wealth isn’t built by trying to flip your grocery money in six months. The real wins come to those who let their surplus work quietly in the background, think five, ten, or even twenty years, like Warren Buffett sipping his Coke and ignoring the short-term noise. So, before you invest, double-check your budget, top up your rainy-day fund, and settle any high-interest debts. That way, every pound or dollar you put to work is free to grow, without risking the peace and stability you've worked so hard to build. Why Long-Term Investing Beats Sitting on Cash Let's talk about the bigger picture: if you've got your sights set on true wealth-building, history shows that investing in diversified stock indices trumps letting your money snooze in a savings account. Sure, there will be bumps, markets rise and fall like the British weather, but over time, growth wins. Take something like the MSCI All Countries World Index. Over the past decade, it's delivered some strikingly solid gains for patient investors, way outpacing typical interest from cash savings. We're talking double- and even triple-digit percentage growth if you zoom out to a 5- or 10-year horizon (with all income reinvested along the way). But, and it’s a big but, nothing is ever guaranteed. Even the star performers have bad years, and you could get back less than you put in if you need your money during a downturn. That’s why a savvy investor always keeps a stash of cash for short-term expenses and emergencies, while putting longer-term money to work in investments with the potential to outpace inflation. By blending both approaches, you give yourself the best shot at growing your wealth and protecting your peace of mind. How Wealth Managers Calculate Your Emergency Fund You’ve probably heard the advice: tuck away a few months’ salary in savings, just in case. But in the real world, the numbers are a bit more personal. Here’s how the pros actually crunch it: Instead of a blanket “three or six months’ salary,” seasoned wealth managers look at your genuine monthly outgoings, think regular bills, rent or mortgage, groceries, transport, and, yes, the joys that make life worth living. They help you total everything you need to keep life ticking over comfortably. The recommended cushion: Aim to stash at least six months of your true monthly expenses in a separate, “rainy day” fund. Personalised safety net: For some, a year’s worth of expenses makes sense, maybe you’re self-employed, or just want extra peace of mind. The bare minimum: No matter your situation, never let it fall below four months of essential costs (plus anything important you know is coming up, like car repairs or annual insurance). By tailoring your emergency fund to your actual lifestyle, rather than just a salary number, you’ll know you’re protected, whatever curveballs come your way. When to Consider a Fixed Term Savings Account If you've already set aside your emergency fund, you might be wondering where to park additional savings for costs you can see coming down the road. A fixed term savings account can be an excellent choice for bigger, predictable expenses you’ll face in the next few years. Some examples include: Setting aside money for a future tax bill. Planning for major home improvements or renovations. Saving up for a special holiday or milestone celebration. By putting this cash somewhere that offers a better interest rate than your regular account, your money not only stays out of easy reach (reducing temptation to dip in), but it also grows steadily until you need it. So when those planned expenses arrive, you'll have what you need, plus a little extra thanks to the interest you've earned. Using Fixed Term Savings for Future Expenses Once your emergency fund is set, it’s time to look ahead to those unavoidable, big-ticket costs, think tax bills, home renovations, or even that dream getaway you’re planning for next year. This is where fixed term savings accounts step into the spotlight. By locking your money away for a set period, typically one to two years, you tap into higher interest rates than what you’d get with your standard current account. The key benefit here? These accounts make it harder to dip into the funds on a whim, so you’re far less likely to spend the money impulsively. Here’s how a fixed term savings account fits into your financial toolkit: Higher returns: Your money grows at a better rate, giving you more when it’s time to pay those bigger bills. Disciplined saving: Since the cash isn’t easily accessible, you’re less tempted to raid it before you reach your goal. Peace of mind: When the expense finally arrives, you’ll have a tidy sum ready, maybe even a bonus from the interest earned. Think of it as your “future expenses vault”, protecting what you’ve worked hard to earn, and helping you hit your savings targets with less stress. Balance supply and demand to optimize sales and delivery capacity. 4. Consistency and Tenacity: The Long Game Achieving your first $10K month is just the beginning—build repeatability. Stay in the game long enough to learn, adapt, and succeed. Embrace the ups and downs; business isn’t a straight growth trajectory. 5. Get Out From Behind the Screen: Build Real Connections Stop relying solely on social media and embrace real-world networking. Attend events, collaborate with partners, and meet clients face-to-face. Boost creativity and mental health by stepping away from "procrastinate-work." 6. Play the Infinite Game: Beyond $10K Months Focus on long-term sustainability over short-term wins. Adopt an "infinite mindset" to stay in business for years. Recognize the importance of mental health and supporting others in the journey. How I Stay Productive 96% of the Week

Are you struggling to check off your endless to-do list or feeling overwhelmed by the grind of running a business? In this episode, Robin dives into Matt Essam’s 3 F’s Framework, a simple yet powerful productivity system to help you run your business with purpose and joy while maintaining balance in your life. Debunking Modern Productivity Myths If you've ever fallen down a YouTube rabbit hole of “Rise and Grind” entrepreneurs or found yourself wondering if you’re doomed because you don’t wake up at 5 a.m. sharp, you’re not alone. There’s a persistent myth in modern work culture that productivity and success are forged purely in the fires of relentless self-discipline, think early alarms, endless hustle, and powering through even when every cell in your body would rather nap. But here’s what actually moves the needle: sustainability and joy. Yes, sometimes you have to tackle boring admin or wrestle with your inbox, but success isn’t about surviving a never-ending bootcamp. In fact, research highlights that our best work tends to happen when we’re not drowning in stress, but when we’re genuinely enjoying the process. Consider this: The creators, founders, and authors who make it big (think enduring YouTube channels, bestselling authors, or decade-strong companies like Patagonia or Basecamp) are almost always the ones who fall in love with the day-to-day journey, not just the distant finish line. If you’re in it for the long haul, burnout simply isn’t an option. So, rather than obsessing over “hacks” or brute-forcing your way to success, the real secret is designing your workflow and business around what energizes you. If you’re energized by what you do, you’re not only more creative and productive, you’re actually more likely to stick with it long enough to enjoy the real rewards. What You'll Learn in This Episode: Freedom: Discover how to structure your work-life balance to maximize productivity while enjoying guilt-free time off. Learn how sprint cycles, intentional scheduling, and prioritizing self-care can give you the flexibility you’ve been craving. Fulfillment: Uncover the secret to finding purpose in your work and why chasing money alone often leads to burnout. Explore strategies to create meaningful impact through your business, including giving back and aligning your work with your passions. Finance: Master the art of intentional financial planning by applying the Pareto Principle (80/20 rule) and doubling down on high-impact activities that drive revenue and growth. Whether it’s optimizing revenue streams or focusing on hyper-productive marketing strategies, this episode breaks it all down. Packed with actionable insights, this episode will inspire you to rethink your approach to productivity, giving you the tools to run a thriving business without sacrificing your freedom or happiness. The Surprising Link Between Exercise and Peak Productivity Ever wondered if hitting the gym could give your work life a boost? Turns out, there’s more to those morning sweat sessions than just physical health, they can genuinely supercharge your productivity elsewhere, too. By committing to regular workouts, especially first thing in the morning, you’re not only prioritizing your well-being but also setting the tone for a more focused and energized day. Many people, myself included, find that starting the day with movement increases motivation, mental clarity, and determination to tackle even the most daunting work tasks. For example, after reading Peter Attia’s Outlive and taking my fitness more seriously as I approached 30, I noticed a tangible improvement in my output. Consistent exercise routines, like heading to the gym four times a week, make it easier to establish sustainable habits and maintain momentum, not just in fitness but across all areas of business and creativity. Whether it’s brainstorming fresh content or powering through challenging projects, the discipline and energy you build from regular exercise tend to spill over into your professional life. So if you’re looking to boost productivity, don’t overlook the potential of a strong morning workout routine. Overcoming Procrastination with Simple Scheduling One of the most effective ways to defeat procrastination is surprisingly straightforward: just put your tasks on the calendar. The act of deciding exactly what you need to do, and blocking out the specific time to do it, removes ambiguity and makes it much harder to endlessly defer important activities. Instead of letting tasks linger on a vague to-do list (“Update LinkedIn,” “Hire a virtual assistant,” “Write next week’s newsletter”), clarify your next action and give it a defined time slot. For example, “Schedule 30 minutes at 10am on Wednesday to brief the new social media freelancer.” This tiny shift transforms intentions into commitments. Why does this work? Because seeing an item in your calendar as an actual appointment turns it from a nagging thought into a scheduled activity, one you’re far more likely to complete. No more decision fatigue or last-minute shuffling. It’s in the diary, just like your call with a client or trip to Pret for the essential flat white. This approach is all about simplicity. By getting granular and giving every task a home, you’ll find that action comes more naturally, and you’ll finally tick off those long-standing bullet points that have taken up permanent residence on your to-do list. Why Guilt Creep Can Sabotage Your Hustle Ever step away from your laptop only to catch yourself feeling oddly guilty about not working on your side project or business? You’re not alone. Many entrepreneurs and creators stumble into a guilt trap, convinced that every moment not spent “being productive” is a moment wasted, or worse, a potential setback. This feeling often sneaks in from a certain type of motivation: the drive to avoid negative emotions rather than pursue positive goals. Instead of working because you genuinely want to, you might end up working just to dodge that nagging voice saying, “If you don’t do this, you’ll let yourself down.” Common triggers for this guilt include: Worries about financial security. The fear that your income isn’t where you want it to be, or that taking a break could jeopardize your business, can keep you tethered to your desk. Concerns about status or reputation. There’s a natural anxiety about what others, family, friends, or even old coworkers, might think if your business doesn’t pan out. Looming responsibilities. Whether it’s the rising cost of living or dreams of providing more for your family, these pressures can amplify the sense that you should always be “doing more.” Ultimately, these guilt-fueled work marathons rarely end well. Over time, they can drain your energy, dampen your enthusiasm, and yes, fast-track you straight to burnout. Recognizing the source of this guilt can be the first step to working with more intention, and a lot less stress. Finding Autonomy in the Everyday Even if you’re not the one deciding what gets done at work, there’s still a surprising amount of power in how you approach your daily tasks. Reflect on moments like childhood, the sheer joy you felt personalizing a bedroom or perfecting a school project. That same spirit can bring a spark of motivation and ownership to even the most routine assignments. Can’t choose your to-do list? No problem. Channel your energy into improving the process. Maybe it’s organizing your workflow with color-coded notes, streamlining boring administrative work by developing templates, or embracing new tech to speed things up and impress the team (think wielding a tablet like a pro in those endless meetings). Often, making small tweaks that suit your style doesn’t just lighten your own load, it can turn heads and inspire colleagues, too. By focusing on how you do your work, not just what you’re told to do, you unlock a sense of autonomy. It’s about taking the reins over the experience itself, crafting pride in the details, and discovering a sense of accomplishment in every task, no matter how prescribed it might seem. Finding Freedom Through Autonomy When it comes to gaining more autonomy at work, it’s less about making a dramatic leap and more about smart, intentional tweaks to the way you approach your day. If you’re craving more freedom and flexibility, here are a few practical strategies to get started: Redesign Your Schedule: Start by experimenting with how you structure your work hours. Try blocking off “focus time” for deep work, or use sprint cycles (short, intense bursts of productivity) to give yourself defined periods of high output, followed by guilt-free downtime. Set Boundaries, And Stick To Them: Communicate your working hours clearly to clients, colleagues, or customers. Protect your time for lunch breaks, family, or even that midday walk. The key is consistency; when your boundaries are clear, others are more likely to respect them. Delegate or Automate: Identify repetitive tasks that drain your energy. Can you use tools like Zapier or Notion, or delegate chores to a virtual assistant? Offloading low-impact activities creates more space for the work, and life, that really matters. Prioritize Tasks That Energize You: Take stock of tasks that make you feel most in control or inspired, and intentionally add more of these into your routine. Whether that’s creative brainstorming, connecting with your team, or learning new skills, lean into what lights you up. Embrace Your Locus of Control: Sometimes, autonomy isn’t about a new job, it’s a new mindset. Focus on the choices you do have: how you approach problems, where you work best, or when you do your most valuable thinking. Even in a structured job, small shifts in attitude and effort can make a big difference. If you’ve tried integrating these changes and still feel stuck, it might be time to step back and consider whether your role offers the room for growth and freedom you need, or whether it’s time to craft an exit strategy that moves you closer to true independence. How Morning Workouts Boost Motivation and Productivity It’s easy to fall into the trap of endless excuses when it comes to staying active, especially when your to-do list is already a mile long. But building a workout habit into your morning routine, and enlisting the help of a personal trainer, can be true game-changers for both motivation and productivity. Here’s why this approach works so well: Stack the Odds in Your Favor: Scheduling exercise as the very first task each day means it’s less likely to get bumped by urgent emails, meetings, or surprise client calls. Just as you wouldn’t leave cookies around if you were trying to eat healthy, front-loading your workouts removes decision fatigue and helps you keep the promise to yourself. Built-in Accountability: When you commit to meeting a personal trainer or a workout buddy, you’re not just answering to yourself. This external accountability can be a powerful motivator, helping you stick to your goals even on those low-energy mornings. Momentum that Carries Over: Investing in your health early in the day creates positive momentum. That “I’ve already achieved something!” feeling sets the tone and energy for the rest of your work. Many business owners discover they’re more focused, creative, and productive after breaking a sweat. Ditching Perfectionism: You don’t have to be perfect, sometimes, consistently showing up (even if you’re just guessing at your macros or skipping the food scale) is enough. The key is making it simple, fun, and sustainable so you can maintain the habit long-term. Whether your goal is to get stronger or simply feel your best, weaving exercise into your morning is a simple, high-impact change that delivers lasting results for both body and business. The Power of Mental Space: Let Your Mind Wander It might sound counterintuitive in our always-on, hyper-productive world, but intentionally stepping away from constant input, whether it’s podcasts, books, or social media, can offer remarkable benefits. By allowing your mind to wander, especially during activities like a walk in the park or a workout, you create space for genuine creativity and deeper problem-solving. Think about those rare moments in the shower, on a stroll, or mid-squat set when you let your thoughts drift. That’s often when unexpected insights strike. Why? With distractions dialed down, your brain gets a chance to piece together ideas, make connections, and rest from the barrage of information. It’s no surprise some of the world’s best thinkers, like Albert Einstein musing during a sail or Steve Jobs strolling through Silicon Valley, swore by distraction-free time for sparking breakthroughs. Here are a few key reasons to embrace these pauses: Boosted Creativity: When you’re not bombarded by notifications, your subconscious mind is free to incubate ideas and generate solutions. Lower Stress Levels: Regular breaks from screens help calm your nervous system, cutting through that ever-present sense of urgency. Improved Focus Later: By stepping away, you recharge your mental battery, so when you return, you’re sharper and more engaged. Moments of Clarity: Sometimes the simplest revelations happen when you least expect them, like while tying your shoes or waiting for the kettle to boil. Try carving out pockets of your day, be it during a jog, a leisurely walk, or quiet moments over coffee, when you intentionally do nothing except let your thoughts float. The results might surprise you. Stacking the Deck: Making New Habits Stick When it comes to building new habits, like sticking to a regular exercise routine, one of the best strategies is to make the path of least resistance work in your favor. Think about it as stacking the deck so success feels just a bit more inevitable. For instance, if getting to the gym always seems impossible, try scheduling your workouts first thing in the morning, before distractions crop up and willpower runs low. Set out your workout clothes the night before, so you can't help but trip over them on your way to the coffee maker. Accountability also goes a long way. Team up with a workout buddy, hire a personal trainer, or even sign up (and pay for) classes in advance, knowing someone’s expecting you (or your wallet’s already invested) can work wonders to keep you on track. The idea is to structure your environment and routine so that making the right choice becomes the easy choice, like leaving fresh fruit on the counter and keeping the cookies out of the house. Small changes to your surroundings and mindset can stack the deck toward meeting your goals, one easy win at a time. How Journaling Helps Uncover the Roots of Guilt Ever catch yourself feeling guilty for taking a breather or neglecting your endless list of tasks? You’re not alone, and that guilt can be a sneaky, burnout-inducing companion for business owners. One of the best tools I’ve found for unraveling that guilt is surprisingly simple: journaling. Journaling acts as a kind of DIY therapy. By regularly setting aside time to reflect, you can pinpoint the triggers for your guilt and notice repeating patterns in your thinking. Asking yourself questions like, “Why am I feeling pressured to do this?” or “Whose expectations am I trying to meet?” can reveal whether the guilt stems from outside influences or internal pressure. In many cases, putting pen to paper offers clarity you might miss in the daily whirlwind. Over time, you’ll recognize the difference between genuine motivation and doing something just to avoid feeling bad. This awareness is the first step toward adopting healthier habits, and letting purpose, not guilt, drive your next move. Simple Habits to Cut Down on Social Media Intentional Usage: Rather than drifting mindlessly through endless feeds, focus on using social media with clear intention. Decide in advance when and why you’ll go online, whether that’s to check messages, catch up with friends, or seek inspiration. If you set a time limit or a purpose before opening an app (for example, “I’ll spend ten minutes checking my group chat”), you’re far less likely to get sucked into the scroll. Create Gentle Friction: Tiny barriers make a big difference. Try moving social media apps off your home screen, so they’re not at your fingertips. Even simple steps like swiping and searching for the app can give you a split second to pause and reflect: “Do I really want to do this right now?” There are even clever tools like the One Sec app that interrupt instant access and prompt you to take a breath, or offer an alternative like Kindle or Audible, making it easier to swap out content consumption for something more nourishing. Replace, Don’t Just Remove: Blank space on your calendar easily gets filled with digital distractions. Instead, find something you’d rather do, dive into a novel, call a friend, try a new board game, or even simply enjoy a mindful cup of tea. If you invest your time in projects or hobbies that genuinely interest you, you’ll naturally have less pull towards your phone. In fact, having a list of go-to activities can make it feel more rewarding to step away from social media. Check in With Yourself: Every so often, take a moment to pause: “Is scrolling really what I want to be doing right now?” If the answer is yes, perhaps it’s a well-deserved brain break! If not, it might be time to pivot to something that feels more fulfilling. Remember, it’s not about perfection, it’s about being just a little more intentional with your most valuable resource: your time. The Hidden Hurdles Experts Face with Healthy Habits Even the most disciplined professionals aren’t immune to the classic struggles of maintaining healthy routines. It's a common myth that experts always have flawless self-control or never miss a beat in their nutrition and fitness routines. In reality, everyone faces temptations, whether it’s raiding the pantry for late-night snacks, succumbing to a sweet tooth at Ben & Jerry’s, or simply finding it hard to resist that extra slice of cake when out with friends. Here’s what often trips up even the "pros": Environmental Traps: If the kitchen is loaded with Oreos, chocolate, or any irresistible munchies, willpower will often take a vacation. One fix, like asking your significant other to keep the cookies on the top shelf, can help, but the challenge never disappears entirely. Out-and-About Indulgences: Dining at restaurants or gatherings can turn into a “why not?” free-for-all. That scoop (or mountain) of gelato may be bigger than life itself, and that’s okay! It’s about striking a balance between joy and discipline. Everyday Human Struggles: Procrastination and bouts of laziness don’t discriminate, even veteran nutritionists and trainers deal with days when the couch wins over a workout or burnout takes the wheel. The truth? Everyone, experts included, navigates wobbly moments and minor setbacks while trying to keep their habits healthy. The secret is designing environments and routines to help you bounce back quickly, rather than pretending you’re bulletproof. Mini Adventures With Friends Looking to infuse a dose of excitement and connection into your routine? Consider weaving in mini adventures that break the mold and energize your week. Whether it’s gathering a group of creative minds for a weekend retreat in the Cotswolds, catching waves on a spontaneous surf trip, or hitting the slopes for a snowy ski escape, these bite-sized getaways can recharge your inspiration and bond you closer with your crew. Retreats: Organize a cozy countryside getaway, think rustic cottages, creative brainstorming, and plenty of good food. Outdoor Escapades: Plan a surfing weekend down by Newquay, or head to the Alps for a ski adventure with friends. Mix it Up: Explore new hobbies together, such as hiking the Lake District, camping trips, or even city-hopping for a taste of culture and cuisine. It’s less about grandeur and more about gathering good people, enjoying new experiences, and stepping outside the day-to-day. These moments feed your creativity, and your soul, while keeping you connected to what matters beyond the business grind. The Power of Mini Adventures Have you ever felt like your year blurs together, with work and routine taking center stage? Here’s a refreshing approach: setting the goal of organizing six “mini adventures” throughout the year. These bite-sized escapes might range from a creative retreat in the Cotswolds with friends to spontaneous surf or ski trips, whatever sparks joy and connection. The idea isn’t just about travel or novelty; it’s about intentionally creating memorable moments. This concept traces back to Jesse Itzler, entrepreneur and adventurer, who famously proposed that building in six mini adventures a year means, over fifty years, you’ll collect an incredible 300 unique memories. Instead of letting the years slip by in a haze of routine, you’re curating a personal highlight reel, one small, meaningful experience at a time. Building Your Exit Strategy: Regaining Autonomy When Work Loses Its Spark Let’s face it, sometimes, no matter how many sticky notes you plaster with inspirational quotes or how many lattes you bribe yourself with, enjoying your job just isn't happening. If you find yourself trapped in a cycle that drains your energy, it’s time to consider crafting an intentional exit strategy that gives you back your sense of control. Here’s a practical roadmap to get started: Reframe the Everyday: Before you make any big moves, look for small ways to make your current role a bit lighter. Inject moments of play, tap into your strengths, and gravitate toward projects that let you collaborate with people who energize you. Identify Your Control Zone: Focus on the areas where you have influence, your projects, your schedule, or even your lunch break. Simple shifts here can spark a noticeable difference in your daily experience. Quietly Plot Your Next Steps: If your efforts to improve things still leave you frustrated, use evenings and weekends to lay the groundwork for change. Update your CV, take a relevant course on platforms like Coursera or Udemy, or start networking on LinkedIn. Side Projects with Purpose: Whether freelancing, starting a blog, or exploring a passion project, channel your off-hours into building new skills and income streams. Think of it as insurance for your sense of freedom and autonomy. Patience, Not Panic: The goal isn’t to quit your job overnight but to gradually open doors, giving yourself more choices without letting stress or burnout run the show. Developing an exit strategy is about regaining your power, bit by bit. Even small steps taken outside work hours can pave the way for a more fulfilling future, one where you call the shots. Obituary Writing: A Surprising Path to Clarity It might sound a little unusual at first, but taking ten minutes to write your own obituary can be a game-changing method for self-reflection. The exercise isn’t about morbidity, it’s about stepping back and picturing the legacy you want to leave behind. What would you hope your friends, colleagues, and family remember about you? What kind of impact would you want people to mention in their eulogy? Journaling prompts like this help you pinpoint what truly matters to you, moving beyond just goals or daily tasks. With the help of modern tools (yes, even ChatGPT can help you polish your thoughts), you’ll quickly see what an authentic, fulfilling life looks like for you on paper. Once you've captured that version of your ideal legacy, take a closer look: How much of your current work and daily routines actually match the life you’ve just described? If there’s a disconnect, it’s a clear signal to realign your habits and intentions. Regular reflection of this kind doesn’t just clarify your purpose; it’s a powerful defense against burnout and losing sight of what brings you genuine fulfillment. $80M Business and 2,5M YT Subscribers - Chris Do From The Future

In a recent episode of The Fearless Business Podcast, Robin Waite interviews Chris Do, a successful entrepreneur who has built an $80 million agency over 22 years. Chris is also the creator of the YouTube channel "The Futur" which boasts over 2.5 million subscribers. Chris Do is an award-winning designer, director, and CEO who founded Blind—a pioneering motion design and brand strategy consultancy—in 1995. Based in California, Blind quickly became known for producing standout video content for clients including Snapchat, Nike, EA Sports, and Microsoft. Beyond Blind, Chris founded The Futur, an online education platform driven by the mission to teach 1 billion people how to make a living doing what they love. Through online courses and practical tools, The Futur helps creatives sharpen their skills and build thriving businesses. Chris also gives back by serving as chairman of the board for the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA) and providing guidance as an advisor to Saleshood, a leading sales enablement platform. Over the years, he’s contributed his expertise to organizations like AIGA/LA, the Emmys Motion & Title Design Peer Group, and academic boards at institutions such as Otis College of Art and Design, Santa Monica College, and Woodbury University.  This conversation dives deep into Chris's journey, the lessons he's learned, and the strategies that have propelled his success. Blind: Pioneering Motion Design Excellence Founded by Chris Do in 1995, Blind has played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of motion design. Emerging as an industry trailblazer at a time when motion graphics were just gaining momentum, Blind quickly established itself as a creative powerhouse. With a dedicated collective of strategists, designers, filmmakers, writers, and animators, the agency has consistently delivered standout visual storytelling. Their groundbreaking approach has left an indelible mark on campaigns for major brands like Nike, EA Sports, Microsoft, and Snapchat, to name a few. Over the years, Blind’s commitment to innovation and artistry has set new standards, making them a sought-after partner for clients seeking memorable, high-impact video content. Key Takeaways Everyone has a unique superpower that can be harnessed for success. Authenticity in branding can significantly accelerate business growth. Pricing strategies, including price bracketing, can enhance profitability. The importance of focusing on outcomes rather than time spent. Leadership and Advisory Roles Beyond The Futur Chris’s influence extends far beyond his agency and YouTube channel. He holds several prominent leadership and advisory roles within the creative and educational communities. As chairman of the board for the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA), he helps guide the direction of one of the world’s most influential anime organizations. Chris also advises Saleshood, lending his expertise to shape the future of sales enablement platforms. In addition to these roles, Chris has contributed his insights as a board or advisory member for numerous respected institutions. These include serving with AIGA Los Angeles, the Emmys Motion & Title Design Peer Group, the Otis College Board of Governors, as well as roles at Santa Monica College and Woodbury University. Through these positions, he continues to foster creative talent and drive innovation across the design, academic, and entertainment worlds. Discovering Your Superpower Chris believes that everyone possesses a superpower—a unique strength that, when fully integrated into their professional life, can lead to greater success. He shares his journey of self-discovery, emphasising that many people often suppress their true passions in favour of societal expectations. By embracing all aspects of oneself, including childhood interests and curiosities, individuals can align more closely with their authentic selves. The Importance of Authenticity In the podcast, Chris discusses how many people present a version of themselves that they think others want to see, rather than their true selves. This can hinder genuine connections and business growth. He encourages listeners to be intentional about their branding and to express their true beliefs and values. By doing so, they can attract the right audience and foster deeper relationships. Navigating Social Norms Chris acknowledges that while some social norms are beneficial, they shouldn't dictate how one presents themselves in business. He uses the analogy of shopping in a supermarket, where products compete for attention based on their packaging and branding. Just as unique products stand out on shelves, individuals should strive to showcase their authentic selves to attract the right clients. The Journey of Reinvention Chris shares that throughout his career, he has had to reinvent himself every few years to stay relevant. He highlights the importance of being proactive in adapting to changes in the industry, rather than waiting for disruption to occur. This mindset has allowed him to pivot successfully from a service-based design company to a content-driven business. Major Clients and Industry Impact Throughout its history, Blind has had the opportunity to work with an impressive roster of global brands. Notable clients include household names like Nike, Snapchat, EA Sports, and Microsoft. These collaborations have helped Blind solidify its reputation as a leader in motion design, creating impactful video content that resonates across industries. Pricing Strategies: Price Bracketing One of the key topics discussed is price bracketing. Chris explains that when clients are hesitant to reveal their budget, it’s essential to provide a range. For instance, stating that a project could cost between $30,000 and $200,000 allows clients to feel more comfortable sharing their budget. This strategy not only helps in negotiations but also sets a precedent for the value of the service being offered. Incremental Pricing: Go Higher Chris advocates for incremental pricing, encouraging business owners to raise their prices significantly rather than making minor adjustments. He argues that this approach tests the market's perception of value and helps professionals understand their worth better. By focusing on the outcomes they deliver, rather than the time spent, service providers can better align their pricing with the value they create. The Power of Outcomes A significant point made during the conversation is the need to shift focus from time-based billing to outcome-based pricing. Chris emphasises that clients care more about the results they receive than the hours spent on a project. By framing conversations around the impact of their work, service providers can better articulate their value and justify their pricing. Conclusion Chris Do's insights offer valuable lessons for entrepreneurs and business owners looking to scale their operations. By embracing authenticity, understanding their unique superpowers, and implementing effective pricing strategies, individuals can create a more fulfilling and profitable business. The journey of self-discovery and reinvention is ongoing, but with the right mindset, anyone can achieve their goals and make a significant impact in their industry. My Business Lessons From Disney World

Earlier on this year I took a family trip to Disney World Florida for the first time. I've never been before so I had absolutely no point of reference as to what the experience was going to be like. It goes without saying that it was epic. While I was out there I still carried on with my Weekly Group Coaching calls with my amazing Fearless Crew, and so after ten days at Disney I shared my business lessons with them on the call. So, what you're listening to is me speaking on a coaching call, if it feels more/less formal that usual or different to my typical podcast recordings. What were my business lessons from Disney? 1. Add Upgrades and Upsells Into Your Business: There is just incredible demand at Disney...throughout the year...ALL of the time! And despite there being four parks there are only a handful of big experience rides at each park. Which means that if you want to get onto those rides, you've got to a) upgrade to the Genie+ feature in the Disney App...which is a daily upgrade of about $36 per person (EVERY DAY!!!!)...which then unlocks Lightening Lanes.  What could you introduce into your business to give people an upgrade? In Fearless Business I have the Group Accelerator, but if you want to hang out with me 1:2:1 then you have to upgrade to my Hybrid Coaching programme or full 1:2:1 Business Coaching. Food at Disney is also a premium. Drinks are a premium. With their having a captive audience you can't escape spending even more money while you're there. 2. Customer Services and Remarkable Value Just brilliant...at every single part of Disney...just brilliant! 3. Stimulating the Demand with FREE Marketing! What I loved was the photographers throughout the parks and it was included to have your photos taken. You could approach any photographer and have your photo taken, scan your card and they'd send it into your Disney App within seconds. Why would they do this for free? Instead of you paying for it? Disney know that you're going to share their photos on social media and with your family, and they want those photos and Disney to be seen in the best possible light. So it's brilliant free marketing for Disney. What could you do to encourage people to talk about and share your business and brand FOR FREE? And FOMO is a huge part of marketing within the parks as well. The queues are long and it makes you want to go on the rides MORE not less. So if you are too cheap you're signalling to the market that you "have lots of supply" available...i.e. you're not in demand. So, why would people get FOMO when you're not in demand. Limit your supply and you'll find you have a waitlist for your services. 4. Requesting Reviews Disney have all sorts of marketing assets driving people towards their parks. But within 15 minutes of me leaving the park in my Uber, I received a notification asking for a review. Which got pumped straight out into social media. How can you automate requesting review from your customers? How I Generated £150k From a Single Podcast Interview

In August '23 I was particularly fortunate to be a guest on the Deep Dive Podcast with Ali Abdaal. For those who don't know Ali has 6 million subscribers to his main YouTube channel. That one single podcast interview generated 1,500 leads for my business in the subsequent 90 days, which led to 80+ sales calls and over £150,000 in booked revenue. It blew my mind how one podcast interview could make or break the fortunes of a business owner, and so in this episode I disect what steps I went through in order to get this podcast booked. My blinding flash of the obvious was that it was all down to the Partnerships that I built that this podcast even came about. From doing the Key Person of Influence course ten years ago with Daniel Priestley, to my friendship with author Simon Alexanger-Ong they all played a part. The 5 Steps for Partnership are: Be intentional about the 10-20 people you would like to partner up with and how the partnership will benefit both you and them. Ensure you a rephysically in the same room with your partners regularly. Yes we live in an online world but nothing beats a hand shake and looking into someone's eyes! Be helpful and add value. How I Get More Downloads on my Podcast Episodes

I get asked very frequently what my process is for producing a podcast episode, and in this episode of the podcast (a bit meta!!) I break it down for you. My Podcast process is quite simple: Come up with an overall topic for the episode. Generally this is either from questions I get asked throughout the week from clients and prospects or I might look for a topic on Google which is highly searched for. These are topics which I know will get traction because people are talking about the topic already. Once I've chosen my topic for the podcast, I'll do a quick bit of research and write down a bullet point list of what I want to speak about. This is where frameworks are quite helpful, so something like my "Silver Platter Patnership" Framework might be made up of 5 steps. So if I do a 2 minutes introduction and backstory, along with 2 minutes for each step (or bullet point) and then 2 minutes for an outro, that equates to a nice succint 14 minute long episode. I try and record monologues in one-take because I get into flow, and I'll only go back and re-record that short segment. Without thinking about it I send it to my awesome Podcast Editor, James Ede, and he normally has it back to me within 48 hours. This means I can get a very simple podcast episode up in a very short period of time. The other things to consider on your podcast are: Monologues vs Guest Interviews: I found when I was solely doing guest interviews my downloads were generally quite low because I was selecting relatively unknown people with small audiences and my guests weren't promoting the episode. When I switched to 3 monologues to every 1 guest interview my downloads went up fourfold and people enquiring after my lead magnets also shot up, plus the guest interviews got a lot more traction. Platform: Choosing the right platform is paramount, originally I was on Anchor.fm which was good enough, but I didn't find the distribution was as wide as I wanted it to be, when I switched to Podbean again the management of the podcast was easier but the downloads increased dramatically because of the wider distribution. Reviews: ASK PEOPLE FOR REVIEWS!!! Spring Clean: Spring clean your podcast periodically. During th e100th episode relaunch I went through and SEO optimised all of the episode titles and descriptions, removed some of the lesser downloaded episodes. Ordered the episodes into seasons. And again on doing all of this the downloads went up. Hope you found this helpful, let me know if you did!! Setting Objectives and Key Results - Paul Wilson

In this episode of the Fearless Business Podcast I hand over the reins to one of our certified mindset coaches, Paul Wilson, who runs a group coaching/hypnotherapy session to help our members to gain clarity over what their objectives for the month ahead look like, what is getting in their way and the key results. Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) are something I discovered in the book Measure What Matters by John Doerr. He uses some fantastic examples but what really stands out for me is why OKRs are better for businesses than traditional goal setting. Paul now hosts a regular monthly OKR sessions once a month with the members in our business accelerator to lock on their objectives for the month ahead, with remarkable results. A bit about Paul Paul uses Advanced Conversational Hypnotherapy to quickly and easily resolve some of life's most difficult problems such as anxiety, erectile dysfunction and female sexual dysfunction, driving and passenger anxiety, smoking & alcohol dependence and phobias without the use of medications and months of talk therapy. Based in Folkestone with online consultations for any timezone. I also coach business owners to let go of Procrastination, Perfectionism and Imposter Syndrome - letting go of beliefs that are holding them back from success in their field. Should I Put My Prices on My Website?

This Podcast episode covers one of the most commonly asked questions I get during coaching sessions which is, “Should I advertise my prices on my website?” The very short answer is, “No!” don’t advertise your prices on your website. There are several reasons for this which I go through in the podcast episode and I’ll also outline below: 1. You Could be Qualifying Prospects Out Too Soon In the example I walk listeners though in this episode of the Fearless Business Podcast, I talked about a beauty business that I worked with. They were so focussed on getting more customers via marketing as a way to grow their business, they were ignoring just about every other metric within the business. I looked at their finances and the business wasn’t looking shabby profit wise, but growth had slowed down dramatically. The numbers, which did look interesting to me, were on their cold leads into warm enquiries. It transpired many of their customers were “price sensitive” and were asking for prices up front in Messenger and via email. And my client was giving them the prices. This isn’t a big issue in its own right however it quickly became apparent that many of their prospects were uneducated buyers. I challenged their belief that giving away prices was a qualifier. It can be used to qualify prospects, but only when demand is so high there are few other ways to qualify prospects. They were adamant about giving the prices away as their belief was that, “If we don’t give prices when people ask then we are being dishonest!” and they believed in this quite strongly. I suggested we focus on a campaign to get prospective buyers into their clinic before giving their prices away for 30 days and see if it made any difference. I offered to match any drop in sales if they felt strongly my way contributed to losing clients. After 30 days their conversion from cold lead to warm prospect went up by 40% and this continued through into the profit and loss account 60-days later. By inviting prospects into the clinic they could see how amazing my client was, how professional their clinicians were, the quality of the services they provided and above all could learn about the treatments they were interested in buying.  There was no pressure selling, just an opportunity to experience what it would be like to visit the clinic and experience a treatment and consultation. 2. You May Still Be Adjusting To New Prices If you’re going through a process of increasing your prices, then I’d recommend not publicising your prices. Pricing is mostly based on mindset and confidence. Today you might not be so bullish about your prices, business or yourself and so it’s “easier” to fall back on your prices that are black and white on your website. However, tomorrow, for whatever reason, you might be feeling really confident having listened to a podcast from Robin about increasing your prices…but you can’t increase your prices…because they are in black and white on your website. I don’t know who made up this stupid rule about putting prices up maybe once a year and by only 5-10% if that…what a stupid rule, who decided that one? When you’re adjusting and testing new price points for your products, you might adjust your prices 6-10 times throughout the year until you reach a natural point of supply and demand. Imagine having to do 6-10 updates on your websites and marketing material. So, while you’re testing new prices, remove all traces of your price list from websites, social media and your email marketing so that people have to enquire about your products and prices to find out more. If you’re worried about this then please go back and re-read my comments in the section above. 3. Pricing Is a Conversation Starter People buy for many reasons and your prices only make up a small percentage of that buying decision, here are some example of other reasons why people buy, or at least enquire about your products: Referral - They heard someone talking about your business/brand and want to know whether your products or services can help them. Intrigue - There is something interesting they read in your marketing which prompted them to enquire about your business. They’re not educated buyers but interested to know more. Education - They know they need a service similar to yours but want to know more about how it works and most importantly will it work for them. Trust - They may trust you more or less than the competition so want to find out whether their hunch is right about your business. Speed - How quickly can you provide a solution to them? Quality - Can you do it better than your competitors? Window shopping - casually browsing potential solutions to their problems. Affordability - They like it but can they afford to buy? Do you offer payment plans to help them with this? Why £1 Saved Means £2 Less to Earn

Most business owners I know are stuck in the “sales cycle of doom” meaning that they are constantly having to market, sell and deliver their services just to get by. Rarely do I see successful small businesses producing any level of profit. Growing a sustainable small business requires the owner to: Save up for a rainy day fund - we recommend saving 6 months of operating expenses should the worst case happen and you are unable to work, at least your business has a small survival fund while you get back on your feel. This might take 2-3 years to save up. Reinvest in your business - business requires investment in order to grow, if you’re sucking all the profits out of your business by way of a salary, it is never going to grow. Create profit - Turnover is vanity but profit is sanity. The goal in business is not to collect customers. It is to make profit. It is much better to run a business that has a turnover of £150k and profit of £80k rather than a £1m revenue business making a loss of £80k. Why is it important to watch your costs? For every £1 you bring into the business you will have: Direct costs of sales VAT to pay (if you’re over the threshold) Staff to pay (if you employ people) Corporation tax to pay Other overheads and expenses By the time you deduct all of those it means your £1 is probably worth more like £0.50 or even less in many cases. Therefore every saving of £1 you can create in your business means you have to bring in £2-3 less in revenue on the top line. Which means you need FEWER clients. Not more. This is a more sustainable business. Imagine a coaching business which has a group coaching programme which it sells for £4,500 per seat. And that coaching practice has several subscription softwares which it pays for every month. If that coaching business can cut it’s subscription costs by just £200/mth, when you extrapolate that out over the course of a year, £2,400. Based on the maths of £1 saved leads to £2 less in required revenue this means that coach can afford to NOT HAVE TO enrol one additional client that year. £200 doesn’t sound like a lot, however the effort required to enrol a coaching client might require: 5 few consultations to be sat per year - that’s potentially 5 hours plus the admin saved. 35 fewer conversations with prospects needed - we have a rule in Fearless Business called 70-10-2. 70 conversations leads to 10 consultations which leads to 2 client enrolments. How much time needs to be invested into each one of those prospect conversations? 20 minutes each perhaps, so that’s another 12 hours saved. All of the extra marketing efforts which go into creating those initial conversations. So, you can see, a saving of just one client per year frees up at least 17 measurable hours for that coach, consultant or freelancer and countless amounts of energy in marketing. * as a side note, you may be looking at that thinking a 20% conversion rate is low for a business coach. Not if they’re qualifying prospects and only taking on the best clients. 20% is a typical conversion rate for a coaching business. But I need to do marketing which costs money Yes…and no…if you’ve listened to other episodes of the Fearless Business Podcast you’ll have heard me talk about Marketing Assets. If you build marketing assets such as: Writing a book A podcast Brochures YouTube channel To name just four assets, you can create these assets and they will start conversations for you while you sleep. When you’re next tempted to buy a “shiny” marketing thing for $5k from a hipster bro-marketer who wows you with “guaranteed” results…think twice. Most people miscalculate the ROI required for that investment to make sense, and think they just need to recover a single client (if they’re worth $5k to you) to make an ROI. WRONG! You will need at least 2-3 clients just to BREAK EVEN and probably more like 8-10 clients over the following year to justify the investment. As generally these investments become rolling payments that you need to make month in and month out irrespective of the results. They will also blame you should they not produce the results they promised you. That’s a podcast episode for another day. The moral of the story is: Keep your costs low and your income high. He’s also the fractional COO at Gold Front, an award-winning creative agency in San Francisco working with brands like Uber, Slack, Keap and more. As well as the head strategic coach at SaaS Academy by Dan Martell, the #1 coaching program for B2B SaaS businesses in the world. When he’s not helping agencies make more money, he’s probably watching “The Office” or “Parks and Rec” on a never-ending loop and eating breakfast foods for every meal of the day.  What will be discussed on today’s show:  How agencies should measure their performance Key metrics to track Targets to aim for & industry benchmarks Exactly what formulas to use to calculate them Example metrics: Financials (Revenue, AGI, Gross Profit, Net Profit, Overhead Spending) Utilisation Rates Average Billable Rates Labour Efficiency Ratio What is Marcel Working on Right Now: The Agency Profit Toolkit - https://parakeeto.com/toolkit/  How to get hold of Marcel:  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/getparakeeto/ Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/marcel-petitpas-20059588/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/Parakeeto Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/agencyprofitability  Website: http://www.parakeeto.com/  To find out more about Fearless Business:  Join our amazing community of Coaches, Consultants and Freelancers on Facebook: >> https://facebook.com/groups/ChargeMore  And check out the Fearless Business website: >> https://fearless.biz and https://www.robinwaite.com

Latent Demand - Stop Putting Out Rubbish Offers

If you're putting offers out there on social media, week in and week out, wondering why literally nobody is interested in your offer, you'll find out why in this episode of the podcast. A mistake people make is that they think it's their "audience" who are fools for not wanting to take the marketer up on their amazing offer. They didn't stop to ask several very pertinent questions before spraying marketing muck all over their audience. These questions include: Is my offer actually any good? Is my offer desirable? Does my audience indeed NEED my offer? And do the NEED it RIGHT NOW? Can they afford to buy my offer? Is the offer delivered in a way which is alligned with my prospects' greatest challenge, pain point or problem that they are looking to solve right now? In fact all of these could indeed by true but your messaging sucks so while your offer is great your value proposition sucks and so the market indeed ignores your offer.  This is not, however, their fault, it's yours and you need to own it and ensure your offer has some context based on the questions I've posed above. Your offer should be an invitation to take the next step on your process and NOT to buy something from you. Let me explain, most people are littering the marketplace with cheap offers which are sub £200. Cheap and dirty and they think that will attract buyers in. However, this rarely works. This thing called Latent Demand exists.  An example of latent demand would be the shoppers trawling the aisles of Sainsburys for bread and milk and then stumbling across the baked beans shelves and spotting that Heinz have a 2-for-1 sale on beans. It is the latent demant which stimulates people to buy the offer NOT the actual offer itself. In this example, you don't have loads of people sniffing around your aisles for staple foods, it's rare any small business has this level of latent demand (think here; a Facebook Group with 10,000 members, that's your equivalent of latent demand). So for most, their offer goes completely unnoticed in all the plethora of other market stallholders shouting, "Buy my stuff! Buy my stuff! Buy my stuff!" How to Set Your Coaching Prices When Starting Out

On today's episode of the podcast, I'm going to be talking about one of the easiest ways to figure out how much to charge for your products or services. Welcome back, everybody. It's your host here, Robin Waite, founder of Fearless Business, author of Take Your Shot. It's been a little while since I did a podcast. You're probably wondering why there's been several months of a hiatus. So before I dig into my simple formula for working out your products or services, I thought I would just update you as to why I've been away for a little while. Yeah, quite simply, I just found that I fell out of love with doing podcast episodes. I don't know why, and I know that it's very selfish of me, but sometimes I find when you're doing building marketing assets, you do have to find things which you are, where your energy is kind of like, without getting too woo, in the right sort of place. So going for that, answering that question around how do you set your coaching prices when you're starting out? Well, there are a number of different ways, but I'm going to share one specifically with you, which is, I call it goal focused pricing. And it is possibly the simplest way to set your prices for your services. It does involve a bit of math. So you probably didn't wake up this morning thinking you were going to get some kind of a math test, but it's simple math, folks. Just get out a sheet of paper and just do some basic calculations or use a spreadsheet. Developing a Winning Mindset - Paul Wilson

Paul Wilson has dedicated the last 30 years to helping people, either as The Emergency Response Manager at the Channel Tunnel and hypnotist/coach for business owners. Paul began his new career 4 years ago. In preparation for his new venture, Paul spent much of 2018 training and learning new skills. One of the highlights was Logan Murray's Stand Up Comedy course, during which he performed two live stand up gigs. The “graduation” gig held at The Water Rats, North London. Paul has plenty of testimonials that showcase how he has helped clients. His favourite is probably the shorted and most direct. From Nicky Botton: “Basically, in short – you’re a fucking legend! xxx.”  What we'll be discussing on tonight's show: How come therapy / hypnosis / nutrition / coaching trainers who sell courses to wannabe therapists DON'T provide their trainees with real, useful marketing training. Why Every Coach Can Benefit from Writing a Book

While books do take a while to write and publish they are by far and away one of the best marketing assets that a coach and every coach can benefit from writing a book. My books typically take 8-12 months to write and publish, but that's the hard part done as they are then free or very cheap to give away as a lead magnet. Many people ask me, "How much information should you give away in your book?" - What they're forgetting here is that if your core coaching programme is high-ticket i.e. expensive, then a book makes learning your methodology affordable for more people...therefore you can measure your impact based on how many people download your book. Books Increase Engagement Books hugely help with increasing engagement, Google stated in Zero Moments of Truth that you need to engage someone for 7 hours on average before they commit to buying a product or service. With the average book being 30,000 words long that means somewhere between 5-7 hours of reading time so a book is a great way to chalk off the 7 hours of engagement. When I launched Take Your Shot I gave away about eighty copies of the book at an event I was speaking at. About three weeks after the event I received dozens of social media notifications one Sunday morning; and essentially people has the book on their bedside cabinet or desk and remembered to pick it up and read it...at which point they started sharing it on social media and leaving reviews. There's no way I could be with those 30+ people all at the same time...so books are amazing at creating engagement on your behalf. Having a book positions you as an authority A book enables you to get podcast interviews and speaking engagements People will quote your book in their marketing and social media And invite you to write forewords and quotes for their books It leaves a legacy behind after you are gone! Protect your methodology and Intellectual Property In writing your book it helps you to formulate your ideas I didn’t write Online Business Startup, it wrote me! In this Episode I also answer the most common questions: How much should I give away in my book? How long should a book be? How salesly should my book be? How important is being a Bestseller? How much money can you earn from writing a book? And...How I hacked the process of writing a book… 10 words of narrated and edited audio equates to about 1,000 words A typical book is about 30-50,000 words long So approximately 5-7 hours of content …how I wrote 30,000 words in a single month To find out more about Fearless Business: Join our amazing community of Coaches, Consultants and Freelancers on Facebook: >> https://facebook.com/groups/ChargeMore And check out the Fearless Business website: >> https://fearless.biz

Competitive Pricing - Advantages and Disavantages

During this episode we'll be taking a look at both the advantages and disadvantages of Competitive Pricing and why it's best to use a blended pricing strategy for your coaching business. In escence; why you shouldn’t base your prices on competitors and what you should do instead.  In every industry you can add up the entire turnover generated by that industry and work out what percentage of your peers contribute to what level of value. So, to make the numbers easier, £100 of value created by 100 coaches: £60 is generated by just 10 coaches £30 is generated by 30 coaches Just £10 is generated by 10 coaches Other things I'll be discussing: Sales Cycle of doom Discounts we’re just not calling it a discount Copying a terrible business model As it's often based on hourly rates The competitive intelligence you’ll gather will reveal competitor strategies, which will help you make better decisions in the long term. Make sure you implement a dynamic pricing strategy where you are testing numerous price points to maximise profits without losing your competitive strength. Competing solely on price might grant you a competitive edge for a while, but you must also compete on quality and work on adding value to customers if you want long term success. If you base your prices solely on competitors, you might risk selling at a loss. Instead, combine several strategies in line with your business objectives. What are the Biggest Challenges in Lead Generation

Most common mistakes entrepreneurs make when trying to boost sales/leads. In this episode I use some anecdotal experience where I mislaid £9k through not understanding the data in my Facebook Ads, spending several thousand pounds on printed advertising that yielded ZERO results...here's what I learned from those expensive mistakes and what I found to be the biggest challenges in lead generation in 2022: In this episode I talk about: Some Facebook ads that went wrong to the tune of £9k Not choosing the right supplier - Buying followers on Instagram...yikes! Spending on “Awareness” often produces little to no results: “PR” in Magazines which don’t exist or have over-inflated promises around audience and circulation Business events again where audiences are over-inflated Facebook Reach advertising So what can you do to overcome challenges in lead generation? Ensure you implement campaigns well Try them out for the long term Get enough data and validation to test whether it’s working (ScoreApp versus Facebook Lead Ads) Get a solid Sales Process in Place Be willing to invest in Marketing (20% of your turnover or 80% of your time).
